That was intentional >.>

Its basically an easter egg for the flying pikachu event (pretty sure it learns surf too).

Also, quoted directly from one of doesnt's updates:
Spoiler:

Changelog:
Spoiler:
Fixed various movepool oddities:
-Sentret's learning pattern now matches Furret's.
-Furret now gets Trick by relearner.
-Pikachu and Raichu can now use the Surf and Fly HMs.
-Butterfree can now use the Safeguard TM.
-Removed pointless Flatters from Nidorino/Nidorina relearner pools.
-Nidoking's Poison Fang moved from level 26 to 27.
-Pikachu and Raichu now have LightningRod and Volt Absorb as secondary abilities.
-Munna and Musharna now have Levitate as a secondary ability.
-Onix now gets Earthquake when it previously had Earth Power.
-Redistributed Giratina's stats so it'll hopefully be a bit more threatening.
-Redistributed Snorunt's and Froslass's moves so they actually get some useful ones by level.
-Timburr evolves at 25 instead of 28.
-Gave Muk the ability Adaptability.
-Miscellaneous other tweaks, I can't remember all this stuff.
Tweaked the League rematches again.
Thick Clubs can now be obtained from the Rocket Game Corner. I'm not sorry.
Changed TM45 from Attract to Thunder Wave.
Changed TM07 from Hail to Curse.
Thunder, Blizzard, Gunk Shot, and Dragon Rush now have 80% accuracy.
Thunder now has 10% paralysis rate.
Rock Tomb now has 55 BP and 95% accuracy.
Changed unused Rock Smash encounter tables so Electrode and Roggenrola will no longer have incorrect location data in the dex and the zero people who Sketched Metronomed Rock Smash will have sane encounters.
New sprites for Mantine and Gligar.
Klink line is no longer mirrored on the menu screen.
Included a file with movepool information.
Moved a few TMs around.

So I've been biking in Rock Tunnel (that elusive Deino) literally all day. Haven't found a single one. Is my hack glitched, or are they supposed to be that hard to find? I looked it up, it's a 2% chance of finding one.

imas234 August 6th, 2014 12:05 AM

Well if it says it has a 2% chance of finding it should should be there and you might just be having bad luck. Probably.

Also, quoting doesnt here :
"Deino is easiest to catch as a rare encounter in the Cinnabar Mansion" idk if this still stands because its pretty old (lol just saw that deino has 1% chance in the mansion but maybe a higher encounter ratio :/ i'll check with amap)

Also, you could just cheat using a-map and increase the encounter rate

Edit: Just checked with a-map, it seems rock tunnel is your best bet. Just keep looking imo.

FireEmblem1717 August 6th, 2014 10:25 AM

I find it after ten minutes of grinding on the lower floor of Rock Tunnel, of course. Luckily it was Modest, so I don't have to repeat the process all over again.

imas234 August 6th, 2014 10:52 PM

good for you, my least favourite part of pokemon is trying to find one with the right nature
>.>

buatisengaja August 30th, 2014 9:13 PM

this is by far the best pokemon hack that i ever played. incredibly new gen move pool and new gen ability (which another hack dont have) is the main selling point of this hack sadly my fav pokemon isnt there which is infernape, 've been searching for the hack that have flare blitz and infernape as a starter but blaziken is good too. no wonder you get the award. the minor downfall is the story is not very different from the fire red. well i'm waiting for your next work (if you still in for making another hack) maybe like pokemon xy on gba? haha you are incredible @doesntknowhowtoplay

swoobat123 September 4th, 2014 10:06 PM

i really like this hack :) but..
could you make player can switch pokemon after defeat foe pokemon?
it's difficult to train low level pokemon in team :(

looneyman1 September 4th, 2014 10:52 PM

If breeding is not enabled, please tell me that with regards to EV training that the EV reducing berries are available. Because there's no point in even using the macho brace if not and I really don't wanna have to restart my game after having assembled a fairly good team to work with to play the harder patches to make EVs nonexistant or be forced to get the starters you get from trades to be able to have a EV trained Serperior...

Nomulus September 13th, 2014 11:56 AM

There's a bug where I can't switch my Pokemon after defeating the opponent's Pokemon, is there a patch or something that fixes this?

Nah, that means the patch worked.

Wait, so you're saying it's intentional? I don't even get the option to switch my Pokemon out after fainting a trainer's Pokemon? That's an odd feature to cut out.

Its supposed to make the game more difficult in a way. To play in set battle is really quite challenging imo

The opponent cant switch out his Pokemon after one of your Pokemon fainted, so why should you be able to do that?

I'm certain it is, but when you're making a mod or hack of a game, you don't take features out unless it's the entire point of the mod. If you want a challenge, just play it on set and let me play it on Shift.

The player character usually has the upper hand in games, it what gives a feeling of power. I can understand placing limits on yourself via nuzlocking, limiting use of items or solo running, but forcing me to play the game in the hard mode when all I want is a casual playthrough is kinda strange.

Justin_Brett September 19th, 2014 11:00 AM

Are there any other ways to get money in this given that you cut out the VS Seeker?

Korlash September 23rd, 2014 6:38 PM

So... I noticed that Kadabra gets the elemental punches (and Alakazam gets blaze kick I think), but there are physical attackers that get the elemental punches as well. Seeing as the physical/special split is intact, are the punches just a bunch of poor moves for kadabra?

It just confuses me why those moves were given to them.

The Abra line had the elemental punches in the base game. I assume it just wasn't changed or left there as a tribute to Gen 3's Alakazam amazing coverage (may you rest in peace, my mustachioed friend)...

ExtremeStyle October 5th, 2014 10:44 AM

This hack looks great,I always look for gen 3 hacks with new moves and phy/spe split!
Although I tend not to like hacks with increased difficulty,I have the urge to play this one :)

Etherion October 28th, 2014 8:32 PM

are there shiny versions of the gen 4 and 5 pokemon?

VS_SEEKER_IS_A_MUST November 18th, 2014 10:15 AM

No way! I freaking love this game, finally a fire red hack with more than the 1-3rd gen pokemons, but its not fun anymore after finding out that the vs seeker was not in it :( is there anyway that this game could have the vs seeker? Another question, why was it even got left out?

a. Yes, but only by cheating. However, in my experience (played through this about 4 times), I really never needed the VS seeker, at the recharging made it inconvenient. Besides, I always found the VS seeker in regular Firered not too necessary: I only needed it for grinding my team for elite 4, and the E4 in this hack in my experience are on par with your own pokemon, should you stick to only 6 of them.

b. Editing movesets of every trainer in Kanto is pretty time consuming to do for one time around. Doing it 2-3 times takes longer, and Doesn't felt like it was less time consuming just to cut the VS Seeker all together. Besides, it makes the game more challenging, as either you develop a strategy for the boss fights, get a better teammate, or simply grind on the wilds.

Don't really see how a pretty useless item in my experience prevents you from enjoying a hack that's quite balanced for a non-official game (save for Hustle Outrage Zweilous at relatively early level), with a challenge that keeps the game interesting.

Why not get the starters? They get more exp gains, and should listen to you if you have most of the badges. I can understand if you just dislike the nicknames they come with.

EV reducing berries are most likely a pain in the butt to add in to Fire Red, as at least the new choice specs in this game have some precedence in Choice Band. It's just simply not worth it to do so much work just to add in some items only a few people would be willing to use. But, then again, that applies to Heat Rock and Damp Rock too...

Well, I did say EV-reducing berries are not in the game before I discussed heat and damp rocks, because that feature was introduced in Emerald, not Fire Red. Which answers your first request, because you know.
Ok, now that I think about it, I can understand that you don't want to be forced into one option. I was just saying that it isn't a bad option.

If I got a bit carried away, sorry for that. But if you're still not satisfied, rephrase your concerns, because I can't totally understand what exactly you want to know.

Sorry if I sounded snarky my point was that in a game like this it's really hard to EV train if a game like this is built with Fire Red as a rom base, especially since one can't really EV train properly and easilly on hacks built on bases other than emerald. I mean I dunno if the daycare with the breeding center is accessable only post game in this hack like the original fire red, and if it is, that makes a great deal of this game needlessly difficult. It would be nice to not have to worry abot it but in games where the difficulty is raised up, that kinda puts some players in a position where they can't really play the game effectively.

I get that EV berries don't exist in fire red or other 3rd gen games prior to emerald, I wanted to ask what the heck is done with the game with regard to EV training. The only way to EV train from there is to breed new pokemon, and if the breeding center is not available earlier in the game then it just makes this hack unplayable if we can't build a team up from the start of the game. I mean if the breeding center is post game, then what use is EV training especially when even the main game practically demands it be done?

My guess is that the hacker thinks that EVs in general give the player the advantage, no matter whatever stat they end up in. Because mostly all of a Pokemon's stats are going to be useful in some shape or form. For example, a Blaziken would especially enjoy attack and speed, but hp, special defense, and defense are also useful in the situation it would have to take a hit. Even special attack might be useful should it run a special fire move.

The only way that EVs will be useful is when they are put into an irrelevant attacking stat, such as special attack for Gliscor. And unless someone really tries to, he or she probably won't get a large majority of EVs there.

I think that's what the hacker was thinking when he made macho brace available, and having difficulty patches without EVs. It's not about choosing which stat the EVs are dumped into, it is the matter of gaining EVs in general.
That's what I'm understanding.

Hmm I didn't know there was a difficulty patch that took them away. I guess I'll use it then.

How many pokemons in total?
Are new moves ADDED or REPLACED?
Are there new abilities?
Moveset according to which Gen?

so many questions not answered in main post :(

I guess the author wanted to keep it simple? Even the Sevii Islands are gone after all.

so many questions not answered in main post :(

Here you go:
1. 151 from gens 1-5 are available (only 1 found postgame), and the rest of the 235 slots are either blank or replaced with a boss pokemon used postgame.
2. Moves from gens 4-5 are present, and have replaced some old ones.
3. New abilities (if what you mean by new is non-native to gen 3). The picture of the Dragonite with Multiscale in the main post confirms this.
4. The Pokemon have new movesets. A text file containing the new movesets are included in the download.

I need help actually playing it :(
I read the readme.txt But i dont get it
what does it mean when it says this
Apply the included patch "Yet Another Fire Red Hack v1.16" to the ROM. You want the one that is 2 megabytes, not the one that's 2 kilobytes.
I dont know what it means when it says aplly the included patch D:

Pretty simple really, you keep the regional dex on so you can focus on balancing out 151.

Kanto is a small region compared to others anyway. Too many more and it's hard to juggle/balance things right outside of "way too easy" when talking about gameplay difficulty. YAFRH is just right because of that, and I like it for that reason.

Typhlosionn March 21st, 2015 9:06 PM

You guys took out the whole Sevii Islands portion? I think that makes the game way too short :/ If it is meant to be a difficulty hack, then a more difficult Sevii Islands would be great.

ItWasABadDream June 13th, 2015 4:51 PM

I just began playing Yet Another Fire Red Hack today. Definitely enjoying the game so far. I've beaten the first gym and here's what I've got...

http://i62.*.com/2gx0daf.jpghttp://i57.*.com/30m5usg.jpghttp://i57.*.com/2hh3hit.jpg
  • This is somewhat subjective. Depending on how you interpret Brock's vocabulary, he still seems to describe his Pokémon as Rock-type Pokémon, but accurately claims them as being Fighting-type in the last picture.

http://i60.*.com/mjq2c2.jpghttp://i57.*.com/2luqrli.jpg
  • These are the main Pokémon I have as of my victory over Brock.
  • Nidoran male / Nidorino learning Peck very early on was beyond helpful when facing Brock.
  • I do have every other Pokémon available up to this point, but only for Pokédex purposes and HM slave purposes.
  • One thing I'm not entirely crazy about is the fact that the battle style is 'Set' and can't be changed. It won't stop me from continuing to play the hack though.

Doesnt did that to advocate a more competitive-styled form of gameplay. You wouldn't see Shift mode in place during official Pokémon tourneys, would you?

Speaking of Doesnt, I have a question: do you plan to do anything like this for HeartGold/SoulSilver in the future?

ItWasABadDream June 14th, 2015 11:14 AM

Duuuude... All my items in my bag except for the 24 Potions I had in the first slot mysteriously just disappeared after defeating my rival in Cerulean City at the start of Nugget Bridge. Worse yet, the items pocket seems to have frozen or something. Even if I go buy more items, they don't show up. It just stays at Potions and only Potions. -_-

Did anyone else experience anything like that? I'm going to restart and play as closely as I can to the original file, but that really sucks. The only positive thing about this is that I can get my Nidoking to learn Bulldozer. He learns it at level 18 & only as Nidoking. I had a Nidorino level 19 when I finally got the Moon Stone, so he just never learned it. >:(

Edit: It just did it again. It looks like every time I save the game (save state and flash save) then shut down the emulator (GBA4iOS), it messes with my items pocket for some reason. Everything but whatever's in item slot #1 disappears and the item pocket becomes dysfunctional; nothing can be added to the pocket. I don't get it. I patched to a completely clean Fire Red 1.0 rom (from doperoms) just like the Readme said.

PokemonTrainerSqueely June 22nd, 2015 2:32 AM

I encountered a glitch in Seafoam Islands. One of the boulders disappears after being pushed down a hole, prevented me from going through the entire thing. Luckily it wasn't one of the boulders involved with getting to Palkia, so all's good on that front. I don't think too much is missed since the cave was pretty much complete and Cinnabar's accessible another way, but still, roughly an hour wasted trying to figure out what I was doing wrong :/

ItWasABadDream July 10th, 2015 11:33 PM

OK, I figured out what was going wrong and screwing up my rom (long story). Anyways, I've been playing this game now for like 3 straight days. I really like this game. The spriting, palettes, updated movesets, updated learnsets, added abilities, added Pokémon - everything is very good. I've only beaten the third gym up to this point because I'm enjoying this game a lot and taking my good old time savoring it. As of right now, my team is as follows:

http://pldh.net/media/pokecons_action/394.gif Prinplup
http://pldh.net/media/pokecons_action/398.gif Staraptor
http://pldh.net/media/pokecons_action/302.gif Sableye
http://pldh.net/media/pokecons_action/215.gif Sneasel
http://pldh.net/media/pokecons_action/124.gif Jynx
http://pldh.net/media/pokecons_action/478.gif Froslass

All my Pokémon really benefit from the physical/special split you added to the game. And with the updated learnsets, Sableye & Sneasel are actually useful in the 3rd gen finally. Really great game so far. Having a blast playing this.

ItWasABadDream July 18th, 2015 3:58 AM

Wow. What can I say... just defeated the Elite Four and champion. I think that took me about 12 days. This hack is amazing, man. I'm a die hard Kanto fan, so this was especially enjoyable for me. It felt like playing an entirely new GBA game because the Pokémon you selected were so well balanced for the game overall. And then with the physical/special split, new movesets, TMs, abilities, gym types, etc. it REALLY felt like an entirely new Pokémon GBA game. I'm working on completing the PokéDex now (got about 98 to go as of this post). Nothing but thanks and praise for this game. I'll be replaying this game for a long while.

Here's the team I compiled when I beat the Elite Four and Champion:
http://i.imgur.com/x9V3gPbm.jpg
  • MVP: Jynx ... giving it Lucky Egg and then Choice Specs & it's OP
  • Runner up: Sableye ... giving it Brightpowder or Leftovers
  • Most trollish Pokémon for my team: Metagross and Lucario
  • Easiest Pokémon for my team: any of the Dragon types in the game

I've just entered the Cerulean Cave and found out what lies inside. Love what you decided to do with the cave! Great idea!

Question is. Where do I find tm 26?
I read it's supposed to be at the dojo but it is not...that I'm seeing at least. And I know it can be bought later on at the cave but I'm not there yet. Am I missing it? Plz help. :) thank you!

I read it's supposed to be at the dojo but it is not...that I'm seeing at least. And I know it can be bought later on at the cave but I'm not there yet. Am I missing it? Plz help. :) thank you!

I think that information is a bit outdated. You get the Earthquake TM from beating the eighth gym. I believe before the hacker added Choice Specs, he had the Earthquake TM in the dojo in its place, but he added Choice Specs and put the Earthquake TM back at the eighth gym.

Please help me!!!!!!! There is a team rocket girl blocking me from getting into the game corner and team rockets hide out... I need the experience to beat Erika. She says, "beat it brat, nobody's getting past me".....is this normal?! What do I do??

mrmoonbeam October 7th, 2015 6:10 AM

Going to download now and jump straight into a Nuzlocke. Wish me luck.

*Update: downloaded. RNG determined I pick Piplup. Route 1 threw me a Sentret, prayed for Nidoran (m) on 22 and received :D.
*Update 2: having reached Cerulean City, I have Prinplup, Nidoking, Venonat and Rilou. R.I.P Starly and Cottonee.

From the OP under the "Misc Notes" spoiler:

- The intended order for midgame is Rocket Hideout -> Celadon Gym -> Pokemon Tower -> Fuchsia Gym -> Fighting Dojo -> Silph Co. -> Saffron Gym -> Seafoam Islands -> Cinnabar Island.

I'm not sure if that would help your problem at all, but I played the game in the above order as recommended by the rom hacker who created this game and did not run into the problem you mention.

I think you may have posted in the wrong thread; I added nothing of the sort.

Lunos October 9th, 2015 3:40 PM

Can someone suggest me a good HM Slave?
I thought Lillipup was kinda like Zigzagoon, but nope, it wasn't </3 ...

Substitute Doll October 9th, 2015 3:49 PM

Furret and or Dragonite (why would you...) are good HM slaves

Lunos October 9th, 2015 4:10 PM

Welp.. it can't learn 4 HMs, just 3 like Nidoking but guess it still works..
Flash isn't used that much anyways, i'll just teach it to Togepi and get over it xD
Thanks <3 ...

Btw, @DoesntKnowHowToPlay
Just saying, but since the Sevii Islands Plot was removed, wouldn't be a bit necessary to replace the Daycare at South of Cerulean for the one which normally is in Fourth Island?
Because i know some people like to breed, get IVs and that stuff, but that Daycare at South of Cerulean only lets you put 1 Pokémon, you can't even make Eggs :/ ...

EDIT:
Oh, yeah, and the HM06 Rock Smash was obtainable in the First Island too, with the Sevii Islands gone, the only way to get it seems to be by training a Sawk, and i don't even know if he is in the Hack xD
Is it useful to catch some specific Pokémon or something? Because if not, it wouldn't be a big deal xD

Drewko October 9th, 2015 8:35 PM

Most useful breeding moves are used to fill up move relearner's lists. There's no real drawback in lack of breeding except for there 0 people that try do play YAFRH competitive.
Rock Smash is ALMOST unobtainable and not needed. There are some rock smash encounters but they are obtainable normaly. The only way to obtain Rock Smash is to use Sketch against pokemon that use this move via metronome.

FeraliM8r December 18th, 2015 6:02 PM

So i download the file, read the message saying patch with the 2MB file, and the only problem is, i didn't get the 2MB ips file. Is this a mistake? Should i patch fire red with the 2KB instead?

Persondynamo222 December 29th, 2015 9:26 PM

Hi. I would like to review this game, if you don't mind.

This game is beautifully made. A lot of effort was made to make this game possible. The pokemon are really special.

The starters for this game are Snivy, Torchic, and Piplup. Some examples of pokemon that can be caught from future generations include, but aren't limited to: Mantyke, Honchkrow, Golurk, Palkia, and many, many more.

Sure there are a few bugs, but the creators is trying their best to fix it. It is amazing and I highly recommend downloading it and playing it.

treekoman9 December 31st, 2015 10:25 PM

I'd like to report a glitch/bug. In Seafoam Islands, one of the boulders that you have too push down disappears after it is pushed down the second time. Not sure if it is just me but i can't progress past the Seafoam Islands. Thanks in advance :D

AlphaElfin May 18th, 2016 6:34 PM

This ROM hack is beautiful. I appreciate you for making this hack. I have always wanted to make a semi-competitive team in Pokemon, but, because I do not own a 3DS, I see no point in doing so for weak gym leaders (In vanilla version). I was able to catch all my favorite pokemon and then train them into beasts to annihilate the E4, who were not as easy as normal. I appreciate that they use competitive builds and strategies; it makes the game a lot more enjoyable for me by having an actual challenge. The sole complaint I have about this hack is the boulder glitch in Seafoam Islands. I retraced my steps for hours trying to figure out what I did wrong.
Solid 9/10
The team I used to beat the game:
Starter: Snivy - Ditched
Muk MvP (Tank/Sweeper with Gunk Shot)
Dragonite (Surfer/For Dragon-Type Coverage)
Gyarados (For emergency backup)
Gliscor (Earthquake switch-in)
Electivire T (Flying/Water Coverage)
Stoutland (Ghost-Type Coverage/Strength-user)

Same for me too :(

EternalSeekerX June 25th, 2016 1:41 PM

You got rid of some moves didn't you? Was this a limitation or do you not like some moves?

VS.SEEKER.IS.A.MUST July 18th, 2016 1:14 AM

What?! No VS.Seeker? ????

What a shame that such an amazing game dont have such an important item...
Attack wild pokemon? How is that going to help? Where all the fun of it when you can re-battle PPL and actually train better
I feel so sad the creator decided not to have it in a such awesome game
With out it you just basically only have the E4 Rematch left and thats it
What a waste
Just sharing my thoughts
If only FireRed Omega had what this game have and if only this game had the Vs.Seeker..... ????

fyflate89 July 18th, 2016 1:20 AM

it really doesnt matter

Drewko July 18th, 2016 3:28 AM

Wild 'mons are so balanced that grinding is not an issue, and fighting against the same AI controlled, underleveled opponents again and again and again is far from enjoyable. Between main story, Cerulean Cave (pretty damn revamped, i will not spoil it) and E4 Rebattles (It was created to be borderline unfair, it's your final challenge) there is PLENTY of things to do.

This hack was created long before Fairy-type became a thing.

Anthony_Armanuse June 19th, 2017 12:29 PM

Hi Everybody!! Soo I downloaded the game ( yet another fire red hack) and I'm playing and even when I have the shift option on I can't switch out my Pokémon when I'm battling opponents with with more than one Pokémon. How can this be fixed??

ICameHereForHacks June 19th, 2017 12:32 PM

It can't be fixed, it's not a bug.

Anthony_Armanuse June 20th, 2017 4:30 AM

Why??

ICameHereForHacks June 20th, 2017 7:18 AM

Because option to switch a Pokemon was removed to raise difficulty of the game.

sweetkatydid July 15th, 2018 8:38 AM

So, I just realized that I can't set my battle style to shift rather than set. Is there any way to alter this? It's not really my cup of tea, 'cause it's kind of a pain in the butt when I'm switch training.

Arionix July 18th, 2018 6:29 PM

Level 37. Misc notes are a bit too outdated.

rapu April 10th, 2019 7:00 PM

Heya, I'm having an issue where one of the boulders simply vanishes after being dropped down a hole in Seafoam island, could this be an issue because of my ROM? I've spent a bunch of time trying to fix this but nothing seems to have worked.

PkmnTrainerKonner April 11th, 2019 1:14 PM

Is the battle style forced to set? That's kind of putting me off from playing this hack.

Those are included in the zip file

Inner Rhymes June 14th, 2020 12:15 AM

Finished this hack, and I can honestly say that I had a complete blast playing through this. hands down my favorite Fire Red enhancement hack. The difficulty was was perfectly balanced (although the gym leaders could really be a pain, especially if you are playing on set mode) and the number of Pokemon in each route/cave were diverse but not cramped up numerically like most Dex expansion hacks. Seriously blows my mind that I did not come across this during my stay in the Pokecommunity. Thank you so much for making this.

have you tried the difficulty patch? i only ever ran through the hard patch and the league post-game is a total nightmare. (if you want to know what im talking about trying taking on the league a second time in your current playthrough if you haven't already)

I tried it once and yes, it's brutal. No EVs matter so much, I'm currently playing Emerald Kaizo and the lack of EVs make a difference. The Champion rematch was just a broken team. I can't remember if I used save states. I don't think I did, but yeah. Fun hack though, I'd like to play Lunatic Mode again.

I think the hack you are playing is Yet another Fire Red hack Remake" which is in English but available only on the whack a hack forums. This thread is for an entirely different hack that happens to share the name of the ROM hack you are playing.

Sparhawk55 July 10th, 2020 3:31 PM

Where is the EXP Share? Trying to train a 'Mon when Battle Mode is forced to Set is a pain in the ass.

Was Riolu holding an Everstone? Did Riolu faint in the battle that it reached Lvl30? Those are the only 2 scenarios I can think of that would prevent evolution.
