http://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen5/blackwhite/351.pngBackstoryhttp://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen5/blackwhite/351.png

You are an aspiring Pokémon Trainer, ready to start your journey. You've spent the past few years learning more and more about Pokémon and planning out various teams.
Finally, the big day arrives and you rush to the Lab to get your very first Pokémon. The Professor greets you and you eagerly smile, thinking of the adventure you are about to begin. As you daydream through most of the Professor's speech, you finally feel a firm grip of your shoulder. You open your eyes and see the professor glancing at you, upset about his wasted speech.
You quickly apologise and promise the Professor you'll help him with his research as a way of apologising. He looks at you happily and points at his computer screen. You immediately notice a huge map full of various symbols and colours and notes. You ask the Professor about it and he reveals that he is trying to find out which Pokémon live in which areas based on temperatures and locations. He then points at your home region and asks you to build a representative team, to help with his research.
Despite your other plans, you decide to help the Professor, mainly because you owe him one.
After obtaining your Pokédex and PokéBalls and pick your very first partner, you are ready to go.
So... what's your region like?

I apologize, but could you switch one of those Pokemon with one I can get Pre-Gym 2. The first one that I can get legally on this team is Pienco (which evolves into Forretress of course) after Gym 2 in the Illex Forest. (Both Misdrevus and Sneasel can only be gotten in the Mt. Silver area ((Which I'm fine with, I suppose)), Qwilfish after getting to Kanto ((Super Rod is gotten on Silence Bridge)), Eevee is obtained right before Gym 4 ((Have to talk to Bill about the Time Capsule first)), and Venonat can only be captured in Bug Catching Tournaments ((Right before Gym 3)). )

Of course, if you're fine with me starting up the challenge at Illex Forest, or perhaps hacking in my first available Pokemon (Pienco) prior to the first gym, then you don't have to switch anything.

Moist January 28th, 2013 5:52 PM

Sorry, I haven't played a gen 2 game in a while. Your new team is Poliwrath, Jynx, Haunter (Gengar if you can trade), Ariados, Magneton and Umbreon.

Thanks. That's a well-balanced team. The only one I would have a problem with is Leavanny, due to it being a Bug-Type, but I'll use it anyway.

Pokemon Crystal Update #1

Badges:
http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/4/4a/Zephyr_Badge.pnghttp://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/0/08/Hive_Badge.pnghttp://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/a/a7/Plain_Badge.png

I thought that I might as well give a 3rd Badge update. Which, surprisingly enough, I struggled more with Falkner than with Whitney. At any rate... I chose Totodile at the start in order to use it as a cut slave and rushed through the beginning part of the game, quickly catching a Spinarak, Poliwag, and a Gastly right off the bat. I boxed my Totodile at this point and used my Spinarak to beat through Bellsprout tower. After that, I trained the other two on my team slightly. I got lucky, and my (at the time) level 8 Poliwag ended up beating his Pidgeotto. Poliwag then was able to zoom through both Slowpoke Well and Bugsy's gym. My Rival then went down without much effort.

Realizing that none of my team could learn cut, I got out Totodile and taught him cut. After getting through Ilex Forest, I stared at the Pokemon Communication Center and then put Totodile back into its box and then beat through the underground tunnel. Feeling pretty good with my levels at that point, I entered Whitney's gym and slammed through everyone with Poliwag. Whitney's Milktank was quickly finished off by Gastly's Curse and Hypnosis. With that, I grabbed my Plain Badge out of Whitney's shaking hands and saved the game.

Blah, my computer crashed as I was trying to post an update... Ah well, I'll just go with a less detailed version... And I guess no spoiler tags around my team since those are acting up right now... weird.

At any rate, LilJz, how about... Swampert, Walrein, Dusclops, Aggron, Mightyena, and Weezing.

I got every Pokemon but Jynx (Who is only out in the morning and day hours). Traded Haunter with myself to evolve him into a Gengar. Used Eevee through the whole thing to try to evolve him, but his happiness doesn't want to budge. My other guys evolved. Made quick work of each gym, and now I'm twiddling my fingers waiting for the morning (well, more like finally working on my homework that I was ignoring).

Yeah but I'm trying to beat most of the trainers with Nincada so I don't have to grind off wilds to evolve it before Brawly.

As I traveled to the E4, my Eevee finally evolved into an Umbreon. (Too bad that I messed up and forgot to teach it a dark type attack. Now the only thing that it can really do is take hits...) Once there, I easily defeated my rival, bought items, and finally defeated the E4 with some tough fights. Gengar was the star of this show, even if he was fairly low leveled compared to Umbreon at this time. The credits rolled, and I made my way to Kanto. Finding some difficulty with Lt. Surge at the time, I beat Sabrina first (primarily using Umbreon), then Erika (with my low leveled Jynx), Misty (with 'Recoil' the Magneton), and finally Lt. Surge with my Umbreon for the most part. I still have more badges to get, but I thought that this would be a good spot to update.

If you would like, you can replace Driftblm with Banette. I understand the difficulty of getting Drifloon due to him only being there on Friday's.

the only issue with Banette is that by the time I get it, I would have completed the challenge @[email protected] Banette first shows up on route 225. So that leaves me with gastly or with taking the time to get drifloon @[email protected]
Imma just grab Drifloon else we'd end up stuck discussing this forever xD

EDIT: just realised I'm 35 minutes away from friday o.O no need to wait for drifloon *o*I can catch him right after I beat these guys at the valley

Updates:
Spoiler:
♥ Started with a lot of Soft-Resetting because I wanted a Female starter. Lucky me she also turned out to have decent IVs and a good nature.
♥ Rushed through the whole tutorial thingy.
♥ Delivered the Parcel, got a map
♥ Obtained the Pokétch and an Old Rod
♥ Rushed to the Ravaged Path and tried catching a Zubat. Accidently fainted a few before I encountered Dokugai who was also female and has a decent Nature and surprisingly decent IVs as well.
♥ Placed Dokugai in front of my party and went on a training/battling spree followed by a whole lot of running around with Fast Forward Toggle On in order to increase friendship.
♥ Reached Oreburgh Gate. Caught a Psyduck for HM using purposes. Went into Oreburgh, looked for Roark in the Mines then evolved Asatsuyu by battling geodudes like crazy.
♥ Took advantage of the Gym battle to boost Dokugai’s friendship some more. Taught Rock Smash to a Bidoof I had caught earlier and grabbed Flash from the Gate basement.
♥ Went back at the Ravaged Path, smashed some rocks, battled some trainers and finally reached Floaroma Town.
♥ Healed up my Awesome Duo, picked up some Berries then went at the Valley of Windworks where I battled this puny Galactic Grunt that proceeded to lock himself in after losing, not forgetting to tell me who had the key >.>
♥ Went over at the guy with the Honey and smashed some more grunts. And go figure, they dropped the key.
♥Back at the Valley, I unlocked the door and the Grunt that had locked it before runs away like the scaredy cat he is >.>
♥ I’m taking advantage of more battles to increase Dokugai’s friendship then proceed to beating the commander whatever she way and her ugly fat cat, thus saving the scientist.
♥ I then find out that Drifloon comes around once a week, but they didn’t know when. Being a know-it-all, I knew it would come on Friday. And go figure, I was half an hour away from Friday. So I spent that time smacking Pachirisu and Buizel and Shellos with Dokugai for some more friendship and level increase.
♥ Finally, Drifloon shows up. I save and proceed to battle it. But it’s male and I don’t wanna ruin my so far perfect female-only team. So I proceed to soft-resetting. Again and again and again... and again... and again until finally run into a female Drifloon. I capture her and name her Yuukai. And I’m pleasantly surprised that it also has a not half bad nature and quite alright Ivs apparently. So far so good.
♥ Using Yuukai, I clear my way towards Eterna Forest, taking ocasional trips back to the Poké Center (for the extra steps thus extra happiness)
♥ I team up with the pretty lady with a Chansey and we proceed to battling things, taking advantage of mobile Poké Center.
♥ Grabbed a Cascoon and evolved it into Dustox for Flash and Defog purposes later on then I kept abusing the mobile Poké Center until my Dokugai evolved into Golbat and then, later on into Crobat.
♥ Finally reached Eterna City.
♥ Seems like the Gym Leader was waiting for me. Since my sweet little Asatsuyu was at a disadvantage, I cleared the Gym with Yuukai’s Gust and Dokugai’s Wing Attack, thus obtaining my second badge.
♥ After the battle, Chihou, the hyperactive friend/rival/neighbour bumps into me once again and forces me to see some old statue where I grab a Draco Plate >.> <.<
♥ Obtained Cut HM from Cynthia. Taught Cut to my trusty Bidoof then proceeded to beating up Galactic Grunts all the way up to the Bike Shop owner whose Pokémon were held captive/
♥ Healed up at the Poké Center then saved.

I can only get one through Bill's Grandfather. (Which I then would have to go in order bringing all of the guys or since I'm playing Crystal, get lucky and have this fisherman call me for a battle, which is all chance.) I suppose I could go catch all of those Pokemon, or trade him into Blue if you want me to to evolve him, though.

Edit: Fisherman Tully finally called me, so I have Poliwrath now. I should finish the challenge by tonight.

Pokemon Crystal Update #4 (Final Update)
Badges Obtained: 16 + Red Defeated
Total Time Played:
40:55
Most Useful Pokemon:
Gengar
Most Useful Staller: Umbreon

Victory! This challenge was fun, and it was quite difficult in the end, with the final battle with Red taking a total of 55 minutes. Sadly, in that fight, evolving Poliwhirl into Poliwrath made it slightly less useful due to its newfound weakness against flying types... Ouch. Snorelax took the longest to defeat, only being brought down by Recoil's supersonic working with Gengar's curse. All of Red's Pokemon were brought down by slowly chipping away at their HP and using Flash while repeatedly healing myself up. At any rate...

How about Sudowoodo, Meganium, Donphan, Venomoth and Pidgeot, and for the fighting type get Tyrogue and use whatever Hitmon it evolves into?

Sorry for the two day delay, I haven't even had internet for 3 days aha.

Anyway an update on my challenge from like a week ago:

-I started with Treeko
-I got to Rustburo City
-I caught a Nincada
-I went back and beat every trainer with Nincada
-After a 30 minute battle I managed to beat Roxanne with just Nincada(Uggghh that took forever)
-I caught a Mawile
-I procrastinated for a week
-I delivered the letter to Steven
-I caught a Magikarp
-I am now training in the route north of Slateport to evolve Nincada because I doubt I'll be able to beat Brawly unless he can't hurt me.

Pokemon White Update #1
Badges Obtained: 5

I rushed through the beginning of the game, choosing Oshawott due to the fact that it is the same type as the first Pokemon I can obtain. I beat the first gym, and then caught Froggy, the typole, right before the second gym. After a lot of training, he was able to solo the next gym. BarrelRoll was caught soon after that, and I proceeded to destroy the next three gyms. I believe I can catch my next guy here, so I'll stop for now.

SO I finally completed my soulsilver run.

Beat red, with 2 pokemon surviving. [Umbreon and arbok]

Playtime - 31h:03s
Final team:

Kingler, Lv 69
Jynx, Lv 69
Haunter, Lv 65
Skarmory, Lv 68
Umbreon, Lv 72
Arbok, Lv 71

I did quite a lot of grinding to ensure I beat red on the first attempt.

I wasn't a huge fan of Jynx before this playthrough, but the ugly bugger grew on me. Saved me multiple times with sleephax.

Xatu replaced with Kadabra (alakazam if you can evolve)

I'm likin the sound of that! If one or two other assigned teams are anything to go off of, I can safely get dragonite and crobat since Dragonite fills another one of my criteria. Either way, I accept that team.

Moist July 28th, 2013 9:58 PM

Nice to see people are still interested in the challenge. I might give it a go again, It'd give me a reason not to play animal crossing.

I accept this team, the only Pokémon I don't really like is Vespiquen. But whatever, when I use her she will probably be quite useful.

I'm almost halfway through the game now.But the problem Im facing now is that any Pokemon in the team given to me can't learn Surf. I need surf to proceed in the story and reach fortree. So, I wonder I it's right to change donphan with some other pokemon without having to forfeit the challenge . Please Help Fast!

Ahri July 31st, 2013 2:04 AM

you could get an HM slave for all your water HMs and simply rotate it with one of your team members when you need to use it. That's how I usually handle HM using when I got full teams.

Oh derp, I just discovered that it's impossible for me to get the Skull Fossil because of my trainer ID, could I use Bastiodon instead?

nitemate August 1st, 2013 5:17 AM

I think it's ok to use Bastiodon. I forgot that trainer id problem while assigning the team.
