I would start with a Miltank, but since I can't I choose Cyndaquil cause he looks the cutest :3

I would always pick Totodile because it is a water type Pokemon and I believe that Totodile is the cutest one of the three and has an awesome look once it becomes a Feraligatr. Totodile can learn Ice moves which is a weakness to Chikorita and Cyndaquil is self explanatory.

Cyndaquil of my first run, but unfortunately my cousin new game'd it. So I picked Totodile on my second run. I never picked Chikorita before!

Rain Dancer December 14th, 2012 4:27 AM

Cyndaquil.

To blame was Charizard's amazing legacy for indoctrinating us to believe that fire types would always reign supreme.

Seth Rollins December 14th, 2012 5:48 AM

Well, I choose Cyndaquil in both Crystal and Heart Gold. He's 3 stage, Typhlosion is my favourite Johto Pokemon and because I love fire types.

Serperion December 15th, 2012 2:57 AM

Totodile because at least then I could feel good about beating my rival since he had Meganium. I like Cyndaquil a lot but Since HG/SS Totodile got better with stuff like Ice Fang and Superpower

Master Xemnas January 2nd, 2013 12:03 PM

I choose Cyndaquil in Crystal Version , because he is the one of the strongest of the few fire pokemon available , and because i always choose fire type.

pikakitten January 2nd, 2013 12:36 PM

I always like to choose Cyndaquil but my sister's nickname is Chikorita and I managed to get a female once so there I go, using a Geodude to take down Falkner 3 hits, and Whitney 3 hits. (BTW, use rock smash, I know it sucks but it works and for Miltank use Selfdestruct xD)

Schwan January 2nd, 2013 12:50 PM

First game I ever played was Crystal and picked Feraligatr. Now since I don't use starters I choose Cyndaquil so my rival has Totodile, because Feraligatr fits him the most I think.

Deceit January 2nd, 2013 6:47 PM

In Silver, I started with Totodile. I've always had a thing for the water starter, and Totodile was no exception. Also, that meant the rival would choose the worst starter in my opinion, Chikorita.

Mama-Mamo January 2nd, 2013 7:06 PM

Chikorita!! I love, love, LOVE Meganium. He's so goofy but adorable. A flowery dinosaur! :D It won my heart immediately and to this day is still one of my faves!! <3

mubblelyon January 3rd, 2013 3:55 AM

Most of the time I pick Cyndaquil, but sometimes Chikorita.

pessimisticlyricist January 3rd, 2013 11:02 AM

cyndaquil I was alway a fire type guy at least until third gen.

Device-Sasuke January 12th, 2013 11:04 AM

Totodile because Feraligatr is my favourite final evolved starter Pokemon. Ever.

Ravenfreak January 15th, 2013 12:19 PM

I usually always start with Cyndaquil as it's my favorite starter. It's adorable, and even though i don't care for the fire type, I still think Typhlosion is awesome. Back when I first got the game though I started with Chikorita, seeing how in Blue I started with Bulbasaur and thought it was the best choice. I was wrong though... :V It's my least favorite starter in Gen II. :\

Sweets Witch January 15th, 2013 10:29 PM

In G/S I pick Totodile every time and it's always named Crocogator.

Crystal's a bit different. I'm willing to get Chikorita since Growlithe and Poliwag give a nice early Grass/Fire/Water core, but sometimes I get Cyndaquil and apply the same principle with a Bellsprout.

Imperator161 January 16th, 2013 2:47 PM

I started with Totodile in Gold and Crystal and Cyndaquil in Silver. I always go for the water starter in my first game of a generation (at least) (in this case, that was Gold). I think I actually started with Totodile on Silver at first as well, but at that point, I was just using Silver as a storage pack/trading source for Gold and Crystal. Several years after I got Silver (sometime after Gold died in 2006), I finally restarted my Silver game, made a "real" file, and played through the game with the Cyndaquil line.

I don't think I've ever started with Chikorita, aside from playing the first 15 minutes of the game or so to trade it to another file.

Kiriyuuki Kasuna January 16th, 2013 7:20 PM

For all generations I'd always choose a fire starter. I've always loved them, cause they pack a whole lot of power and dexterity, and of course their 1st stages are so damn cute <3 The first time I played around with my sister's Silver and accidentally restarted it, then saved, I chose a Totodile, my sis was a huge water type picker, regardless of the generation. I'm the opposite so I always ended up choosing Cyndaquil ( In the Anime he was so cute and adorable <3). Even in Gen 4's HGSS: Cyndaquil always won me over.

Annataz January 20th, 2013 12:47 PM

I usually picked Cyndaquil, but I went with Totodile sometimes. I like fire and water types, so I was happy either way. Once in a while I chose Chikorita, and Chikorita was actually the first Gen 2 starter I ever chose, but Meganium just never ended up being as useful as Typhlosion or Feraligatr (or as awesome looking).

Venitardus January 20th, 2013 2:11 PM

With goldi chose Cyndaquil, but for Crystal, i chose a Totodile. and it was a beast feraligatr in the end.

obiwan362 January 24th, 2013 8:32 PM

I always pick the water starter. Squirtle got me loving them. And Totodile was a beast. So how was I not going to pick him?! :)

The Amazing Justin January 24th, 2013 8:55 PM

Chikorita's the best with me. I always liked a challenge and grass starter.

chella182 January 26th, 2013 1:22 PM

In both Gold and Crystal I chose Chikorita. Not really sure why, it sucks for the first two gyms haha.

Letham February 2nd, 2013 1:47 PM

When I very first started Gold back in the day I chose Totodile because he was a spunky little gator but I had some difficulties with Red at the time because my team wasn't evenly balanced/and or leveled so I ended up having to train a Fire-type and some others to beat him.

So these days on HeartGold I always pick Cyndaquil because there are a huge abundance of Water and Grass-types.

DarkLunarWolf February 2nd, 2013 2:28 PM

I chose Cyndaquil everytime.
When he evolved into Typhlosion, he was such a beast. Good type coverage with moveset too.
