Your thoughts on using Rare Candies.

I've always frowned upon using them, but recently I've had to use them...

Reason being, I like to use Dragonite and for me it's next to impossible to get Dragonoir to level 55 without using them.

So what are YOUR thoughts on using them?

Mr Cat Dog August 21st, 2012 9:12 AM

This is a more general question on the usage of Rare Candies in the game, so I'mma move it to Pokemon Gaming Central.

Moving on up

Kieran August 21st, 2012 10:38 AM

I never use them, since it weirdifies the stats.

Pokemon Trainer UV August 21st, 2012 10:39 AM

I admit, I've used them when the difference between levels is too great between my team, and the Pokemon I want. But overall, I don't like using them, since they make my Pokemon weaker. I'm not sure if feeding vitamins compesates for that though..but it's a lot more satisfying to manually level your Pokemon anyways and seeing them grow.

Sirfetch’d August 21st, 2012 11:15 AM

As long as you have EV trained it doesn't matter, use them as you please. However in black and white you can use them from the start because you can EV train post level 100.

DraconianWing August 21st, 2012 2:10 PM

I only use Rare Candies after I'm done EV training my Pokemon.

PokemonMasters August 21st, 2012 5:12 PM

I only use Rare Candies when I cant beat the Elite 4 or the Champion . xD

Katie the Friendly Ghost August 21st, 2012 5:13 PM

In the main game I don't really care about my Pokemon's stats haha. And post game I've got my Lucky Egg, so it's not hard to level up. Thus there is a small collection of Rare Candies rotting in my bag haha.

Haddez August 21st, 2012 5:46 PM

I use rare candies to level up Pokemon that are lower than the rest (Like if i have a level 27when the rest are 40) or if a Pokemon has fainted in the league and I am out of revives I feed them a rare candy to give the health to use a potion.

PlatinumDude August 21st, 2012 7:33 PM

I use Rare Candies only when I need to get my Pokemon at a certain level; Rare Candies don't give EVs.

Brendino August 21st, 2012 8:20 PM

I rarely ever EV train my Pokemon, so I've never had a problem using Rare Candies once and a while. Even then, I still only use them if a Pokemon is under-leveled compared to the rest of my team, or they are one or two levels away from learning a move that I've been waiting for.

LightningAlex August 22nd, 2012 12:19 AM

I gather all the rare candy in the game, and use them when I've beaten the 8th gym leader, to boost my Pokemon before the League. I've never EV trained my Pokemon (I don't even know what that is xD )

Polizard August 22nd, 2012 1:00 AM

I generally use rare candies when a Pokemon is one level before evolving because I am impatient like that.

Inferna August 22nd, 2012 1:14 AM

I use them sometimes, I like evolving my starter pokemon into their final stage with them. They're handy while nuzlocking, especially if you're under levelled.
I remember the days of unlimited rare candies in gold using my cheat cartridge. somehow ran out of money and remember selling them so I could get a Porygon from the game corner xD took ages and they eventually ran out lol

Lockmaster24 August 22nd, 2012 1:22 AM

I really hope Rare Candies don't expire, otherwise my bag would stink. The only time I really use Rare Candies is during a Nuzlocke to buff my Pokemon up that tiny bit before the E4.

MiTjA August 25th, 2012 7:00 AM

Usually not.

I keep them to see how many were placed throughout the game, and in BW2 I think it was even something weirdly high like 20, instead of about a dozen.

I remember at least one case where I used one in the E4 because I didn't bother getting any Revives before entering and some crucial pokemon died xD

Rare Candies do NOTHING, except raise your exp to the next level.

Your pokemon don't get weaker and their stats are not affected in any way.

Rainbow Arcanine August 25th, 2012 9:51 PM

I hardly use Rare Candies unless one of my Pokemon are lagging behind in levels, or if I can't be bothered to train them :P.

Twilight Sky August 25th, 2012 9:59 PM

Indifferent.

I say this because I used to spam a crapload of rare candies on my Pokemon back when I originally played Gen III, and I thought that was the right thing to do at the time. >>; It's kinda embarrassing, my logic was "why bother train when you have rare candies to do the training for you?" It was then that I horribly lost to my friend via a linked cable battle(f yea, those were the times. xD), that I realized that rare candies probably weren't such a good idea after all...

But with that aside, I don't hold it against anyone if they decide to use rare candies on their Pokemon, as long as they realize the consequences(might be using this loosely) of doing so.

Satoshi Ookami August 26th, 2012 1:16 AM

I mostly use Rare Candies if I catch legendary Pokémon that I'm planning to use in my team because most legends are on lower levels than the rest of my team.
I'm not against using them but collecting them is also fun :D

Hikamaru August 26th, 2012 1:39 AM

I don't use Rare Candies much, I love grinding like a madman to get my Pokemon trained.

I only save my Rare Candies for emergencies, like if I have a Pokemon that's struggling to keep up with the rest of my team.

Plumpyfoof August 26th, 2012 1:46 AM

I use them at later levels to power my Pokes up to level 100 easily.
I don't know what everyone means by weirding up the stats or whatever, all they are programmed to do is give your Pokemon experience until it reaches he next level. They don't influence stats at all.
Maybe some are confused but in-game you can use rare candies to get to level 100 after level 30 or so because chances are (if you've had them since less than level 10) you've maxed your EVs.
The only way it stuff up your stats (Pre Gen V) is if you haven't maxed your EVs.

Blues-Music August 26th, 2012 3:11 AM

Well using rare candies isn't that bad.
They are a little rare , and using them is actually a reward for finding them.
People that use the missingno. hack however I find completely wrong.

TeeheeLP August 26th, 2012 7:17 AM

I don't really like using rare candies because I prefer to train my Pokémon myself while it's easy to do, and I consider pretty much any effort easy. ^^

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ August 26th, 2012 1:02 PM

I use them most when IV testing newly bred Pokemon (then I soft-reset). I don't typically use them to level up unless I'm in the final stretch (level 80+) and I want to quickly gain levels, and I don't use them at all during the main game.

I tend to hoard them more than use them.

Sodapop August 26th, 2012 3:49 PM

I like collecting a bunch and thne using them all at once.

Sydian August 26th, 2012 3:58 PM

I save Rare Candy to use right before the Pokemon League. Because by that time, I don't feel like grinding plus I'm ready to beat the game, lol. I don't see a problem in using them as long as you're not just using ONLY them to raise your Pokemon.

Pokemon_Trainer_Danny August 28th, 2012 12:42 AM

I usually use them on a Pokémon in my box. I'm not going to keep a Rare Candy in my bag forever, it's one of the items that I just have to put to use.
