Capaldi is a bat**** insane sociopath, with no regard to anybody's lives. Okay, over-exaggerating a bit, but he is nothing like Smith at all. Smith was a whimsical fairy tale character, Capaldi is Old-Who Doctor with a vengeance. Watching Listen now.

Spoiler:
Finally got around to Listen. Okay, I hate it when we get middle class sitcom England, but I'm somehow liking the Clara/Pink relationship sub-plot. Their awkward interactions are adorably believable, and its not some whimsical tv world perfect first date storytelling. If you told me this was based on a real 1st date gone wrong story, I would totally believe you. And that opening hot damn. Will say more later. Did they just reference Jenny with that "Dad Skills" line from Capaldi? And did they just have Clara literally create Danny Pink as a person? With his 8 year old self? Wibbly Wobbly Timey-Wimey indeed. I really want to see where they're gonna go with the two. Okay, and now they killed it. It would have been stupidly dangerous if both Clara's saw each other, wouldn't it? Jesus, she's playing with time too much, its crazy! This episode is delivering so much, this is what you watch the show for.

I liked the whimsical fairy-tale more. New Who was great with Tennant and Smith's craziness, it didn't have to go old school imo. This is the 21st century, not the 20th :) but I won't stop watching Twelve's run. The adventures are still cool and I hope Capaldi might get better pnce he gets rid of Clara ;)

Mark Kamill September 22nd, 2014 1:49 AM

Clara or no Clara Capaldi is amazing. If you think that he's not firing on all cylinders now, you are wrong. Although I do admit that I want to see if he gets softer or harder with clara's leaving. And yeah, done with listen. That was just insane, those last 16 minutes. Clara's screwing with time, THAT scene, it was almost perfect.

TRIFORCE89 September 22nd, 2014 2:58 AM

Capaldi is doing fine. It's just the character I'm not totally sold on yet. There's no fun in what that Doctor does

As long as we agree the barn wasn't on Gallifrey ;)

Anno September 22nd, 2014 3:56 AM

The barn canonically is on Gallifrey. And Gallifrey isn't time-locked anymore, but it's hidden. Usually the TARDIS wouldn't be able to get there, but because The Doctor disabled the limitations (allowing them to go to the end of the universe), I guess it allow them to go there, too.

Mark Kamill September 22nd, 2014 6:35 AM

Its on Gallifrey, I agree. The urgency in Clara's eyes(I love em to be honest) is enough to see that they should not be there, or at least its too early for them to be there. God knows what else would happen on top of the Doctor returning, like him meeting his child self for one.

Okay that explanation I can buy! :)

Shuttity up up up has to be the best catch phrase of the doctor. Time Heist was fun, if a bit unfocused. But eh, I usually go with the mantra that if a show can carry me for 40-50 minutes and I still want more that its good. And I loved the "I was going for minimalism and came out with a magician" line. The plot was pretty fun, and I love the presentation. Also is it me, or is the doctor gaining some humanity? Or at least seemingly so. Last but not least, what a low budget. I counted what, 3 sets?
Edit:Also catching up on the back end of 7. Only saw name/day of the doctor, to be properly catched up, but never the inbetween bits.

A couple times, for a few shots, looked like they were trying to go all Ocean's Eleven stylish and then didn't

Did not notice this o.o Hmm

Mark Kamill September 23rd, 2014 6:21 AM

Although the various rooms are different, the hall is the same throughout. You can tell in that one shot that looks foggy that it was just to hide the vault door.

moon September 23rd, 2014 1:13 PM

Hahaha I don't think about low budget things unless someone points it out. I read somewhere that "Fear Her" was incredibly low budget, which is why we didn't get any CGI (almost) and nearly no variation in setting (they stayed on one lil street). I knew I disliked that episode for some reasons, but after I read that, I'm not sure I can rewatch it in the same way again :p

Mark Kamill September 24th, 2014 1:34 AM

Jesus Christ, did you have to remind me of the episode?! The budget in RTD era was worse sure, but that episode didn't suck cause of that. The little kid read her lines all the way through, and the plot was terrible. Where's the bleach, I need to forget it all over again...

TRIFORCE89 September 24th, 2014 3:00 AM

lol I just watched that episode recently

Only upside is that the Doctor and Rose are really cute in it 8)

YOU'RE NOT MAKING IT ANY BETTER. I think my signature now fits for all who have an opinion I don't like.

Zeffy September 25th, 2014 4:32 AM

That's not exactly the best way of dealing with opinion you don't like but okay.

TRIFORCE89 September 28th, 2014 5:23 AM

lol The Doctor was awfully one-liney in "The Caretaker"

"No, nobody is safe.... but soon, yes, everybody is safe"

moon September 28th, 2014 6:29 AM

Ooh, I've got to go watch the new episode :33 I'll be back with plenty of opinions later, probably!

EDIT: There! Okay, imo that was the best episode of the season so far. Back to basics, somehow. Doctor mentioned River, aawh :D

And some things he said, yeah xD "The walls need sponging and there's a sinister puddle." "There has been a spillage."

TRIFORCE89 September 28th, 2014 11:47 AM

Yeah, I thought the River reference was a little surprising

Not overly. Clara knows her, after all :) it was more surprising in the first ep when he mentioned Amy.

Mark Kamill September 29th, 2014 7:45 AM

Damn was that a fine episode. I love the cold openings, much more natural then the rest of the series. One thing especially that comes off more natural as well is the sitcom feel. For the first time in 10 years they've finally nailed down the perfect balance of epic sci-fi and something fawlty towers like in the same episode. Not sure how I would feel about a teen companion if that's what Courtney would be, but maybe if they give us Danny as well along with her it could be fun.

I think Courtney was just a fun poke at the Doctor picking up random companions to the right and left, and also that he was worried about Clara leaving to be with Danny at some point instead. Clearly, Courtney didn't take too well to space travel :p

"there has been a spillage"

Mark Kamill September 29th, 2014 8:02 AM

Yeah, but it just felt like the way they introduced her along with how well they got along that it would be one of those things. Unless the next episode gives us a future Courtney, then it could be interesting.

moon September 29th, 2014 11:41 AM

Am I the only one who would really want to see a male companion to the Doctor?

... new fanfic idea xD
