Able to play up front and able to score regularly are different things though. Lakaku would probably be that man but I don't see him getting a long run in the side at Chelsea, yet.

I think Ba will move on. The rest seem to be winger come strikers, that German fellow and Moses anyway.

Torres/Lakaku/somebody else is what I'd want in some sort of rotation system.

Eruption July 15th, 2013 7:37 AM

Man United bid for Fabregas, but apparently Arsenal are allowed to take up an option and sign him themselves. I would be very interested to see him at United I hope it happens. I'd rather he stayed in Barcelona if he was going to go back to Arsenal though.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough have been linked with a Napoli striker who cost them £12m a year ago. Seems a bit too promising.

Kit announcement shots are always so embarrassing. Think this away shirt will look great live though. First time I've felt the urge to buy a City shirt in a fair few seasons actually.
http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/sport/norwich_city_unveil_new_2013_14_away_kit_1_2281617

In other news this Quagliarella link won't go away, fuel added to the fire by the arrival of a private jet from Turin landing at Norwich International Airport. The money being mentioned is a lot, especially for a player that won't have a lot of resale value in a few seasons time, but I guess staying up this season is worth 60mill. I guess it all depends on his character really, is he willing to move to an unfashionable city in Norfolk? Can the club impress him? I'd hope the fact it is World Cup year and his current club have just signed Llorente and Tevez play a part in his decision.

Logan July 16th, 2013 11:27 AM

That's an awesome kit. In other news, I'm quite happy Southampton are sitting pretty with our dealings so far. Obviously Lovren is a huge signing and Wanyama is a HUGE man (seriously, he's a unit). However, easily our best signing (and possibly best ever) is the renewal of Luke Shaw's contract. Luke Shaw is seriously the real deal and has the potential to finish the season as the best left back in England and he's only 18.

Weeaboo Name July 16th, 2013 12:10 PM

Remember watching Shaw a few times last season, so composed on the ball and still loads of time to develop. That 5 year deal is indeed a good thing, even if he does move on you're going to be getting a lot of money.

Was speaking to a Celtic fan about Wanyama the other day, he reckons a few good years at saints and he'll be off to one of the Uniteds or Barcas of the world, he rates him that highly. Again, should have some massive resale value.

There sure are lot of parallels between our two clubs at this point in time. That being said I hope the Norwich vs Saints games are a little more exciting next season (I still can't believe Holty missed that peno at Carrow Road, however dodgy it may have been).

Eruption July 16th, 2013 12:27 PM

Very nice kit there, awful way to show it off though.

As we keep coming back to in this thread, a lot of the previously 'weaker' teams have made some good signings. This could be a very strong PL this season, bigger teams could do with some big signings to make it even better.

There has been quite a few parallels between the two clubs in recent history, both were in League 1 not so long ago and now they've progressed to respected PL teams (admittedly the Saints had already been a respected team within the past decade) pretty quickly.

The link with the £12m striker appears to actually have some reality in it. Eduardo Vargas could become a big name around Middlesbrough soon. :P or he'll be crap like anyone promising we sign.

Weeaboo Name July 16th, 2013 12:44 PM

I don't know anything about him but Chileans are always gr8 on football manager. Looking on Youtube he looks good, of course anyone can be made to look good in a 5 min vid*. If this happens it could indeed be good times for your lot.

*no amount of eurodance and flashy cuts could make James Milner look good

Logan July 16th, 2013 12:59 PM

That penalty was incredibly dodgy. Super save from Boruc though, can't remember the last time I saw us save a penalty until this season and we saved like 3 or 4 (Davis' save against Aguero on the opening weekend the most lasting memory). I'm not too sure about Wanyama, the only times I saw him myself were against Barca and Juve and in both games he was exceptional (how many players can say they marked Lionel Messi out of a game in the past 3 years?), however it's not about one-off performances and it'd be great to see if he can turn those performances into every day occurrences.

Speaking of Shaw there was only one instance last year (when fully fit) that he was outclassed by an opposition player and that was when we lost 1-0 to Spurs near the end of the season and Bale cut inside him and scored a screamer in the dying moments. It's quite funny actually, a neutral tweeted Shaw asking him why he didn't stop Bale because it was obvious he was cutting inside and Shaw said he tried but Bale was too quick to catch.

I really think 'Hat'Ricky Van Wolfswinkel will be a huge one to watch this year, gonna be a potential star.

Weeaboo Name July 16th, 2013 1:54 PM

>Juventus reject €10m Norwich bid for Fabio Quagliarella but will sell for €12m

Or at least that is what Sky Italia are saying. I'd certainly be more excited him than Hooper signing I must say.

Obviously excited to see van Wolfswinkel on the pitch after months of hype. I watched him in a few Lisbon games after the deal was announced and he certainly seems clinical. I'm just as excited to see how Leroy Fer adapts to the Premier League, thinking he's our biggest coup thus far. As for our other signings Redmond could turn out to be bargain of the century and Garrido and Olsson are very sensible. Oh, I forgot about Nash, in a way I hope we never have to see him play.

Logan July 16th, 2013 2:39 PM

My mate's a Birmingham fan and doesn't really rate Redmond. Maybe it's just Lee Clark that's ruined him, definitely reckons he's taken a couple of steps back since Hughton left, it'll be interesting to see if being reunited with him brings him back to his best. No need to worry about Hooper though, pretty sure he's about to complete a move to QPR lol.

Weeaboo Name July 16th, 2013 3:06 PM

He's a great finisher but I'm glad we got RVW over him in the end. Pretty sure that if we wanted him we'd have him by now, I just hope he goes to QPR soon so the speculation goes away.

Young players blow hot and cold, still plenty of time for him to flourish. All I can say is I hope he's better at football than he is at picking haircuts.

Logan July 17th, 2013 1:36 AM

Could say that about most young footballers who think they're playboys? Have you seen Raheem Sterling's new trim?

Weeaboo Name July 17th, 2013 7:33 AM

If I was his manager I think I'd drop him for that.

YogiOne July 17th, 2013 10:18 AM

Sterling comes from Jamaica and everyone here doesn't know whether to laugh or be mad that he has a haircut like that. So everyone is just shaking their heads but no one really expects better from him, he isn't the master of best judgement.

Amore July 17th, 2013 1:48 PM

Haha, that is horrendous.
The Thiago saga was incredibly frustrating for me as a United fan, and I can see Cesc going the same way. Tbh we have more chance of signing someone from Italy...considering Giaccherini, an Italy international, is moving to Sunderland xD.
I can either see Moyes turning up one day with Ronaldo, or us having a summer like City did last year and then just hoping the squad's improved enough to match up. If Nani hit form again we'd be unstoppable, tbh - on a bad day he's a shadow of 2004 Ronaldo, but on a good day he's a shadow of the current Ronaldo. Shame he only has about two a year, one of which will be in a match.

What's everyone's opinions on the Rooney saga? I personally see him staying - the hair transplant and his maneuvre for more money in 2010 suggests he has a bit of a brain on him somewhere. If he does go though, I hope it's abroad - for the good of the England team if nothing else (everybody goes on about how many Spaniards in La Liga etc. compared to Englishmen in the PL - what about the Englishmen outside of GB? Beckham was the last high profile one).

Weeaboo Name July 17th, 2013 2:03 PM

Don't have any opinion on the Rooney thing.

Joey Barton is the last English player I remember seeing play abroad.

Eruption July 17th, 2013 3:49 PM

Well Barton was playing there last season so little surprise there. :P

Perhaps Sterling's hair is an attempt to prevent him from fathering another child at the age of 18.

As for Rooney, I'm not bothered where he ends up so long as he moves. We've had lots of exciting transfers abroad and in the PL's mid table, but the big PL clubs are letting us down. Fabregas would've been interesting, Suarez would've been interesting and it looks like Rooney isn't moving either. I want a big transfer happening.

Weeaboo Name July 17th, 2013 4:26 PM

Seems that Italian guy as said nope to Norwich. Bar RVW Hoots hasn't had the best of luck with signing strikers. Missed out on targets last summer, ended up with a rubbish loanee from Spuds. Hooper saga, Toivenen and Quags supposedly saying nope.

Next Sky Italy report says we're going after Maxi López. Not sure if want.

YogiOne July 17th, 2013 5:37 PM

Their signings might not seem as lavish as some in previous seasons but Man City have really strengthened their squad so far. Navas, Fernandinho and Negrado(pending a medical) they seem a stronger squad right now.

Hulk to Monaco although I don't really think he's a great player, it just continues to show the monetary strength that they have and are just creating a really good side. Even sending out a warning for the 2014/2015 champions league.

Ivysaur July 19th, 2013 9:53 AM

Tito Vilanova is leaving Barça due to his cancer, which is only getting worse by the day. Now the team have the small problem of having to find a new coaching team in mid-July. It's going to be a lot of fun for them, I expect.

Rumours say they'll get Rubi, from 2nd division team Girona, although we are expecting news in half an hour.

I'll try to talk about Illarramendi as soon as I figure out myself what's so great about him XD

Add Jovetic to that list. I feel bad for poor Dzeko, he's a great striker and will probably now be pushed aside like many good strikers of recent years in Man City history.

I wish they went for a big name appointment rather than continuing their recent tradition. Although if they were going to think small as I assume they are, you would think they would appoint the guy who took charge in Vilanova's absence.

If he doesn't have an outstanding season from the get-go Fernandinho has the potential to be one of the worst signings of all-time. 34 Million for a 28 year-old with barely any Brazil caps to his name is ludicrous.

Nathan July 23rd, 2013 9:57 AM

Basically what Manipulation said. It isn't really convincing, I'd have preferred Paulinho.
Also Gerardo Martino is the new coach of Barca. Not exactly reassuring.

Eruption July 24th, 2013 6:45 AM

I think Barcelona will do just fine. I imagine Messi has a personal friendship with him to pull this off. Of course I hope I'm wrong and Ronaldo & Madrid take the title instead.

Boro have been linked with too many players and not pulled it off. Now it looks like we'll re-sign Ross Turnbull. The season starts in a week and a half, we're so doomed.

There has still no big transfers either, Fabregas, Suarez, Bale, Rooney, please someone move.

Weeaboo Name July 24th, 2013 8:50 AM

Norwich still only have 2 first team strikers, wasn't really expecting anyone to join whist the team are away on this US tour though I suppose. No new rumours but the Quagliarella, Vidra and Maxi Lopez ones refuse to go away. If they get a couple of strikers of that class and some central defensive competition for Bass/Turner I think we'll have a rather exciting team on our hands.
