HeartGold or SoulSilver?

So, which of these two games did you prefer?

Was it because of the version exclusives? The version mascot? Or was it based on which of the original Gold and Silver games you played?

Vote in the poll and give reasons!

curiousnathan December 16th, 2012 2:35 AM

I love both games equally...well because besides the little variations between them, they are basically the same game. If I had to pick one out of the two, I'd vote for HeartGold solely due to the fact that it's the one I bought out of the two, not to mention I grew up playing Gold as a kid.

Rainbow Arcanine December 16th, 2012 2:39 AM

I liked Heartgold better honestly :3. I've loved Lugia ever since I first set my eyes upon it in the Pokemon Movie 2000, all those years ago buut Heartgold will still be my favourite <3. Reasons? As good as Lugia is, nothing compares to the beautiful Ho-oh. The bright feathers and colouring really appeals to me, I love it's soothing battle music and the storyline behind it. Stats are great, typing, just a wonderful version mascot in general :D.

Also HG in my opinion offers better Pokemon :P. Because it has Arcanine and therefore is the best game ever. I never played the originals so I can't say anything based on that, but to sum it up Heartgold is my pick :).

Captain Gizmo December 16th, 2012 9:16 AM

I would say HeartGold because I prefer the version exclusive Pokemon for HeartGold, but SoulSilver got Lugia as the mascot. I prefer Lugia over Ho-oh. So it's kinda hard to pick lol *_*

Hikamaru December 16th, 2012 9:49 PM

SoulSilver for me, because I my brother already had HeartGold and I liked SS's version exclusives better.

Also, I like Lugia better than Ho-Oh.

Pinta77 December 16th, 2012 10:09 PM

Heart Gold because Ho-oh is better.

Sarah Morgan December 16th, 2012 10:14 PM

I was originally given Pokemon Silver for my 10th birthday, Soul Silver was sort of a homecoming for me.

Brendino December 16th, 2012 10:43 PM

I grew up playing the original Gold, so it was only natural that I migrated towards HeartGold out of the two. That, and my cousin was already planning to get SoulSilver, so I wanted to get the opposite version.

The Grubby Pup December 16th, 2012 10:57 PM

Hm. This one's tough. I like both Heartgold and Soulsilver. I end up playing Soulsilver, cuz I had Silver when I was just a lil kid...it still a tough choice, tho.

I'm gonna go with Soulsilver, tho. But that's only because I like Lugia's battle theme better than Ho-Oh. lol

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ December 17th, 2012 10:09 AM

Most of my friends went with the fruity bird, but I went for Lugia because I wanted Lugia first and I believe that Lugia is better than old fruity bird, so I purchased Pokemon Soul Silver.

Sheep December 17th, 2012 6:52 PM

I prefer HeartGold since I find Ho-Oh to be cooler than Lugia in all aspects. That and we got the awesome Growlithe in HG, which I loooove to use (as much as I love Vulpix ;;). My friend was also going with SS so I'd naturally get the other version.

Eurydice December 17th, 2012 7:00 PM

Soulsilver because I like the version exclusives better. Plus I always liked silver better than gold.

PlatinumDude December 18th, 2012 1:54 PM

I went with HeartGold mainly because I liked Ho-oh better than Lugia.

Palkia December 18th, 2012 2:06 PM

While there is barley any huge differences compared to both versions, I prefer HeartGold for one reason alone - not being forced into the whirl islands.

I hate that confusing dungeon, but with HG it's a optional area, although the bell tower was a bit irritating at times.

Karma December 18th, 2012 5:47 PM

I definitely have to say that I prefer HeartGold, but manly for the reason that I played that game first. I always liked Lugia over Ho-Oh before, but after playing through I found that I do like the fire bird a little bit more now. Another reason is that I absolutely adore Arcanine, and Growlithe was a HeartGold exclusive. But still, I enjoyed both games and they seem mostly the same to me.

rikdegraaff December 18th, 2012 7:13 PM

Heart Gold!
Because I already own the old one (Pokemon Gold) ;)

An Ho-Oh, that's imho the most beautiful pokémon.

skyluigi2 December 19th, 2012 10:59 AM

HeartGold, because I preferred its exclusives, and Ho-oh.

LAT10S December 21st, 2012 4:37 PM

HeartGold, although I like Lugia better than Ho-Oh. It just seems more elegant and pristine.

Gideon Jeremiah December 21st, 2012 4:41 PM

SoulSilver, due in no small part to Lugia.

Alexander Nicholi December 21st, 2012 5:01 PM

I played Gold first, but I picked SoulSilver, well... because "HeartGold" sounds effeminate to me. XD

I've had like three copies of SoulSilver though, and definitely prefer Lugia over Ho-Oh.

KingCarini December 21st, 2012 5:36 PM

HeartGold, for a couple of reasons. First, it's the one I bought because I grew up on Gold. Second, I like the version exclusives of HG better than those of SS. Third, I like having access to Ho-oh early on and then Lugia at Lv. 70. And lastly, I think Bellchime Trail has to be my favorite area out of every pokémon game. Awesome design for that map.

Starry Windy December 31st, 2012 11:22 PM

I picked HeartGold, because Ho-Oh flying in screen is epic!

Deceit January 2nd, 2013 12:45 AM

I have both games now, but if I had to choose one, it would be SoulSilver, since I've had some pretty good memories with the original Silver when I was a child. Having SoulSilver brought back the memories. And honestly, the main difference is the version exclusives, which I didn't really care much about, though I must say I prefer the HG ones.

Schwan January 2nd, 2013 6:30 AM

SoulSilver, because I had Silver as a kid. I also feel like I fit with the Silver colour more than Gold.

Meganium January 2nd, 2013 9:47 AM

SoulSilver hands down, not only because I played Silver first, because some Pokemon I want for my team, especially Chinchou/Lanturn, are exclusive to Soulsilver. I gotta have that Pokemon on my team, ya know? xD

mikey January 2nd, 2013 10:44 AM

I got myself HeartGold because I had Pokemon Silver long ago and wanted to try out Ho-Oh. I did enjoy myself, and I got my Lugia on 70 so it all worked out xD

pikakitten January 3rd, 2013 9:10 PM

I got Heartgold because I love Lugia but I rarely gave Ho-oh a chance, glad I did though xD

Gary0ak January 4th, 2013 9:56 AM

I played Gold first, so I got SoulSilver, I wish I could see the Ho-Oh scene on my DS Though D:

Rissa_Napier23 January 4th, 2013 11:04 AM

I chose HeartGold, because my boyfriend and I always buy the companion games. I have Diamond, and he has Pearl, I have Sapphire, and he has Ruby, and so on and so forth.

It's just a thing now, I guess. xD

TrainerTori January 4th, 2013 4:22 PM

I had silver when I was a kid... I don't even remember why - probably because my best friend had gold.
But I got soul silver because of that ^__^

PikachuAddict January 4th, 2013 5:56 PM

SoulSilver because I love Lugia and the other version exclusives.

Pillowing January 30th, 2013 5:25 AM

I use to be a Silver girl growing up. Mostly because I preferred silver jewelry and I loved Lugia.

But now as I replay HGSS, I have to say I'm a complete HG-girl now! I love Ho-oh to bits and I'm so glad I got into playing the games again!

blue January 30th, 2013 6:22 AM

Soul Silver.

I played Silver back in 2000, I prefer the name to HeartGold and I just generally prefer SS over HG.

Seth Rollins January 30th, 2013 7:54 AM

Heart Gold.

I don't know why, I choose the games randomly.

atie January 30th, 2013 1:06 PM

I had both Gold and Silver (I had first gold but after watching Pokemon2000 I wanted the Lugia and thought that I could only get Ho-oh on gold)

nowadays I like Ho-oh more because of it's type Fire-flying and what I really disliked about Lugia is that he isn't a water-flying (that was a major childhood dissapointment) even though I like the appearance of Lugia better, Ho-oh is still my favourite of those 2
so 1 point for Heartgold

the version exclusives top 5 IMO:
Arcanine>>Ninetails -HG win
Kabutops>>Omastar - SS win
Kyogre>>Groundon -HG win
Gligar/scor>>Delibird -HG win
Skarmory>>Mantine/tyke -SS win

Heartgold would be a obvious pick for me...

Treecko January 30th, 2013 4:44 PM

HeartGold because I had Gold version as a kid and the original has so many good memories. I remember I got both Gold and Silver as a First Communion gift from one of my teachers. I had to chose one and give the other to one of my brothers, so for some reason I went with Gold and so my older brother got Silver. So the original Gold has so many memories for me. PLus I like HG's version exclusives alot more.

Cerberus87 January 30th, 2013 6:08 PM

HeartGold because Ho-Oh. But I was robbed of Groudon, which is only in SoulSilver.

JohnnyJ773 February 4th, 2013 7:18 AM

I chose HeartGold becauseI had the original Gold in the past and plus Growlithe is exclusive to HeartGold.

Angelroid February 4th, 2013 10:59 AM

I went with HeartGold for the Pokemon in it.

Vei February 4th, 2013 12:40 PM

I chose Heart Gold because Ho-Oh is one of my favorite Pokemon. Even though you can get it in Soul Silver as well, I preferred how it was the featured Pokemon.

jaydezzal February 4th, 2013 3:33 PM

I prefer SoulSilver. As far as exclusives go, the only one I really like is Ninetales. But Pokemon Silver was the first game I ever played on a handheld system, so it does have the nostalgia factor.

Mark Kamill February 4th, 2013 5:23 PM

SoulSilver, for sure. The legendaries can both be caught so that doesn't effect my choice, but the fact that I bought silver back the does. And cause having Lugia on the box is prettier then Ho-oh.

KingSquirtle February 6th, 2013 6:34 AM

heartgold. i like ho-oh. and i played it as a kid (the original gold lol) so i just felt it would make for a more nostalgic experience. though i'm pissed i couldn't get my teddiursa!! lol

Caelus February 8th, 2013 11:41 PM

I picked Heartgold just because its the first one and even though I've never played Soulsilver I did play Silver and I thought catching Ho-oh before Lugia made a little more sense, plus I didn't have to train it much since it was at level 70 when I found it.

Otherwise I don't see a whole lot of differences between the two.

RenegadeClyde February 9th, 2013 8:42 AM

I would prefer HeartGold. The first reason to choose it would probaly be the exclusives. Arcanine/Rapidash are my favorite pokémon, and Heartgold has Arcanine, along with other awesome pokémons such as Gligar/Gliscor, Phanpy/Donphan and Mankey/Primeape (I like 'em a bit.) But the choice is hard when you look at Lugia (The scene before battling him is fantastic and the music is insane.) Teddiursa/Ursaring and Skarmory in Soulsilver.
