I like the name 'Finn' for Shizui. It fits his looks, his apparel, and his type specialty. Alder's grandson reminds me of "Fang" from Dave the Barbarian (hopefully somebody appreciates that reference). I don't really understand what's up with him yet, so I can't think of a name. He looks like Alder, though, and he uses Volcarona, so I would imagine that a fitting name would have to do with the sun or moths. Perhaps 'Sonny'.

marcc5m June 28th, 2012 2:26 AM

I think they'll surprise us and name blue guy something like Jenkins or Roger.

EDIT: 900th post only 100 more and also I think blondie should be named Dexter.

Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 / Dream Radar - US & European release details

Various Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 localisation details have been announced. First, it is out in the US on October 7th and Europe on October 12th
PokéWood is to be called PokéStar Studios
Shizui's US name is Marlon
The various parts of the site have been updated to reflect this
If this is legitimate, Marlon makes me think of Marlin, which makes me think of Nemo's dad.

Darn, Accelgor'd

I was expecting something more related to water, but I think I can see a hint of "marine" in the name.

Hikamaru June 28th, 2012 4:37 AM

Marlon seems like a nice name, since it's a pun on the marlin - a species of fish. Shizui/Marlon has some fish-like features on him, notably the fins on his pants.

I don't get why they decided to change Pokewood to Pokestar Studios. It sorta seemed unnecessary IMO.

JadeSkittles June 28th, 2012 4:38 AM

I wonder if its released in early October and not mid to late due to P4 Golden which is a big game for Vita and they don't want to release the same day due to lack of sales for Pokemon? The earlier the better. I like the October 7th date

Moist likely copyright issues in the states but not in Japan. also people were complaining from what I heard about Pokewood. Poke Studios sounds better to me.

Oh, so it was a cultural barrier that caused the name change. I get it now.

I often find it hard to adjust to an English name cos I spent so much time learning the Japanese.

Ho-Oh June 28th, 2012 5:03 AM

Marlon really isn't pleasing compared to what it could've been. Let's just hope Alder's grandson doesn't suck. n_n

PaxAmericana June 28th, 2012 5:22 AM

Marlon is okay, but there is tons of better names than it, namely stuff like Nate and water related names.
Pokestar Studios has that Hollywood ring to it imo, while Pokewood sounds more shanty-like, and barely has a Hollywood ring to it

vaporeon7 June 28th, 2012 5:40 AM

I like the name Pokéstar Studios, it fits it rather well imo. I'm sure if it weren't for copyright issues that it'd be called Pokéversal Studios.

Crysta Blade June 28th, 2012 5:41 AM

I was linked to this trailer. Apart from the very narmy voiceover, the one noteworthy thing about this is that the rival is named Hugh in it.

bwburke94 June 28th, 2012 7:09 AM

For all we know, that could be another Hihihiroshi.

Bluerang1 June 28th, 2012 9:26 AM

PokeStar Studios is an awesome name! I really like it :)

Oh and Marlon. Really? Suits him I guess. Oh Game Freak xD

Rival is Hugh! Hikari was right! :o

And okay I like being positive but Corless is a sucky name for Akuroma. I mean really >!<

Homika's German name is the best! (Mica). Love that name.

And Shizui's German name isn't bad, Benson. Marlon's better I think, so English wins here.

Jellicent♀ June 28th, 2012 10:13 AM

Marlon?
I...LOVE IT. Marlon is perfect. His hair looks like a fin anyways, so it fits. xD
I love all the English names! Now I really can't wait. <3

Twilight-kun June 28th, 2012 10:48 AM

This is why I want an option to use Japanese names all this pre-release hype with the Japanese names fits and then I get the English and I'm completely lost

Zephele June 28th, 2012 11:01 AM

Marlon's pretty nice. It's certainly better than anything I'd come up with.

Corless is pretty meh, though. If they just romanized Hugh, romanizing Akuroma to Achroma would have been nice too. Oh well. I guess it's not too bad.

Zayphora June 28th, 2012 4:19 PM

Corless? SERIOUSLY?!??! I HATE IT IT'S SO MEEEEHHHHH it sounds like a PIRATE NAME>>>>>>.> rage

Marlon is...okay. I would have liked it to be something else.

Hikamaru June 28th, 2012 9:32 PM

Corless? Really?

What an weird name... Akuroma just has a better sounding imo.

At least I got Hugh's name right.

Now we just need Banjirou and the protagonists.

Ho-Oh June 28th, 2012 9:41 PM

I get how it kinda says "Colorless" but lmao even Colorless would've been better than Corless :x

Akuroma is what I'll stick to calling him, I think. Don't like Hugh as a rival name. :(

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 28th, 2012 10:15 PM

Corless also sounds a bit like coldless (Kyurem reference?). I think it's the most evil sounding name ever...even more so than Ghetsis and Cyrus.

Marlon makes me think of sea (Mar is spanish for sea). Not sure where the lon comes from though...

Raichupacabra June 29th, 2012 12:39 AM

Pokestar Studios is the name for Pokewood. I finally realized what the "wood" in Pokewood stood for.

I like the English names so far. Nothing that new considering most of the region was already translated a year ago, but still a little bit fresh.

Treecko June 29th, 2012 12:53 AM

Corless?
Really? It's such a strange name, they could of just stuck with Akuroma or changed it to Achroma.
Marlon is an good name, just wondering how they came up with it.
Most of the new English names are really good, especially Roxie. :D

Zayphora June 29th, 2012 4:44 AM

Marlon is pretty much a play on Marlin, which is a type of fish(derP) as far as I know. It's cool that you saw Mar (or Mare in Latin :P) in it though.

I just don't get why they'd give Akuroma such a weird name. I see the evil and stuff, but it just sounds so AWKWARRRD....and like the name of a weird chubby pirate captain...Captain Corless....ewww.....it is just such a weird name and he will always be known as Akuroma to me.

bwburke94 June 29th, 2012 10:21 AM

As I said, Hugh is not confirmed to be the rival's name in English. He can be renamed anyway.

Sydian June 29th, 2012 3:00 PM

I'd love the female protagonist to be Alli or Allison, but that's what I already plan on naming her when I play my game haha. So...I kinda do want it to be official, but I kinda don't, cause then it'll be the norm and I will feel less original. ;( I could have sworn I read it was Mei though? The guy should be named UMMMMMMMMMMM Gira because he reminds me of Giradialkia idk. :)

So far I like the English names, like Roxie and Marlon, but Corless is...odd. Banjiro should be COJIRO! cause that'd make me smile. Maybe he'll be Trey, if his full name is Alder III because people usually use Trey for the third in the line.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 29th, 2012 3:07 PM

Or maybe Tres, Trei, etc.
I can see the player girl as being Allison, it matches her look.
I see the boy as a Cole or Kyle.

Sydian June 29th, 2012 3:10 PM

Awww, I'm glad someone else sees it. :) She reminds me of me, and I wish my name was Alli so I guess that's where it stems from. The male protag totally looks like a Kyle (not referencing Totally Kyle js). Cole would work too, but I'm leaning more towards Kyle. Banjiro could also be Trois lol. ;) Banjiro is an awesome name on its own though. I wish we could just keep it. XD

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 29th, 2012 3:25 PM

I get the feeling that Banjiro will keep his name even though most of the others have not except for Hugh who got the romanized version of his name.

Jellicent♀ June 29th, 2012 3:38 PM

Meh, I don't like the sound of Banjiiro, so I'm hoping that they change it. However, I do like the idea of Kyle for the main protagonist. Has a nice, cute ring to it that may of the others don't have (gold? Red? rly?)

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 29th, 2012 4:58 PM

Kyle and Allison sound like average english names like Brandon and May so they seem appropiate unlike Hilda and Hilda...

gunnerpow7 June 29th, 2012 5:09 PM

Wait.... Corless? Really?

Note to self, don't let The Pokemon Company name people such silly names....

>.>

Sydian June 29th, 2012 5:13 PM

I CHANGED MY MIND I DON'T WANT ALLI TO BE HER NAME NOW cause I'll feel unoriginal ;o; I do like the sound of Kyle and Alli (or Allison) much better than Hilda and Hilbert. Like...idk what they were thinking when BW was getting localized. :/

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 29th, 2012 5:52 PM

Perhaps the girl's name would be Alice, or Lea,perhaps Isa.

Hikamaru June 29th, 2012 6:05 PM

Since we only have the protagonists and Banjirou's English names not revealed, I guess this should now be called the "Banjirou and B2W2 Protagonists English Name Speculation Thread".

I did come up with a few themes for the protagonists' names but now I have a new one.

Kyle and Remy. It comes from "Kyurem", the version mascot.

Remy is a unisex but more common as female name so that's what I chose for the girl cos: Kyle + Remy = Kyurem.

Sydian June 29th, 2012 6:22 PM

Quote:

I can see Alice working too, yeah.

I like this, except when I think of Remy, I think of Remy the rat from Ratatouille. Great movie and all, but Remy the rat is a boy. So I just think of it as a male name. They could go for a more obscure name like Rema though perhaps. Or maybe the guy could be Remy and the girl could be Kyra or Kylie. Something more uncommon, I suppose. After all, Lyra isn't really a common name and that's HGSS' female protag. So eh, you never know.

Hikamaru June 29th, 2012 6:32 PM

I was going with a theme relating to Kyurem.

Remy is like, one of those unisex names. I see a few girls with it. Although Rema sounds like a good name to go with that theme.

Male protagonists usually get the "primary" part of the theme while female protagonists get the "secondary" part of the theme. That was what they were doing when they named protagonists after game versions and also what they tend to name some characters in the Pokemon Special/Adventures manga.

Kyra sounds too similar to Lyra, so I wouldn't like that... it's like how "Mei" sounds too similar to "May".

I couldn't think of any "ky" names for the boy so I went with Kyle.

Sydian June 29th, 2012 6:37 PM

Yeah, not many male "Ky" names. Also, his Japanese name is Kyouhei so...idk maybe it actually will be Kyle? Mei makes me think of May too, but I don't think they'd reuse another protagonist's name. So maybe Mia or Mya? Which imo don't suit her so I kinda don't want those lol... Remy and Kylie still fit the Kyurem thing you were going for, just swapping Remy over to the male player. But I do think that's pretty clever! You know, I'd really take any name over Hilda and Hilbert honestly. lol So even if the girl is named Remy, it's WAY better than Hilda. Hilduhhhhhhh.

Bluerang1 June 29th, 2012 6:37 PM

Well we know the protags are going to have matching names. Their Japanese names have things to do with transparency so I'm thinking

Clark and Clara. Like clear. But then again Touya and Touko were to do with transparency too but we got battle names -_-

*checks what battler is in other languages* Or better yet, battle names.

Girls

Spoiler:
Averil (influenced Avril) - cute
Alma - I like it.
Cheyenne - Could work. American.
Deborah - Perfect really, totally a Hilda curveball type thing.
Madison - Maltida, Tilda (me gusta these two)
Tyra - good
Zelda - alol

Boys
Spoiler:
Art - could work
Averill - like the girl's
Barack - =3
Boris - Hilbert curveball
Harvey - Mew~
Kane - I like it
Tyrell - matches Tyra

There's more than that but those are the ones I liked. Though they don't match, I can see Boris and Deborah because they gave us Hilbert and Hilda last time. I like Art and Avril though.

Sydian June 29th, 2012 6:41 PM

Clark and Clara...I can see that tbh. He looks like a Clark. She looks kinda like a Clara I guess? :( I dislike the matching names though, if that's the case again. It's not like they're fraternal twins or something so idk why they have to match. They haven't really matched before BW, have they? Brendan and May, Lucas and Dawn...maybe there's something I'm missing. I guess I should look up the meanings lol. :( And if those examples do actually match, at least it's not an obvious match like Hilda and Hilbert.

Interesting choices Bluerang, I like Harvey and Madison.

Just remember that we can only have 7 letters in our character's name cos of space limits.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 29th, 2012 7:21 PM

I like Alma and Averil the most. Since Hilda and Hilbert started with the same letter maybe they will too.

Also if they go with Barack they should pick a name that means fire for the girl (Barack means lightning). Though it seems unlikely that they'll pick that name for obvious reasons...

Hikamaru June 29th, 2012 8:32 PM

I just thought of another theme for the protagonists' possible English names:

Travis and Penny.

Cos it sounds like "transparency", which is the origin of their Japanese names.

Travis = Transparency.

Penny = Sounds like transparency.

I have to admit there's so many themes to choose from.

I have now compiled a list of names according to themes I thought of.

http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/8/8b/Kyouhei_Xtransceiver.png Possible names for the boy:
Spoiler:
Blake = "Black"
Damian = "Dark"
Kyle = "Kyurem"
Ryan = "Reshiram"
Thomas = "Thunder"
Travis = "Transparency"

http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/b/be/Mei_Xtransceiver.png Possible names for the girl:
Spoiler:
Fiona = "Fire"
Lisa = "Light"
Penny = "Transparency"
Remy/Rema = "Kyurem"
Willow = "White"
Zoe = "Zekrom"

SouKoLian9102 June 30th, 2012 4:43 AM

If I stick with the Reshiram/Zekrom theme, the dude should be Vincent or Victor (Volt) and the chick should be Bree or Bella (Blaze)
Although I doubt Bella just because Bianca's Japanese name was Bel.
*is NOT a Twilight reference. LOL.

Nepse July 4th, 2012 1:51 PM

How about "Khoury" for the male, it sounds kinda like his japanese name + it shares some letters with Kyurem.

droomph July 4th, 2012 3:09 PM

If that's gonna be his English name, we might as well make it Cory (or Kory), because that's more conventional. Pokémon, I think, is not a place for names like "Aymie".

bwburke94 July 4th, 2012 6:02 PM

Already used in the anime. You wouldn't happen to be a Kirbopher fan, would you?

Anyway, the things left to name are:

-A few new locations
-A few new items
-Shadow Triad
-Banjiro

marcc5m July 4th, 2012 6:06 PM

Shadow Triad will be named Cilan Chilli and Cress.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 4th, 2012 6:25 PM

The Shadow triad is already called the Shadow triad in english, they were in BW remember? Or did they give them individual names?
Ps: They have been shown not to be Chili,Cress, and Cilan

Maybe Banjiro will be Banjo...they sound similar...

Xander Olivieri July 4th, 2012 6:52 PM

I remember Serebii posting that the Absol owning Shadow Triad member was named "Dark", but all of them have the same Kanji I think. I think they may go back to Team Rocket days and not name the Shadow Triad. Bulbapedia doesn't seem to have different names for them.

Sydian July 4th, 2012 6:57 PM

idk. I don't see a Cory/Kory in him, or any variation of the sort. I think he's a nice Kyle, Cole, or Giradialkia lol. And yeah, I think the Shadow Triad won't be getting individual names, so I agree with Xander about going back to the days when no one but you and Gym Leaders had names haha. "Triad wants to fight!" idk yo.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 4th, 2012 7:08 PM

Dark is proably an abbreviation, iirc their japanese was the Dark triad or something around those lines. So in the english version they'll proably be refered to as Shadow.

I don't see the player as Cory or Kory either. Maybe his name will be Calvin? (If so I'll name a cat Pokemon Hobbes).

Xander Olivieri July 4th, 2012 7:31 PM

They had them translated as "Shadow Triad 'Dark'" Like it had a name. But Bulbapedia doesn't have that.

Male PC kinda feels like a Dennis and the girl looks like a Bridget.

Sydian July 5th, 2012 8:11 AM

I definitely don't see a Dennis in him lol. Dennis makes me think of Denny's though, and obviously that kid doesn't look like a building. Or pancakes. I like Bridget though, or some variation of it. tbh as long as they don't name her some unisex name or something like Susan, I will be happy. But saying that, I've jinxed it and they'll name her Susan. ick.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 5th, 2012 3:10 PM

Maybe Danny but Dennis? Hearing that name makes me think of Ghetsis...
Bridget though is a a good name though, I can that as her name.

Aquarius1997 July 5th, 2012 5:28 PM

Bridget is an good name for her but Dennis reminds me too much of this dude from school who in all ways NOT related to pokemon

WHY IS SHIZUIS NAME MARLON
MY STEPDADS NAME IS MARLON
HE HATES VIDEO GAMES AND NOW IM REMINDED OF HIM
ughh!

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 5th, 2012 8:05 PM

Are any of the cities/towns yet to be named?
Marlon makes me think of a farmer...and the color Marron...

Twilight-kun July 6th, 2012 6:09 AM

hmph
I'm going to call the players and rival by their Japanese names

pity about Homika and Shizui's name butchering though

I wish there was an option to use Japanese names for the main story and setting it so you can english pokemon names and japanese character names...

I think thats all the new citys/town that have been named. We still need Shizui's (not Marlon) town to be named

That is such a great idea that us over-proud Americans would never implement

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 6th, 2012 12:31 PM

Maybe Marlon's town will have a name similar to Venice like Aqaenice (aqua plus Venice).

I don't think they butchered Roxie and Marlon's names, they are still better than BW's protagonists.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 7th, 2012 1:16 PM

Do you think they'll change the names of some of the lesser places and things such as the Plasma Frigate? It seems like they would keep it the way it is but we thought the same about Pokewood.

PlatinumDude July 10th, 2012 5:33 AM

Okay, just thought I'd bring this up: Akuroma/Achroma is now known as Colress.

IMO, that doesn't roll off the tongue as well as "Corless" did.

Lt. Col. Fantastic July 10th, 2012 3:57 PM

I'm kinda confused why Kevin would be the rivals name. Just because it starts with K like Kyurem? Is that something GameFreak usually does to name characters?

Other tahn that, I like Ivey for Homika and Flynn for...that water guy...

P. S. I've never seen it spelled Ivy for a name. But that doesn't mean much, I only know two Iveys. :P

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 10th, 2012 4:03 PM

Wonder what's the right spelling Colress, or Corless. I hope it's Corless and the other form was just a typo on the site.

Zayphora July 10th, 2012 4:23 PM

WAT!?!?

COLRESS?!?! that has no point whatsoever. It makes me trip over my tongue, it doesn't sound as evil, and it doesn't have any real symbolism like Corless=Colorless did. UGGGHHHH i HOPE THIS IS A TYPO

blue July 10th, 2012 4:24 PM

Akuroma´s English name revealed!

His name is Colress. He is a Pokémon strength researcher.

I don't know what it means but it sure doesn't suit him, For a second I thought it was Corless but definitely didn't expect that.

Xander Olivieri July 10th, 2012 4:26 PM

Colress = Colorless.

Corless was possibly the typo.

Hikamaru July 10th, 2012 5:00 PM

Colress. A bit harder to pronounce but it's a nice name.

I guess they were doing the whole "colorless" theme.

I guess Corless was just a typo after all.

Bluerang1 July 11th, 2012 9:35 AM

Why didn't they just cal him Cole? Or Ross. Or Coless.

bwburke94 July 15th, 2012 2:21 PM

I had my doubts about the "Corless" spelling, and "Colress" fits better with the other unpronounceable Plasma-related names.

Though I do think the other name does roll off the tongue better. xD

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 17th, 2012 10:36 AM

I always saw Corless as a contraction of the world Color (removing the l and O) with less. the R instead of the L in the less part looks strange to me.

Zayphora July 17th, 2012 1:31 PM

I really hate Colress's name now. I had just gotten used to Corless, which semi-fit him, and now GAME FREAK drops this on us....

I suspect that even if it wasn't a typo, Game Freak may have realized that it sounded like "Core-less" reminding me of "heartless" which from what I know, Akuroma isn't...fully. Or maybe they thought it was too similar to Cyrus....idk.

BrandoSheriff July 17th, 2012 3:14 PM

No matter which spelling it really is, I'm going to be calling him Corless from now on. Sounds better to me. :P
