Whitney made me break by gameboy, but Jasmine wasn't that hard since I always had my Poliwrath!

Yui Hirаsаwа August 24th, 2012 3:20 PM

Well Jasmine is always over leveled for me but Whitney is way harder in comparison even when you're not at a lower level that her main Pokemon, especially with the Miltank's moveset :<

Bourne-mouth August 24th, 2012 5:19 PM

In my case, Whitney's Miltank. I always had difficulties with it everytime I face it. I never had any issues with Jasmine's Steelix or any of her Pokemon whatsoever.

Legobricks September 6th, 2012 4:37 AM

Jasmine's type has distinct weaknesses one will have access to by the time she is fought. I'm not necessarily referring to Fire and Ground; consider also Steelix's weakness to Water, monsters of which type one can find in abundance near Olivine... obviously use something else for the Magnemites, or Quagsire.

With Whitney, as I've said elsewhere I find using an Onix to be the best idea, but the utility of her team presents a challenge whatever one does.

bwburke94 September 6th, 2012 8:48 AM

Miltank. GAAAAH. Just die already you fat cow!

Necrum September 6th, 2012 4:11 PM

It was miltank. That was only the third gym, and by that point you're really not very well equipped for a battle against a high HP/DEF Pokemon like that. Not to mention I HATE infatuation. I use Chikorita and do just fine against Steelix.

Affliction September 8th, 2012 3:40 PM

Although I never really found any battle hard, Whitney would be a lot harder. Once, someone said, "You didn't get ANYTHING Super Effective against her!". Which is why Jasmine is much easier. Also, Steelix wasn't hard, because both Water and Fire-Types were Super Effective against it, and you could get a wide range of those through battles. Whitney was a Normal-Type Specialist, and there is ONE way you can get through her easily. Training only your starter in battles.

BMansuper September 8th, 2012 6:24 PM

Whitney is my choice. Since almost every time I replay pokemon gold/silver Whitney manages to beat me at least once with milktank alone. The first time I beat her on my first time was when I evolved my wooper into a quacksire then I could beat her with little problem. Jasmine on the other hand I was easily able to beat with a chikorita as a starter.

giradialkia September 9th, 2012 6:46 AM

Whitney, Whitney, a thousand times Whitney.

Jasmine is just.. not a threat, since by that stage you'll probably have your starter in it's final form, and a few other things that could take down Steelix. The Magnemite aren't a real threat anyway, IMO.

Whitney on the other hand, was a nightmare when I was a kid. She was at a point in the game JUST when you were getting quite comfortable with your team, with a good ol' starter to kick anything's ass. This is how I felt when I first challenged her, then Quilava's moves didn't do all that much.
Then of course, Rollout happened. It's just.. too good. Milk Drink and Rollout made it a force to be reckoned with, whereas Whitney's Steelix was usually a OHKO job.

Bounsweet September 9th, 2012 7:27 AM

Whitney for sure. By the time you face Jasmine you've had time to train a crapton and you have a lot more options for Pokemon who can deal heavy damage (Ground-types, Fire-types).

Whitney and her Rollout Miltank is just... ugh, on the other hand.

xxReshiramxx September 19th, 2012 5:43 PM

I found Whitney and Miltank to be harder to beat because of my starter choice.

Whitney has a Steelix?

In G/S it was Whitney. 90% of the time, I'd win with just one pokemon left, and usually he's in the red. In HG/SS, poor girl, she got nerfed down to nothing. Her Miltank in that game is a minor annoyance, small threat at most. In HG Bugsy was the pain in the ass to beat.

Squirrel September 20th, 2012 6:40 AM

Tbch, I didn't really find either that hard :x I don't get the whole deal with Whitney's Miltank being so hard, but that's probably because I tend to train Pokémon that are good against it and that Rollout doesn't hurt much haha. Although in saying that, I didn't find Steelix hard for the same reason. So I'm gonna go with Jasmine, but that's based on her whole team rather than just Steelix since that Pokémon was usually just OHKO'ed :3

TNTrice2012 September 22nd, 2012 8:44 PM

TNTrice2012

Steelix 100% no doubt! steelix would sweep

BrainWave September 23rd, 2012 12:31 AM

Still whitney- I got charmander for jasmine's steelix.

Treecko September 23rd, 2012 2:33 AM

Whitney because nothing's more frustrating than her Miltank using Rollout constantly and then healing itself with Milk Drink. Jasmine wasn't very hard for me.

Mewtwo7 September 23rd, 2012 3:29 AM

I say Jasmine because Jasmine have Steelix and Steelix is harder to beat

Stodd September 23rd, 2012 9:41 AM

Jasmine was always a challenge, but I would generally have one of my pokemon know dig and over-train it so it could take out that steelix. the magnemites and their thunderbolt was harder for me, because a 'mites special is so high. for me, whitney is the toughest, generally because you don't have a great type advantage that early, HOWEVER, you could trade for that machop in the mart and train it excessively.
in conclusion, that miltank is a pest. whitney was harder.

if only you had a magmar with dynamic punch and fire punch... lol you'd take them both out no prob. too bad dynamic punch isn't available that early. i thought chuck was tougher than both of them though. that dynamic punch hits more than it misses with him, for some reason. and my pokemon ALWAYS hits himself in confusion.
with the right team, neither gym leader is tough. none of them are, actually. they are just annoying! rollout, milk drink, steel tail, its all annoying, but it can be handled somewhat easily.
just my two cents.

MightyHeracross October 7th, 2012 1:43 PM

Well the steelix was gym 6. Not gym 3. I had a much more well rounded and higher leveled team by that point in the game. Thats is why Miltank was always harder for me.

Flaze November 10th, 2012 11:03 AM

I used to always get destroyed by Whitney's Miltank's Rollout. Especially after two or three hits.

I've never had a problem with Jasmine, I always used Typhlosion/Feraligatr as my leader.

alisaie November 21st, 2012 12:00 AM

I usually always had a Water Pokemon by the time I reached Jasmine so I never had a problem with her. Perhaps once or twice, but not anytime that I can remember. While I don't remember the details I'm pretty sure that Whitney was always more of a pain because I almost never have a fighting or rock pokemon with me.

Hikamaru November 21st, 2012 2:45 AM

I picked Whitney cos her Miltank is very overpowered for that stage in the game, and Miltank is one of my fave Normal-types too.

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ November 21st, 2012 8:17 AM

Steelix was a piece of cake compared to Miltank. I never really had a problem with Steelix because I would have a Feraligatr and he would know water type moves. Miltank on the other hand was so annoying with the move rollout; she would keep using that move even if it kept missing my Pokemon. I also did not like Whitney's personality of being a sore loser and she should not be a gym leader.

RockManFan November 26th, 2012 4:52 PM

Growlithe laughs as he annihilates all of Jasmine's pokemon with fire wheel. I don't understand how anyone can find Jasmine to be hard. One fire type pokemon will rock her whole team.
