Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

Really Nifty and Really Good.

Sounds good, if it works, but I'm an Opera loyalist...

...and for that, get ready to change to another ISP because web site will surely ban your IP. In fact, they will ban your ISP meaning (for example) anybody using AOL is ban from a web site.

Look here:
http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/2004_12.html
It's a developer's blog and look for the title, "how to speed up firefox?"
It seems to me that it has more side affects then actually helping you.

That's another way of putting it. You hammer broadband, and you can say goodbye to your ISP.

I did this. If anything, it slowed down loading. -.-

Yeah...it seems to have more cons than pros...I would try it though, but I ditched Firefox a while ago for Opera.

I think I've seen a tweak like this for Internet Explorer, although you have to go into the registry and edit it to make that one work. As far as I've heard, this can speed up loading for both dialup and broadband, as long as you don't set the number of connections too high - otherwise you get overload problems and all that. Use it but don't overuse it, I guess.
