Dialga, Palkia, or Giratina?
Seeing as we've got something like this with "Lugia or Ho-oh?" I figure, why not one for the DPPt mascots too, right? So, who's your pick: Dialga the Dragon of Time, Palkia the Being of Space, or Giratina the Renegade Pokémon?
...and if you've got the time to explain why, then that's always welcome! |
I like Giratina the most out of the three.
I like Giratina because what isn't there to like about a big honking antimatter dragon?
Although, not playing Platinum that often and not really battling or using a Girnaitna myself, I still prefer this Pokemon over the rest. It's design in Platinum was a winner compared to the designs of Dialga and Palkia for me personally.
Defenatly Giratina, it's a pain to find in Diamond/Perl though.
I love Giratina's design (both formes) and shiny coloration! Palkia is a close second though.
Giratina also got a decent amount of backstory in Platinum that really made him a memorable Pokemon for me. |
Giratina. It's design and concept captured my interest from the get-go.
For some reason I like Dialga more, probably because time really interests me, Diamond was my first DPPt game, yeah, biased. Giratina is cool but I also like Dialga's design a lot too.
I like Dialga more, primarily because I played with Diamond first. It's also good at taking hits. Palkia does come in close because of its good offensive capabilities.
I always thought Palkia looked whack. Dialga was better, but Giratina was my favorite.
I really like Dialga. Entirely because of the whole Time thing, I think it's fascinating. Giratina's a close second though. seriously, wtf palkia
I'd have to go with Dialga. Diamond was the only game of the generation I got to play, and I just really love Dialga's design. Roar of Time was a splendid signature move for it, and I've always loved the animation. I never really liked Palkia's design, as it just looked pretty weird to me, and not in any way as majestic as Dialga appears to be, so no way I'd ever choose it.
Giratina would come as a close second though, as I've always loved the whole two formes thing, and both had great designs. I also liked how they gave it a bit of an eerie backstory and feel to it, with the whole reverse world and such, so definitely a close run between those two. So yeah, my favourite is Dialga, with Giratina close by, and Palkia long behind. |
Oh, I see that for the moment I'm the only one who voted Palkia...
I'm not really fond of this trio now, but in my first game of Pearl Version, I really liked Palkia. I was more interested in the master of space than in the master of time, and I liked its double-type. Its design is pretty... Strange, of course, but I prefer it than Dialga's or Giratina's. |
I'd pick time manipulation over space and antimatter on a whim. In fact, since I need time to explain why I prefer one over the other two, all other arguments against Dialga are invalid.
Seriously though? I played Pokémon Diamond and not Pearl, and I liked Dialga more than Giratina because the time affinity is way too appealing. Oh and Dialga's blue. I don't know why but I prefer his colour over the other two's pink and black for the overall concept of huge tyrannical legendary beings that control time or space or antimatter. |
Dialga has always been my favorite of the three, because of its design. It looks so cool. Girantina would come in close second though.
I hate Palkia though, ugly :< |
Oh. My. Arceus.
-spazz moment- I LUFF YEW GIRATINA -dies- I love giratina becous of its design and type combo. I mean, a GHOST DRAGON!? Two of my favorite types...combined! All into one big dragon full of ghost-ness, dragon-ness, antimater-ness, awesome-ness, and pokemon. And its SS walking srprite. Both formes are awesome. And a baby giratina would look adorable, considering the arceus event where you get your giratina at level 1. |
I don't really care for any of them and never even got to access the event where you choose one. Dialga's teeth are weirdly placed and that bugs me, Palkia looks hunchback, and Giratina is alright. So I guess I'll pick Giratina. I do love Ghost types, lol.
I love Dialga. Guess why?
... ... ... That's right, Pokémon Mystery freaking Dungeon. Just his theme is so...cool... :D |
I don't really like any of these. They don't really seem to be inspired off of anything, and they are covered in pointless armor. They are decorated in clashing colored markings, and they aren't even too good in battle. If I absolutely had to pick one, I'd pick Giratina, as the Ghost/Dragon typing is useful in battle.
While I did choose Pearl initially because I preferred Palkia over Dialga (it reminded me of a pink Godzilla at the time), I've grown to like Dialga more ever since I finished the game. I now prefer his unique typing and steel dragon-llama design, and controlling time does seem like the coolest power out of the three of them.

Dialga wins this one for me. The design is amazing, Roar of Time is the best signature move, and being the Dragon of Time makes for the one of the best legendaries, at least imo. Palkia doesn't appeal to me at all and is why I bought Diamond instead. Giratina is pretty cool but the design isn't as good as Dialga's.
Palkia for me. I hate Dialga because it always cheats on PMD. Stupid Roar of Time. And Palkia is pink. PINK!!!! I have a problem.
Dialga
I think that Dialga has a better look than the other two. That may just be that I prefer blue to pink, though. I love the feather/spikes on its back. It's just a generally cool Pokémon. YAY FOR DIALGA. <3
Well in Platinum I really enjoyed the Distortion World, so I guess that makes Giratina my favorite. I wasn't exactly in love with any of the legendaries from D/P/Pt though, so that doesn't mean that much.
Palkia would have to come in a close second, despite it's um...bizzare design. I kind of liked the Spacial Rift in PMD2. It was cool. |
Dialga FTW. Why? Simple. In PMD 2, Primal Dialga was the coolest Pokémon in the game. Also, Diamond was the first version of Pokémon I got for the Nintendo DS.
Moar love needed for Palkia!
I chose Palkia after debating between it and Giratina as I like the idea of manipulating space and its design is appealing to me *shrug* |
I picked Palkia cos its the first i caught in pearl and got used to battaling with it. but later i caught Giratina and realised how cool it was with shadow sneak and shadow force
I absolutely hate Dialga. With a burning, fiery passion. No, it's not because it always beats me, because it doesn't. It's because its design in horrible - a long headed, blue, metal, space donkey. And was dumbfounded at all the people who loved him over Palkia. "Oooh, I want Diamond because Dialga is in it? Why do I like Dialga? Because everyone else does!"
Eh... Giratina Please. |
Dialga by miles for me - it was a combination of liking its design whilst not really liking the other two as much. Plus, it was the mascot for Diamond and it's my fave game of the three as well :D
My vote has to go to dialga. None of the above isn't even a match for Kyogre, Rayquaza, or Groudon.
This is about the only time I won't choose the Ghost type. I looove Palkia. <3 I don't know, but I just love the typing and design, not to mention Surf gets a STAB boost lol. Palkia is probably one of the only pokemon I've actually trained to 100.
Dialga was too slow for me and had a weird cry. :P Giratina in D/P didn't do all that much for me. Giratina-O was cool, but I still like Palkia more. |
Apart from Regigigas, I don't care at all for any of the Sinnoh legendaries, unfortunately. Maybe if they'd given any of these three a semblance of personality or interesting character design, I could muster up an opinion on them but... nope. To their credit, however, they're at least more interesting than the friggin' Lake Guardians. Ugh.
palkia and giritina
i really like giritina and palkia because palkia can learn alot of other moves than dialga or palkia including dark and ghost and flying but palkia can learn psychic moves which psychic is one of my favorite types
i meant giritina can learn alot of other moves than palkia and dialga |

So we've got a steel-wrapped herbivore dinosaur that controls time vs a insect dragon with ghostly hands which transforms into a golden tapeworm with a orb and controls antimatter vs a fish like tyrannosaurs which can literally tear apart space.
I'll go with the latter, if not for the insanely good dual STAB. |
Palkia is my favorite of the three. It was my first 4th gen legendary when I start playing Pokemon again. I don't really care about it battling ability. xD
Giratina by far. The concept is way to cool and the artwork is way better than Dialga/Palkia.
I went with Giratina, cos I love Platinum way better than Diamond & Pearl not to mention Ghost/Dragon is one epic but interesting type combination.
I also love how awesome it looks. |
Not really a fan of any of these, but I don't wanna be boring & choose "none", so I'll choose Dialga.
I will pick Giratina. But only its Origin forme. Don't know why but its Altered forme seems weird to me and I love seeing Giratina around the Distortion World.
Being Giratina my first one, the second would be Palkia. I have to say I have only played Pokémon Diamond and Platinum, but Palkia has something that I like. And I think I got tired of seeing Dialga everytime I played Diamond so that could be another reason why I like Palkia more than Dialga. And isn't it cool the combination of Water/Dragon type? |
giratina~especially origin form <3
I use Giratina the most. Not that I hate the other two, but this guy is just a balance between the trio.
Not to mention that its Attack and Special Attack are fairly balanced. |
Quote:
So I would have to say Palkia, Giratina, then Dialga. |
I have to say Giratina right after Dialga.
Dialga because of its type and because of Roar of Time. Primal Dialga also looked extremely cool. http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/0/01/MD483PFL.png
Palkia, cuz Dialga has some kind of fart-sound. and Giratina isnt from this world haha.
I like Giratina the best, then Dialgia, and finally Palkia.
I honestly prefer dialga because ice attacks and dragon attacks only deal normal damaga......... besides it has only one weakness and that is the gorund type
Of the three, I would say that Giratina is my favorite. It has my favorite typing of the three (although I do like Dialga's Steel/Dragon, too). I also love that it has the two formes, one more offensive and the other defensive.
Also, the Distortion World made me like Giratina that much more! |
I'll be honest, I don't like any of them :p But if I had to choose, I'd go with Dialga just because of it's Steel typing. I think Palkia is somewhat cool but it's design looks rude ;; Giratina I just plain don't like because it's scary and unoriginal - plus it looks more like a Yugioh monster than anything xD And Dialga's somewhat cool with a pretty sleek design and an interesting typing, so he wins my vote n.n
Even though I haven't used any of the three in my main team I'm going with Dialga here. I think its design outruled the other two easily. A unique typing - Dragon/Steel, seriously that's a great type to introduce!
Being the ruler of time in Pokemon which sounds like a hard job. Yet Dialga manages it so well xD. Although all legendaries are powerful, this one is beastly with it's signature move- Roar of Time. So for this one, I'm going with Dialga all the way xD. |
Quote:
I'd explain it in the same way, but I'd say Palkia is a purple-pink kind of guy. |
For me its Giratina Because the Ghost\Dragon blew my mind.
I liked Dialga the most because of its design. Although Giratina comes in second with its Origin Form.
Dialga was my muse until Platinum came out. Giratina took the spotlight.
I've always hated Giratina. Palkia's awesome though. Cool-looking dinosaur dragon thing with a pink body. STAB Surf doesn't hurt either.
I've despised Palkia's design since day one, so it's a toss-up between Dialga and Giratina (Origin Forme). Think I gotta go with Dialga. Steel/Dragon is a pretty nice typing.
Dialga is a bad ass looking pokemon, Palkia is okay looking, And Giratina in origin Forme looks bad ass, But I like Dialga better.
I choose Giritina. The Ghost/dragon typing is pretty awesome and I like how he is he keeps the dimensions in balance. Definately my fav of Arceus's dragon trio(well i liked dialga first but Giritina caught my eye when I found out he existed)
I really don't know, for I like all three of them.
But If I had to pick, I'd say Palkia. |
I played Platinum first, but Giratina is still such a boss in my opinion.
http://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen4/overworld/frontf2/487-origin.png http://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen4/overworld/frontf2/487.png "Giratina is called the Renegade Pokemon in the Pokedex. Renegade is synonymous with "rebellious". Giratina was banished to a different dimension for being violent. Satan is often known as the Rebellious One. He was banished by God to Hell for leading a rebellion against God and the angels. Giratina in Origin Form resembles a serpent and in Altered form a basilisk. Satan takes the form of a serpent and a basilisk many times in the Bible. When in Origin Form, Giratina has 6 wings, 6 rib bones, and 6 spikes. When in Altered Form, Giratina has 6 rib bones, 6 spikes, and 6 legs. The number of the Devil is 666." |
I'd definitely go with Giratina. What can I say? I love director's cuts like Emerald and Platinum :D
I am going to of to go with Dialga. I never played Pt. so I can't give a very good answer. But Girtina is extremly close 2nd. I don't really care much for Palkia.
I always thought Palkia was kind of cool, and Spacial Rend is nice because you don't have to recharge after using it, even if it didn't do the same massive damage as Roar of Time, but I'm going to go with Giratina. Outside of it's Distortion World form, it just looks OK, but when it's in that form, I think it's one of the coolest looking legends in Pokemon.
At risk of sounding clichè, I'd say Giratina. Although it's orgin form looks horrible, the alternate one is awesome and just looks epic. I loved it instantly. Also, Giratina's special move may not be as strong as Dialga/Palkia's (subject to opinion) but I still love its move pool.
Quote:
Giratina because it is the coolest and has 2 forms!
Quote:
And personally, I liked Palkia the best out of them. Giratina looked prett-y weird looking to me. |
Palkia. Pearl was my 4th gen game, and I always thought that it looked fierce and pretty cool as a shiny.
I liked Giratina a lot as my 2nd favorite, but Dialga isn't the best in my opinion. |
Dialga and Palkia look like statues that can't move, designed to go on parade floats more than anything. Same with Reshiram and Zekrom.
I like Palkia and Diagla although I barely battle with them.
I first got them (all) in Pokemon Raptor EX, so I'm not biased I think.
If I had to choose one, I would go with Dialga. Because it has the best design and best type combination out of the three imo. Dialga is steel/dragon. I don't know if it's unique in that but it gives really good type effectiveness. Only weak to two types, takes normal damage from three types and immune to poison. Palkia is water/dragon. If I wanted that type combination I could use Kingdra too although I don't like Kingdra's design that much either. It is a good type combo though. Also, I'm not a fan of Palkia's design. Although Giratina has more immunities than the other two it has more weaknesses than Dialga and not really rare types in that. I don't like Giratina's design either. In it's origin forme it looks like an overgrown caterpillar and altered forme looks like a big fat creature, like an elephant. |
I'm gonna have to go with Dialga on this one.. I got the short end of the stick when it came down to Legendaries with my fiancee. We buy the partner games (ie: Pearl/Diamond (she lost Platinum), and intend to get B&W, and B2&W2. We pick which one we want, and that's that. Did the same with HG/SS. Being a gentleman, I let her pick first.. she takes the cool one. I see Palkia, and I'm like, "Okay.. he looks damn tough.." I get him (without using Master Ball; was a PAIN), playing with him, get him to 70+.. then I see my fiancee's Dialga..
.......... I was pissed. I don't know anything about Giratina, but even though I have Palkia in my game.. I would prefer Dialga.. so, my vote goes to Diamond. |
Definitely Dialga. It has a massive amount of resistances, and it looks awesome. That and the fact it resists other dragon types. I prefer spatial rend to roar of time, however, and I really don't like shadow force. If your opponent has a single normal type on their team, they can just switch out and you have wasted two turns. As such, Giratina 3rd; Palkia 2nd and Dialga definitely the best
Giratina, especially in it's Origin forme.
I simply adore it. |
Dialga, only because I played Diamond.
Giratina. Love it's design, typing, backstory, world, etc more than the other two. Also Origin form is adorable okok.
Dialga. I think it's pretty fierce some, and looks pretty neat.
And it's unique typing is also pretty neat. It's the only Dragon type to take neutral damage from dragon type moves. |
