sweet. The hack is promising. to the sprites, story and tiles. Great job looking forward To this.

Gold011 December 6th, 2013 1:49 PM

this seems promising, i hope this ends up better than dr1 when it comes to music and pokemons
because if memory serves me well, dr1 had default fire red music, and 4-5th gen pokemon had random cries of 1-3rd gen pokemon, which for some reason it ticks me off....for expample, it ticks me off having a shinx that sounds like a weddle or a snivy that sounds like a gulpin X__x
however storywise dr1 was pretty good, so i'm hoping that dr2 will best dr1 in what it lacked, and even storywise : P
just for curiosity, what will the starters be on this version of the game?, and will be shinx aviable on this version?

Starters are the fully evolved versions of DR's starters so Dragonite, Garchomp, and Salamence, all at lv 10.

PokeEpicStudios December 6th, 2013 6:22 PM

I hope I don't have to train to lv. 90 again

True, but for people like him, in my honest opinion, things need to be elaborated for him, + I'm trying to be a bit sympathetic so yeah...

I didnt play pokemon games for long so i have question about psyhical/special split.
Hyper beam is special type move ( i didnt know that till last week) so how that affect on gyarados.
He is a psyhical attacker but hyper beam is his signature move ( at least i think that it is) so how damage will be counted.
Will it be serious damage like in old games (gen 1 ,2)
or it will be useles like any special attack learned by gyarados?
Can please anyone explain it to me

ngoito December 7th, 2013 4:05 AM

just curious...will there be mega evolution?

His Hyperbeam would be poor which comes of 60 base attack. But you can still give him giga impact which is a physical version of hyper beam. Due to the split he can get a physical waterfall which also gives him a STAB.

Hyper Beam is NOT his signature move... (btw signature move means that only one Pokemon is capable of using it (just like Aura Sphere is often called Lucario's signature move but it's not as many legends can use it) but I know what you meant by that).
Gyarados has Waterfall or Aqua Tail as its main attacking moves. Hyper Beam never was a possibility.

Like the 1st Dark Rising , its Based on Firered

Can't Wait For Beta :)
I hope its More Bug Free than DR1

BobTheImam December 9th, 2013 9:28 AM

Looks promising. Other one had a lot of issues but was still fun nontheless. Couple of things I would like to see
Multiple abilities available (or at least the right abilities).
A lower curve of pokemon (don't want to have OU/Uber pokemon so quickly into the game)
Glitches that broke the game (zen headbutt, infinite sacred ash) gone.
Gen 4 mechanics, such as physical/special spread.
Good luck!

Oddball20007 December 9th, 2013 2:52 PM

Sounds great! I have just re-booted Dark Rising one and just got the first gym badge (I have to say I was originally disapointed that it wasn't a new Icon, same with the map however I just realized that you were a two-person team) Hopefully the overworld map as well as gym badges will be all new in DR2. Hope to test it soon!

IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE: OW Spriter

I finally finished the beta as of two days ago. However, there's just 1 thing that needs to be edited; The Heroine's OW Sprites.

Now wait! Before you go "Aw, no way! There's way too many frames for the heroine, I'm not helping her with all that", all of the Heroine's frames are already inserted/recolored in NSE, they just need a better touch-up. I would like for people who are good at OW spriting to volunteer to complete the Heroine of the game's OW Sprites. Most of'em are already done, just the running and walking sideways sprites need a bit cleaning up. I personally would do it, however I don't have much time due to finals this week and next week. Not to mention the beta is scheduled to release next friday. So whoever's up to it, feel free to msg me, I would greatly appreciate it, as would anyone else who's excited to play next friday.

Thanks For Reading.

Oddball20007 December 10th, 2013 10:04 AM

I'm not bad at overworld spriting, however the big picture (as in the in battle spriting) I am **** at. Msg me (Skype: Oddball20007: all that jazz) if you need anything done, and if you have something for me to work from that would be awesome. IE: A realistic photo. Also this is a fire red hack? It looks HG/SS ish from the screenshots! GG to all of you!

DarkRisingGirl December 10th, 2013 10:21 AM

Thanks.

Also, little announcement for the future; Dark Rising 3 won't be on a Rom. I'll be moving into Game Development after Dark Rising 2. So Dark Rising 3 will be developed using rmxp.

That's awesome. Finally this time all the barriers for you are now gone. Never thought it could get more better. Good luck!

I've actually just signed up so I could tell you how much I enjoyed DR1 and I am very much looking forward to DR2. Please do not alter the difficulty curve as some people are suggesting as that was the best part of the game (admittedly I would have been screwed without VS seeker and lucky Egg)
One improvements I would like to see if possible are the move sets. For example I sent a lot of time training my volcarona for it not to learn Quiver Dance, bug buzz or Fiery dance which ruined her really, there were lots of other moves on my pokes I was looking forward to when leveling up which never came.

Is this something you are looking at ?

Yeah, I'm so over Rom Hacking after this one. I edit one thing, something else messes up. I fix that something & than ANOTHER thing messes up. It's like a chain reaction of errors, it's ridiculous.

Yeah, I realized that was a problem for a lot of Pokemon. The physical/special split will help a lot of Pokemon that were struggling to be good in the first one. However, moves like Quiver Dance are out of my limitations to insert into the hack at this point. I really wish I could use MrDollSteak's Rom base with all of the new moves & animations, but it's too late now as I'm too far into the Hack at this point to patch it with my Rom. It'll ruin the Rom & there won't be no DR2 at all. The good news though is I made sure to give every Pokemon equal attention when editing their moves this time & made sure they will learn their best moves with what's available.

That's the thing with Rom hacking. Whether you like it or not, there are always bugs around, and it just proves how fragile the roms are. You mess 1 thing up and it all falls apart like dominoes. Just a random thought but, do you plan on using GlitchxCity's music for the game. Just had a hunch...

The special/physical split will make a huge improvement to the gameplay as will the lack of bugs that will come with having a big development team. Will you be releasing a level up move guide with the rom ? so we know what to expect/not expect from training our pokes

The music maker for this hack is xGal. He's done a very good job & proved his reliability. So his music is the only music for the hack other than Jillsandwich's music for the first city.

Like DR1, I'm leaving this Rom hack open & available for people who download it to use it as they see fit. Thus, you can use the program Yape to see what every Pokemon will learn as they level up. I don't recommend changing anything though as I would like for people to play the hack as I set it up to be played, but it's just a hack so if the person playing would like something different, like for example learning a different move for their Garchomp other than what I set it to learn, they are free to change it.
