I trained my Pikachu to level 100 and then got surf on Pokémon stadium the mini game is fun :D
Well, I'm playing through my Pokemon Yellow again right now and no I didn't get rid of it because I keep getting so lucky with it and getting one-hit ko's with it. It's a powerhouse but I don't think that'll last for long. We'll see! :D
I got rid of him, he's just too weak. Even Thunder didn't do any significant damage.
He's a lot better in GSC since he holds a Light Ball once you trade him to the newer games. |
Since I was really young then, I thought I had to keep him, even though I did only play it for about 1 hour one day at my friend's house. I just thought you had to keep Pikachu, or it was game over. o.o
I traded mine to the Blue version and evolve it!
It was one of my power house back in the days, before getting to know of Electabuzz's existent. lol |
Look at this face

EDIT: Can you see the face? Because I can't. What I am trying to say is that Pikachu is awesome. |
100 keeps, woo! I kept him too simply because at the time I didn't know you could box things paha. The first six Pokémon I caught were the ones I was stuck with - it was lucky I found one for each HM or I'd have been completely stuck. Pikachu is one that I'd quite like to try using properly some time now that I know more about Pokémon and the following animation is adorable, so I probably would keep him in my team if I was to play again but I don't think I'd be too happy about the no evolution concept.
No. I'm actually not that fond of Pikachu but I reeeeally liked how he looked walking behind you! So cute (´ω` ) I loved checking up on him every now and then~
I never got rid of it. I always liked how Pikachu kept walking behind you all the time, and when I discovered you could box him and he disappeared I just kept missing it, so it was in my team all the time, yet was the weakest Pokémon of the team.
I put it away in my PC during my third gym battle, but I later got it back because it was the strongest Pokémon I had at that time. Just like most of you, I was kind of upset that I couldn't evolve it into a Raichu. I loved it when it was following me around, though, because it was very cute to see that little creature right beside me. n__n Also, it was fun to see the expressions on its face when you interacted with it.
I thought I couldn't get rid of it.
But I used it as a lead of my team. It's not the best lead but it's a good lead in my opinion. |
Outside of trading or a glitch, I don't think you CAN truly get rid of the Pikachu. Sure, you can store it in the PC, but you can't release it and can't evolve it.
I always kept Pikachu because it was awesome :D Obviously it wasn't the strongest electric type in the game but, like many others here, I never PC my starters (apart from when I'm playing different challenges). Plus the fact it followed me around simply made it a keeper in my opinion.
No. If I didn't want Pikachu in my party I would have played Red or Blue. But since I was playing Yellow then Pikachu was definitely going to be a staple on my team from the beginning.
Never got rid of it.
As several people in this thread said already, I usually keep my starters, as they are a somewhat 'special' Pokémon to the game (to me at least). I never see the Pokémon games as a strategic battle game only, I mostly like the 'artistic' aspects of it. The design, the music, basically what goes on in your head for the most part; really "getting into the game", the story, the feeling of being a trainer going on a huge adventure. Therefore I also care a lot about the Pokémon I use, despite from judging them on their strenght. |
The fact that the starting Pikachu could never evolve into Raichu in Yellow severely hampered its usage. Not to mention you could get the starters anyways and they become better than Pikachu.
Actually I used him like a normal Pokemon but only because I was playing as Ash and I wanted to emulate his team lol. I liked my Pikachu I just wish I still had Yellow version so he could walk behind me. Ah the memories.
I haven't ever abandoned a starter in any Pokemon game through the story mode.
I didn't get rid of Pikachu at all simply because I really enjoyed the concept of being able to have a Pokémon traveling behind you, and because I thought the expressions it had offered were hilarious.
No, I didn't get rid of Pikachu. I always grow really attached to my starter (I don't even like to box it temporarily, if I can help it), so I never even considered getting rid of my Pikachu in Yellow. Also, I liked talking to Pikachu, having it follow me, etc., and it would have been a shame to lose access to those features because I traded it away, boxed it, etc.
I think my Yellow Version Pikachu knows Surf (from Stadium), so it's more versatile than the average RBY Pikachu. Of course, its stats are still pretty weak, but for in-game, how much does that really matter, anyway? |
As some other people have posted, I emulated Ash's team from the anime. I made sure to have Pidgeotto and Butterfree before I got to Brock. Only exception was that I let all the 3 starters evolve to final form.
I traded with my cousin and we stoned our Pikachus for each other then trade back.
I was a kid back then and got annoyed the already-Raichu stopped following me behind. |
I'm playing it right now and nope, I didn't get rid of it. It's not extremely strong, but it's fun to have it follow you around.
The game was based around Pikachu so why would I get rid of him? Sure he wasn't the best but he was adorable and made for a valuable team member :D
Yellow is a novelty game, I would never get rid of the precious Pikachu!
Anyone who says pikachu was weak is wrong.
I didn't had any problem keeping him. It would always send team rocket blasting off with one attack every pokemon. And even lorelei's pokemon didn't stand a chance against pikachu if u train him to at least lv. 70. |
Pikachu is kind of the entire main point of Yellow, isn't it? I mean, the redone sprites are nice and all, but the game was basically a beta-testing of the would-be Friendship System.
That said, I did try to get rid of the critter once... only to instantly put him back in my team. I was already attached to it. |
No, I didn't I love my pikachu, seriously, why would you it is your starter and It looses happyness if traded or boxed.
Yes, I have get rid of that pain in the you know what..... Hated training it, just hating it today too.
nah bc i used it so much, it was a high level so i thought, what the hell why not keep it?
i put pika aside for jolteon
Yes, I got rid of my Pikachu. Only because I thought it would be rebellious and also I'm not a fan of Pikachu so I don't really care for it.
Back in the days when I was a kid I obviously kept Pikachu. Didn't even think about getting rid of him.
The last time I played I didn't use him though. I never checked his stats, but I never thought Pikachu was a great Pokémon. It's not very interesting either. Last time I played yellow (that was 2 years ago) I had the easiest playthrough of all time. Probably because for the majority of the game I only kept 3 Pokémon in my team. That did a huge difference. I finished the game with this team: Tentacruel (lvl 44) Haunter (lvl 46) Zapdos (lvl 57) Dugtrio (lvl42) Charizard (lvl 38) Farfetch'd (lvl 36) Actually I didn't even use Dugtrio, Charizard or Farfetch'd for the Top 4 etc. because Tentacruel, Haunter and Zapdos did everything on their own. If I would play yellow edition again I would get rid of Pikachu at the latest after beating Misty. -- Matt |
Kept Pikachu, OMFG felt like ash so much
Pikachu Is my second favorite Pokemon So yeah I kept him, AND It is a good pokemon Because of its high Speed :)
I never got deposited my beloved Sparky! It tottled along behind me from pallet town all the way through the elite four, and it did a pretty good job too! I always used to feel really bad if it got poisoned or burnt cuz it's poor little face looked so sad! My fave expression it did was when it had a flowerpot on its head.
I went through once and evolved it into Raichu but regretted it and started over. In the end I had a level 93 Pikachu
Get rid of Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow? No way, when the game came out I was in grade 5, my life was all Pokemon and Pika Pika. I kept him around, made me feel like I was playing the anime.
Why would you play Yellow as opposed to Red/Blue if you're gonna ditch Pikachu?
I did not, I was blinded by the fanboyism at the time. However I still usually have a pikachu on my team, it is a rather good electric type pokemon in my opinion.
I haven't played it in a long while, but since having Pikachu as the starter is kind of the whole point of Yellow version... no, I didn't.
I do wish they'd let you evolve it, though. Nothing against Pikachu, but I prefer Raichu, just based on design alone. |
No releasing from me. Closest was when trading to GSC for a Light Ball.
(opinion) New Game > walk with perma fainted Pikachu > release Pikachu Recall a few plays of having Pika stuffed in the PC most th time. Sounded great going in LOL. Quote:
I did temporarily trade mine to Red to evolve him into a Raichu, but I never got rid of him.
I don't get rid of all my starters, Pikachu included. I don't know why. Maybe because it was my tradition ever since to keep my starter on my team.
Trained him to level 17 I think... My butterfree was my main pokemon...
In one file I traded my Pikachu to my Blue Version and used a Thunder Stone to get a Raichu.
I regretted the decision for the rest of the game :( |
I would never get rid of Pikachu nor any of the free starters back in RBY. They're pretty good Pokemon for the beginning of the game; with all that training, they become the powerhouse of my team.
The whole point behind me playing Yellow as opposed to Red or Blue was to have Pikachu from the very start of the game. (Also, easy way to get Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.) So Pikachu stuck around and is currently the strongest member on my team.
I remember always keeping Pikachu as my main pokemon. (Same as in X now)
I never put it in the box because I was afraid it would hate me, I thought Typhlosion would do the same thing in Crystal without realizing that the starters after Yellow didn't change happiness by being put in the pc. I actually stopped playing Yellow for over 10 years then realizing I didn't have a good team with Pikachu as my starter traded over a Seel and Kadabra from Crystal and those became my starters, Pikachu got pushed to the back but I kept in the party since I had some left over spots.
No, I didn't get rid of it, but I didn't use it throughout the whole game.
I normally think of my first pokemon as my best friend throughout the game, and its often my best pokemon. But, honestly, Pikachu was the worst! With its inability to evolve, that makes it even worse... I gave him up once I got another pokemon.
I tried to get rid of Pikachu two times, if you count evolving it. Both times I felt horrible, because the game was based so close to the anime, and I tend to build bonds with my starters.
(Plus, I also lost the fun of leaving Pikachu on the other side of a ledge and watching it become confused.) |
Didn't have Pokémon Yellow, but a friend did. He had a Pikachu that he wanted to evolve so he traded it to me and I evolved it. Then I traded it back and for some reason his game file corrupted...O.o
No I always kept my Pikachu with me in Yellow every time I played it.
What kind of cruel person would get rid of a Pokemon following them! That's mean, I had to keep the little guy.
NEVAH!! I always kept my pikachu. I was already watching anime at that point, so I was trying to be like ash. (But Red is better than Ash... and Gold is better than Red)
I've always kept my Pikachu, regardless if I trained it or now.
But now, I'm doing a YouTube Rainbow Challenge, and I am uncertain if I should keep Pikachu or not. I want Ninetales. Ughhhhhh!!! |
It was in the spirit of the game for me to keep Pikachu, so I did. Regardless of its sub par stats.
I kept him.
I played this game as Ash, and that whas awesome!!! |
I've never released that Pikachu. Ever. I loved the "follow me" aspect and felt it was vital to the game itself. I was so addicted to the anime, too; I tried my best to play as Ash and acquire the same kinds of Pokemon - Starters, Butterfree, Pikachu, Pidgeot.
I honestly thought Pokemon Yellow wouldn't allow you to release it. |
Unless I'm doing a challenge out of boredom(I don't do those anymore now), I keep my starter. I mean, it's your first pokemon, partner and dumping it in the PC feels so wrong especially when you end up relying on it a lot early in the game. It was really hard in Yellow to use my Pikachu because it couldn't evolve, but letting it learn Reflect, Light Screen, Double Team, and taking a risk with Thunder really helped it bit since the battle system was so limited (and glitchy) back then.
I don't think I've ever played through Yellow without Pikachu. If I didn't want to use a Pikachu I was just pick up Red or Blue xD
What type of evil person would get rid of that Pikachu...? I loved that little guy, and he definitely helped me through Yellow. I mean, without Pikachu, it's basically RGB but with 3 starters.
I dumped it in the PC 0W0
It wasnt much use to me, as its too vulnerable to almost any attack :P Low def, low stats...o.o |
Pikachu was my first Pokemon, and couldn't just box my first one.
...so no I didn't. |
Pikachu was literally the highlight of yellow, O_O I can't imagine playing it without pikachu.
I don't even recall him being all that weak either. |
I did deposit Pikachu into the PC a few times but never released it. I couldn't do that, I never usually traded so I didn't care about the Raichu part and Pikachu could always hold his own pretty well. Not to mention one of the game's mechanics is centered around him and he's Yellow Version's mascot. I just couldn't stand to be cruel I guess.
