The Unova Pokemon evolve so late.....

When I first started to play Pokemon Black, I had to evolve my Zweilous to LV 64, WTF!? It should have evolved in Level 40 or 37 like the others, and that my Mienfoo evolved late as well, it should have evolved in LV 30 as well. And here are the Pokemon I think that evolve late: Deino/Zweilous, Scraggy, Joltik, Mienfoo, Larvesta, Pawniard, Rufflet, Vullaby, Golett(somewhat), Litwick, Axew(it should evolve at Lv 30 like Dratini and Bagon), Ferroseed, Elgyem, Frillish, Foongus, Scraggy, a LOT isn't it. But what level do you think that the Pokemon that evolve late should evolve? EDIT: Do not take my opinion seriously, it's what I think. And that compared to Pokemon like them from the 1st 4 generations, they seem to evolve depending on how strong they are or their origin. But for the rest, they should be a little lower.

aperso January 29th, 2012 8:22 AM

I think all these Pokémon should've evolved at low levels like 20-30 because most of the people that play the games are used to it. But, that's why I think Nintendo made the levels higher.

Superjub January 29th, 2012 8:45 AM

It certainly mixed it up a bit. Personally, I belive Pokemon should evolve at the 'normal' levels (for instance, the pseudo legendary should evolve at level 50/55 as normal.) However, it didn't really affect me much. I used a Hydreigon, but because I was still experiencing the 'main story', before I knew it, my Zweillous had evolved into Hydreigon. As for Larvesta and Volcarona, since you get both Pokemon (the Larvesta egg and the Volcarona in the ancient castle), that didn't bother me either. XD

Oryx January 29th, 2012 8:57 AM

I love the high-level evolutions tbh. I always got this little sinking feeling when I finished evolving my starter, because I knew I wouldn't have anything to look forward to except for new moves, and this is just what I'll have. I love having an evolution to look forward to and work towards.

I practically agree with you. Deino should evolve at LV 30, and Zweilous should evolve at LV 55. And that here is what confuses me. Why would they put a Larvesta in the game and a Volcarona in one? They shouldn't really place Larvesta in it if Volcarona can breed and that Volcarona is at LV 70. It makes no sense.

This is getting a tad off topic, but you can't get the level 70 Volcarona until after the game is over, but you can get the Larvesta as soon as you get Surf. I think the idea is to make you able to get Volcarona before the game actually ended.

PlatinumDude January 29th, 2012 4:55 PM

The high-level evolutions are annoying to me because I wanted to use Pokemon like Volcarona and Hydreigon for the first-round Elite 4 without having to grind like crazy.

To be honest, I'd like some of the Pokemon that evolve at high levels evolve a bit lower (like Mienfoo, Pawniard, Larvesta and the Deino line)

Kyrul January 29th, 2012 5:11 PM

Yeah it's annoying but thats 5th gen for ya D:

vaporeon7 January 30th, 2012 3:10 AM

I didn't really mind the change. Although, it would've been nice if there were a few Pokémon that evolved at lower levels. It's strange that only the Pokémon that evolve before lv20 are Lillipup and the starters. But at least it gave me a longer play, even though I still managed to finish the National Dex in two weeks. For many of the Pokémon, it didn't matter much, as their evolutions could be caught in the wild, usually in shaking grass.

BreederMrc January 30th, 2012 4:51 AM

I agree that some of the new pokemon evolve too slowly. Especially because I am focused on completing my pokedex. Curse you Gamefreak!

Musica January 30th, 2012 5:12 AM

I agree that Dragons evolve later in-game, but level 64 for Hydreigon? .___. A bit... odd?
With Scraggy, I think it has decent stats already and getting a more awesome Pokemon at level 39 is worth it. I didn't care about Volcarona either since you get both of the unevolved, and evolved form.

Personally, I really don't care much how long my Pokemon evolves. I just grind like hell then realize that they're changing their form. I even give out everstones so they learn their moves earlier than evolved forms.

vizarod February 6th, 2012 6:17 PM

I kept leveling my Zweilous up to like, level 60, and I thought it would never
evolve! Then of course, it ends up evolving at lv.65 or something. I thought
it would evolve at lv. 55 like the other tyranitar and dragonite. But NO! It
takes forever TT_TT They should have eveolved at normal times like the ones
from earlier generations. I guess they did that to make an otherwise easy and
boring game more challenging.

miltankRancher February 6th, 2012 6:27 PM

i am neutral with this issue. I love training pseudo-legendaries, but I agree. Hydreigon is just too high a level requirement to evolve, unlike the normal 55. With others, it is just fine for me too. I like their pre-evo's anyway.

Beloved February 6th, 2012 6:56 PM

I enjoyed the new evolution levels. I mean, look at the level you get the Pokemon, and when they evolve! Joltik is already 24-27, and it evolves at 36! Deino is at 38-40, and evolves at 50, and then again at 64! If you are complaining about leveling level 1 Pokemon, then maybe you should consider something a bit easier to level. Plus, Lucky Eggs are free for a reason.

In my mind, the new leveling system gives my practice of incremental leveling validity. By raising each Pokemon little by little, it allows me to build a team I am comfortable with, and the late evolutions just add to that.

Hikamaru February 6th, 2012 8:14 PM

I knew how annoying it was to raise a Deino all the way to a Hydreigon, Level 64 is a pain...

Also, the Larvesta from the egg obtained on Route 18. Needs to grind 58 levels before you have that Volcarona.

Ho-Oh February 6th, 2012 8:19 PM

imo it's kinda bad when this is the one generation I decide to complete the Regional PokeDex and... I get... level 64 evolution... ;__;

I think I'd much rather if the highest evolution was around 50, really. There's 156 Pokemon (lol I forgot so I had to look at the forum description, how useful for it to be there - 10/10 for us, for having wrote that in lool), 153 you can find... and really, it's the highest amount of regional Pokemon. For such a high amount, and with only about 15 Pokemon not having evolutions, it's kinda dumb that the evolution levels ARE SO DAMN HIGH.

At least on the plus side it means that they're so strong that it takes a true master to evolve them!

Yeah Nica, it takes a master Trainer to raise a Deino all the way into Hydreigon.

Well yes, I totally agree :)

I think the high evolution levels are to give you a bit of a challenge.

You really don't have to be harsh about my opinion though, but I do kinda agree with you. And that I do use Lucky Eggs to raise them a lot higher.

It is true though, they might have done that to make trainers interested in evolving Pokemon into strong ones at such a high level.

Beloved February 7th, 2012 1:51 PM

I wasn't trying to be harsh, I was merely pointing out the obvious. They revamped the Exp System, and it has had many mixed reviews. They most likely hoped that the scaling Exp would help alleviate the grind, but without realizing it, made it worse.

Sorry if I seemed harsh, but I was just stating what I thought.

They probably did that because of not having any Chansies or Blissies or probably because of what you said.

DarkWolf13 February 7th, 2012 8:30 PM

It never bothered me whatsoever because when I was raising my Deino, I kept battling the Elite 4 and after 3 rounds with the Pokemon League, I got a Hydreigon. The same way for my Volcarona when it evolved from Larvesta.

Jellicent♀ February 7th, 2012 9:39 PM

I honestly kind of like it. It's almost more realistic, as ironic that may sound when talking about fictional creatures. But by comparing the anime and whatnot, Pokemon obviously don't evolve on their designated evolution levels. I mean, how many episodes have you seen with an older man having a Stage 1 Pokemon and claim the Poochyena is as old as his is, yet they've been every where and have beaten all of the Gym Leaders? In games that Poochyena would have evolved on level 18, where as the character's hasn't even bothered to pretend to evolve. I just like the realism of it. Besides, like Toujours said, if mine evolve too early, I have nothing but new moves to look forward to.

d4rka8isz February 7th, 2012 10:03 PM

I don't really care about the evolving stuff. It doesn't really bother me. Besides, if you really want a Galvantula or Bisharp on your team before the first time E4, then go take the guide's advice and grind on Victory Road and fight the people in Nimbasa. And if you need them after the first time E4, give them an Exp. Share and go to a post-game route and find an Audino or fight in Nimbasa. It's not really that much of a bother after you beat the game the first time. Yes, it's kind of annoying before you beat the first time E4 and a small time after that when all the trainers have Pokemon in the 60's, but that's about it.
