Welcome!
Why not, I have no idea either, it would be very fun playing music with other people, even if they are scattered all over the world!

Also what's a bassoon? Never heard of one of those before.

Thats really cool! What program are you thinking of using for the producing>

Did you enjoy learning the piano at such a young age?

I don't know, I want to use Logic Pro and its fifty different plugins but I don't have the money and tbh I'm not sure if it's the right thing to buy.

Ooooo, that sounds like a pretty good program. Does it have a trail you could perhaps try out/ does anyone else know of any good programs Droomph could use? Preferably free by the looks of things.

Also good you enjoy music at such a young age, I didn't start until I was like 15 or 16 :S

Sounds something like that, and it can be easy depending on how much you care really.

Meah, I like dubstep nowadays and I really hate that people are like "ITS NOT REEL MUSIC DOOD"

That's the main problem I need to get over.

First instrument I started playing was piano because my parents basically forced me, but I was pretty into it too at the time. Slowly got out of it lol.

That would be the recorder because every 4th grader had to learn.

I see you said the first instrument was piano but your only instrument played is guitar? Have you completely given up on the piano?

The flute eh ;)
The flute has such a wonderful sound! How long have you been playing it for? Do you play in a school band or anything like that because a flutes that kind of instrument if I remember correctly.

Oh, why did everyone have to learn the recorder??

Pretty much yeah. I can still play it. But I barely remember any chords, and know no scales. So I don't consider myself a pianist. Two years ago my band had appointed me keyboardist for a short while and I hated it. I would play the most basic stuff >> Now I'm back on guitar. :D

Oh you should definitely re-learn it. Pianos sound amazinggggg, especially played well, and you can do so much with them;
Spoiler:

Why didnt you like it with the band! You coulda way busted out on the keyboard like a boss! Are you still with the same band? What type of music do you guys play?

Been playing for almost five years now, and the whole reason I learned was for the school band.

Everyone had to learn because...because... I don't even know why.

Cuuuuuuzzz....I just wasn't as comfortable with it. And especially playing in front of people, I had no confidence in my piano abilities. I wish I could've busted out like a boss, cause it's definitely true that pianos/keyboards can sound amazing if they're played correctly.

I'm still with the same band, sort of. Our bassist has become very busy with life and probably considers himself out of our band by now. It sort of sucks, we don't want to add in someone else because it loses the novelty that it's our high school band, just a few friends that got together to play music. The role of bass playing is being taken up by the singer right now, who also plays guitar, so it's not too bad of a transition. Who knows, I might be able to get some bass time. :3

We play alternative rock. We used to cover artists like Muse, Dire Straits, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Right now we're working on another RHCP cover, and a Kings of Leon song.

What was the first instrument you started playing, how old were you, and how did you get interested in playing that instrument?
Also I know the feeling, sometimes I dont like playing infront of people, I use to hate it but I dont care as much anymore, I usually play at work to try and get people to come into the shop >.<.
The violin is a majestic instrument, do you play it in a band or just lone wolf it??
Which ones is the string bass again?

@Cacturne
Do you still play in the school band? And you must be pretty good now after 5 years! Any examples of yourself playing youd like to share?

@Pen
So you've been with this band for how long? Aww, Im sure the bassist will come back/ the singer will be able to handle it! Those are some pretty cool bands to cover, do you guys do gigs/ write any original music?

cacturne4512 May 8th, 2012 6:10 AM

Yes, I do still play in the band. Once I get it up to par, I might post me/the band playing some Lion King songs.

I started playing violin when I was around 7, I think. Been at for about 6 years but this year I had to stop actively playing it so I could concentrate on my clarinet and string bass. As for why I picked the violin, my parents offered me a choice between the violin or the piano. In all respects, should've picked the piano because I now absolutely fail in bass clef. :P

Gotta love my clarinet though. It's fun to play on for me and I get to join a lot more ensembles to play stuff like marches and overtures.

We got together in late 2008 I think? We didn't really start taking it seriously until about a year later. And hah, I don't think the bassist is going to come back to be honest. I love him, but he'd started to piss me off and I'm not surprised he's gone. His attitude towards our band one year ago, when we were finally recording our first originals, was awful. He was never around and would never make time for the band. Any free time he had probably went to his girlfriend. He still hasn't recorded his bass lines for our songs. I'd love to have you guys listen, but they're simply incomplete. Bass is so important.

We did do gigs back in high school. We played a few local venues in our city, and managed to land a gig at a rather well-known venue, where some of my favourites have played, including The Mars Volta and In Flames.

The now-pseudo-bassist of the band is wondering if he should go ahead and lay down our ex-bassist's tabs to complete our songs. As much as I want them done, I don't want to steal that away from our old bassist. He did put effort into writing for the songs and it'd just feel wrong if somebody else recorded them.

We'll probably start working on some more originals soon, which will definitely be recorded over the summer. Once those are done I'll have y'all listen.

He may have worked on the bass lines but if hes not willing to put them down and they are for the band you shouldnt feel bad about using them. I think the new bassist should just put down the bassline if its been tabbed tbh.
And that'd be really cool if you showed us some of your songs xD.

I'm actually in my school's ensemble, jazz band, a honors ensemble outside of school, and the occasional festival ensemble when that time of the year rolls around. And marching band. Marching band's awesome.

Week of crash course in marching, and bam, we're off to our first game. Our shows are usually fun and changes from year to year. I think this year, the marching band at my school's going to do something called 'The Groove', so that'll be interesting to find out about.

We usually play to a packed house in our auditorium so... I guess a lot of people? :0

I believe it was the harmonica and I forgot how old I was back then. I wasn't really interested with that instrument -- maybe curious is the better verb for it. :3

Thank you. ^^
Yes, but I now I play just the bass and the guitar because I kinda forgot how to play the flute; I only started with it merely due to it being a requirement in my first year of high school MAPE (Music, Arts, and Physical Education) class. Also, yes, the bass is my main, though I'm still not that good at it; it's also my favorite because I simply love the low sound it produces. <3
All right, thanks for being considerate. :3

Yep, they are. Just blowing on them was already quite fun. xD
