What is League of Legends?
League of Legends (LoL) is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games. Players are formed into 2 even teams of Champions, 3v3 or 5v5. As of 13 September 2012 there are 104 different champions from which to choose. Each player begins at opposing sides of a map in an area called the Spawning Pool, near what is called a Nexus. A match is won when either team's nexus is destroyed. To destroy a Nexus, each team must work through a series of Turrets placed along a path to each base referred to as a Lane. Along the way, each player gains levels from killing the opposing team's champions and Minions (NPCs that constantly spawn and attack the other team) and defeating neutral monsters. Completing objectives rewards players with gold which is used to purchase items.

The game can currently be played in five different modes: Tutorial, Custom, Co-Op vs. AI, Normal and Ranked. Custom mode allows players to manually create custom game sessions that other players can find on a game list and join. Co-op vs. AI is a mode where players are matched either alone or as part of a group against a team of bots.

The Ranked mode originally became available to players of level 20 and higher, but was later changed to only be available to players of level 30 (players can still queue for Ranked games if they are over level 20, but only if they are in an arranged team).Ranked uses Draft Mode where each team can ban up to 3 champions from the game, and the two teams cannot play the same champion. In addition, opponent Champions picks are visible before the loading of the actual game. Second, an exclusive, visible rating is calculated based on the player's performance in Ranked games.

Hey :) Can't believe no one has signed up for this yet. LoL is one of the best F2P games out there.

My favorite? Probably Caitlyn/Teemo. Dunno, I just started out with them and kept going. I usually kill steal with Teemo xD but that's not on purpose. I got mid usually, but if there are annies or stuff i go top or bot, whichever needs me. And I hate poppy, for one. Dunno, her skills seem cool but AUGH she seems horrible in design.

I'll sign up! I didn't sign up yet cause... I just didn't see it >_>;

Usual and the only role I play: support (Taric, Sona, Janna, Soraka, learning Zyra atm)

I know, I have such an expansive hero pool ^_______________^

I have no idea how to jungle, but my preferred roles are the AD Carry and the Support. My favourite champion is Teemo, and several others.. but mainly Teemo. I don't have a least favourite champion, but I need to start playing more because I dislike champions that rely on consistent comboing such as Veigar.

p.s stop typoing League. :P

Frostweaver November 12th, 2012 12:32 PM

Erm most heroes will rely on consistent combo as that's the best way to chain the CC and probably burst down someone before things go toooo wrong. I suppose that ADCs have the least reliance on combo, but some of them like vayne got certain things they want to do not just pure AA spam.

Teemo's so bad but so fun to play with an aspd build XD;

omg i feel so out of my depth here, I am not really into playing truly competitively, I never go for a specific build. If I play it's usually the odd play that I do for fun and to slowly build up IP for an awesome champion. And the only I think I understood is coincidentally the thing I agree with xD yeah combos are a big part of 'em all, but Veiger is kinda dependent on farming early on for minions to get his AP up.

And yeah I only play Teemo because he's really fun to play. Some of the others I just can't use.

Frostweaver November 12th, 2012 1:19 PM

With the DFG nerf, Veigar is probably pretty bad anyway ._.; but yes veigar relies on getting stun off, then the other 2 nukes and end with ult+dfg in some vain hopes to OHKO some major threat. However even some supports are like that... learning zyra now and I just can't put down 2 seeds in time as I use snare to get the slowing plants off to use her as a support effectively =/

The same can be said about LeBlanc. :x Not that LeBlanc doesn't fall off late game anyway, but now she has a non-existent mid game. (like seriously; next time you meet a LeBlanc, just buy a Negatron Cloak, and you're set. .___.)

Anyway, welcome~! I'll add all you guys soon.

With the season 3 changes coming soon, are you guys excited?

Logiedan November 12th, 2012 1:28 PM

Basically, he needs to combo correctly including with the DFG to burst, because he's a burst+combo mage. I think he's mainly there just to take down the ADC or APC because his kit helps him do that so easily.

I main Teemo, and playing him as AP is ridiculously fun. xD

Frostweaver November 12th, 2012 1:34 PM

Looking forward to all of the S3 item changes to be honest. Sightstone is going to be FAAAAAABULOUS! I can't wait to see all the item changes together though (the patch today was pretty disappointing in terms of the changes it have.) It's always good to shake up the game a bit to keep things fresh.

Would definitely consider LeBlanc to be a combo mage too. Even with a negatron, LB still hurts heck of a lot >_<; but to be honest not every champion needs a late game. Some are just designed to burst early and win early before it's too late. LB is one of those high risk, high reward if you can snowball early enough and better win by 30 minutes.

Miss Doronjo November 12th, 2012 1:38 PM

Well, when I play Leblanc, I want to get the mid behind while letting my other teammates have as much kills as I do~ *___*

There are also going to be buffs and nerfs to champions in the patch, soooo yeah, I'm excited for that too. :3

Logiedan November 12th, 2012 1:46 PM

I think a good example of a champion with an early game more than a late game is Draven. His abuse early game (if used right) lets him win early so easily because of that intense DPS.

The thing I'm not excited about for S3 is the jungle changes. I don't jungle, like I said but I think they might be changing how leashing works, jungle timers, stats, etc. But it is a good opportunity for me to start jungling with the new changes.

Frostweaver November 12th, 2012 6:47 PM

Draven can last for a long long time beyond early game. It's not very accurate to say he's the leblanc of adc (and pretty sure everyone agrees that you can't do much to stop a leblanc's damage midgame beyond wait it out so that she falls off naturally.)

If there's any adc who got no scale late game, it's probably Cait. She has no CC/Initiate (Ashe's niche) but has no steroids of any sort to last later on. All that she got is to bully early game with her range. She's totally viable, just that she's the opposite of vayne: no early game, beast mode late game.

Jungle changes will affect what junglers are viable though, which in turn affects everyone. Right now Junglers are all cc machines and won't get much damage items. Supposedly riot's new changes will "fix" this.

Fuyuki~ November 12th, 2012 7:08 PM

I don't play LoL but my brother plays it and he said he's... Uh... In the Top 1% in the world. I somewhat doubt this.

Frostweaver November 12th, 2012 7:16 PM

If his elo ranking is like above 2000 then ya XD; I think elo 1500 and above is top 10% of the world already. Sadly I don't play ranked as it's too much pressure and I'm inflexible. I only play with friends for fun.

It's entirely possible though!

What is/are your favourite Champions from the game? Why?: Ezreal, Nunu, and Garen
What is your preferred position? (Mid, Top, Bot, or Jungle):I prefer to be on top.
Who are your least favourite champions? Why?: Don't ask why but I hate Anivia... lol. :D

I'm guessing it's because of Anivia's egg, isn't it?

Yeah, and if you use all of your skills on it including your ss/last skill and some times you don't have anymore mana. Then you'll go (WTF?! he's alive lol.) \-_-/

And Ezreal was my favorite right from the start I find him easy to use. And it's also because, I have experience with DotA. \m/

Logiedan November 14th, 2012 10:36 PM

I love the AD role, but I've never played Ezreal before. But I always wanted to play AP Ezreal despite the hard nerfs on his AP scalings and his W.

Miss Doronjo November 15th, 2012 6:37 PM

A new support champ is coming out! Her name is Nami:

http://riot-web-static.s3.amazonaws.com/images/news/November_2012/2012_11_15_Nami_Sneak_Peek/Nami_Concept_thumb.jpg

According to RIOT, this is what Nami brings to the table:

~ She brings a combination of defensive utility (including a way to heal in combat situations!) and offensive “set-up”

~ Her offensive setup features a skillshot-style paradigm, something supports have only really had with Lulu

Cirrus November 15th, 2012 8:16 PM

As a support secondary, I am instabuying Nami, of course.

(I am a jungle main.)

Actually feel free to add me; my summoner name is Cloudmagus on NA.

Logiedan November 16th, 2012 12:34 AM

I am so insta-buying her. More details have been added here.

As a support main, I think she is a great and well-balanced champion. I don't know much about her play-style considering I haven't tried it, but I am definitely loving her kit; especially the bouncing heal on her W and her stun Q.

Frostweaver November 17th, 2012 4:45 PM

Well can't say if she's great or not without trying her... though yes I intend to buy her as well. It'll really depends on the actual numbers and trying her out before we can really judge if she is going to work as nice as it seems.

Logiedan November 18th, 2012 2:35 PM

You can play a bit of her if you manage to get onto the public beta testing server. Although it ruins the hype in all, you still get to taste what's in the works for season 3. I'm excited mostly about the new items and the item revamps for season 3. Hopefully there won't be the same builds over and over for the AD and such anymore.

Frostweaver November 19th, 2012 5:22 PM

It's still going to be like that in the end because understandably, people head for the best and most efficient build. It'll take some time for people to find that build with the new items though. The meta will be shaken but eventually the dust will settle and the "new" meta will be standardized once again.

And by then, we wait for the next shakeup and the cycle starts anew :3
