Did you nickname your starter?

Hey! I want to know who nicknamed their starter pokemon.
I nicknamed my turtwig twiggy, i nicked my bulbasaur Black, And my torchick was uhh... Torchick XD.

Hooh January 5th, 2013 6:07 PM

Never did, I was dumb little child and didn't care about nicknames.

pikakitten January 5th, 2013 6:10 PM

Sinnoh: Turtwig, Twiggy xD

Johto: First time, Cyndaquil: Blaze; Second, Chikorita: Brittany

Seki January 5th, 2013 6:34 PM

I never really nickname my Pokemon, because I am bad in this kind of things.

PikachuAddict January 5th, 2013 7:41 PM

I usually nickname my starter. In the FireRed I just nicknamed my Bulbasaur Bulbasir. My Cyndaquil is Flame.

curiousnathan January 5th, 2013 8:44 PM

Nope, I hardly ever nickname my Pokemon; so the starters I chose in each region aren't exceptions.

Rainbow Arcanine January 5th, 2013 9:46 PM

I did <3, I love giving my Pokemon nicknames that are cute and simple :3. If I remember correctly, I called my Turtwig Basil and my Totodile Jaws <33.

Hikamaru January 5th, 2013 9:48 PM

No, I always tend to never nickname my team and my starter is no exception.

Brendino January 5th, 2013 10:16 PM

Yes, in Platinum my Piplup was nicknamed Czar, and my Cyndaquil was nicknamed Ty (both names given with their final evolution in mind).

SoraTheTruth January 5th, 2013 11:32 PM

i nicknamed my Chimchar SausageBun

alisaie January 5th, 2013 11:50 PM

Infernape - Razu. Named it after a friend of mine
Empoleon - Genis. named it after a character in Tales of Symphonia
Torterra - Tiny. Named it that because... well Oxymoron or whatever.
Feraligatr - Cooly. For Nostaglia.

Never got a Typhosion or Meganium as starters for this generation. Or at least as my very first Pokemon.

Kikaito plush January 6th, 2013 9:31 AM

I named my chikorita Chikentika for the heck of it
I named Turtwig Ben after a friend

Deceit January 6th, 2013 3:26 PM

I only nickname starters if I already have an idea for the name, or I am going to use it in game. If not, I usually just give it its normal name.

Mama-Mamo January 6th, 2013 3:58 PM

I nickname during my play through of games. (:

My starter in HeartGold was a Chikorita named Mint. ^_^

CourageHound January 6th, 2013 5:12 PM

I always name my starter(all of my pokemon really), it feels right that way. I named my chimchar Cinder.

Rivvon January 6th, 2013 6:30 PM

Pengu the Piplup, because penguins.
And Cutey the Chikorita, because that's what I named my Chikorita in Crystal!

Seth Rollins January 7th, 2013 10:52 AM

No. I never nickname my Pokemons, only Pikachu, if I get one I nickname him Pika xD.

Miss Anne Thrope January 12th, 2013 5:50 PM

I named my Totodile Torrent.

Bounsweet January 12th, 2013 5:56 PM

I never ever used to name my Pokemon, but now I'm obsessed with nicknames! They have to have them, even if they're the dumbest most boring names you can imagine.

I haven't played through any Gen IV games in quite a while (though I want to do Diamond Version really soon), where I'll definitely pick Piplup and perhaps name it... Sashimi? I named my Samurott that in Gen V and loved it, it goes excellent with most Water-types cx

In HGSS I always pick Chikorita, and I almost always end up nicknaming it the stereotypical Sakura, which is perfect for Meganium!

Sweets Witch January 12th, 2013 8:40 PM

In 2nd gen my Totodile was (and will always be) Crocogator, but I could never really come up with anything good enough for the others.

Starry Windy January 13th, 2013 12:57 AM

I nicknamed my Chimchar as 'Charter', and for Chikorita I give it 'Megaleaf'.

Imperator161 January 13th, 2013 5:15 PM

I typically nickname all of my Pokemon (with a few exceptions, like Pokemon I'm going to trade to other people or don't care about at all). I named my starter after my trainer name, as I have done in every generation thus far.

KingSquirtle February 6th, 2013 6:48 AM

i nicknamed my piplup mac (macaroni penguin like empoleon) and totodile muldile (mul being korean for water and dile... well crocodile lol)

skyluigi2 February 6th, 2013 8:11 AM

Yep! I named my Piplup Pengi. It was the first Pokemon I ever got to Level 100! :)

GoldXD February 8th, 2013 2:07 PM

Piplup-Pi-Chan
Chikorita:Bella

Cerberus87 February 8th, 2013 2:46 PM

I"m horrible with nicknames, so I don't really bother.

Caelus February 8th, 2013 11:36 PM

Up until Platinum I never named my starter Pokemon. I always preferred their original name and I didn't want them to go by anything else, but I was in a mood to give my chimchar a nickname in Platinum so I named it Inferhoss, a combination of Infernape and hoss.

RenegadeClyde February 9th, 2013 8:29 AM

I'm pretty bad when it comes to give nicknames to pokémon 'cause I'm not that creative (only sometimes). But I NEVER catch a pokémon without nicknamin' it. (Even the ones I catch just to complete the pokédex) I feel strange when I have a pokémon with its original name (Especially in my party, I feel like I don't like my pokémon. :3 Yep, strange)

I usually use simple 'n fast names, nothing extraordinary. In my first time playing Platinum, I have nicknamed my turtwig "Leaf". '-' In my second time playing it after a year or so, I've nicknamed my turtwig "Leaf 2.0"(I can't choose any other, turtwig is so awesome. :3) I did the same thing with my starly, "Raptor 2.0". '-'

In GSC/HGSS, I've chosen Cyndaquil. In HGSS, It was a female, so I nicknamed it "Cinnamon" XD In GSC, It was a male, so I named him "Xplotaro", a reference to Gold's Cyndaquil/Typhlosion.

JohnnyJ773 February 9th, 2013 11:41 AM

My starter for Heart Gold was Cyndaquil, I named him Nova.

pokemanmdj February 9th, 2013 12:10 PM

I always try to nickname my Pokemon. I love coming up with names.
Named my Chimchar Aaron (Part of some kind of inside joke I honestly don't remember.), my Tirtwig Biosuar, and named my Totodile WetTowel for some reason.

Mr. Whiscash February 9th, 2013 3:21 PM

Named everything Turtwig, including my Piplup, during a FAILED HORRIBLY Nuzlocke run of Platinum.

EvilTotodile February 9th, 2013 5:07 PM

I use nicknames if i can think of a good one. i wouldnt use a bad one for the sake of using a nickname

my first ever pokemon was Fireball the Infernape

Treecko February 10th, 2013 2:59 AM

I never really nickname my starter in Pokemon game cause I prefer keeping it's original name. This was with the exception of my Turtwig in my current Diamond run. It's name is Twigleaf, haha. But other that case and changing the capital letters to lower case, I haven't nicknamed my starter.

RainbowHeart February 10th, 2013 6:13 AM

I named my Turtwig "Leaf" and my Cyndaquil "Fire". :)

Seth Rollins February 10th, 2013 9:27 AM

only my chimchar i nicknamed him "FM" it means fire monkey.

ISNorden February 19th, 2013 11:48 PM

All my Pokémon get nicknames, if only to tell two members of the same species and gender apart. :-) My current team in Pearl, for instance:

  1. Sheldon, a 20th level Grotle who evolved from my starter Turtwig
  2. Spark, a 12th level Shinx captured outside Oreburgh City
  3. Crusher, a 10th level Geodude found on the Ravaged Path
  4. Kiai Dude,an 8th level Machop captured on the road outside Oreburgh
  5. Rosalind, a 7th level Budew spotted in the grass of Floaroma Meadow
  6. Allegretto, a 6th level Starly also found in the meadow

Most of my starter-nicknames are predictable, as you can see from Sheldon's example above...I've named a Torchic "Hot Wings" and a Chikorita "Old Green" in earlier generations. :embarrass But nicknames for my later finds are more inspired--sometimes by the moves they used on me, sometimes by the moves I hoped to teach. (Allegretto, my Starly, was ford of Quick Attack; Crusher's move list consists of Defense Curl and three offensive Rock-type TMs.)

Twiddle February 22nd, 2013 2:15 PM

Yep. Actually, I nickname all of my Pokémon, and the starters are no exception. In my Pokémon Blaze Black 2, my Serperior is called Retrag because Garter backwards.

Inky February 22nd, 2013 2:48 PM

I think I nicknamed my Piplup 'Pingu' once. I'm not a huge fan of nicknaming Pokemon - and it was annoying that I couldn't cancel it!

Jirachi504 February 23rd, 2013 7:36 PM

When I nicknamed pokes I just picked random named like "Jared".

IsaacTwentySeven February 23rd, 2013 7:43 PM

Only Pokemon that I've nicknamed are my Togepi (Heartbreak), Gyarados (VEANGEANCE), and Stantler (FATASSDEER).

Shayminlover123 February 25th, 2013 6:26 PM

Nope. I really liked thier normal names, and im not that creative with names.

StinkomanFan February 25th, 2013 6:29 PM

Of course! I named my Totodile "Napoleon", starting my trend of historically named companions.

PowerArmor34 February 25th, 2013 8:07 PM

I have a tenancy to name my starter something stupid or generic like a name my nickname for my charmander in my first pokemon game was flame :D
