I used to always get drowsy to the point of hallucinations at three o clock every school day, but thankfully that has past. I must have looked like a stoner or something....

Nihilego March 26th, 2012 1:49 AM

I hallucinate randomly and fall asleep randomly but those two things are unrelated. And both are irritating. ~_~

Impo March 26th, 2012 2:14 AM

Sometimes late at night I hallucinate, but I think that's something to do with transition into the different sleeping stages. Once I thought I saw a huntsman crawl under my pillow, but it was green.

That reminds, has anyone here ever tried lucid dreaming? I'm currently obssesed with it, but have only managed it once or twice (and then the effects were minimal)

I have a new found respect for you. You have been out on the job hunt for over twice the amount of time as I have and somehow you are still going. How do you do it? What is your secret? Because fellow Mathematician, I could really use a helping hand here.

Legendary Silke March 26th, 2012 3:54 AM

I just do something part-time for the time being.

Even that is exhausting for me.

I think some people fail to understand that a job's a job. You get the same thing from working regardless of what you do; money. People got to do what they got to do to make a living and provide for their families, which I think is remarkable and highly admirable and respectful.

LOL since leaving college I have had no offline life... I can't go anywhere because the parents have exclusive use of the one vehicle we have registered, and even if I could, it's a good 20-30 minutes to a town with anything decent to do socially anyway :/

And then there's the whole "I don't have money since I've been out of work for over a year and nobody wants to hire me" issue...

Seems like you're holding yourself back. I was doing the same a while ago, and I share the same problem: until I go back to school in the fall, I live with my dad and he has a single car that we have to share. While it isn't exclusively used and registered to him, I don't really use it that much unless I need to drop an application off, or go for an interview. But I can relate. I've applied to a few jobs, and I hear back from some and get interviewed. They just don't hire me, and then I get a little depressed and ask myself "What am I doing wrong? Why don't these people want to hire me? If they could just give me a chance, I'd prove them all wrong." But hey, the job market is tight out there. Everyone's looking for work. You just have to stop being so selective. You can be selective when you have a job, have that income coming in, and are looking for different work. In the meantime, build up your resume, make contacts, volunteer. At least that's what I tell myself, anyway.

Certainly not bad advice. It just seems that no matter how many interviews I go to, there's always someone better than me. I just need that chance to prove myself. I should just swallow what little pride I have left in myself and diversify my job hunting.

Nick March 26th, 2012 9:42 AM

I don't really see the point of interviews. They don't display the potential of the employees, from what I can tell. I wish I could just say "Look, I think interviews are pointless, but if you give me the chance to do the job, I'll cast aside all of your doubts of me as an employee." Because really, most people doubt me, but once I get a chance, I tend to prove them wrong. In fact, proving people wrong and making them look a fool is such a motivator for me. So if someone tells me I can't do something, I'm going to do it and I'm going to do it better than I would if I didn't get told that at all. You know?

Shiny Celebi March 26th, 2012 12:37 PM

I hate interviews as well. I apply for so many jobs and never get so much as a call, they just dont even want to interview me. Its getting so frustrating.

Karma Police March 26th, 2012 12:41 PM

I don't really see the point of an interview too. But I'm pretty sure it's just to see how you react in a conversation, and apply your social skills.

Oryx March 26th, 2012 12:41 PM

I'm frustrated because the job I want over the summer hires pretty much solely on interviews but they have their big interviewing day while I'm at school. Last year I emailed them and asked them if there was anything I could do and they never replied. This time I've called them but they haven't called back yet. ;x I'll give them till Friday and call again since I just called today. I WON'T LET THIS GO

Shiny Celebi March 26th, 2012 12:44 PM

Ive even called places Ive applied to, and get replies that they havent looked at my application or are not hiring. This gets me really down.

Sheep March 26th, 2012 12:46 PM

Carvel (ice cream store) was the only place that got back to me for an interview. I thought I did pretty damn well but never did get a call back. >:

but yeaaah this summer I need to either take classes or work. It'll probably be the former though ;_;

Cello March 26th, 2012 12:52 PM

I hate jobs that have you interview. I lack a lot of confidence when it's just me and a resume.
I guess it's partly because I know there's probably another applicant who is way better than me, or who wants the job more.

I'm glad i'm going into into a field that requires a portfolio and not just a resume/yourself, because really it's the portfolio that does all the talking in that interview.
Most people think anything art related for a job is just silly and not reliable, but honestly if you have a impressive portfolio it's not as a tough as people think.

Well this place is special because it's a waterpark. I know it's hiring, it rehires all new staff every year lol. So it's not a matter of them not hiring, it's a matter of getting to them before they fill up.

Karma Police March 26th, 2012 1:01 PM

I don't need to do jobs during the summer holidays. Instead, I have to do buttloads of 'holiday homework' which is equivalent to 9 hours of work 7 days a week.

I don't know how it works in other countries, but the last time I visited America people told me they didn't have anything known as holiday homework which they have to do over the summer. >_>;;

Oryx March 26th, 2012 1:05 PM

Some schools have summer reading, where they require you to read 1-5 books over the summer and write reports on them, and some of my AP classes had a lot of summer homework that everyone crammed into the last week of summer, but every other class summer was free. I'm in college anyway though, which I don't think ever has that kind of thing since you don't register for classes until close to the end of the semester before it which gets rid of it entirely for spring semester classes if that makes sense lol.

I just need a job desperately. If this doesn't work I may end up working with my mom but that's a 2.5 hour bus ride to get there when she can't drive me which will be miserable. :(

Reading 5 books is something that I actually like doing over the summer. And writing reports is almost always included lol.

The homework is more like divided for each subject. Create a whole model, or create a file, maybe even give us some stuff that forces us to go outside. It's really crappy and whole lotta work though. But it does end up being counted towards the final grade ;____;

Last year I managed to escape though, because of a workshop I participated in. It was a massive relief, and in the end I was left with more free time than I could handle. But it was during the summer that I became active in PC d:

Livewire March 26th, 2012 2:02 PM

/me thankfully has a nice job. :x

Oryx March 26th, 2012 2:12 PM

Give me your job Live. :(

I have a nice job now but it doesn't pay much and ends when school does.

Karma Police March 26th, 2012 2:14 PM

We aren't allowed to work here anyways lol. Even part time jobs, iirc. It's against the law for anybody under 18 to work.

Nick March 26th, 2012 2:19 PM

I'm planning on applying for a job that I'm somewhat certain I'll get. I have experience working at CVS, and the stores are enough alike to really set me apart from most of the other candidates that would probably apply there. But it's a part time job, and with my experience with part time jobs, relying on getting hours isn't very good for you, so in order to keep myself busy, I'm going to be volunteering at the library and Habitat for Humanity. Admittedly, I'm really only doing that to make references and pad my resume for the future. I think I'll change my intents after a while of volunteer work, though. Those are the only places I know around here that accepts volunteer service, but I'm sure there's plenty more. I'll probably look around for an additional part time job as well.

Once that happens, I'll be happy and busy until I can go back to school and get an on-campus job.

Nihilego March 26th, 2012 2:47 PM

Good luck with that, Nick! I hate having to apply formally for stuff like that lol. Uni was annoying enough so I'd hate to have to do it for a job too. Shame that's exactly what I'm gonna have to do when I get to said uni, haha.

I've got a job working in a guitar shop whenever I'm not busy with school. It's so flexible I can just come and go as I want more or less, haha. And I ref football matches sometimes too but I've been doing that less lately. School and health's been busy taking everything over lol.
