Personality Test (Gold/Silver or HeartGold/Soulsilver)

I. Introduction
Spoiler:
Hey everyone, thanks for expressing your interest in this challenge. I created a personality test challenge a few months ago, but it didn't pan-over well since several people including myself had to evaluate a very long personality test per participant. We could not keep up! But alas, the personality test challenge is back up since I have created a polling system. This is the first of several personality tests. I felt that GOLD/SILVER would be a nice start since participants may use GBC or DS games. However, I do plan to make other generation challenges in the future. If you have any questions just post a comment in this thread ;)

II. Standard Challenge Guidelines

Spoiler:

For several tests, there will be a (C), (Q), or (T) after each of three pokemon. If you are using Chikorita, Quilava(Cyndaquil), or Tododile you must use the Pokemon listed before the corresponding letter.

Spoiler:

For example, if a result was: Rattata - Raticate (T), Spearow - Fearow (C), and Venonat - Venomoth (Q).

If you have Chikorita, you must use the Spearow evolutionary line. If you have Quilava (Cyndaquil), you must use the Venonat evolutionary line. If you have Tododile, you must use the Rattata evolutionary line.

There are several version exclusives and alternate evolutions; there will be in a slash in the results that will separate the gold and silver pokemon exclusives or alternate evolutions. You may select either option.

Spoiler:
Spoiler:

If you complete a test and you see something like this for results: Vulpix - Ninetales/Growlithe -Arcanine.

Spoiler:
A. If you are using Pokemon Gold(HG), then you must use the Growlithe line and disregard the Vulpix line.

B.If you are using Pokemon Silver(SS), then you must use the Vulpix line and disregard the Growlithe line.

Spoiler:

If you complete a test and see something like this for results: Slowpoke - Slowbro/Slowking.

Spoiler:

You must use exactly one Slowpoke, and you may choose to evolve it into either Slowbro OR Slowking.

Spoiler:
If you complete a test and see something like this for results: Eevee - Flareon.

Spoiler:
You must use Flareon since the alternatives were not listed.

Test Bugs:
Spoiler:

  • If your results for the WHAT'S YOUR SIGN TEST indicate that you must use Eevee, then you may choose to evolve the Eevee into any of its evolution's.
  • The TURNING A NEW LEAF TEST should say Tododile rather than Chikorita!

  • I CANNOT EDIT TESTS ANYMORE, but I forgot to incorporate the new evolutions for HeartGold and SoulSilver. If you are using one of these DS games you ARE allowed to use the Bolded Pokemon I forgot to include as options. These include, magnemite > magneton > magnezone; Elekid > Electabuzz > Electrivire; Murkrow > Honchkrow, Magby > Magmar > Magmortar; Mantyke > Mantine
  • ; Misdreavus > Mismagius; Tangela > Tangrowth; Azurill > Marill > Azumarill; Gligar > Gliscor; Swinub > Piloswine > Mamoswine; Rhyhorn > Rhydon > Rhyperior; Sneasel > Weavile; Happiny > Chansey > Blissey; Munchlax > Snorlax; Togepi > Togetic > Togekiss; Porgon > Porygon 2 > Porygon Z; Wynaut > Wobbuffet, Mime Jr. > Mr. Mime; Bonsley > Sudowoodo

Read ALL instruction first before starting tests.

No Hacking Pokemon into the game.

You may only trade pokemon if it is needed for a trade evolution. (ie. Steelix traded holding metal coat.)

Must obtain and use all pokemon you are assigned.

Emulators ARE allowed.

No test re-takes.

Must defeat Red to complete challenge.

Must use Pokemon Gold/Silver, you may also use HeartGold or SoulSilver.

I hate to sound stupid but I don't like those questions. I don't plan on doing any of those things in the future, I want to do acting, and none of those people are my celebrity crush, All that food sounds disgusting and none of those colours express my mood, there should be more options.

I cannot predict the exact options to fit everyone's needs. Let's take the celebrity crush for example. Just select which one is the closest. I am not going to list every single actress/actor. Or, if you are planning on becoming an actor, it seems likely that you would be required to do some type of modeling. Furthermore, there are more than enough options in this test; there are around 6-12 options per question! I also doubt you find all of those food options to be "disgusting", please be reasonable if you have any suggestions.

@ JdBud, I originally had this setup for GOLD/SILVER versions exclusively, but thought that expanding to the HeartGold/SoulSilver would attract some more participants. So I will make sure to make an amendment to the test bug list to include new evolutions on existing gen II Pokemon for those who chose to use HeartGold/SoulSilver. Thanks for reminding me with your team assignment :)

@ everyone...A thank you to everyone who has completed the Tests and Forms! I wasn't sure if I would be able to set this all up so it wouldn't be too confusing. I hope you all enjoy this challenge, and make sure to update so we can see your progress. Any suggestions for this challenge or future challenges would be greatly appreciated.

BEST OF LUCK ;)

11wildy May 9th, 2012 2:50 AM

I probably won't take the challenge, but I just did the test to see what I would get. First thing is that often I can't answer a question properly, like the mood I am in. Same for the color question. Another thing I don't like is that my team is THIS:

Starter: Cyndaquil
Bright horizon: Farfetch'd
Body and mind: Smeargle
Sign: Sneasel
Magikarp out of the water: Qwilfish
New leaf: Victreebel

This means that I got Cyndaquil, which is a good pokemon. Sneasel is very weak in gen 2, since it speciall attack is low. Victreebell doesn't get any good moves, thus is useless later in the game, Farfetch'd has overall low stats. I don't even want to START about Smeargle. And Qwilfish. I used one. It is good. But it takes AGES to find one!

Nope. You can just catch the Shiny Gyarados; I will make a note in the rules to clarify this! Thanks for your question.

Question can i trade in Lickitung, Aerodactyl and Qwilfish?
Lickitung is found after the 7th gym and will be SO underleved at that point,
Qwilfish is hard to find
and Aerodactyl cannot be found in the game altogther i dont think

tente2 May 11th, 2012 8:30 AM

Alright glad to see this is back up, in a more orderly fashion :3

I don't think I'll sign up this time around though, but we'll see. (It's mainly the selection of the Johto games--Not a huge fan, and right now I'm playing Crystal. X3) Glad the challenge is far more controllable, now though--it's not overwhelming anymore.

Maybe coming up with teams for others was fun, but using pre-made personality quizzes sounds interesting too.

Here's how you obtain Aerodactyl:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5bEV9cEkcc

Unfortunately, you cannot hack Lickitung in, however you can train it to catch-up with the level of your other pokemon. Also, you cannot hack Qwilfish in either, plus it will be fun catching it ;)

I wont hack them in, i will trade them in, its different, and aerodactyl can be found AFTER the E4 and it will take ages to find an old amber, i guess i will just use 3 pokemon...

Well, you can't trade them in either. Also, the child who uploaded that video was able to obtain the old amber and revive Aerodactyl in under 3 minutes, it is not too long. And...you will be able to use Aerodactyl for eight gyms and the final battle with Red after the Elite Four. Not to mention, you can still use Lickitung and Qwilfish much earlier in the game. The challenge would not be a challenge if you were able to just hack or trade half of your team in. However, in-game trades are permissible, although it does not pertain to the Pokemon assigned to you.

It's inferred that you must you all the assigned pokemon on your team. Also, Meganium cannot be the result of your Bright Horizons test. It was not a possible choice.

Well, you must not have taken the test the first time or you may have incorrectly recorded your results since Meganium is not a result of Bright Horizons. Unless the test is taken again, and a valid pokemon is in that slot, you are not active in this challenge. It will only take 3 minutes to get it done though.

Actually, you may trade ONLY if an evolution requires so.
Have fun!

Your form is still indicating that you will be using two starters, which you cannot. Please retake the Bright Horizons test since Meganium is not a valid choice, and then post the revised form. Thank you!

After 5 and a half gruelling hours of gameplay I've been able to grind Paul up to level 25 in order to learn headbutt. Now I can go headbutt some trees to find my exeggcute. I've defeated bugsy and my rival in Azelea and got cut, could not use it however as I did not want to teach it to B.B.Q. My pokemon are now Paul level 25 slowpoke, Shocker level 18 flaffy, and B.B.Q. level 19 quilava, going to get my exeggcute which I will be naming Jeff, no specific reason, just feel like it.

Thanks, but i meant that i literally can't trade lol.

I can't use the Global Trade System on my SoulSilver because my internet type isn't compatible with my DS.
I don't have a link cable to trade between devices either.

That, coupled with the fact that i don't want to delete my progress on my physical game, means that i'm playing Silver on a browser-based emulator.
Which, as far as i am aware, is impossible to trade from.

I might head into town later and look for a gameboy link cable, a second gameboy advance sp & pokemon silver, and then re-start the challenge on the gameboy.
Otherwise i'll try to change my net type, and attempt to use the GTS again.

Well I haven't updated because I had exams all week. I beat the elite four last week but was too lazy to update it. lol.

Beat the first guy with Gyarados and Lickitung.

Beat Koga with Typhlosion and Snorlax

Beat Bruno with Pidgeot and Gyarados

Beat Karen with Jumpluff,Gyarados and Typhlosion.

Beat Lance with all of my pokemon. But Jumpluff proved to save me many times.

Overall Jumpluff was the MVP of the team. I would put my opponent to sleep and then Leech Seed it. If not Poison it and leech Seed it.

Now on S.S. Anne.

Oops...It looks like you accidentally repeated Arcanine as the result for the Magikarp out of Water test.

Please Repeat test, unless you can think-back and remember what your result was, and then edit this post. Thanks.

Here is my rivals challenge team, ill do this after my normal run

Starter: Totodile
Bright Horizons: Farfetch'd- At least its an 'early' flyer
Body and Mind: Tauros- Interesting
Sign: Drowzee- not sure what opposite to piceces is, so i did the one opposite it in a circle
Fire-Type: Ponyta
Grass-Type: Sunkern- Interesting again- Let's see how He/She does

Conclusion: Pretty well... Mixed team, fearing two horrible pokémon, 2 ok pokémon and 2 very good pokémon.
I'm quite happy with that

Now this looks cool. I'm not gonna jump in on this just yet, but I do have a question. Don't mean to be smart, but G/S and HG/SS only means no Crystal version, right?

One more thing: I was wondering, how do you put the team sprites in your post(s)? Do you just look for a sprite on Google Images, or is there a specific source you use? I'd really like to know! Thanks.

What I do is go on bulbapedia (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Main_Page), search for your pokemon, and go to the bottom of the page where they'll have the sprites from each game. If you don't know how to put it in a post, all you do is right click it, choose 'copy image url' and paste inside the image tags- [IMG] (Url here) [/IMG]. You can also go on google and search, but I find bulbapedia quicker. :)
I hope that answers your question!

You know, if you need a HM Slave for Surf to get the Red Gyarados, you could always use Sentret as it can learn most HMs.

TheFifthAlice July 8th, 2012 10:56 AM

Um... I tried the quizzes and I really can't do them right. None of them have the answers I want... I don't want to do any of those things in the future. I don't know ANY of those people on the crush part, nor do I even have a "hollywood crush"... None of those things sound "tasty". I don't know why there isn't "The city" or something on the "where do you wanna live" thing.... and on the second quiz, I got Skarmory - Gligar. Does that mean I can use either one? I know that Skarmory doesn't evolve into that....

Update #1 - Handling a Super Nova!

Synopsis
Spoiler:
  • Named myself Dylan. (Not my real name but it's a good name.)
  • Chose a female Cyndaquil and nicknamed her Firestar.
  • (Also chose Frame Type 10 and FAST Text.)
  • Grinded Firestar to Level 8 and visited Mr. Pokémon.
  • Challenged the Passerby Boy (The Rival) and saw his name which is...Jordan.
  • Got Pokégear, Running Shoes, and the Map Card
  • Caught a Sentret (for HM Slaving) and named her SLAVE
  • Firestar burned EVERYTHING on Route 31.
  • Destroyed the Bellsprout Tower and got TM70 Flash
  • Firestar evolved into a Quilava, thanks to Sage Troy's Hoothoot
  • Skipped the Gym's Trainers (First time I have done that) and charred Falkner's Pokémon and won the Zephyr Badge and TM51 Roost
  • Got the Togepi (Mystery) Egg, gonna need it later, so I'm ran around Violet City getting Togepi closer to hatching. (Also got a Super Potion from my mom...THANKS MOM!)
  • Met the Kimono Girl (creeper) and nabbed HM06 Rock Smash from the fat dude
  • Caught a Bellsprout and named him Slave 2 (for Flash of course. BTW limiting myself to 3 HM Slaves) and taught him Flash.
  • Went to the Ruins of Alph, got the Unown Report and...
  • Togepi hatched! Named him Mysterio and found out he has Hustle...yeah. And he has a Bold Nature...yeah...he acutally has Extrasensory though O_o that means...HIS DADDY WAS A NOCTOWL.
  • Let Mysterio take on a LV4 Ekans at LV4. 2 Hit KO with Extrasensory...but got poisoned with no Antidotes...luckily Potions are kinda useless now so I used them to keep him alive. :D (And used my only Repel that I got just after Mysterio got poisoned.)
  • On Route 32, while beating every Pokémon and Trainer I encountered, Mysterio used HYPER BEAM on Fisherman Justin's poor Magikarp O_O DON'T MESS WITH MYSTERIO! (Also destroyed one with a Petal Dance or two.)
  • Swept every man in the Union Cave, beat Hiker Anthony too. (Also got TM09 Bullet Seed)
  • Saved in Azalea Town

Currently in: Azalea Town

Update #2 - DIE MILTANK DIE!

Synopsis
Spoiler:
  • Took down Proton and the Rocket Grunts
  • Entered the Azaela Gym
  • Mysterio used Eruption...on Bug Catcher Al's Caterpie
  • Mysterio learned Yawn after defeating Bug Catcher Al's Weedle
  • Firestar learned Flame Wheel after defeating Bugsy's Scyther (With an awesome crictal Quick Attack and two Embers)
  • Squashed Bugsy, obtained the Hive Badge and TM89 U-Turn
  • Encountered Rival Jordan
  • Mysterio used Roar of Time on Rival Jordan's Croconaw O_O...and it did NOTHING!
  • FINALLY caught Paras in the Ilex Forest and named her Ugly Betty, Relaxed Nature with Effect Spore...and a good Attack stat for a level 6...
  • Taught Ugly Betty Bullet Seed while training on Route 34
  • Grabbed TM63 Embargo on same route (Later found TM66 Payback, huh...TM number is fitting)
  • Ugly Betty learned Leech Life after gaining EXP from Pinicker Brooke's Pikachu
  • Bought TM52 Focus Blast (For Firestar later) and TM38 Fire Blast (For giving Firestar some more kick...now)
  • Also bought some repels (BTW THANKS MOM FOR BERRIES...USELESS BERRIES!)
  • Taught Firestar Fire Blast (definitely replaced Ember)
  • After gaining EXP from Firebreather Walt's 1st Magmar, Mysterio learned Encore (Hilarious if you lock them into a stupid move, plus I would probably use it more than Charm)
  • Went into the Goldenrod Underground to train more after sweeping Route 34 and got the...Fashion...Case? Yay?
  • After tunneling through the Underground, went to get a Bicycle (Also nabbed the Radio Card)
  • Grabbed a Soothe Bell and gave it to Mysterio and got TM28 Dig
  • Ugly Betty learned Spore after defeating Psychic Mark
  • Finally pounded Whitney's Gym (Freaking Miltank STILL wouldn't die after a Fire Blast!), so I was rewarded the Plain Badge and TM45 Attract
  • Got the Squirtbottle (and Berry Pots)
  • Killed the Sudowoodo
  • Snagged a Hyper Potion on Route 36
  • Grabbed an Old Rod from the Fisherman at Route 3's PokéCenter
  • Made it to Ecruteak City
  • Fished for a Magikarp and named him Doomkraken...I forgot his Nature but he has the Swift Swim Ability and he knows Splash, and is Level 10.
  • Saved at in front of the PokéCenter in Ecruteak.
Currently in: Ecruteak City

NOTE: At the moment, the computer with the save file for this challenge is being replaced. If I get it back with no save file, then crap, gotta restart ALL OVER again. If I am able to use the save file, then I will continue.
NOTE 2: I will be either hacking Rhyperior in (because I'm using an emulator) or just using Rhydon. Forgot to mention when I signed up.
NOTE 3: Now I know what you are thinking. Why grab a Level 10 Magikarp instead of the Shiny Gyarados or wait for the Good Rod and get a Level 20 Magikarp? Simple.
1. The Level 20 will evolve into Gyarados at Level 21. Gyarados learns Bite at Level 20 so yeah.
2. Might as well get a Gyarados earlier.

update
pick cynadaquil as my starter did elms request caught a bell sprout and a caterpie traded caterpie for a lv 1 murkrow (freshly hatched from platinum) evolved cynadaquil leveled up murkrow to 12 and bellsprout to 10 sorry was focused on my hack for a while

Alrighty, been looking for a challenge and this seemed interesting and fun. Playing on an emulator since I can't find my Gameboy Advance SP to play my Silver cart, and I'm not willing to erase my progress on SoulSilver. Also, VBA on Linux sucks, just sayin'. Works well enough for my purposes in any case, so I can't complain too much.

Alright, since i had nothing better to do, update time :D I'd put it in a spoiler but i forget how :L

- Started the game, remembered that silver was genderlocked - became a man and named myself Kirito.
- told mum i knew how to work the phone..she explained it anyway
- recieved Cyndaquil from Elm, named it Chibi.
- trained Chibi to lvl 8
- went to rest in Cherrygrove, got dragged around by an energetic old man
- continued on way to see Mr.pokemon, Chibi lvled up to 9 thanks to a kakuna
- recieved a pokedex from Oak and the mystery egg
- recieved panicked phonecall from Elm, casually made my way back to town
- bumped into rival, put him in his place. Chibi lvled up to 10
- found out rivals name was Zyrus
- visited Elm, told police about Zyrus, visited mum, mum decided to hoarde my money
- caught female Rattata lvl 2 on route 45/46 (i forget), named her Aiya,
- grinded Aiya to lvl 10 on route 30
- tried to find a shuckle in dark cave without flash. failed. realised i'd need rocksmash.
- Chibi lvled up to 11
- reached Violet city
- trained in bellsprout tower, Chibi finally learnt ember.
- Chibi reached lvl 14 on the top floor of sprout tower and evolved into Quilava
- watched Zyrus beat the monk and escape, proceeded to beat monk myself and obtain the useless HM Flash
- returned to route 30 until Chibi reached lvl 15
- returned to route 29 to find a sentret for slavery while training Aiya.
- needed to wait for daylight for sentret, had to go to work so saved on route 29.

Update #no 2. and since the weekends over i'll have less time xD shame D:

- started on route 29
- gave up on sentret
- trained Aiya on the way back to Violet City, she hit lvl 13 and learned hyper fang
- decided to take on the gym, made quick work of the apprentices with Aiya's hyper fang before facing off with Falkner.
- Falkner was weaker than i had anticipated, Aiya easily overwhelmed his pokemon and i obtained my first badge
- Aiya lvled up to 14 thanks to Falkner
- Recieved a phonecall from Elm telling me his assistant wanted to see me in the pokecenter
- Recieved an egg from the assistant, didnt really feel like carrying it around but it seemed like i had no choice
- hunted for a hoppip on route 32
- caught lvl 6 hoppip and named her Lanna.....since she doesnt learn an attack till lvl 10-12 ish its going to be tough
- pushed Aiya to lvl 15 before training Lanna
- first battle with Lanna was against another hoppip... what are we going to do, splash each other to death?
- trained Lanna to lvl 10, she learnt tackle and can now finally fend for herself
- continued to grind Lanna to lvl 15
- guy tried to sell me a slowpoke tail when i went to rest at a pokemon center, the price was extortion i tell ya
- recieved an old rod from a guy inside the pokemon center on route 32, that was nice of him since i needed to catch myself a magikarp
- found a lvl 10 magikarp right away, how lucky :L named her Umi , since Lanna was already the lvl quota i started training..this
might end up being tougher than Lanna's training
- feels like the only way Chibi is getting any training lately is as a back-up fighter for Umi 's battles :(
- caught a mareep, named it Torch, taught Torch Flash
- Chibi reached lvl 16 while covering for Umi, mom phoned to say she'd spent my money, but since it was a super potion i forgave her
- revisited dark cave with Torch so i could obtain the potion on the floor
- Umi lvled up to 11, a little while later,, Chibi reached lvl 17, not sure who's benefitting more from Umi's grinding
- decided to grind in union cave for a change of pace/hope for an easier time :L
- placed Torch in the PC while resting up... it'll probably not see the light of day again until i'm forced to pass through dark cave a lot later on
- Togepi hatched from the "mystery" egg (surprise surprise) while training in union cave.. didnt give it a nickname..was unsure what to do with it, so placed it in the PC
- found a few dropped items on the floor in union cave, since it wasnt pitch black i couldnt understand how people had dropped them, either way
it was my gain. I even found a TM containing swift :D
- needed to do some things so saved in union cave

had a bit of time spare so i did some more of the challenge :)
update no' 3:

- started in Union cave
- grinded Umi to lvl 15 ( and it learned tackle!! :D) and rested in Azalea town, the rocket grunt guarding the well was quite rude,
- Aiya reached lvl 16 in the process of all this
- spoke to Kurt, who explained the actions of Team Rocket before charging off to be a hero
- followed Kurt to the Slowpoke Well, rude grunt was nowehere to be seen
- Kurt's attempt at being a hero failed as soon as the idea had begun, he apparently injured his back while falling into the well and shoved his self-assigned task onto me... oh well Chibi could do with a few punching bags
- found the rude grunt who was guarding the entrance, he attacked me in anger, must have been the anger he felt aty himself for running from an old man, either way Chibi eradicated his rattata and lvl'd up to 19
- continued into the well, fighting more Rockets and the occaisonal slowpoke, one rocket challenged me to try and defeat all the grunts within the well....Challenge accepted.
- defeated all grunts and Chibi hit lvl 20, the last Rocket threatened me, but i wasn't too bothered since their pokemon were pretty weak
- Kurt came to congratulate me for my efforts, and i noticed that his back is mysteriously better all of a sudden, but since he offered to make 'balls' for me for free i cant hold anything against him.. thanks Kurt :L
- went to visit the charcoal guy in azalea in hopes of obtaining Cut, however he just commented on his apprentice still being in ilex forest
- i decided to go look for his apprentice, just as i was leaving town Zyrus shows up and asks about team rocket before calling me a liar
- we battled to prove my strength. Since he started with a gastly i had no choice but to use Chibi as he was the only pokemon who knew an elemental attack
- beat gastly with a single ember, then switched to Aiya and took on his Croconaw with Hyper Fang and Quick Attack. Stuck with Aiya for his final pokemon, Zubat.
- Our victory allowed Aiya to lvl up to 17. Zyrus blamed his defeat on his pokemon, geez what a bad attitude
- found the apprentice and learned that his bosses farfetch'd had run away, decided to go and catch it for him
- the Farfetch'd ran away once it saw me, but i demonstrated my intelligence and managed to trick it into running back to the assistant
- turns out the charcoal master had arrived and gave me HM Cut as thanks for finding his pokemon, that was nice of him :)
- With Cut in my possession, i decided to hit the gym
- took on the entire gym with Aiya and won my second badge. The experience lvled her up to 19
- caught an Oddish in ilex forest, named it Blade, taught 'Blade' how to Cut
- pushed Aiya to lvl 20 where she learnt Focus Energy and evolved into a Raticate where she tried to learn scary face, but i refused to let her D<
- made it through ilex forest and grinded Lanna to lvl 20 ( at lvl 18 she evolved into Skiploom)
- saved just outside of ilex forest
