What was the most dissapointing Pokemon in Gen IV?

With a thread like this about the Fifth Generation, I think the Fourth deserves one too! \o/

So, simply put: What was the most dissapointing Pokemon you found to be or used while playing through the games?

With the variety of Pokemon mostly easily accessable - (Mainly HGSS), there is a lot to choose from, so I really do have a list of pokemon that I found useless and dissapointing -- Dusparance (not surprisingly) being one of them.

... SpiritTomb? That's the start of the inanimate object POKeMON.

Plasmette July 26th, 2012 11:13 PM

I never really found any of the Pokemon I used to be bad. I never use certain Pokemon because I can clearly see which ones are going to be decent and which ones are going to be garbage.

long list
absol
meganium
infernape
bibarel

Carnivine. It's got such a cute design but it totally sucks. ):

Katie the Friendly Ghost July 27th, 2012 2:28 PM

Shieldon. Always seemed inferior to Cranidos, and probably because I prefer the more offensive strategies to the defensive ones.

Well... Geodude was pretty much an inanimate object too. A rock.

Spiritomb on the other hand is a ghost.

I personally like both, since we've seen Spiritomb to be ncredibly powerful -- especiallu under Cynthia's ownership. And geodude does evolve into Golem eventually, which can also prove to be a tough opponent, although it's defense is iffy.

Spiritomb is a rock as well. He's a tomb. A stone memorial that marks the deceased. -.-

ZetaZaku July 27th, 2012 4:01 PM

But he's a ghost. You know, ghosts tend to possess things (in fiction). Geodude on the other hand isn't a ghost.

My point is, Spiritomb isn't the first inanimate object Pokemon. They had them since the beginning.

T!M July 27th, 2012 4:12 PM

No, Spirittomb was the first of the lame ones. Like Icecream, chandeliers etc. Geodude was is a BAMF. So~rry. http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg201/scaled.php?server=201&filename=bobdylan.gif&res=crop

pachirisu. It was such a generic pokemon.

Magnemite line, Grimer line, Voltorb line, and Porygon line aren't inanimate as opposed to Spiritomb?

For me the most unappealing not necessarily ones I dislike, but just didn't click for me were the Finneon line and Carnivine. Never used them so I can't say how useless they are.

It's all about opinions.

I found Bronzor/Bronzong an absolute pain to carry around. I was also disappointed by Driflblim and Lumineon.

About time someone picked up on it. I also never really fell in love with Bidoof... He's to plain.

I actually really liked bidoof, at least, he's grown on me. I think we've never really had an otter based pokemon before Oshawott etc. So I think the concept of them are great, and they prove to be especially useful for HM slaves.

Wasn't BUIZEL and Otter too?

Oh I forgot about Buizel and Floatzel. I do think they outdid the bidoof line, but neverthess I stand by my first feelings toward the line.

Hikamaru July 28th, 2012 9:37 PM

I remember seeing Buneary and I went "Oh, it's so cute".

I decided to train one and hopefully raise its happiness to get a Lopunny but then... I found myself losing happiness rather than gaining it cos I found my poor Buneary falling so easily.

Yeah, what a letdown was that!

I also loved Lumineon's design but it stats really are garbage.

I've always wondered why the coolest looking things turn out to be rather weak.

In one of my run-throughs, I captured and trained a bguneary and it proved to be quite the team member! I didn't have nay problems with it at all, except for the occasional lower level like all of my party members eventually experiences at some point in the game.

Ciax July 29th, 2012 1:21 AM

I also have used a Buneary to great succes, in my first run through of Diamond she was what I would call my wildcard, with a multitude of different attacks. I find Lopunny as an incredibly usefull pokemon.

To answer the topic, probably the biggest dissapointment to me was Ambipom. His wacky appearance coupled with a dissapointing move set just made him not live up to my expectations.

s0nido July 29th, 2012 1:40 AM

The Pokemon introduced in gen4 were actually better than expected, or at least heaps better than the Pokemon introduced in Black and White. I don't remember being especially disappointed with any Pokemon in gen4. Maybe I should play through Platinum again to refresh my memory~

Mr Cat Dog August 7th, 2012 11:52 AM

I liked a lot of the new-for-Gen IV Pokemon, but thought the Shellos/Gastrodon line was very, very overrated. Especially considering that Cynthia had one in her DP team, and it's barely a glorified Quagsire, let alone a glorified Whiscash/Swampert. That one was definitely a disappointment. And out of all the evolutions of previous Gen Pokemon, Ambipom was definitely the most useless and disappointing. I forgot it even existed before looking at Bulbapedia, it's made that much of an impression on me! :D
