dungeonmaster201 February 3rd, 2013 11:08 AM

If it is one thing I really loved about generation 3, it was the music. the music was probably my absolute favorite pokemon music of all time.

Brendino February 3rd, 2013 11:51 PM

Gold and Silver used to have my favorite music, but when the remakes came along and remixed the tracks so well, HeartGold and SoulSilver easily topped my list(my favorites being the Champions theme and the Game Corner theme). Plus, having the GB Sounds so I can listen to the classic versions any time I want is a huge bonus.

Kikaito plush February 4th, 2013 4:43 AM

I like the music from R/B/Y the most because the music in those games can be catchy to me..
(Route 1)( game condor) and of course ( lavender town)

KriegStein February 4th, 2013 4:47 AM

Hmm. Best music. But had to choose by game generation. Then I think I would have to say r/b/y. Since they made the greatest impact. But I think many tracks from r/s/e surpass those. Although since r/s/e was the first generation I owned personally, it has this special connection. :D

Fenne-kun February 4th, 2013 5:58 AM

For people that played the original games, they would mostly pic the older games or remakes like HGSS. However, being a slightly newer player (starting from Gen III), I do have to admit that Gen V has the best music. It just has the most detail, the most...feels, actually. Compare Aspertia and New Bark and you can see how complex and beautiful the newer themes are. I don't want to argue with the older gen gamers though XD

KriegStein February 4th, 2013 6:07 AM

OH THATS IT WE WILL ARGUE! Just kidding of course. :D I think Fenne-kun made an excellent point. We the older gamers might prefer the older games. So I wonder why? Is it the nostalgia value? Or is it truly that they are still superior even when compared to the new ones? And how do we compare the original gameboy music to that of DS? And also are remakes better than the original? (Fr/Lg and Hg/Ss) :D I havent played the 5th gen yet but I can imagine it would be better (in music dept) than previous ones.

Boilurn February 4th, 2013 8:31 AM

As I've only got the fifth generation games, I should've taken the time to listen to music from the other generations rather that vote straight away. At the moment, I've voted for B2/W2. I certainly enjoy some of the remixes compared to BW.

Turnip February 4th, 2013 9:41 AM

I think if it's going to be compared, it should probably be on a level playing field.
We should judge the compositions and note arrangements themselves instead of the finished product within the games - of course the more recent ones are going to have better sound quality.
Personally I voted R/S/E because of Littleroot, Verdanturf, the Deoxys theme and... I think it's the team boss battle music.

PlatinumDude February 4th, 2013 9:59 AM

I like the music starting from Gen III, but I like the R/S/E music the most because of the upbeat pace.

blue February 4th, 2013 1:45 PM

Without a doubt RSE, even though the music from Black & White are modern and up to date, there's something about the Hoenn soundtracks that have a distinctive feel to them... trumpets maybe?

kevcrash February 4th, 2013 2:51 PM

So hard.. I loved a bunch of music from each game; Gym leaders in RBY, Champion and Kanto gym leader music in GSC/HGSS, Gym leaders and Elite Four in RSE, Cynthia's battle music and the Elite Four area music (not the battle music), BW gym leaders and normal N battle, and all of the remixes in B2W2. I am going to go with GSC/HGSS just because the Kanto Gym Leader battles in that game are pure genius.

Atomic Pirate February 4th, 2013 3:02 PM

For me it'd be GSC. Nothing brings back memories like hearing that good old Team Rocket theme. RSE is a close second, though. That music playing on Route 116 in the volcanic ash is one of the best musical pieces in the series.

Mark Kamill February 4th, 2013 3:56 PM

RSE easily wins in the music department, the routes and victory road were so bombast, it was the first true time the traveling felt like an adventure. Not to mention the battle themes were also pretty gripping, and made battles very enjoyable. Battle music has always been a Pokemon strong point, but RSE did something more, even if it was a bit tinny and had the trumpets. And do I even have to mention the awesome sauce that is the Box Legend battle song? No, because its probably already ingrained in your mind.

piefara February 22nd, 2013 4:30 AM

yes response! they stuffed up the Johto music in PWT though what were they thinking with the gym leader music? and HG/SS champion music is awsome!

Caelus February 23rd, 2013 11:16 PM

I enjoy the music from generation 2, especially the latter half when you're in Kanto and every music is an awesome remix of its first gen counterpart. :D

And the 4th gen had a great soundtrack, too. Can't really have an honest answer because other than the 1st gen they all had equally great music.

Austin February 24th, 2013 1:12 AM

I really enjoyed the music in Lavender Town in R/B/Y.
So I'd probably say that Gen. I had the best music, because R/B/Y had music that actually stood out to me and wasn't just some background music.

Totodilesteel99 February 24th, 2013 3:48 AM

Easy. I love the Champion Lance/Red Battle Theme in Heartgold.
Wicked. It's so cool. I also enjoyed some of Sinnohs music, and a bit of Kanto.

Aeon. February 24th, 2013 10:32 AM

Generation Five in general. For me it's probably the most captivating OST in the series.

mikey February 24th, 2013 3:35 PM

I think the music from G/S/C and HGSS had the most captivating music. It was really nice and enjoyable. Especially the battle themes for gym leaders and elite 4. They were the best.

charcharx3 February 24th, 2013 4:01 PM

I love Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald music! Lots of trumpets, but still very good. Specifically, I love Vanderturf (sp?). It's a beautiful song.

Student D1 February 24th, 2013 6:52 PM

I'm more into the R/S/E music soundtrack, especially the Wild Encounter Battle music, Trainer Battle music and Rival Battle music (notice that my favorites are battle music). Hearing the trumpets used in the music just gives me nostalgia, remembering the time I played Pokémon Emerald (using an emulator :classic:).

I also like the other generations' music, but R/S/E music is the best for me. I hope they make a remix once a remake comes... hopefully.

roosterman February 24th, 2013 7:21 PM

i'm torn between black 2 and diamond. gym leaders last stand and unwavering emotions were good in gen 5 while diamond had route 201 and dialga's theme.

Iny Gage February 24th, 2013 8:03 PM

I really like the B/W 2 music, Not only does it have the best Gym leader theme IMO but it also Has colress.

Colress's music is awesome!

Cerberus87 February 24th, 2013 9:15 PM

The best in the series is BW. They really paid attention not only to music, but to general sound effects this time. There is a good deal of Sinnoh that I like as well (Route 217 <3).

Worst? RSE. It had good tunes such as Champion, and evil team theme, but the overabundance of trumpets was really exaggerated and sounded completely artificial compared to the 8-bit gems of RBYGSC. Back then I thought it was because of the GBA sound engine. When I learned it was producer choice, I disliked it even more.

Schwan February 25th, 2013 12:47 PM

R/S/E. I would vote Colosseum but I guess it doesn't count lol.

Brizz February 26th, 2013 8:59 AM

I gave my vote to RBY because of the champion theme which is my favorite music in all of the Pokemon games. I can't really recall any of the other sounds from some of the newer games because I usually listen to my ipod when playing Pokemon nowadays.

Firestorm1 February 26th, 2013 11:03 AM

They're all good in their own ways. There isn't an "All of them" button?

P0K3GUY#1 February 26th, 2013 11:07 AM

I really thought that Platinum had the best music. I only really liked one of the soundtracks, which was when you were on your way towards the spear pillar.

It'd be nice to some day read a post of yours in which you DON'T take the opportunity to go beyond the scope of the question to complain about RSE. It's extremely tedious.

On topic - Unova, IMO, has the best music from a production standpoint - impressive in quality and variety, and particularly the little themes that are added based on season or who you talk to or such. Sinnoh though has my personal favorite music, and my single favorite piece in any of the games - the Team Galactic battle theme.

piefara March 13th, 2013 2:29 AM

I should of mentioned NOT FROM A TECHNICAL STANDPOINT.
top 10!
Silver (HGSS)
Giratina (PLT.)
blue (PWT)
Hoenn champion (PWT)
Red/Lance (HGSS)
plasma grunt (BW2)
Galactic cammander
cyrus
raquasa
Cynthia
they stuffed all the Johto themes in PWT

ZetaZaku March 13th, 2013 5:55 AM

I recently got into the gym battle from LeafGreen. I really like the arrange of the original theme. It really fired me up in the Elite Four.

Zorogami March 13th, 2013 2:29 PM

There can only be one: Definitely Pokemon RBY, the original, awesome, 8bit Perfection!
I dont know about you guys, but as soon as i hear a tune of the original games, i get instant
flashbacks of the first time i played the game. So many memories...That's something the new games are never going to be able to do. Don't believe me? Check out the video and think again ;)

Arc March 13th, 2013 2:35 PM

B2W2 takes the cake for me. All the other games have awesome tracks too, but PWT Final, and Colress Battle Theme are some of the most amazing tracks I've ever heard from Pokemon to date.

B-L-A-Z-E March 13th, 2013 3:43 PM

I think gold, silver and crystal had the best soundtrack. HG/SS was ok but they made too many changes to most of my favorite tracks such as the Kanto gym theme.

Treecko March 14th, 2013 12:51 AM

I kind of wish there was a multiple choice option in the poll, since I'm torn between R/S/E and BW. The RSE music just got something about it that makes you feel like your on and adventure. All of the trumpets and rolling drum are cheerful and rather catchy. And then BW has some of the most beautiful music in any Pokemon game I've heard. Plus I love how some of the song have "layers" that you turn on and off by interacting with certain people and places. It so well composed and I can find myself humming the songs all the time. Gen V in general had some amazing tunes in it.

emester15 March 14th, 2013 5:06 AM

It may be because I started out with Gen III, but my favorite pokemon soundtrack had to be from the Hoenn Region in R/S/E. I just felt the powerful orchestral score was amazing and used every last bit of the GBA's audio capabilities. If we are talking about any Pokemon game here and not just the handheld titles, then the best music was from Pokemon Colosseum/XD: Gale of Darkness.

CptSwaggerPants March 14th, 2013 5:57 AM

Canalave City, Alder's Pokémon Elite theme, N's castle and Team Galactic!

Pikapia March 14th, 2013 6:06 AM

For me it's defiantly Red, Blue, and Yellow... because of Lavender Town. :t105:

lazy~ March 15th, 2013 11:47 AM

I think diamond, pearl and platinum has the best soundtrack. I like all of the route and town/city music with my favorite being the Veilstone City theme.

piefara March 16th, 2013 5:49 PM

oops! forgot Deoxys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

vapes March 24th, 2013 6:55 PM

Gen 3 and Gen 5 had the best soundtracks. Pretty much every track in these games were flawless and truly pushed the system's sound quality

Firox March 24th, 2013 9:28 PM

I'll agree with some, every game (I have not played RBY or GSC) has its part with awesome music - really gets me excited and pumped up for the battle or what ever scene is going on. Sort of like preparing for the unexpected.

Overall, I love the music/soundtrack in the Black2/White2 game - pretty much every gym battle (especially with Roxie) and Elite 4.

GalacticGlameow March 25th, 2013 10:03 PM

My favorite is Diamond and Pearl. I love the song for Solaceon City!

My second favorite is Yellow and Blue. Especially some of the songs when you are walking on a certain route. They're really catchy. XD

Ephemeral Euphoria March 25th, 2013 10:29 PM

My favorite themes were the Tin Tower in GSC and the Distortion World in Platinum. Very few songs have made me feel like I was literally in another world but somehow those particular 2 managed to pull it off.

Selective reading much on your part?

JoeSchneider March 27th, 2013 4:37 AM
