Did you get rid of your Pikachu in Yellow?

Yeah, just like the thread title says, did you get rid of your Pikachu in Yellow version? Which was a gift from Prof. Oak. Did you get rid of it because it was not really good or you trained it and it is in your team?

Personally, I did not get rid of it and its in my team because I always have a special feeling with the starters.

The_Consumer December 16th, 2012 9:36 AM

No, I didn't but it wasn't my strongest Pokemon and it certainly didn't get prioritising. Alakazam was my stronghold.

Bounsweet December 16th, 2012 10:04 AM

I never get rid of my starters and Pikachu was included. The biggest part of Yellow Version was Pikachu's "follow me" feature too, which was another reason! It does kind of suck how you can't evolve it, but I never had a problem beating the game with it.

Sassy Milkshake December 16th, 2012 10:38 AM

That was the game where I really went all out to be Ash. So I kept Pikachu, trained the 3 starters and caught myself a Snorlax and a Muk. I felt so special. But yeah I kept Pikachu.

Kikaito plush December 16th, 2012 10:58 AM

my sister stole it, evolved it and put it back on I put it in the pc as something happened to it.

vaporeon7 December 17th, 2012 2:52 AM

I didn't. I decided to be like Ash and use the starters as well as a Snorlax and Lapras.

Synerjee December 17th, 2012 6:10 AM

I kept the Pikachu. I always keep my starter no matter what, and that Pikachu wasn't an exception. To me, ditching Pokemon I trained for such a long time seems cruel and a waste. Oh, and I always develop bonds with the Pokemon I train, especially my starters.

Perriechu December 17th, 2012 8:24 AM

I remember during one of my run through's of Yellow that I got rid of Pikachu because the Nidoran I was training at the time was simply so much better. But then half way through I regretted it and brought him back in. Since then I guess I've never replaced him. :D

Correspondence December 17th, 2012 8:58 AM

I kept it because i really never abandon my starter. Also its the only pokemon that had the 'follow me' feature so it also made me keep it.

On a side note:Yay for 300th post!

Sarah Morgan December 17th, 2012 9:07 AM

I always put Pikachu away lol.

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ December 17th, 2012 11:23 AM

As much as I don't like Pikachu, I never got rid of it in my party because I never get rid of my starter Pokemon during in game playing. I also kept it because I liked the idea that Pikachu followed me and I found that to be cute.

:t354:TG

Turboblaze December 17th, 2012 12:50 PM

I've done it once before but due to the lack of decent electric Pokemon, I kinda screwed myself.

macboycolor December 21st, 2012 6:00 AM

I didn't and i noticed with trading if you get another pikachu that one will follow you too. But only one at a time.

Brendino December 21st, 2012 8:29 PM

I kept it around until I was able to get Zapdos, and then it just sat in the box after that. Even back then I didn't much care for Electric-types, so I saw no use keeping two on my team, when Zapdos was clearly stronger.

blue December 22nd, 2012 1:25 PM

Not when I played it, I probably would now however.

giradialkia December 22nd, 2012 6:09 PM

Oh, absolutely not. I've only ever had one serious playthrough of Yellow, and in it I had the baddest-ass and most clichéd team possible. (for some reason I deleted it, started again, and never finished. :( )
If I were to play through it again today, I'd still use the Pikachu. That's literally all Yellow has going for it, otherwise. :P

I approve of this message.

But seriously, I didn't even know it was an option. However, for me, Yellow was the pretend to be Ash game, and like a few other people here, I mimicked his team that he had at the time (AND the moves, which were usually all weak attacks). Let's just say it wasn't a very efficient team.

I always liked how you could see his moods. I've read a newer Pokemon game lets Pokemon follow you outside the ball, but does it let you see their moods? Or is that simply too many sprites they'd have to create?

Kotowari December 23rd, 2012 5:49 AM

HG/SS let you see the mood of the pokémon with a text baloon popping up above their heads showing their expression (like a heart, or a happy/sad face) and in the text box on the bottom of the screen it tells you more about the Pokémon (action or expression).

But anyways, I didn't deposit Pikachu, or at least not for very long. Whenever I put it back into my team, it was annoyed/angry with me and that made me feel very bad. :<

ThatIceman December 23rd, 2012 5:57 AM

yes i did get rid of my pikachu reason : it was WEAK O-0 and i hate weak pokemons O_O

KarosNB December 25th, 2012 4:19 PM

Nah, just let it sit in the box, like ThatIceman said, it was weak.

pikakitten December 26th, 2012 2:49 AM

Sure he's weak but here's quote many of you might love
"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites." Karen of Johto's Elite Four
I never forget this when I play, I don't go all crazy even though I am sort of a competitive battler, when I had Pikachu (which I still did use all of Yellow 2 times) I still destroyed everyone using mostly Pikachu. He was so cute and whether you like it or not, strong.

~Sincerely
PikakittenX, Pika(kitten) for a reason

metal64meli December 26th, 2012 12:44 PM

I traded it to Blue and evolved to Raichu and traded back to yellow, I hated the fact I couldn't evolve that pikachu :B

PhoenixWright77 December 26th, 2012 3:07 PM

I never liked Pikachu so I just stuffed him into my PC Box! Never to be seen or loved ever again!

DelightedTurk December 26th, 2012 4:47 PM

How could I have boxed that cute little electric mouse? It was just so fun to have it follow you everywhere, and despite it being weaker than my incredible Nidoqueen, it was still my second most used. Now that I think of it, I'd love a Yellow remake so much!

rikdegraaff December 28th, 2012 11:34 PM

I kept Pikachu always in my team.
The only thing I never understood, was why it never wanted to evolve to a Raichu...

That last thing was a bigdissapointment.

Dartht33bagger January 1st, 2013 6:21 PM

I never got rid of him. I would always trade him to my red or blue, evolve him, and trade him back to Yellow. He doesn't follow you at that point though.

Mama-Mamo January 1st, 2013 10:12 PM

Of course I kept him!! It was the only Pokemon that I would keep as a part of my party that was intentionally unevolved. I thought he added a certain flare and the little pictures when you talked to him were just so adorable!! *o*

KantoSwag January 1st, 2013 10:23 PM

Of course not, how else would I have gotten my special Pichu in Gold?

Mr. Magius January 1st, 2013 11:47 PM

For me, Yellow was an excuse to use Pikachu as it would be as if I was simply playing Red or Blue without all the extra Pika-features! Pikachu was actually good addition to my team because it was one of the most decent Electric-types available throughout the game. Plus, I don't really give a damn how technically strong a Pokémon is.

Schwan January 2nd, 2013 6:20 AM

I don't, I just use him and the three starters and although I don't like Blastoise/Charizard, I think they're fun to use in the first generation.

Skylands January 3rd, 2013 5:03 PM

I got curious when I was younger and tried to get rid of Pikachu in Yellow two different ways. One being to release it via PC Box, and two, using a Thunder Stone to evolve into Raichu. Neither attempts worked. I think Game Freak programmed the game so that it is impossible (without hacking) to throw out Pikachu.

TheSecondComingOfCaterpie January 6th, 2013 5:58 PM

Pikachu was my favorite feature in that game. There's no way I'm playing without him.

Deceit January 6th, 2013 9:35 PM

I loved Pikachu in that game. Having it follow me around was cool, and I also thought it gained a special boost in yellow for some reason. Anyway, Pikachu was a must for me in that game, and I intend to keep him if I ever play through Yellow again.

MichaelSK16 January 6th, 2013 10:40 PM

I kinda felt obliged to keep mine. I'd have felt dirty if I released it.

SamuJake January 6th, 2013 10:43 PM

Nope, I kept Pikachu the whole time, in fact he was one of my main Pokemon.

Raczack January 7th, 2013 7:03 AM

Nope, it was my excuse to be Ash. After that first run through yeah, he might have magically vanished the moment I got Jolteon or something else evolved, but he was the reason I got the game in the first place...

@ThatIceMan and KarosNB: Wow, you don't like Pokemon. :p Your just like Silver (game) from HG,SS,S,G,C you only want to win and that's all. So, It's weak, for you, but he was the reason I had the 6th badge (Sabrina). Sabrina completely KO'ed my team when I was in the middle of Yellow, Venusaur,Charizard,Watortle and guess who KO'ed her? Pikachu, so no, I didn't release or put him in PC. You can put him in PC, but calling him weak? (Magikarp may be weak at first, but when he evolves, you'll regret what you said.)

@EVERYONE (Not everyone but some): Haha, guys. That's a game, so It's basically Red not Ash :P. But something interesting in Yellow is that you CAN be Ash, catch his Pokemons and all. Something good in Yellow too is that they put Jesse and James.

The Amazing Justin January 28th, 2013 1:30 AM

I always kept Pikachu. I didn't want it to be misguided or unloved.

doeboy9 February 2nd, 2013 6:08 PM

Me and my friend had this genius idea to trade each others Pikachus to each other, evolve it and trade it back. We felt stupid when it wouldn't follow us around anymore... So i guess in a way I did get rid of it.

dragonfly_dust February 5th, 2013 8:57 PM

BLASPHEMY! How dare anyone who had Yellow think about getting rid of Pikachu?!

Treecko February 6th, 2013 10:51 AM

Nope never did. Whenever I played Yellow, I felt like Ash and so I thought it was wrong to ditch Pikachu and felt obligated to keep it with me the whole time.

Sheep February 8th, 2013 6:31 PM

Nope, I kept Pikachu! It was pretty cool to me how he would follow me around and let me interact with him, plus sending him into battle without a Pokeball was awesome when I was 9. As often as he fainted I still found it worthwhile to keep him. <3;

Exact same reason why I never got rid of mine. It's Yellow version after all.

Caelus February 10th, 2013 9:29 PM

I always use my starter Pokemon no matter what so I never had an urge to get rid of Pikachu.

It never was the focal point of my team though, since I had the other starters and Mew on my team.

obiwan362 February 11th, 2013 1:39 PM

Kind of a two fold reasoning here:
1: I always keep my starters. ALWAYS.
2: It just seemed wrong in a game that had a main difference of letting you have Pikachu as a starter and follow you around to just get rid of him. Nope, I let him be a valuable asset to my team.

alisaie February 14th, 2013 3:07 PM

No. If I didn't want Pikachu on my team I would have played Blue or Red instead. But I kept Pikachu on my team in the time I did play some Yellow. Considering picking it up again sometime and maybe actually finish the game.

Bounce February 14th, 2013 7:45 PM

No matter how over-leveled it had to be to kill anything, I kept it just because it's the mascot of Pokemon Yellow.. it wouldn't really be Pokemon Yellow without the little guy following you everywhere.

Sonikkts February 14th, 2013 10:30 PM

Pikachu is great, but his defensive stats can be a burden. Annoying you can't evolve him, but it's understandable. I always use him though.

Ycia February 15th, 2013 3:51 PM

Hmm.. At that time I don't know Pokemon's stat difference lol.. So leaving my Pikachus behind is a nono. As for the topic's subject, my Sister and I traded Pikachu to Crystal? or Blue?.. I don't remember.. But After I got Pikachu back, it became angry >:o

Al3x February 16th, 2013 4:43 PM

http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p610/awesome1234567890/YellowTeam_zps014bdbda.jpg

Enough said. Pikachu is at the top. :)

Guest123_x1 February 18th, 2013 9:08 PM

On every playthrough of Yellow, I almost always kept Pikachu in my party, only depositing it a few times, to see how he would react. I liked the idea of Pikachu following me from behind in the overworld. After all, Yellow's storyline was loosely based off the anime, and what not. (I always named the playing character ASH and on my first (near-full) playthrough, spoiled Pikachu to the point where it got to level 65 by the time I faced the final gym.)

Ravenfreak February 19th, 2013 12:26 PM

Technically you can't get rid of it, if you try to release it into the wild the game won't allow you to do so. :P However I always have Pikachu in my party, it just looks strange not seeing Pikachu following Red around. :V

Wild_Squirtle February 21st, 2013 11:42 AM

I kept it simply because he follows you :D plus Pikachu is still one of my strongest

mikey February 24th, 2013 2:48 PM

I always keep my Pikachu when playing through Yellow Version. I feel weird if I box it. He comes in handy, so why deposit him?

pallando February 25th, 2013 10:26 AM

I always kept it until recently. I decided to deposit it and take Zapdos instead, I wouldn't do that again though because as many stated, it's just great if Pikachu follows you, and he's the starter after all. So if I decide to start the game new, I'll keep it again.

Sydian February 27th, 2013 11:21 PM

Despite it being my least favorite Pokemon, I didn't get rid of it. Maybe because I want something following me around, lol. I like being stalked wait what?!

But yeah, I kept it...I'm too nice. I should ditch it next time I play Yellow haha.

Diversion February 28th, 2013 1:20 AM

I never finished Yellow,
but I have to say I didn't. It wasn't really useless, in fact it was useful.
The more it leveled up, the more useful it can be.
I only played the game until Blaine, yet Pikachu was useful (except against brock.).

sab February 28th, 2013 9:22 AM

How could I get rid of it? The whole thing that made that game special was the fact that pikachu was there following you. If I got rid of it, I'd be ruining a cool game mechanic.

TouchemonLearner March 3rd, 2013 10:32 AM

I didn't get rid of it the first time I played, but then I attempted the Nuzlocke challenge and it died early on, shortly after that I game-over'ed.

vovillia March 6th, 2013 2:36 PM

I kept him, I like the unique feature of him follow you around and being able to interact with him too, I'm glad Game Freak brought that back for a few other Pokemon games :D

Zorogami March 14th, 2013 1:28 PM

The first 50 times i played the game i didn't, but a few years back when i replayed the game i just felt like ditching Pikachu for once...very big mistake :(

B-L-A-Z-E March 14th, 2013 5:01 PM

I enjoyed having Pikachu follow me around too much so there was never a time when I didn't have it with me.

Krazoa March 17th, 2013 2:43 PM

I kept the pikachu because I loved it when he followed me everywhere C: It made me feel less alone in those caves xD

Sirfetch’d March 19th, 2013 4:09 PM

I always kept mine and used it the whole game. It is what made Yellow so unique.

Magykx March 19th, 2013 4:19 PM

I always kept Pikachu. I don't think it clicked to me that I didn't have to keep it, in all honesty.

Marina A. Silver March 19th, 2013 4:30 PM

I never got rid of my Pikachu it wasn't my strongest but it was the one of my top five and I loved how it followed me and the cute expression it would make when you interacted with it.

Taemin March 19th, 2013 4:53 PM

I never did. Once I beat Yellow, I switched my Pikachu over to other versions and restarted my file, but I never got it ride of it prior to the hall of fame.

Aethestode March 24th, 2013 7:40 AM

Nope, it stayed including all my starters.

Brendonwii March 27th, 2013 3:13 AM

Yes, I bought it when I was child when I wanted to learn Japanese. (I didn't start learning Japanese for several years later)
I don't see what was so special about it, I'd rather play Japanese Blue. I might replay Pokemon Green soon however. :/

mew² March 28th, 2013 8:20 PM

I kept mine, although as a child I felt it was always mean and horrible if you released Pokemon. d:

Midnight-Umbreon March 31st, 2013 12:43 AM

No way, I had yellow as a kid and it was the little stalker pikachu which made me into the pokemon fan I am today! =^.^= sadly my gameboy and yellow got given away by accident in a clear out but I got a new gameboy and game. And I'm keeping pikachu with me! I called him Sparky!!!

PichuRules4ever April 6th, 2013 8:16 PM

No, I never gave up my Pikachu. I never put away my starters, I always keep them in my team. I also kept it because I liked how it stalked followed you around everywhere which was pretty cool. :chu: :t025:

Gligar April 7th, 2013 3:22 AM

I never played pokemon yellow unfortunately......

myokan April 7th, 2013 8:26 AM

I never did. When I first got the game I was like ":O Pokemon FOLLOWING YOU? Thats the best" so I never did.

Golden Warrior April 7th, 2013 8:43 AM

Pokemon Yellow was my first Pokemon game, and incidentally made Pikachu my favorite Pokemon, having one fallow me was sweet, I have no memory of getting rid of him at all. In my party 24/7!

Also, it made me get used to the idea of Pokemon fallowing me, making other games disappoint me. Oops. XD

Meganium April 7th, 2013 6:05 PM

I kept him, even though I couldn't evolve him to a Raichu. Had to because I wanted a Vaporeon instead of a Jolteon for my choice of water-type.

Rai April 7th, 2013 6:28 PM

Yes! I loved my Pikachu in Yellow, even though I wish I could have evolved it.

It was the first pokemon I ever got to Lvl 100 :3

Kiriyuuki Kasuna April 9th, 2013 2:35 PM

Nope, I couldn't, I just love my little rodent too much <3

Also Pikachu is badass xD

#18 April 14th, 2013 5:25 PM

No, I <3 Pikachu :3 He's my favorite next to Charmander.

JordieBo May 12th, 2013 2:59 PM

I didn't get rid of him, but I did trade him to my Pokémon Blue so I could evolve it and trade it back! Only problem is he stopped following me :(

JawDane June 1st, 2013 5:06 AM

Come on now, it's Pikachu. I remember trying to be like Ash the best I could at that age (in games).

Sasuke Uchiha June 6th, 2013 4:06 PM

I kept,It I mean Who Doesn't Want To Be Like Ash

SubVirus June 6th, 2013 5:12 PM

I started with red version and each time i played that one i always sought after a pikachu in Viridian Forest. That being said. I more times than not kept my Pikachu in Yellow version.
Until recently i've always had an issue with boxing starters.

SteveTaylor June 9th, 2013 8:33 AM

How could I? It's Pikachu.

PIKACHU.

Also, if anyone out there evolved it into Raichu, you're worse than those who abanded their Pikachu.

hisalness56 June 9th, 2013 7:29 PM

I don't seem to recall boxing my Pikachu. I just never really used it. I almost always caught a Nidoran Male before Brock and had a Nidoking before I faced Misty fully loaded with Thrash (which used to be so much better before they changed the turns until confusion) and then I would get the RBG starters and Pikachu would start to lag behind in levels by Lt. Surge... always kept him in the party though

DodoScott June 19th, 2013 1:50 PM

I never knew I could xD

Even if I did, nope. Pikachu is my favourite electric mouse.

zroc June 20th, 2013 5:47 AM

I never got rid of mine, i couldn't pikachu is my favorite pokemon. Pikachu was the first pokemon i got to Lv 100 and a pokemon i try to have in my party in every game.

CloysterOyster June 20th, 2013 2:20 PM

I never did. Who'd have no heart to do so? :/

Clawvile July 7th, 2013 8:51 AM

Well, for starters they're not many Generation I electric types that are easily findable. I don't like getting rid of my starters. Yet the Pikachu made good uses in my gameplay of Yellow.

Dragooncroft July 7th, 2013 10:36 AM

What I did was I placed it in my N64 Color Box in Stadium, deleted my old data, put the Pikachu back on my party from the N64 box and was able to then evolve it to a Raichu! Then in the end, I had both a following Pikachu AND a Raichu. I felt that the 'following Pikachu' feature was a unique feature of the game and wanted to keep that in tact. :)

Rizardon July 8th, 2013 4:48 AM

Nah, I've never removed Pikachu from my party. To me, he's a bro and will always be.

Kyrul July 8th, 2013 7:34 AM

Never! The sole purpose of buying Yellow is to watch that cute little PIkachu follow you around. Throwing it out is just like buying Blue or Red version all over again.

Wuddupz July 10th, 2013 7:42 PM

Yeah I usually get rid of my starters. I like changing around my team and getting different pokemon than the usual. I didn't really have a problem with not evolving Pikachu, it's just that Pikachu is boring. I would much rather have a Jolteon, Electabuzz, Magnemite, etc...

Phoenixdown0 July 10th, 2013 8:32 PM

When i was a child we had a Pokemon yellow copy along with a Pokemon red, while Pokemon yellow was the first one I did play I always consider Pokemon Red as my first game played. I played yellow as it came out and I was maybe 3 at that time so I ended up being trapped at the first plot wall of the game and never played Pokemon again til I was 5 and that was when I played Pokemon red for the first time. I picked up that old copy I have of the game a hand full of years ago and saw my Pikachu was level 40 because I would spend my time as a young preschooler killing lvl 3 Rattas.

garchomp47 July 29th, 2013 9:00 PM

i didn t abadoned it becouse it s starter and i must trainbit to get.... SURFING pikachu

.:batto:. July 29th, 2013 10:19 PM

I did eventually. Once i had Pokemon Silver i transferred straight away. I love the old games. So majestic.

tnfsf11 July 30th, 2013 2:03 PM

I've only played yellow for a little while but I think I'd never leave him even if he sucked...
I guess because it looked cool following me everywhere, it was the only poke who could do that since there wasn't an overworld sprite for every Pokémon like in gen 4 & afterwards...

Master Xemnas July 30th, 2013 3:33 PM

NO, i didn't! I love when Pikachu follows me,if i wan't to get rid of it, i would buy pokemon Red or Blue.

KorpiklaaniVodka July 31st, 2013 7:05 AM

In some playthroughs, I did box Pikachu since he's just too weak. However, I sometimes do keep it because I want to be like Ash.

«Chuckles» August 3rd, 2013 10:57 PM

No, as alot of people did I played as Ash Ketchum and caught every Pokemon Ash caught, I progressed really slowly, especially when I reenacted the Pokemon Battle between 2 metapods... my childhood was fun
