Lugia or Ho-Oh?
The old thread was dead, so time for a remake.
This one's easy, do you like the sea-dwelling Psychic/Flying Lugia or the sky guardian Fire/Flying Ho-Oh? Vote in the poll and give us reasons! |
Right now I'm liking Lugia much more than Ho-oh. Although I've supported Ho-oh countlessly, Lugia's design has really grown on me, to the point now that I prefer it over Ho-oh. In HGSS, Lugia looked amazing flying behind you! It's got a great design with a intricate stroyline behind it. However, the only think that made me dislike about it was the fact that it' typing is Psychic & Water, not Water & Flying.
Lugia.
Lugia was the reason why my first game was Silver and from that moment, I've always prefered Lugia to Ho-Oh. And Lugia looks much better as HG/SS OW =D |
Ho-Oh don't know why...Seems More Powerful to me
Even though I bought SoulSilver, honestly I prefer Ho-Oh a little bit more. Sky appeals to me more than sea, and Ho-Oh has some sort of traditional, ancient look to it that makes me really love it.
Pokemon Silver was my first game I got when the second generation came out pulse Lugia got its own movie. Don't get me wrong though I like Ho-oh as well just not as much as Lugia.
I like both of them for different reasons, but Lugia will always hold a special place in my heart after an epic Lugia vs. Lugia battle with my cousin back on Pokemon Gold. It ended up going so long that one of our Game Boy's batteries died, so I'll always prefer Lugia out of the two.
Both are pretty boss, but I love Fire-type Pokémon, so it's Ho-Oh for me!
Ho-Oh will ALWAYS be the best to me. I had both Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Heart Gold, and I liked Ho-Oh very much. I never liked Lugia at all, because of a HORRIBLE design, a HORRIBLE Type Combination, and it is a Defender not an Attacker. In Generation IV, Lugia became even more of a nuisance, because it's Battle Sprite Front is just Terrible. Plus Fire-Types are one of my Favourite Pokemon Types.
I played SoulSilver, so I go with Lugia.
Not to mention it's a Psychic and it has association with Water, which are two of my favorite types. It's definitely my fave Johto Legendary. |
I have SS but don't have HG so Lugia! And mainly because I captured him first before Ho-Oh and I love water types even though Lugia isn't the fact that it was seen in anime swimming and stuff I consider it a water types. I just love the design to!
Ho-oh for me. I like its battle theme better than Lugia's and it has good offensive stats.
Lugia just because it has a cool type.
I prefer Lugia, mainly because Ho-oh looks like a mess of colours to me, but I love Lugias design as well, especially its shiny. But, I think Ho-oh is starting to grow on me. I am starting to like it's detailed design more and i'm starting to think that Lugia's design is a bit boring. Typewise, I prefer Ho-oh's typing and moves, but Lugia still gets my vote. :)
Lugia. I'm not sure why, I think it's because of The Power of One. It's odd though, 'cause I do love Fire-types.
Lugia FTW ! SS mascot, graceful, strong ... It's always been my fav since Silver version, I mean, I always prefered it over Ho-Oh, which is still a Pokémon I love anyway.
They're both kinda overrated but I'd have to choose Lugia over Ho-Oh. One, Lugia has a bigger move pool and 2 Lugia's design looks a lot cooler.
Is it just me or did you guy's have a problem solving Ho-Oh's puzzle in the Ruin of Alph in Silver the first time you tried. It took me so long to figure it out cuz I never did it before but now can do it with no problems. |
Lugia! Tbh I always thought Lugia was either Flying/Dragon or Water/Dragon when I first saw it and even after I found out it wasn't it was still difficult to believe, but I love it nonetheless. It's very cute for a legendary Pokémon and it's a complete badass in battle whereas Ho-Oh seems mainly just for show imo. Moltres will always be the Fire bird legendary in my opinion since raining down firey meteors from the sky seems much cooler than a flying rainbow bird! But yeah, I love Lugia so I'm going with her n.n
This is really difficult for me, I just love them both xD. But if I had to pick one I'd actually said the colourful Ho-oh. The design is colourful and elegant, Ho-oh resembles this huge bird. And since birds are some of my favourite creatures, why not love Ho-oh xD? Honestly, it's a great legendary in my opinion. And since I played HG first, I kinda grew on Ho-oh before encountering Lugia.
Lugia is pretty awesome too, but I prefer Ho-oh. |
Ho-oh
-It was one of the first Pokemon Ash saw and holds a lot of symbolism within that scene -In HG/SS it makes a lot more sense with the Kimono girls -It was born from the ashes of the burnt tower and also created the 3 legendary felines, Entei/Raikou/Suicune I still love Lugia and I have a lot of memories from it, but Ho-Oh just beats it in concept, design, and I feel overall usefulness in my opinion. |
Ho-oh. They're both pretty awesome, but I've always thought Lugia should've had a secondary Water typing or something, it just.. It doesn't make sense to me. I love both of their signature moves, and I love that they're both available in each game, I just prefer Ho-oh because its typing makes more sense, and as someone mentioned, it makes more sense with the Kimono Girls story (at least, to my knowledge. The fact that Ho-oh is actually in Ecruteak City seems to make a lot of sense). Otherwise they're both pretty great!
Ho-Oh.
Ho-Oh seemed to fit with the Ancient Japan Koto theme that HGSS had going for it. So I like Ho-Oh a little better. |
I think it's a case of "the grass is greener on the other side" for me. When I originally played Gold version, I was really jealous that my brother - who bought Silver - got to capture Lugia. This was probably because I preferred its design, as well as its placement in the upcoming second Pokemon movie. In contrast, Ho-oh looked ugly, had a boring movepool and weird name. Fast forward many years, and I get SoulSilver for the DS. Now, all of a sudden, I really like Ho-oh but can't get it until much later in the game. Lugia, on the other hand, feels dated and old, with a weird typing combination that makes no sense.
So, yeah. Moral of the tale: I'm ridiculously fickle! :D |
Lugia, for what (most) people would say is a pretty stupid reason, but when I first got on the internet the first friend I made loved Lugia, and ever since then the Pokemon held a special place in my heart.
Lugia, its so awesome. I like Ho-Oh also, but I like Lugia's design more.
While Ho-oh has his strong points, such as an epic design and even more epic battle music, I have to go with Lugia! A lot of my love is nostalgia, but I always adored its simplistic but powerful (and huggable!) design--his "invisible cheeseburger" hands definitely added fuel to my love-fire! And I just love Aeroblast to pieces! It's hands-down one of my favorite attacks.
Ho-Oh for life! I just love Sacred Fire! It's one of the few physical fire type moves, and as such is very useful in certain situations. Plus purple flames are really cool.
This isn't to say I only like him for his signature move. He's really cool design wise too. |
I've played Silver/Soul Silver so many times, so I really appreciate Ho-oh more, even if you can obtain it later in the game. And the design is pretty awesome. Not to mention he comes with a Sacred Ash. Lugia comes with squat.
Ho-oh, duh, it is the guardian of the sky, and the creator of the three beasts. Plus Fire + Flying = excellent type combination, and lets not forget the Sacred Ash item it drops. :) Ho-oh for the win!!!
Ho-oh all the way! I'm more offensively inclined in battle so I much rather have the offensive powerhouse that is Ho-oh than the great wall known as Lugia.
Lugia. It's funny I got both Gold and HeartGold but prefer Lugia over Ho-Oh. I really like both aloit though. I kind of grow on to Lugia though because of Pokemon 2000:The Power of One. And I have fond memories of cloning many Lugia with my friends as a little kid.
I like the wall that is Lugia. I preferred the design of him and there was just a 'cool' vibe coming from him. I like both of them, but Lugia pips it for me. |
I prefer Ho-oh due to it's design and it's based on a phoenix which are cool.
You can catch both in both games so its a choice in who you want have early
Lugia First- Soulsliver Ho-Oh First- Heartgold |
Lugia for me, just because I always thought it looked cooler.
I've always been a Lugia fan-girl. The dance and music before Lugia's appearance in SoulSilver sold me all over again. xD
(the movie also sealed the deal) |
Lugia, mainly due to personal bias. When it comes down to it, I honestly kinda prefer Ho-oh's design over Lugia, just because it's more colorful and resembles a bird more (B]), but it also pulls off a really terrifying facial expression, where, even though Lugia does too at times, it's less scary, and tend to look more desperate lol. But as I said, personal bias on Lugia, due to all my experiences with it from Silver. After seeing it kicking tail in a battle between my brother and a friend of his, I decided I wanted my own, and even with that, it wasn't like I hadn't tried looking for it. The place it was located was less notable than a huge freaking tower in a town, so I actually found Ho-oh before I got to Lugia, but once I finally found it in the Whirl Isles after searching for a long time, I was a) Very disappointed that it wasn't a Water type, and b) SUPER FREAKING EXCITED to finally get it. So I used it pretty much for the rest of my Silver versions life, but now it's long gone, borrowed out to a friend of mine who then lost it afterwards. :(
I voted Ho-Oh even though most people prefer Lugia.
My first game was Silver which was my cousins but my first proper game that belonged to me was Gold. And i prefer Ho-Oh in general anyway. |
Ho-oh for forever and always. Access to Regenerator, Sacred Fire being a better exclusive move, his design, his typing, everything. Plus I love how more mysterious and exclusive he is in the games compared to his counterpart (who is also awesome in my books but no where in comparison to my boo.) Ho-oh is probably my favorite legendary along with Virizion and Mewtwo. <3
I prefer Ho-oh, looks something more godlike and ancient, it's just awesome, a real LEGENDARY pokémon.
I like Ho-oh much better. Part of this might just be the fact that it was shown in the first episode of the anime, but also it's design seems better for a legendary pokemon than lugia's. Also, it seemed like Ho-oh had a sort of cult at the Tin Tower, which makes it seem even more awesome.
LUGIA. I simply love its design and it has always been more special to me than Ho-oh due to the fact that it starred in the pokemon movie I first watched when I was young. I always thought it was water & psychic type at first though, but flying & psychic is cool too. I just don't have a special connection to Ho-oh like I have with Lugia, so Lugia is definitely my choice. <3
Ho-Oh ftw, I always loved it ever since gold. I've also always found sacred fire to be infinitely superior to aeroblast.
I'm a bit stuck in this mess. I love the way Lugia looks over Ho-oh. However I like Ho-oh's moves and type over Lugia.
Lugia. Who could forget the Power of One! Oooh Lovely memories! I still haven't seen Ho-oh in a movie as the main character.
Ho-oh, because the design/sprite is amazing, and I think Ho-oh is very underrated, and I should think it needs more love.
Ho-oh, because the design/sprite is amazing, and I think Ho-oh is very underrated, and I think it needs more love. |
Ho-Oh is a quite a legendary right...No episodes or movies showing HO-OH battling...just an opening of the movie and mew who changed its form to HO-OH~~
Ho-Oh. The whole theme HGSS was trying to set up is more fitting with Ho-Oh in mind, and I just like it a lot more than Lugia in every way. I grew up playing Silver so I was a little frustrated with that in mind.
I like them both, don't get me wrong
But something about Lugia seems a little more likable to me. It feels like it's design portrays a certain set of characteristics I like more than Ho-Oh. He's also a bit more cute I think. |
Ho-Oh. I just find it to be more interesting than Lugia, which I have no problems with.
Lugia to me has a very boring design. Probably because of the lack of colors? And I really hate using Lugia in battle. The tankish Pokemon don't do much for me in-game.
I have to go with Ho-oh. Back in gen 3, Ho-oh was a little harder to get. (Lugia you could catch in XD, Ho-oh you had to do a lot of extra stuff in Colosseum.) I also don't think they have done a good job recently on Lugia's sprite. Lugia is pretty cool I especially hate the sprite on HG and SS.
I have chosen Ho-Oh, because I love it's gold color ;)
I like Lugia and Ho-Oh a lot. Ho-Oh is one of my favorite Pokemon, but Lugia is my number 1 favorite. So I choose Lugia! :D
I thought I had answered this thread-guess not.
I Prefer Ho-oh as it has a better shiny sprite, other than that I actually would use it in my party. |
I think Ho-oh is a symbol of some sorts but Lugia definitely looks better IMO :D
I usually prefer offense over defense but I'll go with Lugia more often than not in this situation. I like sits appearance and exclusive move better than Ho-oh's.
I honestly don't think I will ever change my mind because I love Lugia way more than Ho-oh ever since I was little. Besides Lugia can learn a lot of water type moves that can easily KO a Ho-oh, so I went with Lugia.
:t354:TG |
Ho-Oh has the better design; Lugia looks a little plain to me, even though I do like it. I just find that Ho-Oh looks better overall and has a more engaging story.
Growing up with XD instead of Colosseum, I'm gonna have to go with Lugia just basing it on the Nostalgia-Factor.
I have to go with Ho-oh. Gold was the first game I had, and I've played it countless times so Ho-oh has always been a part of my team. And it's sprite is gorgeous.
Lugia. No competition. It looks so magistic and I loved its role in pokemon 2000 or whatever that was called xD
Ho-oh just seems like a copy of moltress to me :\ Plus I caught luging with my first dusk ball ^^ |
I prefer Ho-OH cuz my first game was Pokemon Gold :P and I always prefer Fire types cuz these are quite awesome.... :D
Ho-Oh because its design is full of colors, it looks majestic when flying!
Would say Lugia for nostalgia, but i recently bought and played through Heartgold and i was impressed by Ho-oh having never before used one in 10+ years of playing pokemon
I like Ho-oh because of it's design as it's less plain than Lugia but Lugia has more of a backstory I think idk why xD
It's kind of a mix for me, hard to pick one. Lugia has been my companion since Silver, and SS as well, it's one of my favorites. I like the typing on this pokemon as well, but I might have originally liked this pokemon because it looked like a water type, one of my favorite types back then. I remember watching the anime and Lugia's few appearances. It always seemed so angry, and I remember yelling at the TV for Lugia to stop raging at the good people rather than the bad.
As for Ho-oh, I like Lugia's design and typing better, as Ho-oh's seems kind of messed up, but my vote goes to Ho-oh, simply because of its appearances in the anime, particularly the first. I remember watching that episode, and Ho-oh seemed really cool to me, flying over all gold and sparkly. So yeah, Ho-oh gets my vote for this. |
I've always had some sort of troubles on deciding which one is my favourite. They're not like the other pair of legendaries, which I can pick one easily and without a second thought.
I like both designs and maybe what it could disappoint me a bit it's the type combination of Lugia, but it's actually no problem, I still like it. Since I always like to answer what it's asked in threads like this, I will go with Ho-oh for one only reason: maybe the storyline fits a lot more with Ho-oh rather than with Lugia. It seems like they made Ho-oh first and thought everything about what its storyline could be, and then came Lugia and they made something up very quickly - because I don't know what you think but, it's really weird to see the Kimono girls in the deepest of an island summoning a monster of the sea (at least it sounds weirder than the Kimono girls in the top of a tower summoning a bird of the sky.) |
Lugia <3
It's so beautiful and aquatic and can fly at the same time. It's perfect for me, who likes water and air, and it also has a combo with it's psychic typing so it's it all the way in. Ho-oh is pretty too! |
I prefer ho-oh... because it's move set is more convenient than Lugia's... Besides.. I play heart gold...
I love polls <3
I like Lugia because I started out with Silver first, so I might be a bit bias :P But being a Psychic/Flying type that can learn Water attacks, it sure comes in handy if the two were going to battle it out :D |
I'd have to pick Lugia. Much better in my opinion. Ho-Oh is just a newer version of Moltres.

Although I love Lugia, but sometimes I honestly believe it should be Water/Flying, Ho-oh just makes more sense to me and I love its design much more, so Ho-oh was always my favourite too <3. |
I would have to say Ho-Oh is my fav of the 2. even though I only have Soul Silver and a working copy of Silver ._.
I think Ho-Oh has a better design but I love Lugia. Probably the main reason I watched Pokemon 2000 about a million of times as a kid.
ho oh is lame you cant really do much with him :/ so i prefer lugia
Lugia. THE coolest legend of any Pokemon movie aside from Mewtwo.
In terms of design and battles, Lugia is more superior in my opinion. Ho-Oh is pretty much a useless Pokemon when you're battling competitively due to Stealth Rock removing half of it's HP as soon as it comes into the battle. Lugia's the best Defensive Pokemon in the game. No attack can 1-Hit KO it. As for Ho-Oh, 1 Stone Edge from the right Pokemon(even if Ho-Oh is at full health) can KO it.
Lugia was part of the reason why I chose to play Soul Silver, I still remember the Pokemon movie featuring Lugia that I saw when I was a kid.I wish they'd make a movie about Ho-oh though.
Lugia, because I played Silver and it was my favorite legendary because it was the easiest to catch.
I was always a huuuuge Lugia fan girl, admittedly I do still love that pokemon to bits!
But I personally had a lot emotionally invested into the pokemon games when I was in a relationship with someone. Lame, I know. So I ended up putting my pokemon games away for a year because it just reminded me of them... So finally I dug them out again and instead of playing my SS game I decided to open and play the HG I had laying there. I clearly wasn't going to give it to my ex and my SS still stung... I'm really glad I did? It just helped re-open the world of pokemon to me and I feel like Ho-Oh the phoenix pokemon really helped me! Now I'm kind of a big Ho-Oh fan! I even have been collecting plushies of the pretty birdy. |
Ho-oh is superior in my opinion. I have used it in my Ubers Team for a long time. Sacred Fire also looked majestic to me. Too bad it has 4x weakness to Stealth Rock.
Lugia is okay but I was never a big fan of stall. |
lugia for sure. I have Pokemon: 2000 and i loooooovvvveeeee it. and from watching my friends battle i say lugia is a lot bulkier and can still deal as much damage as ho oh if used right.. so its lugia for me (i was never into competitive battling)
I've always liked Lugia ever since I watched the second Pokemon movie. I didn't even know what Ho-oh even was until a few years later when I got back into Pokemon. Plus I think Lugia has a more appealing design and I like Aeroblast more than Sacred Fire.
