Ah yes, finally we get to see an SAO club :DDDD

Who is your favorite character?

Well, since there haven't really been introduced a whole lot of characters as of yet, there's not a whole lot to choose from, though I'm pretty certain anyways that my fav is Kirito :p It may not be very original, though since he runs the plot he's the character we get to see the most and get to know of the most, as well as he's one of the few male main characters haha. He has a pretty great personality for what I've seen so far, and he's had a lot of decent moments. So yah, pretty sure Kirito'd be my favourite character :D

Overlord Drakow September 4th, 2012 1:48 AM

Yeah count me in. Kirito is my favourite as he is a swordmaster who has an epic long black coat >=D

Squirrel September 4th, 2012 5:07 AM

Wooo, SAO club finally appears! Count me in :D

Who is your favorite character?
Asuna! She's so badass and attitudy until (the stunningly cute and extremely desirable) Kirito turns her around and makes her have some fun :D Then she develops into an extremely complex character who displays incredibly mixed emotions, ranging from anger and disgust at the 'world' they're in to love and compassion for her darling Kirito. She's adorable whilst she's in happy mode and she's so fantastic to watch whilst she's in badass mode, so this definitely makes her a character to remember! Plus she's super mysterious with a legendary nickname (The Flash!) and her character development is a lot of fun to watch.

Overlord Drakow September 4th, 2012 5:17 AM

Yeah Asuna is freaking hawt. The concept of a female who can cook and fight is such a turn on for me. If only she were real V_____V

Hi, my name is Klein Alternative. I'm 24 19, single and looking for a girlfriend.

Does that count as an introduction? xD

Who is your favourite character?
I don't really have a favourite character from the show. I love Kirito's aspiration for wanting to fight with people despite being a solo player, and I also like Asuna's just being embarassed over the smallest things like sleeping. I really do love the theme song for the anime, so I'm going to call that my favourite character for now.

Squirrel September 8th, 2012 3:54 PM

Okay so does anyone find it strange how quickly Asuna went from this:

http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/swordartonline/images/f/ff/Asuna_slaps_Kirito.png

to this:

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ma1zwbGQXN1ru0imko1_500.gif?

I knew Kirito was skilled but I never knew he was that good!

Yeah, I noticed that also since they investigated together in episode 5 (I think) Asuna has been appearing in every episode after that and i think they will get married in the next episode. But I still think Kirito is much stronger than Heatcliff... :)

Olli September 9th, 2012 2:39 AM

I think that it's most likely that Asuna started out developing feelings for Kirito back in the second episode when they first worked together, but was confused on how to approach him in the later episodes, and just started out rough. It was pretty clear that she liked him a lot just a few episodes back when she was acting that way.

With the reviews of the latest episode, I was actually kind of disappointed. I mean the proposal and all was great, however I didn't feel like much actually happened in the episode, and I was surprised when it suddenly ended. Not saying it wasn't a good episode, I just expected more to happen :p

Yeah, I know what you mean and they could have made the duel between Heatcliff and Kirito longer rather than just a few minutes... :(

And wow Kirito killed Asuna's escort (Don't know the name) so that means he has an orange thingy in his head now?

And woah, he's level 96! xD

I agree completely! I really wish they'd had a full-on battle rather than one hit wins :x If Heathcliff hadn't just hidden behind his shield Kirito would've won easily :( I'm glad he's using his dual wielding skill in public now though, he's so awesome with it <3

So important question; does Kirito look better in black or white? ;D

I like him better in Black, just not used to his White Outfit yet... :/

And now that he's wearing a white outfit should he be called the White Swordsman? xD

TwilightBlade September 15th, 2012 8:09 AM

Welcome, folks! As for my favorite character... Oh gosh, it's so hard to decide. D; I love Asuna's complexity but Kirito, just by being a nice guy wearing a badass longcoat and wielding a cool sword B), wins my heart. :P

He looks way better in black! Though, it could be our minds playing tricks on us. I mean, how would we react to Asuna wearing black?

Nick September 15th, 2012 8:36 AM

I'll join. I love this anime. Episode 10 was amazing.

My favorite character is Kirito because I'm basic and always end up having the main character as my favorite.

Yeah he definitely looks way more slick in black and if Asuna was in black, that would be game set and match right there.

That's a really good question o.o I've seen the preview for episode 11 and I think he was back to black, but I'm not certain... At any rate, I re-watched episode 10 last night due to boredom and for some reason it was soo much better the second time around :3 And I've decided, he's much cuter in white! I'm still so upset about him losing that duel though, if it hadn't have been one-touch then he would've won :( Plus it would've made for a much longer/cooler battle to watch.

TwilightBlade September 15th, 2012 10:13 AM

@Drakow: Saw that coming, hence trollface B)

@AlexOzzyCake: He better go back to black >;o I'm concerned about how no one in the real world figured out how to disable the nerve gear idk. It's been so many years lol.

Now, if only I was a nice guy . . .

I thought it was mentioned that if someone tried to disable or remove it or w.e microwaves would fry the brain. Perhaps there is a way to disable the device without causing the microwaves to be emitted but to implement that fix on a device that is already in use seems unlikely.

That's actually a really good point xD I wonder what happened to the guy who created it? Surely he must've been tortured or something by now to the extent where he'd have to turn off the game or disconnect them o.o If they just turned the nation's power off for a few minutes wouldn't that let everyone disconnect? :s I dunno, I agree that it's odd though xD

Overlord Drakow September 15th, 2012 12:32 PM

I'm pretty sure they can't just turn the power off because I remember the professor dude saying that the microwaves would be emitted if that happened.

Probably Kayaba, hid himself in the public for safety, and I think he'll be the final boss of the game... :)

... mind blown. That's an amazing idea, I didn't think he'd show up again at all but it would be very interesting! I bet he's actually in the game himself, that way he'd never be arrested or killed since he'd be connected to the Nerve Gear and if they disconnected him, he'd die and never be able to stop the game :o If this is true then I really hope he is a boss or something and he's just a really kickass player that they have to fight. Him solo'ing against Kirito would be a very epic showdown! Although I can't imagine him playing fairly without editing the game's mechanics or something like he did at the start >.>

So I have Blade's permission to start a new topic! I'm wondering if you guys would want to live in Aincrad? If the Nerve Gear was real and you knew that if you played this game you wouldn't be able to get out without completing it, would you play it? You can answer either ignoring the "dying in game = dying in reality" thing or including it, or maybe answer both! It'd be a lot of time lost from the real world, but the experiences in the game could be just as valuable as those in real life based on Kirito and Asuna's relationship. So would you play it?

CarefulWetPaint September 15th, 2012 7:29 PM

*gets yelled at, joins club*

Lets get started!
So the nerve gear will kill the person by frying their brain if it is removed or power to it is lost completely. It has a battery in it incase of power outtages that will keep it going for a while but if power isnt restored the person will die. Im pretty sure thats how it was explain but I cant really remember it was like 11 weeks ago now >.>

Kayaba probably has it set up so no matter what happens to him the game has to be completed how he wants it to be for them to be able to escape from it, failure to do so will result in failure for them to escape the game. Im pretty sure hes way to smart to get caught as well so hes probably got himself hidden away somewhere so no one can stop him. Also I think he will be the last boss as well.

About living in Aincrad, it would all depend on how my life in the real world was like. Personally I would prefer to get trapped in it without knowing that going into it would result in me getting trapped there until it is completed, at least I wouldnt really be able to regret my decision that way.

Yeah, maybe Kayaba can manipulate it, but doesn't that mean if he's in the game he's practically using a nerve gear as well so maybe he's trapped somewhere in the game...

But, I think for him to be the creator he should have made a custom nerve gear for his use only that can logout and manipulate things in Aincrad... :)

And about living in Aincrad...

I love my families and friends to risk my life going there... xD
But, if it doesn't include dying when you die, and the inability to logout in the game, definitely 100% sure that I'll love to live in Aincrad! :)

Anyways just finished watching episode 11 and I say it was great! Kirito and Asuna look good as a couple and I think Yui looks kinda like Idk, Kirito and Asuna's daughter, just look at the face Asuna's, Hair Kirito's, Eye Color, Kirito's, Eye shape Asuna's, and Cuteness Asuna's... xD

And I'm just wondering, Why is Netto Azure not here? xD

Miss Doronjo September 17th, 2012 2:40 PM

HI there~ After I've finally caught up with the series, I want to join as well if you don't mind. :3

Username: Miss Doronjo

Who is your favourite character?
It's a little tough to say - almost all the characters in the show are pretty cool in their own way. Like, as everyone said, Kirito, being the little badass that he is, but also showing a goofy, yet naive side to him sometimes; he's pretty awesome! Lisbeth is also pretty cool; she's pretty nice, and kind of quirky - she was cute in the episode where she created Dark Repulser for Kirito too. :3

I'm wondering if you guys would want to live in Aincrad?
I dunno, it depends. There's a lot of things in Aincrad that you can't do in real life, like marrying young, being a young age like 15 where you can live alone, etc. That and the obvious monster busting. (And cooking is a cinch when mastered ^^)

Buuuut it's way more dangerous in Aincrad where if you die there, you'd die in real life, and there are more chances that you can die outside the rural places, which there's a greater chance that you'd die at a young age. @[email protected] Plus at the same time, there are things you can do at the real world that you can't do in Aincrad. So, for me, It's sort of fifty-fifty.

Anyway, away from that, I watched episode 11:

Spoiler:
it was pretty heart warming! I love Kirito and Asuna's new house~ It does look peaceful and quiet~ Yui is also pretty cute too - I hope she can stay; those three look really happy together, like a family. ^^

TwilightBlade September 17th, 2012 3:26 PM

@Tsuitc: Awesome, you're a SAO fanatic now. Watch them all and catch up! :D

@tajaros and AlexOzzyCake: Oh my lord that sounds amazing. :O If he's the final boss, he probably has 9999 HP and well ldldfdfg this story should have a happy ending. :(

@CWP: True, but if by 2020 they could design this thing, there could~ be a way to hack it. SAO caught the media's attention. Just wondering what's going on in the real world. i am a boring person

@Miss Doronjo: I LOVE YOUR LISBETH SIG. I'm pretty much right with you there on my response to the topic.

I'm wondering if you guys would want to live in Aincrad?
I wouldn't play it if I knew that I couldn't log out until I beat it. I can't beat a video game in one sitting several years. The odds are against me in many ways. It requires way too much time of my life, even if virtual lives are fun and convenient. That cooking! D;

Episode 11...
Spoiler:
Yui is creepy cute. I love how she called them mama and papa. <3 I think she's a glitch or something, lol.

Miss Doronjo September 17th, 2012 9:06 PM

Mmm, actually, I think cooking in Aincrad will be far less stressful, but albeit... a bit boring imo, because you'd have to spend the majority of your time reading recipes more than cooking. When it -is- time to cook, it'll only take a few seconds. I dunno, I guess I'm one of those people who tend to enjoy preparing a meal more than actually eating it. ;-;

Spoiler:
huh, a glitch... that would be interesting. :3 perhaps she's also a hidden code that unlocks a certain level of the game?

CarefulWetPaint September 18th, 2012 2:08 PM

Is anyone else wondering why she seems to be the only glitch after 2 years? Don't you think that there should have been a few more glitches popping up other then just one?
Its such a huge game it must have been hard to make sure nothing was messing up..

Yeah, but I think the majority of glitches were fixed prior to the beta testing of the game already. Or maybe they were fixed during the span of the last two years (which was off-screen I guess?) But yeah, it'd be kind of hard to maintain one, huge game without, I dunno, some sort of 'clean up' program.. or something. So maybe there are still some glitches out there.

Netto Azure September 18th, 2012 4:59 PM

I never go to OC so I didn't see this. Otherwise I'd have made this months ago. Didn't think there was demand for pne lol.

Fave characters: That aside I try to be a little unique with my fave characters so my current ones are Recon and Sinon if u guys got past the SAO arc.

Live in Aincrad?: Nah I like having both RL and Net life. I'll wait for ALO instead :3

Kayaba theory: Hehehehehe ;D

Glitches: There's an advanced maintainance program called Cardinal that fixes glitches and regulates mob spawns to prevent exploits. The game is fair in that way.

The Shiny Umbreon in the Corner September 19th, 2012 5:12 PM

Okay so I'm officially caught up *cheers*
Spoiler:
I can't believe Kuradeel was in Laughing Coffin but I'm glad he's dead! :D
I'm really worried about Yuri because she might get in their way when Kirito and Asuna are clearing Floors but they are on a break so idk.
I was really sad when Sachi died :/.

I'm wondering if you guys would want to live in Aincrad?
Sure why not but I would want to have the freedom to log out and live my normal life and it's scary how Kirito has had a few near death moments :/ so Yes if I could log out. No if I had to stay until I died or beat the game which probably wouldn't happen with me playing lol

I don't think she's a glitch, I think she's a ghost or something designed to lure them in and earn their trust then attack them when they don't expect it; something like that. The whole possession-esque thing that happened at the end of the last episode was scary though! When she suddenly jerks her head round and srgjhdslghdsflg *cries* That does kind of make me doubt that she's meant to be in the game but... I dunno. Considering Asuna saw a ghost like Kirito was describing and the forest is supposed to be full of ghosts like that, I really wouldn't be surprised if she was just a ghost and she's playing along or something.

Go read the Light Novels from Baka-Tsuki. It's way more fun than reading summary spoilers.

Still to answer your question...
Spoiler:

Yes Kayaba is dead. He killed himself by using the NerveGear to create a copy of his Fluctlight (aka his soul) which, due to the NerveGear being a breakthrough tech required that his brain be also microwaved to death with only a 1 out of a 1000 chance of being successful. Which we find out at the end of ALO was successful.

Also rereading GGO/Phantom Bullet. Sinon is such a BAMF <3 Here have some awesome fanart.

I wonder how ghosts came to be in the virtual world. Well... they're ghosts with unearthly powers, buuuut... it seems weird to me. Does it mean that ghosts can pass through between the real and virtual world at will?

I'm honestly thinking something happened when Kirito and Asuna got married, and they had a kid together. Maybe that's why she had the reasoning to called them her parents. If you think about it, she's got Kirito's black hair and Asuna's brown eyes...

Hey, episode 12 is up~ My thoughts in the spoiler:

Spoiler:

It was really sad. ;w; I wanted Yui to be there with Kirito and Asuna for a really long time, but... I guess it wasn't meant to be. Though, I guess it was kind of speculated that she was some type of program or code, hinting at the opening theme, but, I didn't expect this. Over all, it's a pretty heartwarming episode. <3

Haha, I'm no really sure If I'm gonna read it or not, but maybe I'm gonna start with ALO and just wait for the SAO episodes... :)

Just watched Episode 12
Spoiler:
So YUI is a program?, how could they even restore it back in the real world? xD
The Boss in the Dungeon was super strong and YUI beated the hell out of him... xD

I was going to recommend that now that Yui has been introduced properly.

As for the episode. I almost cried. ;;

Hi everyone! Now that I'm hopelessly addicted to this show, I thought I would try to join the fun over here. :D

Would you want to live in Aincrad?
Hmm, tough question. I would have to say yes however. The way I see it, Aincrad is not much different from the real world. People get so worked up about when your character dies you die. How is that different from the world we live in now? We don't get a second chance anyway. The only difference being, in Aincrad you have a lot more freedom. In my opinion of course.

Granted, we don't have to fight for our lives on a daily basis. :\

Just to answer the previous question as to my favorite character. I really liked the very minor character of Keita. I also adored Sachi.
Spoiler:
Don't read to avoid early spoilers.
Spoiler:
Curse being the expense of setting the emotional thematics of the series. :(

As to the latest episode (12): I'm not afraid to admit to my waterworks... >.>

If you mean the game thinging.... yeah. Looks cool, the concept of you having superpowers is really appealing too :)
But I wouldn't want to be stuck. If you could actually get out, like expected, then it would have been cool. But if you can't, I would not want to ever be in it. Unless you get out automatically if u die, like in inception :)

EDIT: I wouldn't want to live there. I mean, the concept of a nerve-gear, and of VR mmo is cool, but living there would creep me out. Especially the fact that I would die if i died in game. Also, if it had worked the way it should, I might have gotten an something like a multiple-personality disorder :/

new episode is out :) I got it today, gonna see it and twelve today and finally be up-to-date.

You guys seen it yet? All of the comments keep saying that its a cliffhanger :/.

Episode 13 is pretty good, yes it does end on a cliffhanger. ;)

I know... the episodes always have such emotional twists that i dont even know what to think sometimes.

Ep 14
Spoiler:
I love the way they go to *Heaven* for the last few min of the episode, it really adds to the emotional level and makes you think that it really is going to end and that they did actually die. And i am sure that everyone is asking the question. "what is going to happen now?" Well i am not sure but i do hope that they don't do anything bad to it or change it horribly, i have seen amazing shows turn bad because of some change that nobody expected like this.

EDIT: I noticed that in the trailer for the next part of SAO that it shows a dead SAO player in a casket with their nervgear still on. Which means that the story is most likely continuing with kirito and asuna. I think it would be upseting if they changed the main characters... Kirito and Asuna are my favorite anime characters of all time.

FrostPheonix October 7th, 2012 2:50 AM

omg, I hate how they are ending the episodes now. First the last ep with the cliffhanger, and now... this. Anyways, is it going to be 25 eps after all?

And I heard they'll go ahead with ALO next... dunno.

Jorah October 7th, 2012 4:28 PM

Wow, this anime moves at a super fast pace! But I love it! I love how you're never quite sure how the story is going to turn out. I enjoy Kirito so much, although I don't watch millions of animes, he does seem rather different from the stereotypical protagonist of a shounen anime; he'd much rather work by himself, renegade tendencies, actually gets the girl. I do actually find the romance in this anime so cute.

Ep 14

Spoiler:
I'm not sure how they're going to continue this! Do you think the rest of it is going to be them trying to track Kayaba down? But wait, Kirito has to find Asuna first :)

Gawd things are getting tence

@Ralaila- I agree with you i probably wouldnt keep watching it if they got rid of kirito and asuna, that would be horrible! D:

I have 4 conclusion and/ or questions
1)Apparently Asuna is brain dead or dead
2)They went back into another Virtual Reality game (I wouldn't after the SAO fiasco :( )
3)This is more of a traditional MMORPG where there as class (elves, etc)
4)Yui is back? O.o and she has wings.

Q: Would you want to live in Aincrad?
A: Umm, this is a circumstantial situation. I would love to live there but if I can't logout that is pretty horrible. But if I'm already trapped in Aincrad, I would probably settle down and not risk dying on the higher levels. Asuna mentions that all players' real bodies must be currently being treated on hospitals and their condition can not be kept indefinitely, thus living in the game won't last forever.

tajaros October 10th, 2012 3:59 AM

Yeah Kirito is gonna find Asuna but.

She's trapped in ALO... :(

FrostPheonix October 13th, 2012 9:23 AM

Spoiler:
All I saw were two people in a rocking chair, probs kirito and asuna, and a i skipped at 10 minutes and its the same scene. I dunno. Can't wait for subbed.

I am honestly wondering how they'll continue. Will it stay awesome or will the epicness go down now? The awesomeness of the series that is? Anticipation is killing me.

Yes, because living a life of excitement would be rather enjoyable. As you may have seen in the anime, many were able to adapt to the new lifestyle, though I'd prefer to be able to come and go as i please, It still would be an interesting change.

The Game has been cleared yay! But, not yay for the other 300 players who got trapped in ALO... :(

The Episode was really touching and how Kirito reacted about Asuna's fiance and her cousin got a crush on him? lmao :P

Jalsy October 13th, 2012 2:36 PM

^I kinda like the fact how Kirito's feelings for Asuna is quite strong. Seeing him down for not having Asuna awaken in the real world. It was touching yet sad though specially the first scene. I'm looking forward for more Asuna and Kirito's interaction in ALO. Hoping something will..

Spoiler:
No offense but I kinda feel awkward about his cousin's feelings for him. I mean, I like her character..she seems nice..but this is just me though.she kinda reminds me of YuiXD

Alternative October 14th, 2012 5:34 AM

Wow I haven't been here for a while, though I gotta make sure I don't open spoilers, I haven't seen the past two episodes.

Would you like to live in Aincrad?
I think it would be a nice place to live, only if it were something like a utopia where it doesn't end or anything like that, but you know, you're not bedridden in a hospital or anything like that. If it were something like Floor 22 (Kirito's and Asuna's honeymoon) it would be very endearing and nice, but I couldn't imagine living somewhere huge like a city or anything. I love the fact that it's so versatile, how you could live in a desert if you wanted to, or a nice place, perfect for a honeymoon or the big city or anything.

Here's something moreso extending on that question on if you were living in Aincrad. We've seen many people with different occupations: Blacksmiths, Chefs, Merchants and so on. If you were to live in Aincrad, what occupation would you take?

This is all assuming you won't be fighting on the front lines with the big dogs or anything, but decided to settle down and help the people of Aincrad.

I would, and I'll probably end up being a solo player roaming around the land instead of being an NPC. The first floor is where I'll probably live, I like the scenery and it's child friendly as well. I prefer bigger cities than small towns. I love the huge spaces.

Regarding episode 15:
Spoiler:
ikr! I just want to punch her fiance in the face. He's such a perverted maniac!

Claire* October 14th, 2012 10:49 AM

I loved this past episode. (15)

Spoiler:
I really felt like the show put on its brakes and let us breathe for a second. It had been so fast paced up until this point that it almost felt rushed in a few episodes.

Also, Asuna's fiance needs to meet a very terrible demise. The thought of being used that way while in a comma, it just gave me goosebumps. So gross.

The cousin's feeling were a bit odd, but I guess I don't have a major issue with it.

FrostPheonix October 16th, 2012 9:12 AM

Episode 15. Out finally.

Name: SNOR(es)LAX
Q: Would you want to live in Aincrad?
A: Yes, if there isn't a death game in Aincrad, I would love to live there, otherwise no.

This was my thoughts about SAO episodes 14 and 15 where I posted on the Sword Art Online thread over at the Japanese Entertainment sub-forum but I thought I would post it here.

My feelings about episode 14 and 15.
Spoiler:
Every episode was really very nice and though I would love to have episode 14 to be a bit longer (especially the fight against that skeleton monster and Healthcliff) I think that that episode was a little weird 'cos Asuna went against the paralysed effect to save Kirito despite it being told as unrecoverable without a potion/orwhateveryoucallthat. I guess its the "power of love" as many shows have and it applies into the gameworld as well.

episode 15
Spoiler:
I really love such episodes in an anime where they focus on the character relationship building and brings the story closer to characters instead of a lot of fighting. I feel that that guy who is going to get engaged to Asuna's a big jerk. All those smelling of her hand and hair is really pissing me off as it is pissing off Kirito. Nevertheless, really looking forward to ALO!

Episode 16:
Spoiler:

It's finally ALO! yay! ^_^
What?! Asuna is in a Birdcage... xD Well at least Yui is back. At least Kirito can now fly but, he can do some work on his landings... xD
Kirito said that he was not anymore a beater but a cheater. Cause he has his stats&skills from SAO now he just looks to awesome... xD Can't wait for the next episode.

Seki October 20th, 2012 4:29 PM

Episode 16
Spoiler:
ALO!!! Not used to the fairy ears though... They look weird to me, but I guess, I will get used to it.
I LOL'd at the part where he said, "I am no longer a beater, I am just a Cheater." He has practically high levels for every skill, just hope that its usable in ALO, otherwise it might be a waste of space. But after seeing that fight against those Red Colour people (whatever they are called), I guess its still usable, especially, Reactions and Strength, where he held the sword with his hands, 1 handed Sword Skills and that high agility, where he finished the guy in like a split second.
The flying battles where Sugu (or Leafa) fights in reminds me of Gundam. Cos they regulary aim for the the stomach, which is the Gundam's cockpit, for the kill.

CarefulWetPaint October 20th, 2012 4:36 PM

Guys the club thread isn't for episode discussion thats what the JE thread is for, the club thread is for discussion about the world that SAO is in. On that matter I propose a new topic.

How far would you go to protect someone that you meet in the video game, whether it be a person you fall in love with in the game or a really good friend you make in the game? Would you treat is as real life and do everything possible or would you just think its just a game?

TwilightBlade October 20th, 2012 6:53 PM

Hmm? I don't find much wrong with discussing the episode a bit We will have plenty of time to discuss topics when the anime ends yes hold back your tears wait too late ;__;

I condensed your topic so it fit in the CSS. I was just talking about this today with Olli and Tsuitc. xD;

How far would you go to protect someone that you met in a virtual world, whether it be a good friend or a love interest?
If I was in Kirito's position (i.e. awesomely good at SAO), then yes, I'd do my best to save my friend or crush. I would just find it natural to smash anyone who threatens those precious to me. If I was like, level 10 most of the time, then nope, plz don't hurt me. ):< Does that make sense?

Olli October 21st, 2012 2:25 PM

Oops, seems I've been a bit inactive D:

How far would you go to protect someone that you met in a virtual world, whether it be a good friend or a love interest?

Well when it comes to it all, virtual worlds would kinda be close to the real world in the sense that we can all see each other and talk to each other, and basically interact with each other in any way we would be able to in the real world, so whether I met the person in the virtual world wouldn't really matter, since it would really be the same kind of relationship as you would be able to have in the real world. Now, when it comes to how far I'd go to protect them, it depends on whether I'd be able to die or not. If it was the world in ALfheim, then I'd probably battle till I die for any of my friends, since the consequences for dying in that world are less significant than in Aincrad. Unless I had a really valuable item that I'd risk losing if I died, then hell nah, I'd sissy out and leave my friends to die B)

If it was a world like Aincrad, where I'd lose my life in the real world if I died in there too, then it gets bit more complicated. It's less likely that I'd risk my life for anyone anymore, since the cost is much higher here, and it would only really be something I'd do if they were very close friends of mine, however I would still do everything I could to help, without it coming to risking my life. At least I imagine I'd be so heroic, however I've only ever tried such things out with World of Warcraft, so I can't really say much :p

FrostPheonix October 31st, 2012 1:30 AM

ep 17 is out :) I was surprised by the ending, hadn't expected it.

How far would you go to protect someone that you met in a virtual world, whether it be a good friend or a love interest?
If I/they would die as they would in Aincrad, to great lengths. If not, almost not at all probably because I could just laugh it off, and it would really be just a game. Similar to what I do in LoL :)

Joining! Whee~

Answer current topic:
How far would you go to protect someone that you met in a virtual world, whether it be a good friend or a love interest?
It really depends on the situation. If it were an online game like ALO, then I'd treat it regardless of whether I met that person in a virtual world or not, because I really do cherish good friends that I make especially because it's pretty rare for me to even truly consider a person as a good friend. So in that situation, I'll protect them to the extent of my ability, especially if they can only rely on my protection. I guess I'm just like that, and I'd definitely feel that way when the situation rises.

However, something as disturbing as the SAO world might make me think otherwise. The stakes are higher, and when it considers life and death, there really isn't a gray area in between. You either live or die. And in that case, it would be very unlikely for me to risk my life for someone. I might say I don't care if I met them online or not, but I would still take into account how much I really know and care about that person.

Anyway, Episode 21! What did you guys think about it?

episode 21 spoilers
Spoiler:
I really don't know what to feel about the love triangle drama. But I do like Suguha a lot! And I loved Asuna back in Aincrad, and I'm glad that she hasn't lost her spunk with her recent jailbreak. The scene with Asuna and the slug scientists really creeped me out though. Can't wait to see what happens to her (or to Kirito's mad attempt to fly up to her detected location) in the next episode. Hopefully they'll no longer neglect her or Kirito's supposed sense of urgency to save her like they did in Episode 19.

FrostPheonix November 27th, 2012 1:18 PM

Whoops, I just remembered :D. I think most people forgot about the club.....
Luckily we were saved from extinction by you though :).

Ep 21!
Spoiler:
I personally found it disturbing. Omg, it was obvious what they were hinting at when the tentacle guys attacked... if you don't know, you're better off and don't bother figure it out. But, there were two other things that bothered me about them:

1. Why were they monsters? They're scientists, come on, why be a monster when you can be human? For the looks? Or because being a blob with tentacles is so convenient? And I don't think they're actually monsters and from Cardinal's processor, they must be smart enough to research and you'd need to be human for that. I also think that Yui is an exception; plus it is mentioned that ALO's cardinal version is older than SAO's and therefore not as good, but still pretty darn good.

2. Why were pain receptors on? Which idiot would leave the option for pain on if you didn't need to? It is default set to no pain, Klein didn't have any in ep 1, and he didn't even know about that feature. So convenient. But I suppose Asuna had to be able to do something.

And I feel sorry for the cousin/sister (im confused as to what she is: cousin, sister or family friend?) but seriously, its a bit messed up. I think. Poor girl though. I genuinely feel sorry for her, even if she is a cartoon character.

Spoiler:
Eps until now are unravelling... the quality of episodes sucks now really. SAO went downhill... how come he just was like 'Oh its ok sugu we can be friends again and when asuna comes back i might fall for you' he might as well have said that...

well, i might add some more later, but i seriously hope more people actually talk here. its such an awesome series.
EDIT: Why wont anyone say anything...

TwilightBlade December 19th, 2012 10:04 PM

Olli97: The death card is an important factor in deciding if we should protect others or not. I forgot to really think about it; I've moved on from Aincrad, haha! In that event... I would prefer over-leveling my character and better ensuring myself that I could handle a life or death situation / rescue mission. I wish that someone would overlevel their character and strive to protect me, too. I really did like how Asuna could protect Kirito as well as he could protect her. I'm not fond of damsels in distress, so hooray there. :P

Cid: Welcome to the club and thankies! I appreciate how you and Olli highly value relationships with online friends. ;D Maybe that all works out in the end, since the players had to assume from then on, the virtual game is their reality. The people they meet there are all they have, and they should cherish that for the time being. However, the anonymity still exists. Not everyone is going to behave like they would in real life. Some people can deceive or betray you because they can easily get away with it. People can also change as they experience the pressures of the online world, such as Grimlock did. Kinda scary, I can't even stand in the same room with some people! Yeahhh I'll just fly solo huh. B)

FrostPheonix: Oh yes, I laugh off my deaths in video games. They're mostly my fault anyways. D:

Episode 21, they were definitely hinting at it and nailed it on the head in episode 24. It made me uncomfortable indeed. :(
Spoiler:
Not sure why the scientists were blobs besides adding to the nightmare fuel.

You mean the pain scale? I found that to be expected since the goal was to completely mind control the players but that plan was terminated, lol.

Suguha is his cousin. When they were little, Kirito was referred to as the brother for sake of ease. Kirito's parents were in a terrible traffic accident.

I can't say that I've ever felt deeply sorry for Sugu... I understand that she terribly missed her brother, but something about Kirito neglecting her caused her to fall in love with someone online? Uhh... I wouldn't exactly fall in love with an online player as a means of coping. I wouldn't even go near the games if I was on the verge of losing my brother to them in the first place. I didn't really follow along with the love triangle drama since I wanted the show to focus on Kirito and Asuna. ;)

Episode 24, loved it. Hmm, I was expecting them to kiss when they reunited. I don't think the show is decreasing in quality. I think it's come to a solid end and I can't wait to see episode 25. It'll probably wrap it all up with Kirito spending time with Asuna (but when will he run into Lisbeth lol).

Here's a topic related to the belief of the end game prize being eternal flight:
How would you react if you reached the end of a game/quest and you did not receive the reward you anticipated?

Satoshi Ookami December 20th, 2012 12:00 AM

I would like to join =) SAO is one of the great series of this year =)

How would you react if you reached the end of a game/quest and you did not receive the reward you anticipated?
If it were at the beginning I would probably be very furious and if it was game with normal GMs (not SAO-like xD), I would contact them and explain the situation.
But if I had Kirito's demi-god stats, I would probably not mind as I would already have every item I need.

Of course I'll be very furious haha... xD And I will try to know what's wrong and why I didn't get the reward...

Anyways, it can't be right SAO is finished... :( Nooooooooooooo......

I hope they make GGO an anime. :3

A: Alt + F4, anyone would do that.

Am I the only one who feels that the ALO arc sucked?

No, you are not =)
Actually... it's you and the 98% of otaku population =D

SAO may be over, but there's still stuff to discuss, right? Right?!

I agree that ALfheim Online really sucked. It was different from SAO, they were no longer fighting for their life, which added a lot to how I felt about the situations they were in, very few interesting things actually happened in there, the worst romantic subplot ever, and there was a serious lack of Asuna. Those episodes were, in my honest opinion, not really worth it.

How would you react if you reached the end of a game/quest and you did not receive the reward you anticipated?

That depends on if the reward I anticipated was anything exciting at all. The thing about games are usually not what's waiting at the end, but what we experience on our way to the end. If I had loads of fun catching all 150 Pokemon, but instead of getting a super rare Pikablu I simply got a diploma saying congratulations, it wouldn't really matter to me since I had fun, if I played through a super tedious game just to get the reward at the end, and it was nothing like what I'd expected, then yes, I'd throw the game in the fireplace and never think of it again.

I'm no sure if i am correct on this but isnt there going to be another season because there was a lot more in the manga? Just something to think about. And i really liked ALF online but not nearly as much as i liked SAO. SAO was just so much better because there was actual risk involved, Dont get me wrong i still enjoyed watching the series but it didnt start getting really heated until very end. And tbh i really disliked kiritos avatar in ALF, his SAO avatar was much better.

Q: How far would you go to protect someone that you met in a virtual world, whether it be a good friend or a love interest?
A: Is it a matter of life and death? If it's just an online game, I'd "risk my life" to save a friend - on the edge of dying, if not getting killed.
But, if it's like SAO, and death is involved... I'd have to consider. I mean, It's really risky- with everything that's possible inside of a video game. I'd give it a try, but I might not exactly go on and get myself killed for the person. I mean, getting us both killed is not worth it. I'm sure that person wouldn't want us both to die, either.

On the subject of ALF, though it wasn't as risky - as you couldn't die in real life - it was on a time limit, kinda. The more time Kirito spent, the closer it would get to the day that creepy guy married Asuna. And if that happened- I think Kirito would go into a pretty deep depression.
And personally, I think another season is coming. There is much more in the manga (And I think it's still going ^^), and with the impressive sales of the Light Novels, it seems like a possibility!

I have been lurking in this thread for far too long now, but I shall now join this wonderful club!
Thank you so much Blade for creating this fantastic club ^_^
Now onto all the topics I've missed and the current:

Who is your favorite character?
My favourite would be Kirito, he and I are similar in ways and we do have roughly the same tastes when it comes to clothing attire and picking a character in a mmo. I of course also like Asuna, she's bad ass.

I'm wondering if you guys would want to live in Aincrad?
It would be a somewhat of a dream come true lol. I would live in Aincrad, even if it would mean living in a world where death could happen at any given moment.

How would you react if you reached the end of a game/quest and you did not receive the reward you anticipated?
I wouldn't really mind, but I would ponder about it for a while and just let it go eventually. I'm more into the experience and adventure aspect of a game, rather than getting rewarded with something, especially something that I'd have no use for whatsoever.

How far would you go to protect someone that you met in a virtual world, whether it be a good friend or a love interest?
Depending on how they would make me feel, then I'd go ALL OUT to protect them, no matter what. They would be my cause of living and my death would be promised to them.

Let's be exact here. Manga covers only Aincrad, so not even Sister Affection Online is covered by manga ;)
The thing you meant is most likely Light Novel =)
