The Time Warp Challenge

Backstory

You are a Pokémon Trainer living in the 30th Century. You’ve always been interested in other Eras and wished you could time travel, just to experience the past. But your family wouldn’t allow it because it appears to be way too dangerous. Stories have been told, about people that travelled through time before, never to return. Besides, you don’t even have a Time Traveller license and that’s another obstacle in your way.
One fateful day, however, your father decides to take you to one of his conventions. Despite not really wanting to go, you decide to do it, just because you had nothing better to do.
Much to your surprise, the convention is about time travelling and they even have a Time Machine. Without thinking it twice, you sneak away from everybody and into the Time Machine. You smile excitedly as you sit down, buckle up and begin pressing buttons, imagining what it would be like if it actually worked.
Suddenly, a bright, purple light with an azure hue begins to shine and the whole machine starts shaking. A feeling of joy mixed with panic engulfs you as you hold tight to a lever, waiting.
A few moments later, the light begins to fade and the shaking stops. You sit quietly, listening, but are unable to hear a sound. After building up enough courage, you get out of the Machine to find yourself in a whole different place. You are excited, yet scared so you reach for your backpack, only to realize you left it at home, along with all of your Pokémon.
You realize you can’t just stand there so you decide to get back into the machine and go back home. But the Machine seems to have run out of energy so you’re stuck. After thinking for a while, you decide to hide the Machine the best you can and to explore the newly found land.
What will you find in this new world?

Quick question: When you say no nose, do you mean like how Lanturn looks like it doesn't have a nose or quite literally no nose, like Graveler?

EDIT: Another question: Can we use dual type pokemon who has only 1 type on the chart (like paras for the egyptian era one)?

Lopnis March 3rd, 2013 8:40 PM

I'd like to try this out and maybe and Ultimate if it goes well, Maybe like a Time traveling Epic Trying to get back to the future

By no nose, I mean no visible nose like Meowth, Jigglypuf, Wigglytuff, Aipom, Geodude, Graveler and so on. And yes, you can use dual types that have 1 type from the chart.

Question before I start, if a Water type who's cute evolves into something tough like Squirtle to Blastoise, can I use that?

yup, you can, as long as you evolve it.

Thursday March 4th, 2013 7:07 AM

Okay, I've been playing pretty much all night and I have class to go to so I'm going to update this now!

Pokemon Silver
Number of Badges: 4

Spoiler:

*Started a new game, named myself silver
*Went to professor elm and received Chikorita
*Did the whole "Go to see Prof. Oak" skit
*Met my rival halfway and easily kicked his butt
*Got back, named my rival A (Cause I was too lazy to finish his name)
*Was given 5 pokeballs, got my mom to keep some of my money and I was off to go!
*Using said Chikorita, I was able to catch Nicky (Hoothoot), Mike (Rattata), and Geo (Geodude) with only 1 pokeball used for each.
*Put chikorita up and started to grind for some decent levels (level 5 for each of the pokemon).
*Went to Cherrygrove, grabbing the berry along the way, got the map, healed my pokemon and then went up route 30, grinding and grabbing all the items
*Got to Violet City and, after a quick stop at the poke center, went straight to bell tower for some more training.
*Went through Bell Tower, grabbing all the items, and defeated my rival as well as the monk at the top. Walked back through (for levels and because I didn't want to use my items up)
*After another quick stop at the poke center for healing and the egg, I went to violet gym, easily defeated it with my 3 pokemon.
*Went down Route 32, grabbing the berry and miracle seed (not that I needed it), grinded a bit to get my pokemon to level 12, a quick poke center stop, and then off to Union Cave, where I died a few times thanks to onix and geodude before being able to get through.
*Down in Azelea Town, grabbed the white apricorn, and then talked to Kurt to have him to to the Slowpoke Well.
*Down in the Well I was able to easily beat Team Rocket and then back to azelea town to get Kurt to start on the pokeball (after getting the lure ball)
*To the gym, I was able to defeat it quite easily thanks to Nicky's peck, which caused Nicky to evolve.
*Fighting my rival again, I was able to easily defeat his pokemon with mine, mainly thanks to Nicky evolving and hypnosis.
*Through Ilex Forest, I caught a Paras, which I taught cut, to get through (Tried using it for a bit and it kept dying so I boxed it in goldenrod)
*More grinding on Route 34-35, which got Mike to evolve into a raticate and the egg I received to hatch into a Togepi (Togi).
*Went through Goldenrod first for the bike then off to the gym for a almost lose (only winning with Togi using metronome and getting slash)
*Grabbed the squirt bottle, went back through Route 35, catching a male Nidoran (Owen) with the last 2 pokeballs I had, and then defeated sudowoodo.
*More grinding to get Owen to evolve and then off to the Ecruteak gym, where I was defeated many times (I think around 4 times) thanks to my lacking amount of pokemon and almost all normal types :(
*Went to poke center, got bill to go back to goldenrod, healed and then back to the gym, where I won thanks to Hypnosis.
*Back to Goldenrod for the Eevee (Dex) and then back to Ecruteak to defeat the sisters and partially go through burned tower for a few items. Also went into Route 42 for the Ultra Ball.
*Back to Ilex Forest for the headbutt guy and off to Route 29, where I spent about a few hours doing nothing but headbutting (I taught Mike) trees. I was able to catch an Aipom (Lee) by using my greatball and ultra ball (To give you a way to figure out how long I spent, I was able to get Geo up 1 level to evolve and then Owen up about 4 levels)
*Went to Olivine City's Lighthouse to promise Jasmine help
*Currently walking/grinding and trying to see what pokemon i should use my lure ball (and last pokeball) on.

yes, you can. dual types are allowed.

Thursday March 4th, 2013 2:12 PM

Before I start beating my pokemon's head against a tree for the next few hours, are we required to have both pokemon in the team?

EDIT:

Please ignore my question as I can't go any farther. I ran out of pokeballs trying to catch a krabby to travel over water. I have officially ended this run by not being able to go any farther.

I would still like to know if we are have to get both pokemon though as I want to retry another Egyptian Era run but this time on emerald please :3

I'll do a duplicate sign-up, since I got my LeafGreen back from my friend. *"steals" all of his pokemon through palpark*
And as I like planning out my teams before hand, here they are - let me know if something isn't allowed.

Username: Rewy
Game: Emerald
Era: Renaissance Era
  • Milotic (whee, hours of fishing! at least now I'll have something to do at school... 95% of my time there I spend playing pokemon)
  • Lanturn (I see it as cute and it's main Water/ type, please note if it doesn't fit the category )
  • Gardevoir
  • Castform (Fairy-group + Normal)
  • Altaria (as Flying one )
  • ... something I'll see what random I find for this spot (surprises, surprises!)
Probably going to start with a Mudkip just because it's the most adorable water thing at the start and retire him (without evolving) after a second gym or so.

Username: Rewy
Game: LeafGreen
Era: Westward Expansion
  • Rapidash (never used one...)
  • Persian (Normal-type, non-Fairy, mostly for that pickup as Meowth)
  • Fearow / Dodrio (not sure which one)
  • Rhydon (Surf!)
  • Tauros (I'm curious...)
  • Primeape (So not going to beat Brock with a birdy...)

...Bruno is going to murder me in E4... *nervous laughter*

Onwards!

You aren't required to get both of the mandatory Pokémon o.o I left two or more choices here and there so people can pick one they think suits their team.
Oh and I added a new rule in order to prevent the game from ending due to not being able to catch a HM slave & whatnot.

Update #1 for LeafGreen
Spoiler:
  • Started up the game and did the starting things up to Pokeballs. I picked Squirtle just incase I need an early Surf slave. His name is VALES - my common name for HM slaves.
  • Made my way through to Viridian City and bought myself few potions.
  • Went to look for a Mankey then...
Caught myself:

Bandit the Mankey
Bold nature (eh...-_-;; )

Sniper the Spearow
Naughty nature

  • Began a tedious training session to over level every bird in the area. So much running to Pokecenter.
  • Challenged my Rival with my power leveled Duo. (So many Rattatas died for the cause.)
  • Headed north to Viridian Forest after buying Antidotes.
  • Arrived after a bit to Pewter City and went to challenge Brock. Mostly with Bandit.
  • After the more or less easy win, I headed for Mt. Moon and saved around the Pokecenter there.

The Team so far:

Bandit | Mankey | 15
Karate Chop / Leer / Low Kick / Scratch

Sniper | Spearow | 13
Peck / Growl / Leer / Fury Attack

Update #1 for Emerald

Spoiler:
  • Started up my save from Prof. Birch being harassed by a Linoone... and I picked a Mudkip! (I herd U liek...) Named him Claude.
  • Saved the day and was told to go meet May. Argh. This slow walking!
  • Beat her Treecko with a bit of training on the way.
  • Finally got mah pokeballs and went to look myself a Ralts.
  • Tedious searching is tedious...
Finally:

Tamara the Ralts
Impish nature

  • Then I caught myself a bunch of Zigzagoons to find myself things. And for Cut/Strength/Rock Smash. (They won't be leveled.)
  • Trained up before meeting my Dad and Wally.
  • Met Scott. That stalker!
  • Made my way to Petalburg Woods.
  • Beat the Team Aqua grunt on the way. Got a Wailmer Pail and some berries.
  • Arrived to Rustboro and did some plot things. Tried not to overlevel everything with Claude and Tamara.
  • Challenged Roxanne. Water Gun vs. Rock Tomb
  • Whee! Did some final things before going to talk with May for a battle. That random Torkoal glitch in her team is just so... yeah.. I don't know
  • Had to save the day again - A man was separated from his beloved bird!
  • Anyway... Backtracked some and caught myself a lift to Dewford.

The Team so far:

Tamara | Ralts | 16
Confusion / Double Team / Teleport / Growl

Claude | Mudkip | 15
Water Gun / Mud Slap / Tackle / Bide

Yay :D If this is the case, I would like to keep going with my silver challenge as well (time to use some of that money up XD) I'll probably start playing again after class and then update before bed. Thank you!

Also, do you mind the use of the speed button on the gameboy emulator? I've only used it to get through people talking to me sometimes (like Whitney crying) and wondered if I could speed through some grinding as well (cause grinding takes forever to do)

Ok, time for another update!

Pokemon Silver

Number of Badges: 8
Spoiler:

*After KagamiChan added that extra rule, I went and bought 1 greatball 3 times to catch a krabby (they refused to be caught D: )
*After getting it I swam to Cianwood to fight chuck, which I was horribly defeated by the first 3 people in the gym (so much for having almost all normal pokemon :\ )
*After grabbing the Secret Potion, I swam around to find battles and to grind for some levels for a bit (made much easier thanks to the fast forward button)
*Back to the gym and lost a few times to chuck (I swear my noctowl has the worst eyesight to miss so many times)
*When I finally won (thanks to hypnosis), I swam back to olivine to give jasmine the potion to use.
*Ignoring her gym for now, I went straight to Mahagany Town to stop the Red Gyrados and team rocket!
*After being the hero for a bit I went to pryce's gym and had a pretty easy time defeating him with Geo's magnitude and Mike's Hyper Fang
*I then went to Blackthorn City to try and defeat the gym but couldn't get in, just to remember that I had to fight jasmine and get team rocket out of goldenrod
*Prioritizing the gym fight first, I quickly went over to Olivine and defeated Jasmine with Geo and Owen
*After that, I quickly went to Goldenrod to take care of Team rocket, gaining the silver wing from the radio guy and then back to blackthorn
*After having two of my pokemon defeated by the first guy in the gym, I quickly went outside and grind for about 1~2 levels
*Went back and defeated all the extra trainers in the gym (and having to leave after every one to go heal :( )
*On to Clair, who beat me pretty badly a few times (to my annoyance). After grinding for another 1~2 levels, I was able to defeat her with a super fang to her three dragonairs and then hyponesis/take down combo to kingdra
*Quickly going to the Dragon's Den to get the fang, I then went to the poke center to heal and put up items I couldn't use (apricorns, nevermeltice, dragon fang, etc.)
*Back to New Bark to get the master ball from the prof. and then off to Kanto, where I am currently stationed at Route 26, waiting for morning.

Okay, time for a big update!

Pokemon Silver
Number of Badges: 16

Spoiler:
*I was finally able to evolve eevee to espeon after another 2 levels, just in time to learn psychic :D
*Going from where I was, I went directly up and through Victory Road and to the Pokemon League.
*Will was, surprisingly, hard (the hardest sans Lance) and defeated me the first time I fought him. Being more cautious (and buying those items that you specified), I was able to finally defeat him after the 3 time
*After Will, Koga was a piece of cake. Used Owen's Horn Attack until he went down and then went with Dex's Psychic
*Bruno was the easiest as Dex 1-hit KOed every pokemon he had
*Didn't have trouble with Karen either thanks to Owen's Double Kick and Horn Attack
*Lance gave me some trouble as I started off with Mike just using Hyper Fang... Which Didn't last past his first Dragonite using Hyper Beam :| Switched over to Dex and just used psychic on the three Dragonite's for a 2-hit KO. I then just used Nicky to Hypnotize the other two and confuse the heck out of them >:D
*After the long credits, I talked to Elm, got the tickets and went to Olivine to get on the ship, where I earned some quick exp. and got off at Vermillion.
*I quickly went down to Lt. Surge and beat his gym with Geo and then off to Saffron, where I beat Sabrina's gym with Dex
*Over to Celadon, I used Nicky to beat Erika and then off to the power plant to get the guy to tell me about the part he needed.
*Went to Cerulean to grab the part, defeat the rocket defeat Misty with only Mike (which was oddly satisfying) and then back to the power plant to save the day of Kanto.
*I went through the cave near the power plant and, after saving and resetting like crazy, was able to finally use my very last greatball on a Kangaskan, who I had to super fang it's life down to super low number and then use Hypnosis and then hope the greatball work.
*Going through Lavender town to get the radio card, which I totally forgot to do the quiz in goldenrod so I had to go back to Saffron to talk to mimic girl, get the doll from pokemon fanclub creeper, and go back to her for the magnet pass and finally finish the quiz before coming back to Kanto.
*After that, I woke up the snorlax in the middle of the road, captured it with the Master Ball I was given (cause, really, where else am I going to use it?) and then off to Pewter City, where I beat Brock with only Dex.
*Walked all the way down to Pallet Town, talked to Oak, and then off to what use to be Cinnabar Island to get Gary to go back to his gym. After that, I went to Seafoam Island and beat Blaine with Geo and Owen, thanks to the earthquake TM (which I taught Owen >:D )
*Back to Viridian, and then onto beating Gary, who I had a somewhat off time because his pokemon's levels were actually higher than mine (and all other gyms in general).
*Back to Oak to get the pass to go to Mt. Silver, where I currently reside and plan to sit until I get my pokemon to a higher level.

EDIT:

Okay, I'm doing another edit because I want to first say that all my pokemon are at level 60 as well as add my last pokemon to my team! Say hello to Damien, the Tyranitar!

Pokemon Silver
Number of Badges: 16 and Red defeated

Spoiler:

*I started off with Geo against his Pikachu, who I easily defeated with an earthquake
*Next, he sent out Espeon and I sent out Damien. With it using Mud-Slap, Damien took a few tries to finally kill it with Crunch.
*Next, he sent out Venusaur and I sent out Nicky. Noticing that Fly was pretty much crap against it, I used Hypnosis and then switched off to Espeon for a few Psychics.
*After that he sent out Blastoise and I sent Nicky. Using the same basic tactics as last time, I instead sent out Geo to use Earthquake until it fainted.
*He sent out Snorlax and I sent out Mike, who used Super Fang TONS of times (thanks to it using Rest) until I finally got annoyed and switched out to Nicky to cause it to fall asleep and then Nidoking to Double Kick it until it fainted.
*On to Charizard, his last pokemon, where I sent out Mike to use Super Fang to half his life and then Icy Wind to win the fight!

Update #2 for LeafGreen
Spoiler:
  • Yahoo... Mt.Moon. It was like I was here yesterday. Oh wait I was... on HeartGold.
  • Trekked my way through and picked up a random fossil.
  • Considered getting Mega Punch or Mega Kick but... neh.
  • Healed up at Cerulean and restocked on items.
  • Challenged my Rival at the Nugget Bridge and went to do some training.
  • Finally went to challenge Misty after exploring all of the cape. She felt like such a pushover with no Psychic moves.
Caught myself:

A rattata named Cutter
To get past tiny trees in future AND...

Candy the Meowth
With Technician! (The reason for this over Pickup is that I can then just spam Pay Day on every fight. It'll do 80 damage + STAB )

  • Trained her up to match the other two.
  • Arrived to Vermilion City and went to derp around S.S.Anne.
  • Healed up at least twice in the ship, because Growlithes and burns... no fair.
  • Taught my Rival another lesson and gave the Captain a massage. HM1 get! Also Sniper evolved!
  • Taught HM1 to Cutter.
  • Bought some Paralyz Heals.
  • And went to battle Surge. It went fairly well. Considering I could only use 2 of my team. Although I was overleveled.
  • Then onwards to Route 9 and 10. Decided to leave Rock Tunnel for another day.

The Team so far:

Bandit | Mankey | 26
Brick Break / Focus Energy / Low Kick / Scratch

Sniper | Fearow | 22
Peck / Pursuit / Leer / Fury Attack

Candy | Meowth | 23
Bite / Pay Day / Shock Wave / Growl

Update #2 for Emerald

Spoiler:
  • Oh right Dewford... Yeah... Went straight to the Gym to train Tamara there.
  • Found Brawly, but I just ran off and went to heal.
  • Decided to go have a look at the Granite Cave. All the Zubats! D8
  • Flipped a few desks, since I'm so cheap that I don't like to teach Flash to anyone.
  • Finally found Steven. Gave him his letter and Escape Roped out.
  • Anyhow, went to challenge Brawly finally. That Meditite. O_O I've never liekd them. The looks nor the typing.
  • After gritting my teeth for awhile, I won.
  • Went BACK to Rustboro because... dun dun dun... Exp.Share!
  • Okay then I let Briney ship me around again to Slateport.
  • Nothing too interesting here. Delivered package to Stern.
  • ...
  • ...Cursed very colorfully at the Aqua Grunts! Dark vs Psychic. Claude to the rescue.
  • Yaay... not Cycling Road after making sure I wouldn't get massacred.
  • Beat May again. Claude had to save the day again from Grovyle though. (Yes, it's still a Mudkip.)
  • Oh dear god... do I have to... okay fine. Battling Wally.
  • Did some training on the routes around Mauville before going back there to heal.
  • Challenged Wattson to a battle of wits and speed. Psychic everywhere.
  • Won by luck. That Manectric...
  • Taught Rock Smash to one of the Pickup-Zigzagoons.
  • And I decided to call it a day on this one too. Soon Swablu...

The Team so far:

Tamara | Kirlia | 27
Psychic / Double Team / Teleport / Confusion

Claude | Mudkip | 20
Water Gun / Mud Slap / Tackle / Bide

Update #3 for LeafGreen

Spoiler:
  • Time for some Rock Tunneling. In the dark. All the zubats. All the geodudes. That's what I get for being cheap with Flash.
  • After an hour or so... (I was trying to battle everything and everyone.)
  • Finally outside air! Lavender town! *makes spooky finger wiggling*
  • Well after putzing around for awhile I headed to Route 8, 7 and toward Celadon City. Bandit evolved half way there.
  • Got my Tea. And Eevee - boxed to trade off with PalPark. (Hey, it was female and I need trainer numbers to Gen4's since I can't use GTS with them.)
  • Tried not to get distracted by gambling.
  • ...
  • I failed with that attempt.

5 hours later... I had successfully bought:

Yellow Flute
All the TM's except Iron Tail

  • Went back to Route 7 to spam Pay Day to get my money back. ;>_> Candy evolved with that.
  • Bought a PokeDoll for later plot things. Also went to get HM02 Fly from the route nearby.
  • Challenged Erika with my over leveled team of ruffians.
  • And began to raid the Rocket hideout.
  • I... I'm disappointed in you Giovanni.
  • Candy took off almost half their health with Pay Days. Oh well...
  • Trekked back to Lavender to put some spirits to rest.
  • I think there was a Rival in the way, but I couldn't notice much of a resistance.
  • I train too much.
  • Rushed all the way to Saffron after giving the guard some Tea.
  • Went to poke fun at the Fighting Dojo. Grabbed a Hitmonlee to box and PalPark.
  • More Rockets? Okay, prepare for lift off.
  • Began sweeping through Silph.Co
  • Beat my Rival again.
  • "We meet again, Giovanni. Let me show you your proper.... place... oh hello level 41 Nidoqueen. Finally a challenge."

Decided to call it a day for now after I got a Lapras and boxed it also. (...I like gift pokemon...)

Well, I guess I'm kind of cheating on this one, seeing as I started the challenge on the old thread. Anyway, solo'd with my starter Treecko until I made it to Petalburg Woods, where I caught my first team member, my Shroomish, whom I nicknamed Raptor. Using the Shroomish, I destroyed the first 2 Gyms, leveling it until it evolved into a Breloom, at which point I was able to use it to solo the Mauville gym. After that, I went North and caught my second team member, a Numel named Pangaea. Anyway, I won't be posting any screenshots because I'm not playing on an emulator, instead I'm opting to go old school and play it on my GBA.

  • I left off last time after beating up Giovanni in Silph.Co
  • So... next up was Sabrina's Gym... dat Alakazam. All the recovers...
  • Anyhow. Both Candy and Sniper took out the teams, although that Furture Sight almost one-shotted Sniper.
  • But finally!! Surf and Strength are in sight.
  • I opted to go through the Cycling Road and avoid as many trainers as I could remember there, because I think I need to train up a new team member soon.
  • Knocked out a Snorlax, just because.
  • Yay! Fuchsia City - Safari Zone
  • I was thinking about this particularly long, just because I'm so used to the new Johto safari zone with no limits.
  • Did the Warden's Tooth quest first. Caught a Rhyhorn - Miner.
  • Found HM04 Strength, taught it to Bandit.
  • Taught Miner HM03 Surf to finish the quest.
  • Went back to look for a Tauros.
  • ...found only one Tauros who ran off.
  • Decided to go train up Miner on Route 12 and Cycling Road and call it a day.

Update #3 for Emerald:
I didn't feel like updating much last time. I was doing pretty much a solo run with Gardevoir. Here's the "short" of it:
Spoiler:
  • Made my way through Fiery Path to Fallabor Town. Ran around in the soot to make two flutes. Confusion and Sleep ones.
  • Caught my second official team member - Swablu, named her Claudia.
  • Finally more or less retired Claude the Mudkip (lvl 27), who had been bravely saving Tamara from evil Dark types. He was still at the back of the party with my HM zigzagoon.
  • Spooked up some Grunts at Meteor Falls.
  • Trained up Claudia a lot. >__> All the skipped trainers since Slateport.
  • Made my way back up to Mt.Chimney, with Claudia steadily training. Maxie's Mightyena gave me some trouble. Claude actually had to step in to Water gun it down.
  • Took on Flannery. It took a few tries, since Claudia didn't have much anything but to set up things.
  • Moving right along, taught Strength to Claude (he was the only one capable of), went to explore the desert.
  • Didn't bother with the fossils, since I suck at riding the bike in this game.
  • Finally I went back home to get an Amulet Coin.
  • Challenged my father to a duel of fates. Thank god Slaking has Truant.
  • Taught my Zigzagoon Surf.
  • Went to explore the Abandoned Ship - Ice Beam get.
  • Began my treck up to Fortree City.
  • Stopped by the Weather institute to kick some Aqua Grunts out of the building.
  • Got Pietro the Castform.
  • Trained up Pietro a bit... "A bit" is an overstatement.
  • Beat May with mostly Pietro.
  • Arrived to Fortree City finally. Got Hidden Power TM.
  • Steven taught me about Kecleons.
  • Went to challenge the gym after a few rounds of training.
  • Frozen poultry.
  • Also went to grab Sunny Day TM from near by since now it'll be useful later on.
  • Arrived to Lilycove.
  • Got a a pokeblock case after beating May again. *sigh* Repetitive I know.
  • Derped around a lot, training and picking up items left and right before I remembered where to go.
  • Magma Hideout after spooking up a few Grunts at Mt.Pyre.
  • Oops... I think we woke up Groudon with Maxie.
  • Flew over to Slateport to watch the interview and hi-jacking.
  • Went to bounce at Aqua Hideout. Master Ball.
  • Surfing steadily to Mossdeep City. Avoiding trainers at all costs.
  • Aww yis! Super Rod!
  • Flew back to Fortree and to Route 119
  • ...and began fishing. (This is where I was at on my last LG update...)

The Team so far:

Tamara | Gardevoir | 42
Psychic / Shadow Ball / Teleport / Confusion

Claudia | Altaria | 44
Dragon Dance / Fly / Ice Beam / Dragon Breath

Pietro | Castform | 38
Weather Ball / Powder Snow / Shock Wave / Rain Dance

Claude | Mudkip | 27

Update #4 for Emerald:
Spoiler:
  • Finally caught a Feebas. Actually more than one. Just because they're a pain to find.
  • Planted a lot of berries - Kelpsy, Hondew and Cornn.
  • Made a lot of Pokeblocks. Yes, you can make them on your own. *sigh*

That's about it for this update. Still waiting for new berries to be pickable.
Yeah, Claude is still hanging in there as a mascot untill I get Dive.

The Team so far:

Tamara | Gardevoir | 44
Psychic / Shadow Ball / Teleport / Confusion

Claudia | Altaria | 45

Chapter 1: Lost

I awoke in the pit of my Time Machine. It was dark. Dark enough to pierce the soul of a man's heart. I opened the hatch to see where I was, only to find that everything was in ruins. The air was thick, and hard to breath. I looked around to find newspaper. The picture on the front page was that of a war time scenario, with troops marching out to fight. However, I could not read the writing on the paper, as it was in a language I had never seen before. Just how far had I gone? I scrounged for anything I could find, until at last I came upon what seemed to be a ruined laboratory. There were 3 Pokeballs sitting on a table. I reached out to grab one of them, the familiar feel tethering me to my lost home. But as I took the ball from the table, the building began to shake, sinking into the ground! I scrambled away from the collapsing building as quick as I could, bringing the mysterious Pokeball with me. The other two Pokeballs were lost to the collapse, leaving me with only the one. What Pokemon waits inside for me?

Rewy March 20th, 2013 4:05 PM

Update #5 LeafGreen !Final
Spoiler:
  • Ugh, where was I last time? Fuchsia.
  • Lots of training happened. I just accidentally killed all the legendary chickens...
  • Lots of gyms were beaten. More about that below...
  • Many berries were being grown on my Emerald in the mean time.
  • Blaine was being an ass with his fire pokemon, because I didn't really have a fast enough pokemon to deal with them.
  • Giovanni was just hit&run on my side. I had to set up Sunny Day and keep beaming down the dinosaurs.
  • E4 was okay... ish. I mean I wish I had some of my usual versatile types, but playing by the rules makes it so. Also I really missed having water and ice types to just bulldoze all the way to Lance.
  • And past him. I had to keep using Protect to stop the silly dragons from Outraging me to death. I wanted to be more creative with my move uses, but in the end I just went with no-strategy-full-power style like I usually do. (I mean a fully special Rhydon would've been hilarious...)

The Team @ E4:

Bandit | Primeape | 57
Brick Break / Protect / Low Kick / Strength

Sniper | Fearow | 54
Drill Peck / Pursuit / Mimic / Fly

Candy | Persian | 52
Bite / Pay Day / Shock Wave / Dig

Miner | Rhydon | 58
Body Slam / Earthquake / Rock Tomb / Surf

Spirit | Rapidash | 55
Bounce / Overheat / Solar Beam / Sunny Day

Update #5 for Emerald
Spoiler:
Neveragain3rdGenMilotic.
So I've been without updating here a lot, because I don't think it's entertaining for anyone to be reading about me groaning about berries and pokeblocks. So... yeah...

  • I'll just update the team clause and tell that I'm at Victory Road. Getting ready to whack Wally off the map again.
  • I had fun looking for Chinchou. Well, more fun than a Feebas because it was humongously much easier to find. (Not to mention to evolve into Lanturn.)
  • Juan was sort of fun. Not too hard, just annoying to get to since I missed one tile in the gym puzzle and fell right down to the... I don't know... room full of ladies.

So anyhow, world has been saved and I'm going to... well probably finish off this thing next time. E4 and Wallace to go, but that'll probably be just team updates. *sigh* It was a fun challenge at the start, but that Milotic training sort of kills the joy from it.

The Team so far:

Tamara | Gardevoir | 55
Psychic / Shadow Ball / Teleport / Protect

Claudia | Altaria | 54
Dragon Breath / Fly / Ice Beam / Dragon Dance

Pietro | Castform | 51
Weather Ball / Solar Beam / Shock Wave / Sunny Day

Leonardo | Milotic | 50
Surf / Hidden Power (Dragon) / Recover / Toxic

Simone | Lanturn | 53
Thunderbolt / Waterfall / Confuse Ray / Hyper Beam

Claude | Mudkip | 27 (the mascot of the team, because I couldn't think of anything else)
Water Gun / Flash / Dive / Strength

Itemwise this wasn't really challenging for Emerald. Neither was my LeafGreen, because I kept finding things just to sell to trade and buy better. And I rarely do that even on my normal plays.
Mostly it wasn't challenging either, because of the Teleport I left on my Gardevoir. I could just port back to heal if something got really hectic. I barely ever ran away from battle though. From any random battle. Oh well...

waters_echo March 26th, 2013 2:29 AM

Oh! We're on the liiist.

Called ourselves Hass, started a while ago, the choice between marowak and graveller the game very succinctly made for us.

Trainer Hass
Badges: Zephyr, Hive, Plain, Fog, Glacier, Storm, Mineral, -
Team:
ThylaLeos
Typhlosion, M, Lv52, Charcoal
Flame wheel, ember, smokescreen, swift

Angel
Dunsparce, M, Lv52, Pink bow
Rage, screech, glare, pursuit
- <3

WrathClaws
Ursaring, M, Lv52, King's rock
Slash, faint attack, lick, fury swipes

Sun
Graveller*, M, Lv52, Hard stone
Rock throw, defence curl, rollout, earthquake

BurningRed
Parasect, F, Lv52, Quick claw
Slash, spore, poisonpowder, leechlife

NeedeSile
Nidoking, M, LV52, Blackbelt
Strength, surf, double kick, focus energy

We went looking for a teddiursa and found Angel pretty promptly, so we caught him. He is amazing and awesome.
I am using him to beat up all the gyms.
We then spent quite a while longer training him and trying to find a teddiursa that wouldn't run off the second we hit it.
Got WrathClaws. He is a terrifying powerhouse who has 37 points of Attack on the next strongest (Sun) (180 to 143).
Eventually got to Union Cave, whereupon, having entered the second floor, we had our marowak/graveller question answered for us as we caught Sun.
We moved into Ilex Forest and caught BurningRed, and we trained.
Eventually, having plotted through the area, we moved on to Goldenrod, and eventually caught NeedeSile. Much later. After-we-got-sudowoodo later. After-we-fought-the-Kimono-Girls later.
Training and such.
We caught a Tauros for water travel until we got a moonstone... then realised that qwilfish was a better choice. So we went and got one of those, too.
We went and got a moonstone after we got the Fog badge, but trained until we were over level 36 before evolving NeedeSile.

Thus far we're training pre-Rising badge/eighth gym, having kicked Team Rocket out of the Radio Tower.

(Optional) King Arthur: Your team must be based of Arthurian Characters
- I was wondering how you see this? Can you give an example maybe? :)

Also, you have banned types and "your team may consist of" - types. But there are also other types, may those be used or not?
What about a Swellow by example, it is normal/flying. Normal is a banned type but flying isn't mentioned? Other non-mentioned types together with types that are allowed is okay he? (ex. Crawdaunt)

Sorry for these questions, I must have missed some information somewhere I guess. :embarrass

Well, the point of the types list for each Era is for the challenger to use those types that match the Era. Else, it wouldn't really be much of a challenge. So basically, if other types aren't mentioned, you don't use them. Unless they're dual-type and one of the types matches the Era.
As for the dual types with 1 type on the Era types list and one type on the Banned types list.... you can't use those.

Now on to the Arthurian Characters part xD
Basically, you have to choose Arthurian Characters from the list and find Pokémon that match the Era types that would be representative of the said characters. For example, let's say you chose King Arthur. You then think of a Pokémon that could represent King Arthur, like I don't know, let's say Escavalier. And you do that for the entire team.

Chapter 2: Dexter

Spoiler:
As I began to walk away from the abandoned lab, I heard the wreckage shift. As I turned to look, a figure burst forth from underground, launching into the air. He landed on all fours, his figure a slinky, undernourished form. His eyes were milky white, and his hair a pale brown, shuffled in a messy manner. "Who's there!" he shouted.

I stood perfectly still, gripped with fear at the strange being before me. "I may not be able to see, but I can still smell you," he said as he sniffed the air. I noticed a Pokeball clutched in his right hand.

"Y-you have a Pokemon?" I asked timidly.

He smiled. "Yes, I do. You took one of them too, didn't you? You took one of my grandpa's Pokemon didn't you!?!" He screamed at me as he threw the Pokeball. A blue turtle emerged from the ball. It seemed like it had been unaffected by whatever destroyed this place. I drew my ball up, determined to survive this nightmare, and threw it, revealing a red lizard of some sort with a fire on the end of its tail.

The two Pokemon stared each other down for what felt like an eternity before I heard an unfamiliar voice. It spoke in words I could not understand, perhaps speaking that strange language in the newspaper. As I looked around I spotted a small, red tablet computer. I picked it up to see an image of a human silhouette with lines running vertically and horizontally through it, and a separate line moving up and down the image. Suddenly, a laser shot out and ran up and down my body. "Scan complete. Language set to English," it said in a soft, reassuring male voice.

"What?"

"I am a Pokedex mk. X model, portable AI unit. You can call me Dexter."

"Er, hi, Dexter." Suddenly, a picture of my Pokemon appeared on the screen, with a list of 2 moves. "Charmander, level 5," it said.

"Charmander, use Scratch!" I cried, determined yet again. The Squirtle rushed my Charmander, tackling him to the ground. Charmander bared its claw and slashed the Squirtle across the face, breaking free from its hold. It then went on the offensive, assaulting the Squirtle with a flurry of attacks until eventually, the Squirtle fell to the ground unconscious.

"Grrrrrr." The boy scowled. He recalled Squirtle to his Pokeball and ran away. "I'll get that Charmander back! I have your scent! Smell you later!" he shouted back at me.

I fell to the ground, relieved that that craziness was over. "A Charmander, eh? Guess I picked well."

"If you don't mind me saying so, it may be a good idea to move on, the sun will be gone soon and there is an old city nearby, Viridian City."

"Hm? I suppose you're right, it's probably not safe here," I said as I stood back up, and began walking off with my Charmander at my side. I may not know where I am, but I will find a way to get back to my own time. I have to...

then what is the difference between banned types and non-mentioned types o_o? i mean if you can use a dual-typed pokemon whose type is normal/flying while normal is banned and flying is allowed what is the role of banned types?

Necrum March 28th, 2013 6:44 AM

Any dual type pokemon is acceptable as long as it has one of the allowed types, and doesn't have a banned type. If a Pokemon has only not mentioned types, you still can't use it. Does that make more sense?

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about this, KagamiChan.

Warship March 28th, 2013 10:44 AM

i think i get it so i cannot have a lunatone in stone age(rock types are allowed, psychic types are banned) but i can have a ludicolo (grass is allowed, water is not mentioned)

That's the way I understand it, but wait for KagamiChan to confirm this. I don't wanna be intruding on her challenge.

How about these ideas?

Ice Age
Era Types: Ice, Water, Rock and Ground
Mandatory:
Generation I: Dewgong
Generation II: Piloswine
Generation III: Walrein
Generation IV: Froslass/Mamoswine
Generation V: Cryogonal
Banned: Electric types, Grass types, Bug Types
Era Rules: You may not use the Poke Mart because there are no markets. You must rely on what you are given
Johto games Rules: Once you are able to reach the Kanto region, Normal Types can join your team

Feudal Japan Era
Era Types: Poison, Dark, Bug, Fighting
Mandatory:
Generation I: Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan
Generation II: Ariados/Crobat
Generation III: Hariyama
Generation IV: Gallade/Toxicroak
Generation V: Bisharp
Banned: Grass Types, Electric Types, Water Types
Era Rules: As your Pokemon represent the army of Feudal Japan, you may only shop from each Poke Mart once, representing your army not stopping in the village.
Johto games Rules: Once you are able to reach the Kanto region, Steel Types are allowed to join your team.

The Roaring Twenties
Era Types: Normal Types, Psychic, Dragon, Ice
Mandatory:
Generation I: Persian
Generation II: Granbull/Blissey
Generation III: Delcatty/Slaking
Generation IV: Purugly/Lopunny
Generation V: Cinccino
Banned: Dark Type, Bug Type, Fighting Type
Era Rules: You must buy something from every Poke Mart and may not sell any items.
Johto games Rules: Once you are able to reach the Kanto region, Steel Types and Electric Types are allowed to join your team.

Any of those any good? I got really bored at work today.

Yes, you got that right. You can use any dual-types with one type on the Era types list and 1 type that isn't mentioned.

I like the idea of an early 1900's option, like that Roaring 20s suggestion, but I don't fully get some of the choices in the pitch. For example, what does Dragon type have to do with that time period? That seems more like a ban list to me. And, considering the high mobster activity at the time, I would think that Dark should be an allowed type, not a banned one. Psychic kind of fits in, but I also don't quite get Ice. I certainly think it's a wonderful idea, but imo it needs some tweaking.

EDIT: Maybe instead of the Roaring 20s, it could be the Industrial Revolution, so it can fit more than a 10 year span?

Well, I'm open to all sorts of suggestions & stuff regarding new Eras. So feel free to drop me a VM & stuff. For example, the Post-Apocalyptic Scenario was all LiquidRage's idea. He PMed me and I loved it. And the Medieval Era was built in the trade corner IRC xD

Ice and Dragon because to me, they always seemed quite extravagant types, and the era is dripping with opulence. Dark is banned because the 20s were supposed to be a happy period, and dark is kind of the opposite.

The industrial revolution is a good one. I'd do that.

Update #1
Currently stuck in: Jurrasic Jam
Badges: 0
Team:
Tokay - Treecko - Lv 13
Firmin - Surskit - Lv 7
Xtina - Lotad - Lv 9
Smurfette - Dustox - Lv 10

I'm saving the other two spots for a Lileep and a Numel. I'm enjoying this more than any other challenge because of the thematicness, as opposed to the simplicity of a monotype challenge.

Quick question though - If one of the mandatory requirements clashed with a banned type, what would you do? i.e. on Jurassic Jam, choosing to revive a Shieldon. I feel like the Shieldon would be allowed, because it evidently existed then, even though steel is forbidden. Can we get an official ruling on this please?

StinkomanFan March 28th, 2013 7:29 PM

Part Two! Hopefully with more progress!
Spoiler:

Mom gave me the Running Shoes. The good thing about the future is that cars and motorcycles are socially awkward and another exercise craze has taken over!
I wish the moms in these games actually did something... like call or visit instead of staying at home and drowning their troubles in Eighties Movies...
"I finished sketching the rare Pokemon's footprints! But they were my own!" I am slightly surprised, and saddened, that this man had not drowned in his bathtub
Youngster Calvin, Bug Catcher Rick, Lass Tiana... Why do all these seven year olds have Pokemon? And where do they get this money?
This poor kid is trapped in tall grass... He will not live to see tomorrow...
Arthur knows the power of the flame! (He learned Ember)
Talked to some random dude. He wanted a statement, he got it. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite me...
A random jerk keeps refusing to let me leave!
I meet Wally, a poor kid with a deadly disease that had claimed thousands in the years since it was discovered. But he's born with incredible luck, as he found a frigging RALTS! First try!
Finally got one of my own as well! It was even a woman!

SAMUS, lvl 4, has joined the team!
Ability: Synchronize
Calm Nature

She only knows Growl though, but she will learn.
Also, I had to grind like CRAZY to find her!

TEAM:
Spoiler:

ARTHUR, level 14
Moves: Scratch, Growl, Focus Energy, and Ember
Ability: Blaze
Nature: Relaxed

SAMUS, level 4
Moves: Growl
Ability: Synchronize
Nature: Calm

See you tomorrow!

Well, Jurassic Jam is an exception concerning dual-types with one type on the Era Types list and one type on the Banned Types list since you are REQUIRED to revive and use any fossil Pokémon that you obtain in your game.

you kinda have to use all Era Rules unless there's an (Optional) tag on any of them (like in the Medieval Era)

Welcome to the challenge.

Cossolotto32 March 29th, 2013 2:13 PM

I had to go through the first part of the game using Chikorita, I named the rival in my game 'Dust' simply because in the 1930's the Dust Bowl moved hundreds of farmers west because the living conditions were too harsh. So I figured since I was doing the Westward Era, I'd name him that!

Damn, that first gym was sure a struggle. With just Oujia (Gastly) and no attacks that directly hit the Normal/Flying combo I had to put them asleep just to curse them and wait till the death. We finished the gym and headed south toward Azalea town!

We caught the second member of our team Bogut the Onix! Fighting team rocket right now in the slowpoke well:)

I'm slightly insulted by this. Of course I'm using the Era Rules.

On your sign-up it just seemed that you're only using the Sphinx rule, when you need to use both (Sphinx and Slave) since neither are marked optional.

I beat Roxanne and Brawly today. Xtina (Lotad) evolved into Lombre. I used Dustox (with Confusion and Gust) to sweep Brawly.

I caught a Magikarp and am going to use it in lieu of a fire type; Gyarados with Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Ice Beam and Waterfall.

Another question: in Jurassic Jam, can I use the Mauville Game Corner so I can get TMs? I really hope so.

Well, I kept the Era pretty much the way the person that suggested it was. And the only exception to every banned types list is the mandatory Pokémon. I do know that some of the Mandatory ones are of types that are listed under banned types (like some of the fossil pokémon in the Jurassic Jam and Lucario in Egyptian Era), but the Mandatory Pokémon were chosen to better represent each Era. So you can say they're your work-around for the banned list.

Ah, I understand. Lucario was based on the Egyptian God Anubis (It's the accepted theory) so I was kind of hopeful to have a Lucario named Anubis to go with my Purrloin named Bastet... <_< Yeah... All of my Egyptian Pokes are named after Egyptian Gods so far. I understand, though. I caught a Riolu and boxed him, because I wasn't sure I could use him.

Update 1:

Current Pokemon:

Level 15 Purrloin, Nicknamed Bastet

Level 12 Pidove, Nicknamed Nekhbet

Update 2-
Easily got trhough bugy's gym with some rock throws from Bogut. Gastly got some minutes against the rival on our way inside the forest area. We caught the farfetch'd's and headed north toward goldenrod. Finished off a bunch of noob trainers and went to the radio tower to get whitney back into the gym

I challenged the gym with Bogut and he took every attack the jigglypuffs and clefairys threw at him. Miltank came uon us and attracted both Ouija and Bogut every time they came out, so the battle was a little stretched out. We won though!

Going north, fighting some more trainers, wee got our third member! Sudowoodo! Named him Cedar. Just finishing the rival battle in the burnt tower, Now standing in the face of Mortty and his Gengars powerful Shadow Ball :(

OHMYGOD AWESOME.

I'm happy because it's became so much cooler, but sad because it means I have to do more work to pass the challenge! But am happy because it means more Pokémon! :D

Okay, I'm going to do this update now since it is late.

*I started the game, named myself POS (It was suppose to be POST but I was using the speed button)
*Got a charmander, named it Kyle and lost my first fight
*Helped oak, got the town map and captured a weedle (Cartman), who showed me my first taste of how bitter this challenge would be.
*After dying countless times (no joke either. If Pokemon were real, they would get me for abuse because of how many times they died) BUT Cartman finally evolved to a beedrill.
*After getting Kyle to level 14, I challenged Brock, using metal claw to destroy his whole team and he evolved.
*After dying again to use the Pokecenter, I went and caught a Nidoran♀ (Bonnie), I ran up to the Pokecenter near Mt. Moon so I could be revived near it. Cue another 'Train until you all die' session until I got Bonnie to evolve, in which I finally used it without having to faint (I also had no money at all :| ). Also caught a Geodude (Amber).
*I was able to go through Mt. Moon pretty quickly thanks to the team, taught Bonnie (after getting her to Level 22 for bite and then evolving her with the moon stone) Mega Kick and Kyle Mega Punch. Also defeated Gary in Cerulean.
I lost TONS of times (more than when I was trying to evolve Cartman into a Beedrill) against Misty. I instead went up Nugget Bridge and to Bill's house to train (and get those tickets for the ship). Went back and died a few more time but finally won with Mega Kick from Bonnie and Twineedle from Cartman.
*Down to Vermillion, where I defeated my rival again and then got cut (which I taught Cartman). Also defeated Lt. Surge with Amber and got her to evolve to a Graveler. I then went to the Pokecenter and evolved her again into a Golem.
*Back up and around Cerulean, I went through Rock Tunnel (where I caught an Onix, who I named Mendy) and into Lavender Town, where I defeated my Rival again.
*More grinding until I got to Celadon, where I went and grabbed Eevee (Mike) and bought a Fire Stone to evolve it into Flareon.
*Took out the gym here and Erika with only Kyle (had to stop it from evolving so I could keep using it). Went through Rocket's Liar and defeated Giovanni to get the Scope.
*Started to sell a lot of stuff and grabbed the Coin Case. Went to the Game Corner, where I was finally (FINALLY!) able to buy a Pinsir (Yeah, I'm pretty much poor again thanks to the dang thing :\ )
*Back to Lavender Town, I was able to get a Ghastly, who I've trained up to a Haunter and then traded to evolve into a Gengar.

Update 3-
Morty proved to be a tough challenge, I wasn't able to beat him with my core team of Ouija, Bogut, and Cedar, as they all got PWND by shadow ball!

I advanced to the next route and met up with 2 new members of our team! Jacomella the Miltank! And Slater the Tauros. Since both Pokemon have a pretty low encounter rate on route 38 in SS, it took a while to find them, but gave us a chance to level up and get everyone caught up.

My team of 5 took on the next rout full of trainers. It gave me a good opportunity to get to know my new friends! We arrived at Olivine City and scaled the lighthouse! We picked up some numbers for our Pokegear after beating up some trainers, and caught up with Jasmine at the top.

She asked us to help out Ampharos as he appeared sick, and that involved surfing to Cianwood. So I headed back east to help out the kimono girl in Ekruteak and got surf which was taught to Slater. (Surfing Tauros;))

Currently we are surfing, battling any trainer we see, to Cianwood to get our next gym badge and pick up the secret medicine for Ampharos!

Until next time!

Update #6 for Emerald !Final
Spoiler:

Well finally took on the E4 few days ago. I ran around victory road leveling up Claude to kill time while trying to get the hang of using Castform effectively.
It took a few tries to actually get the monster of a Gyarados down from Wallace, but thankfully Sunny Day shut down half of it's power and confusion made it hit itself a few times for softening up.
Wailord... let us not talk about Water Spout. Ever.
The rest of the team were sort of pushovers eventually. Not thinking about too many tactics and just bulldozing through.

The Team @ E4:

Tamara | Gardevoir | 57
Psychic / Shadow Ball / Teleport / Protect

Claudia | Altaria | 56
Dragon Breath / Fly / Ice Beam / Dragon Dance

Pietro | Castform | 53
Weather Ball / Solar Beam / Shock Wave / Sunny Day

Leonardo | Milotic | 55
Surf / Hidden Power (Dragon) / Recover / Toxic

Simone | Lanturn | 55
Thunderbolt / Waterfall / Confuse Ray / Hyper Beam

Claude | Mudkip | 42 (the mascot of the team, because I couldn't think of anything else -exp-share leveled up)
Protect / Flash / Dive / Strength

Just in case it was missed out with the mass of people joining the challenge, but my LeafGreen final post was here: -link-

yes, playing on hacks is allowed, but you have to decide when the challenge ends. Depends on how great the difference between the hacked version and the original one is o.o

yes, Crobat is(was) banned.
I answered a question related to dual types with one allowed type and one banned type a page back xD
you can't use those. unless they're on the Mandatory Pokémon list.

EDIT: changed Umbreon for Crobat on Gen 2 Mandatory Pokémon for the Mobster Mania.
By Gen 2 I also mean the remakes and hacks of remakes >.> so you're free to get Crobat cause you have to xD lol

HOLY CRAP, Tennant is making her dues already! After her second battle she found a RARE CANDY! What kind of statistical impossibility is THAT?!
How common is a Surskit found in Route 102? Never?
Sorry about the really terrible update with lack of... anything, but I needed to get my team up to par.
