Mt. Moon

We all hate caves (I'm pretty sure) but we can't all forget Mt. Moon (For those who have played RBY/FRLG) it's twisting corridors were a testament to mazemakers. But was anyone disappointed with it's design/shortness in HGSS?

I'm rather in a confused state of mind with it. I can't tell if it was trying to save memory for the game or if Gamefreak got lazy. The Clefairy dance was a nice touch but it hardly added up to the lengthy maze that SHOULD of been there.

I'm clearly aware that all the towns and areas were slightly redesigned in the fourth gen remakes of GSC but was making Mt. Moon such a let down intentional?

And on that note, (because I can't remember) was GSC Mt. Moon the same?

I don't think it was a memory issue; just laziness (with that one area, as other places were notably extended from GSC such as Rock Tunnel and especially Viridian Forest which was tiny in GSC). A bit disappointing, but then again I never liked the original Mt Moon either (it wasn't exactly fun to explore and didn't offer much) - plus I actually enjoyed seeing the return of the dancing clefairy. As to why, idk for sure but I imagine giving they reference dancing clefairy in DPPt and HGSS were remakes they decided to keep that version in rather than remove it and replace with another cave we've seen before, only with less point to it as well.

And yes, it was like that in GSC.

Which surprises me really, Gamefreak always take such pride in their POKeMON RPGs. :/

I never played G/S/C, so I was surprised by how small the Gen II Mt. Moon was compared to the Gen I version. Real world-wise, I agree with bobandbill that it was laziness that led to Mt. Moon's smallness. Storyline-wise, I think that parts of Mt. Moon got closed down/were buried over and had to be re-dug.

I agree with bobandbill as well. Completely. I hated exploring the old version of Mt. Moon. It was painstakingly long and annoying.

I don't mind it, the trainers provided exp, there were useful TM's and Items, I would like to see it back. Not that that's possible.

It was the same in GSC, and while in HGSS there was no worry about the lack of data space, that concern was apparent in gen 2, and I would say it was kept short just to stay a bit more true to the originals.
Forests are not nearly as annoying, so expanding Viridian Forest was not such a bad thing--but I'm glad they kept Mt. Moon short because caves irk me. I'm definitely glad they kept the dancing Clefairy though. It was one of my favorite aspects of the originals when I was a child.

I understand the reasoning behind the removal/reduction of areas from the Gen 2 games, but I was a little dissappointed to see that they didn't bring the old Mt. Moon back. Since you don't even need to go through it to get all 8 Kanto badges at that point, it would have been nice to see it restored to it's old self (or maybe redesigned), because it could give players a little extra incentive to explore it with some items and maybe the fossils down there, along with a few trainers. Glad to see they restored the Cerulean Cave and Viridian Forest, though.

I was extremely disappointed in the new remake of Mt Moon. I really wanted to see the mountain that I played through, through my Gold version. It wouyld have been lovely to experience the whole feel of the area again, and while it didn't really offer much - like bobandbill mentioned, it still had more than what it has in the remakes. And in some ways I do think it was just laziness on the developer's behalf, but considering the other added features that didn't exist in the originals -- such as the PokeAthelon which I played and enjoyed extensively.

I honestly have no real memory of Mt Moon whether in its Gen I days or its Gen II/IV days. Maybe it's because it was one of the first big tunnels ever, it would never be as impressive of some of the ones that would appear later in the game (and, indeed, the franchise as a whole). Like the damn Rock Tunnel! Grr... DAMN YOU, ROCK TUNNEL! The dancing Clefairy gimmick was kinda cute, I guess, but that's all I really remember from the whole experience.
