Are you playing B2W2 on 3DS?

Yesterday I thought of playing White 2 on my 3DS, since it could be more comfortable for me not to be switching between both consoles (DS and 3DS) every time I wanted to play a DS or 3DS game... as soon as I started White 2, I remembered why I wasn't playing any DS game on it... yes, they look quite bad and I can't stand it.

So, I'm wondering, do you play B2/W2 on your 3DS? Or you prefer doing it on DS/DSi because of the bad look of the games on 3DS?

Aura Vitae November 5th, 2012 8:05 AM

I'm playing White 2 on my 3DS mainly because of the Dream Radar and because I got rid of my DS after getting my 3DS.

holdmykidney November 5th, 2012 10:57 AM

I started playing it on the 3ds but now I've switched back to the DSi.

I actually don't mind the way DS games look on the 3DS. I think it's fine.

But, it does bother me that DS games block the StreetPass function on the 3DS. I was recently in Japan and I wanted to leave the 3DS AND Pokemon White 2 sharing data with passers-by so I had to leave both running.

I've also found that sometimes when I put White 2 into the 3DS, sometimes the cartridge doesn't register. It doesn't seem to "fit" the 3DS properly. Anybody else had this?

My personal opinion is that Black and White 2 are really started to show how dated the current Pokemon engine is. Even my wife asked, since this is the latest game in the series, why do the Pokemon in the foreground of the battle look so rubbish. Everything the game is trying to do with zooming images, medals (i.e. trophies) and data sharing needs to step up and embrace the features of the 3DS. That's what it's there for.

Lord Varion November 5th, 2012 11:27 AM

I'm playing on the 3DS because it's all I have
But in all fairness, it's like the GBA quality on a DS. Looks good, but it's not the same.

When I get Dream Radar, that'll be my reason.

Bounsweet November 5th, 2012 1:05 PM

I play it on my 3DS XL, and sometimes I'm okay with the distorted resolution but most of the time I do the Start + Select trick when the game boots up to have the correct resolution.

I only use my DS Lite when I'm trading Pokemon, but I kind of want another one or a DSi because my Lite has a broken hinge and is pretty uncomfortable to play.

I'm seriously considering this one. uwu

You do know you can trade between a 3DS/DS/i
Right?

You can :) But the game does dislike you using the online function between different consoles. I don't know why, but it always throws a hissy-fit at me if I change consoles and try to go online!

Dmatt November 5th, 2012 2:11 PM

I think it looks horrible, no matter what handeld you use...
I used to play White on my DSi, then sold it, and months after I got a 3DS. I guess I forgot if it was any better, but in my perspective, they both look awful when they zoom in your pokemon...
I just tried the Start + Select trick that someone mentioned, but it just makes them tiny, yet, still horrible :p

My point is, GameFreak really *really* needs to step up with this zooming thing. All other sprites and stuff are fine IMO, specially on Black 2, all but the zoom.

What is this start and select thing you speak of? What does it do? I am curious. :P

I mostly play it on my 3ds because it's more comfortable that my Dsi and DS lite. I sometimes switch, though, when my 3ds isn't charged and vice versa.

Hikamaru November 5th, 2012 4:20 PM

When I get Black 2, I will be playing it on my Ice Blue DS Lite that I have used with all other Pokemon games.

Cataclysmic November 5th, 2012 4:28 PM

I started on the 3DS, switched to the DSi, and finally ended up on my new 3DS XL after getting it for my birthday.

MrTripStack November 5th, 2012 5:17 PM

I actually decided on selling my DSi to a friend once I purchased my 3DS and playing White 2 on my 3DS is my only option at the moment. It does look a little different, but it doesn't bother me too much.

I've been thinking about buying another DSi (or even a DS Lite), so I'd be able to trade between my games whenever I need to, without having to use somebody else's DS. I keep deciding against it because I know that the games will eventually move to the 3DS, and the DS would then be useless to me.

And Dream Radar, for the win!

curiousnathan November 5th, 2012 5:21 PM

I play on my DS Lite. I've always loved it, and I think on 3DS, the gaming experience is just...different.

Krazzikk November 5th, 2012 5:32 PM

Well, due to me being poor i don't really have a 3DS, so yeah, DSi.

Yeah, I said I trade between my Lite and 3DS but want a new Lite because my current one is funky to play on from the broken hinge.

The 3DS XL does have a slightly longer battery life, but the previous DS systems still trump the 3DS systems as far as battery goes by a longshot. Makes it nicer to play games for long periods of time like on road trips and such.

Ω Ruby and α Sapphire November 5th, 2012 5:59 PM

I use my DSi! I have a 3DS, but I don't like the way DS games look on it. They look all weird, and then when you hold select to make it proportional it goes so small! So yeah, that is why is use my DSi!

Iceshadow3317 November 5th, 2012 6:29 PM

Right now I am using my DSiXL. I plan on getting the 3ds xl sooner or layer, but I just don't feel like wasteing money for a new DS when I just got the IXL 2 years ago after having the first DS they came out with sense then.

Synerjee November 5th, 2012 8:18 PM

I think I'm the only one here who played it on an emulator on my computer. :P The main reason of this being my DS Lite is at home and I'm not at home now. And the emulator works just as fine, but without WiFi connection. And it makes my computer throw fits, make loud angry whirring noises and crash all my open applications. Yeah. I should change my computer soon. But that's out of topic lol. ><

I want a new DS! Anything. 3DS or DSi. It would make me so very happy.

Rivvon November 5th, 2012 9:21 PM

I first booted it up on 3DS and I don't care for how blurry it looks at all. It looks much better on my DSi, which is what I'm using. I only put the cartridge into my 3DS when I need to transfer something from Dream Radar.

It changes between "full resolution" and "original" or something of that sort... But it looks way too small when you play it that way, and the distortion "fix" is minimal. If anything, just the overworld looks sharper, but the battle looks not-so-good.

alisaie November 6th, 2012 6:56 AM

Playing it on a DS Lite myself. Or rather, on my sibling's DS Lite. Mine has a broken hinge that makes it hard to play on and it also doesn't seem to like to connect to wifi at all anymore. Hopefully I'll be getting a 3DS to replace my DS relatively soon.

One only needs to hold select, actually. Do so as a DS game is starting (ie. during the black screen before anything comes up).

As Dmatt said, it will cause a DS game to run at its native resolution. I will add that because the physical size of pixels on a 3DS screen is smaller, the display will be smaller than on a DS.

Kikaito plush November 6th, 2012 9:01 AM

I have to play it on my 3DS as that is the only one of my DSes that Wi-fi works.

PlatinumDude November 6th, 2012 10:03 AM

I'm currently using my 3DS for B2/W2; I mainly use my DSi for trading between my own games.

rizoph November 6th, 2012 4:00 PM

I'm playing on a 3DS because my little sister is the one with a DSi.

morrison November 7th, 2012 6:55 AM

I have got a DS lite.
I bought it a couple of years back.

vaporeon7 November 7th, 2012 11:48 AM

I use a 3DS because my DS Lite doesn't work very well anymore and I can only use the internet with it.

Ice Car November 7th, 2012 6:29 PM

I recently got my 3DS. I thought I might as well play it on it since my DS Lite was getting old, something was wrong with the screen and the hinges were damaged a bit.

Valvatorez November 8th, 2012 3:17 AM

Well, I have a 3DS, but I also have a DSi XL, which is much, much better for playing DS games on, so I've been using that for Black 2, except for when I've been using the Dream Radar to transfer things over. DS games look a little blurry to me when they're on the 3DS screen, whereas on the XL they're a lot crisper...even if they are magnified to at least twice their original size.

WingedDragon November 8th, 2012 2:54 PM

I dont see how it looks bad. I think it looks great on 3DS. think it be neater if the 3D thing was on the games

Kotone November 8th, 2012 3:14 PM

yes i'm currently playing W2 on my 3ds. still gotta get the dream radar!

Altairis November 8th, 2012 7:48 PM

One of the hinges that keeps the screen is broken (so the screen's floppy) on my regular DS so I've been playing on the 3DS just because it's broken, haha. :3

FrostPheonix November 8th, 2012 10:07 PM

both, but I prefer playing on my DSi, as it looks so much better IMO on it. I get frustrated with the graphics on 3ds because I want it to be as good as it can be. And also, my DSi is in perfect working condition, so I basically only use the 3ds for 3d games :D

Pinta77 November 10th, 2012 11:08 AM

I just play on my DS lite. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to get a 3DS soon if the next pokemon games are for 3ds =/

imevil November 10th, 2012 11:44 AM

I play on either as I have them both but it really doesn't matter

MellowJello November 10th, 2012 9:52 PM

I can live without the good graphics on the ds. Enjoying my blue 3DS XL right now :P

deathsythe November 10th, 2012 9:59 PM

i been playing on my 3DS-xl and actually grown pretty used to it and dosent really bother me but when you go to the 1:1 ratio looks like if you playing on a DSi or lite if you like the sharper more crisp look, but im ok with the softer look plus its easier on the eyes , kinda looking forward to seeing what GF has in store for the next generation :)

thats what i have to its aweeesome lol wish i could get my hands on the charizard one tho looks sick or maybe the pikachu edition too T-T but would be useless to me with the region lock tho damn you nintendo

Azumi November 11th, 2012 1:27 AM

I'm using my 3DS, but only because my DS Lite is almost unplayable on, what with the L button AND the hinge being broken. I only use the latter for trading when I need it now. Plus, the Wi-fi in my house is incompatible with my DS.

(it's almost like god hates my ds lite because i can no longer play with it)

何贤豪 November 13th, 2012 1:50 AM

I'm using my Nintendo DSi XL, because that's the only thing standing that can use it. Obviously, a GBA can't play it...I have already sold my old Nintendo DS Lite, broken hinge, broken top screen and all...and I don't even have a Nintendo 3DS, let alone a 3DS XL. For sure, when I get a 3DS XL when my DSi XL breaks, I'm immediately switching and never going back, because the DSi XL would automatically get sold when I'm gonna buy the 3DS XL. I'll get adapted to the issues in graphics when a 3DS plays a DS game...at least that's what they say...about the 3DS, that it can't play DS games as well as the true DS.

Nick November 13th, 2012 11:05 AM

I don't like what the 3DS does to the graphics on DS games, so I prefer to play it on the DS. My 3DS is used exclusively for Legend of Zelda and when I need to trade/migrate Pokémon to White 2.

Shiny Celebi November 13th, 2012 12:09 PM

Im probably going to use my 3DS for White 2, simply because it's already in that one and I dont want to wear down my DS Lite very much, Im trying to be careful with it as it's fairly old, plus I transfer Dream Radar Pokemon to that game.

Miyako November 13th, 2012 12:10 PM

I play on my 3DS mostly because of the Dream Radar, but also because the only other DS I have is a phat and it feels so clunky.

Eeveelution Co-ordinator November 27th, 2012 8:19 AM

I haven't gotten a new DS since I got my first one about 6/7 years, and the games look amzing on it because they aren;t fuzzy graphics and have plenty of detail (Yes I have the original DS)

Nintendofox3d November 27th, 2012 7:16 PM

I play on my 3DS. I think it looks better on the ds/dsi. But I like using my 3DS better, becuase of pokemon dream rader, and its easier to connect to the dream world.

SoulSilver10112 December 10th, 2012 2:16 PM

I use my 3DS for it, due to the better internet on it. (The drawback is short battery life, though.)

Adore December 10th, 2012 6:28 PM

I'm playing it on my DSi. I'd love to be able to access the Dream Radar and all of that cool stuff by playing it on a 3DS, but I don't have the money for one. :/

Brendino December 10th, 2012 11:08 PM

I've just been playing White 2 on my DS Lite. There are very few games that I can think of at the moment that would make me want to upgrade to a 3DS, so I'm probably going to hold off until the main series games are exclusively on the 3DS- especially with my DS Lite in pretty good condition.

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ December 11th, 2012 8:19 PM

Since I have both my DSi and my Nintendo 3DS with me, I decided to play any new games that I got for either the 3DS or DSi to play it on my 3DS, so that means I've played Pokemon Black 2 on my Nintendo 3DS. Whenever I tried to play it on a DSi, it feels extremely weird.

:t354:TG

chella182 December 12th, 2012 11:53 AM

Currently playing Black 2 on my Pikachu 3DS XL :D will be starting White 2 fairly soon.

mobyn December 12th, 2012 5:07 PM

I'm still playing it on my old DS Lite but I am considering buying a 3DS XL. Is the bigger screen worth the effort? And is Dream Radar any good? I have yet to try it hands on.

Panfisha December 12th, 2012 5:31 PM

Both.
DS games in a 3DS look weird; I think it's the re-sizing of the top and bottom screens (compared to the DSi.)
Though I do use my 3DS at times for the dream radar.

Chaos Rush December 12th, 2012 9:15 PM

I'm playing on my DS Lite, but it's not a great experience, since my DS Lite keeps having this weird problem with the screen where everything turns white, and I have to fiddle with the top half to make it go away. It usually stays fine like that, but if I bend the top half to a certain point, the screen turns white again. As a result, my DS Lite's screen is always glitchy white when I turn it on.

I'm going to get a 3DS XL pretty soon though, so I'll probably never use my crappy DS Lite again (except now I can finally trade Pokemon between my games, once I get a 3DS).

phonastik December 13th, 2012 5:52 AM

I have both games and both systems, and usually I have Black 2 in my DS lite and White 2 in my 3DS. It does look a lot better on the DS, though. I also prefer the regular d-pad controls to the circle pad, so I use the d-pad on the 3DS as well.

Turboblaze December 13th, 2012 5:37 PM

I do the same thing except I play white 2 on my ds lite and black 2 on my 3ds and I also agree saying that it looks better on the lite.

Fenrir Reki December 13th, 2012 9:16 PM

I never use my DS unless I want to mess around with action replay. I rarely even use my 3DS, but yes, I do play White 2 on my 3DS.

Yeah, I kept my original 3DS for that reason - it's nice to trade my best Pokémon from Black to Black 2 and eventually from Black 2 to White 2 :D

Rewy December 14th, 2012 3:14 PM

I use my 3DS for my White2 mainly just because it's the only console I can use for any kind of trading/DreamWorld things.
My other option is Lite and it doesn't like WPA2 webs... =(

HaiImNate December 31st, 2012 3:25 PM

I played Black 2, about 50 of the 60 hours, on my 3DS. I wish that the games had been for 3DS, but they were still fun on the DS. I c an't wait for a Pokemon game like this to come to the 3DS. I am so excited for one!!

MidiMasterShiro December 31st, 2012 3:36 PM

I've been playing Black 2 on my 3DS, since the hinge on my DS Lite is kinda loose and for Wi-Fi.

dontstay96 January 2nd, 2013 8:35 PM

I'm playing it on emulator :3

Imperator161 January 12th, 2013 3:25 PM

I'm mainly playing BW2 on my DS (alternating between the original DS and DS lite, depending on which one is easier to get to/has more battery life left). I have a 3DS, but it doesn't keep its charge too long, and at the moment, I prefer to use it for 3DS-exclusive games (and use one of my DS systems for DS games).

I'm actually strongly considering buying a DS Lite, because DS games look really bad on the 3DS screen. I wish Nintendo had forgone 3D in favour of doubling the resolution, because that way DS games would look just as crisp. But, gimmicks sell I guess! I also want a DS Lite because the 3DS's battery life is horrible. The standby is so amazingly bad.

SoraTheTruth January 12th, 2013 4:20 PM

Uh, no, it's not going to be less of a gimmick when X and Y come out. There isn't anything in X and Y that needs to be in stereoscopic 3D. The only game I have seen that actually benefits functionally from 3D is Super Mario 3D Land, and that's only in a few areas. Pokemon X and Y aren't going to vindicate Nintendo's penchant for gimmicks in any way.

I always have wireless off unless I want to use the e-shop, and then I turn it off right after. The standby is still pathetic. I can't even leave it on standby overnight without it being dead when I wake up. I could leave my PS Vita on standby for over a month and I could still play a game for an hour when I finally use it again.

jgalvan100 January 13th, 2013 7:52 PM

I play on my 3ds. Its all I have. And I don't mind the appearance of Ds games on the 3ds.

Firox January 13th, 2013 10:32 PM

My grandma bought me 3DS XL today, I'm now playing it on my 3DS White and also at times Black 2... I will give my DS Lite to my little sister.

MudkipBoy January 18th, 2013 12:40 PM

on 3DS, because to afford one I had to trade in my beloved DSi XL, but I honestly don't notice the drop in quality much

blue January 18th, 2013 2:36 PM

I first began playing on my DS Lite but since they have introduced X & Y I'm trying to familiarize myself with controls of the 3DS.

Crackin355 January 18th, 2013 4:16 PM

I play on my 3DS. It's either my first DS with scratches all over the bottom screen or the clean 3DS.

Also, I don't see how it makes the games look bad, they look just fine.

Autaven January 23rd, 2013 7:33 AM

I play on my 3DS XL, I do have my DSi still but reeally don't see what's up with how it looks on there. Not to mention it was an expensive Christmas present, damn straight I'll be getting the use out of it!

BlockedHeart January 23rd, 2013 6:50 PM

Play mine on my 3DS XL without the Start + Select trick and although the pixelation can be a little unnerving sometimes... I love the feel of the 3DS XL and how large the spread between your hands and the screen is, perfect sized console no matter what the resolution. Haven't had a real problem with it yet.

QuickSilveri January 23rd, 2013 7:09 PM

DS 'til I die! (or until X/Y forces me to get a 3DS)

Regards, Chris

Urugamosu January 23rd, 2013 8:30 PM

I did play Black 2 on the 3DS, it was a bit annoying with the blurriness, but was enough to bear during the game.

Seth Rollins January 24th, 2013 7:50 AM

Yeah, I play BW 2 on the 3ds. I only have a 3ds now. My DS lite's broken, and my DSi, I gave it to my little sister.

Mark Kamill January 26th, 2013 5:37 PM

Yep, playing it on the 3DS. Basically bought one to play B2, and for anything else I might buy. I love how crisp it is, even when stretched to fit the screen.

Fangking Omega January 26th, 2013 6:47 PM

DSi XL all the way. I only use my 3DS XL (I'm a sucker for big screens) for DS games when I'm trading between my own versions as I don't like the blurry picture (or else the small picture if booting the game in native DS resolution), washed out colours and tinnier sound that the 3DS gives you when playing in DS mode.

roosterman February 24th, 2013 5:07 PM

i play on my 3DS since it is very helpful to have a working top screen. but that's just me.

Student D1 February 24th, 2013 5:57 PM

I play it on both my Nintendo DS Lite and my Nintendo 3DS; but I mostly play it on my 3DS since I feel comfortable playing it there, and I also have the Pokémon Dream Radar app. In order to send the items and Pokémon I got from the Dream Radar, of course I need the game inserted on my 3DS.

Anyways, whereas for the DS Lite, I play it there if I'm recharging my 3DS. The DS Lite has longer battery life, considering I use it at the lowest bright setting and with no sounds. The graphics are also better, since it's not stretched like in the 3DS (I wonder how it looks like if it were in the 3DS XL ).

stp February 24th, 2013 5:59 PM

Not buying a 3DS, so just on my Lite.

Kotowari March 1st, 2013 1:57 AM

Playing it on my 3DS as it's the only DS console I own (and most likely will own). I'm fine with the quality. 8D; But that's probably because I've never seen it differently.

Lugia16 March 1st, 2013 2:57 PM

i play on 3ds because its all i have. I have a 3ds and a 3ds xl

Brizz March 1st, 2013 5:16 PM

I play all of my DS games on my 3DS ever since I sold my DS Lite for a 3DS.

Treecko March 1st, 2013 6:38 PM

Nope don't have a 3DS. I'm playing it on my good old-fashioned special hot rod red Mario Kart DS Phat.

Playing BOTH Black & White 2 on DeSmuME and on a Nintendo DS Lite. I prefer DeSmuME because I'm going to start doing VIDEOS in a couple of weeks, so STAY TUNED.

So, is it too late to change my answer? Haha. Ended up getting a 3DS XL really cheap a little while back, and converted to playing White 2 on it instead. If I recall, I can't use Dream World because of the switch, but I don't think it's that big of a loss.

3DS XL. I sold my DS lite to pay for it, soooo...

After I've been playing for a while, it doesn't bother me to have 60% of the screen black.

I use my 3DS XL for playing, and my DSi for trading pokemon.

3DS because it's all I have. I don't keep old consoles because I like to stay in the now.

I mainly use my 3DS XL for the latest games. I still have my DS but notice the 3DS offers much nicer image quality and the colors are far more vibrant and bright compared to the older DS.

A plain ol' DS Lite because that's all I have. I'm outdated.
Wii(have) > Wii U(dont have)
DS(have) > 3Ds(dont have)
Xbox360(have) > (Soon-to-be)Xbox 720(will not have)
You get the point.

I've bought a 3DS the time it came out and used it since then. Also I like the fact, that I can use wifi with it, since my old DS, well you know why. xD

My DS Lite is back at home, so I can't use it lol but I do play all my games on my shiny Aqua Blue 3DS. Wish it was Pearl Pink, though.

BraveNewWorld April 15th, 2013 2:40 PM

I generally play it on my DSi, as it looks nicer.

Aurora April 15th, 2013 4:41 PM

I dislike the stretching-out of the game that occurs when you play it on a 3DS (particularly on the 3DS XL, which is the 3DS I use predominantly), so I play it on the DSi XL, with the advantage of a large display and resolution preservation. So, naturally, the game looks clearer and nicer~

Nope! But I will. Eventually when I properly play through White 2, I'll be playing it on the 3DS. :)

But for B2 it was definitely on the DS, since I only got my 3DS this year.

UltraPyrus May 2nd, 2013 12:49 PM

I play it on my 3DS, because my DS just sucks and if you move the top screen at all it'll pretty much glitch and it gets really annoying and inconvenient.
