We each have our own opinion. Just respect that and don't vomit in this thread please :)

EDIT: I read this on the wikipedia page for Series 8 and found it really cool. But I did like the last 11th Doctor intro a bit better. At least the song.

Quote:

Design changes
The introduction of a new lead actor brought about another change to the title sequence. The sequence for Series 8 was inspired by a fan-made sequence produced by Billy Hanshaw, an illustrator and 3D animator, who posted it on Youtube. This eventually came to the attention of Steven Moffat, who subsequently based the official sequence on Hanshaw's work.[73][74][75]
EDIT2: I just saw Robot of Sherwood :D or whatever episode 3 was called again. It was fun, but the thing that struck me the hardest as the soundtrack nerd I am was that in the trailer for the next episode at the end, they used music from Season 1! Rose in Peril I believe it was called. Fun :3

TRIFORCE89 September 7th, 2014 4:17 PM

I've been away on vacation. I think I've missed two episodes. Going to catch up on them now.

I did watch six episodes from Tenth's series though on my trip as plane fare

EDIT: Okay. Watched them. I know nothing of Classic Who, I don't know if Twelve is more like that so far or not. To me, compared to the last three Doctors this one just... doesn't seem to care? Like he's not having fun

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. But each Doctor is unique and changes the show in his own way. I guess we'll either keep loving it or not love it as much. Don't think I can stop watching it :)

I also just feel the need to share this adorable moment by the Eight Doctor:

I just love the randomness and Grace's look xD

Mark Kamill September 9th, 2014 12:27 AM

Okay, missed the last two, started episode 2 a couple of minutes ago. I love the new theme, everyone is crazy for hating it. Especially the hammers in the beginning that go along with the cogs. Anyway, this episode, it started out good, I think. Dom Com stuff is a bit NuWho, but I don't mind it at all. The head-desk bit was touching, and it actually felt like the response of someone who can't gather courage to ask out someone else.(But dude, WTF, Jenna Coleman starts hitting on you, you don't say no!) As for the doctor, damn. 3 weeks. At least Clara is getting used to the indifference of this Doctor, and so am I. Its nice to see some I don't give a ****s from the main character of a show these days, everyone's so gung-ho on TV in general. Will update post when episode is over. HOLY CRAP. Just got to the uh....stomach scene. Yeah, doctor might be going a bit far.
Edit: 15 minutes into robin hood. The arching butt being blown up by the screwdriver after the doctor basically saying "Screw It" is my favorite NuWho moment now. Just soooo good. Overall this episode is eh, campy and a fun romp. Nothing more.

TRIFORCE89 September 14th, 2014 3:30 PM

What'd everybody think of "Listen"?

Spoiler:
I thought it would end up being about the Silence or something similar. In the end it was about... nothing at all?

Zeffy September 14th, 2014 5:18 PM

WHY AM I NOT A MEMBER OF THIS

I honestly like the 12th. He reminds me of the classic doctors (which some people might not even know of). He's so indifferent and crazy, I love it.

Note: spoiler might contain spoiler about Listen (surprise surprise). open with caution!
Spoiler:
I was honestly expecting the Silence as well. During the scene with Rupert where the thing in his bed took off the blanket covering it/him/her, I swear to god what I saw was a Silent. Pretty freaky episode but slightly disappointed with the ending. I'm looking forward to the next episode, though. The trailer seemed interesting c:

Yeah, about that moment. So.... was it just a kid playing a prank or was it a creature evolved to being well-hidden at all times? Was the Doctor right or was he just remembering that night as a kid?

moon September 14th, 2014 9:55 PM

Welcome Zef!

Yeah it was... A too Moffat-y episode. He built up stuff and then tossed everything out the window without making sense :(
And
Spoiler:
Did Clara take the TARDIS to Gallifrey in the past? That's... Not supposed to be possible, is it? And why didn't Clara have to look into the Heart of the TARDIS like Rose to pilot the ship when the Doctor was out? That mental interface came out of the blue. And the end of the universe... He has already been there and it was black without stars, not fricking pink.

I keep being disappointed in this series in a way I never was with the last Doctor. Mumble rumble...

countryemo September 15th, 2014 12:17 PM

Ok to answer you guy's questions, this is what I think about it.

Spoiler:

There is a creature I believe, but instead of lettings his curiousty possibly kill him, he let it go. As for the silence deal, how? When you saw the blanket that short, that small, how was it a silence, and why would it be there? Also like we thought Silence were in Journey, never assume its the silence. xD

As for Gallifrey, I don't think the Barn is on it. Is it the same barn in the 50th? I think its a near by planet or something really. Which raises some more questions about the Doctors past. I think it was a childrens home of sorts that he was sent to in prep to be a army, than sometime later the Doctor escaped that part and was able to go to the academy on Gallifrey.

With the end of the universe thing.. I don't know. With the tenth doctor it seemed like there was still planets, still life but on its last legs, this is past there, one planet, no life, he didn't go far the last time because the safety was on or something like that. As for the mental interface that was there in 7b, and maybe earlier but I don't remember. Thats why Clara didn't have to do a Rose, maybe the doctor added to prevent that from happening again to him. But I don't understand how she ended up in the Doctors past, well I guess she did with Ruperts, she and the doctor are connected.

I personally loved the episode, like Hide I kind of wish they kept the scary theme all the way through. I also kinda disliked forcing Danny on to us, his future and past, and clara going back and 'helping' the doctor again. But besides that it was pretty solid.

moon September 15th, 2014 12:24 PM

Spoiler:
Clara helping the Doctor in the past is already a thing sort of so I wasn't too much against that. As long as it wasn't Gallifrey :p

Oooh maybe that's why he chose that barn in the 50th? Aha!

I was so scared throughout Hide!

Also hi I'm Doctor again~

TRIFORCE89 September 15th, 2014 6:38 PM

For those keeping up with my effort to catch up on the series. I wrapped up Tenth's first series tonight

I'm surprised you don't know the story about it. Peter Capaldi is married, and he NEVER takes the wedding ring off, always in any show he does, he still wears it. So they usually design a way around it, they made a band to fit over his band. I don't remember what it's significance it held if they talked about it, but I might come on in the show later, its reportedly Gallifreyen.

Actually wait, probably not Gallifreyen. The ring makers son gave this story behind it:
Quote:

This timeless gold ring contains green amber collected by the Doctor on the planet Raxacoricofallapatorius. It reminds him of all the wars he has won but also all the lives he has taken. This thought lurks on his conscience to this day. To Peter, Best wishes being the New Doctor Who from Idris
Of course the BBC could give another explanation, but their usually pretty kind to kids with Doctor Who.

Just watched "The Shakespeare Code". Literally lol'ed at the "Expelliarmus!" at the end. I love this Doctor's love of pop culture. haha

Also liking Martha Jone's theme in the musical score.

moon September 18th, 2014 10:07 PM

There's quite a few cool episodes in the Martha and Donna series :) I should rewatch S3 just to look for clues for the series finale actually... Hint hint ;) And yeah, I just wished they had kept that nice quirk up, quoting Lion King and Harry Potter etc. He becomes less nerdy later.

Mark Kamill September 19th, 2014 12:10 AM

The donna era could have been the best NuWho series so far if they didn't have the horrible RTD looming over it. She was a great, no-**** companion, easily my favorite of all of the companions so far. All the love stuff with Rose was cringe-worthy, Martha was flatter then a piece of paper, and Amy went on faaaar too long. Rory was okay, and Clara unfortunately is getting into a character that's likely only getting another 8 eps. Otherwise she would be up there with Donna for me. But yeah, poor, poor Donna. Best Companion in the worst run of episodes. Except for the Adipode opener. Those things are adorable, and so is the doctor/Donna relationship.

moon September 19th, 2014 4:49 AM

It's really interesting how people can have such different opinions on the companions and adventures in DW. Thinking back, I loved Rose and Nine and Ten, but the big stories where Martha and Donna came into the picture and also Jack occasionally, were awesome imo. And I adore Amy Pond and think her and Rory's time in the TARDIS was amazing (but it should have ended after S6 with the Doctor letting them live a normal life together after River told them he was still alive imo). Clara's plot was cool but as a character she's not really unique and feels mostly like she's overstaying her welcome with Twelve.

Give us another Rory or Turlough already! Some fun male companion for a change!

Zeffy September 19th, 2014 5:46 AM

A bit disappointed with how they concluded Martha, to be honest. I'd rather not elaborate on it since some people might not have seen it, but basically she got married to another character who had something to do with a previous companion. Though I'm not fond of her entirely. I absolutely loved Donna. Amy was alright, but I'm not fond of how she was Eleventh's companion for far too long. Clara is...disappointing, to be honest. The plot that involved her was cool but I feel that it's too over the top.

What if the Doctor regenerated into a woman? :o Would he (err, she) grab a hold of a male companion? Moreover, is regenerating into a woman something that he's able to do? I know other Time Lords have done it, though I question whether it was influenced by said Time Lord's moral choices.

Not sure I'd like it if the Doctor flipped genders but...

S8 speculation:
Spoiler:
I like the theory about Missy being a regenerated Master 8) it would be so cool, she referred to the Doctor as her boyfriend and Missy isn't too far from Master etc.

Though... It's almost more likely that she is the Valeyard. An amalgation of the Doctor's dark traits, alluded to all the way from Classic Who. Considering how worried Twelve is about being a good man and all the things that he's done in his lives these days, it's not top farfetched a thought that they'll finally bring in the Valeyard at last. Thus actually a female Doctor.

Zeffy September 19th, 2014 6:29 AM

Spoiler:
Given that, isn't it a bit weird for the Doctor calling himself "my boyfriend"? Of everything that Missy had said, those words were the ones that left a mark. Though Missy being the Valeyard is really not too far fetched, seeing as he (or she?) was apparently originally created sometime during the Doctor's 13th incarnation. Could this mean that the 11th did some hijinks during his time alone? :o

11 is hijinks personified. And he lived for 1100 years something. So possibly stuff happened that he might not even remember himself, as 12.

Also have some cute Donna Martha Ten gifs ~<3

Anno September 20th, 2014 12:56 PM

Honestly... u.u I prefer RTD over Moffet as a showrunner. At least RTD kills characters and leaves them dead... and knows how to write women, not just girls.

That's a true point. River was quite girly despite being supposed to be more of a woman. Amy was fun because Karen Gillan carried the role well, imo.

I heard another thing too: in the RTD era, the Doctor's companions started off as common people who weren't special at all (a shopgirl, a med student and a temp with huge insecurities) but in their time with him, they grew as persons and became brilliant. Rose became a defender of the Earth in a parallel world, Martha became a cool military something and Donna saved reality and went on to finally find a husband and live a good life.

But Amy had the cracks in the universe and River Song plot revolving around her and Clara had half a season of mystery surrounding her. It wasn't until the end that Amy and Rory almost left the Doctor to live normal human lives instead, and it seems like Clara might do that at the end of S8... They were special right off the bat instead of feeling like regular people that we could connect with who then grew to become something more.

Zeffy September 20th, 2014 7:35 PM

Boop. Has anybody seen the latest episode yet? I'm really quite interested because they're supposedly robbing a bank, as hinted in the last episode's trailer haha

EDIT: additionally, i came across this peculiar image haha

The Void September 21st, 2014 4:07 PM

I haven't watched any of the newest series! To any who have: Compared to Matt Smith's first run, how is Peter Capaldi faring so far?
