Haha, was there an English-style backpass-own-goal howler involved?

City won 4-0...I knew something bad had happened. Although not really as impressive as United's win. City were playing a joke club (c'mon, they brought Kinnear back, they are a joke). United, on the other hand, had to overcome the Welsh tiki-taka :)

Yup, it happens. Probably the defending team (Real Madrid in that case) got caught off guard.

City are top of the league, but encouraging stat for Utd and Chelsea is, winning the PL after going on top of the league after matchday 1 has only happened 3 times. City should've won by more than 4 goals to be honest, Newcastle played like a side from 4th division.

YogiOne August 19th, 2013 9:42 PM

City weren't impressive especially since as some have already pointed out that Newcastle really looked poor the entire match. Their debutantes impressed: Fernandinho's range of passing was good, Navas showed how well he can cross running at speed and Negrado of the bench already proved he has an eye for goal (even if it was disallowed) and will definitely get into the starting line up over Dzeko.

If Bale stays at Tottenham, it will be a exciting title race with them, Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea. Arsenal unless they make some late top quality transfers are definitely out of the running.

Ω Ruby and α Sapphire August 20th, 2013 1:30 AM

Newcastle are going to have a long, long season if they replicate more of those performances. Disgusting football by them.

Eruption August 20th, 2013 4:37 AM

Newcastle can feel free to drop down to the Championship with us north east neighbours. It could have happened last season, but I thought they would've sorted themselves out by now.

Weeaboo Name August 20th, 2013 6:25 AM

As long as Palarse go down I don't mind.

Amore August 20th, 2013 7:29 AM

I don't especially want to see Newcastle go down unless Mike Ashley sells them - he's done some good, like squeezing £35million out of Liverpool for Andy Carroll, but then he appointed Kinnear. Twice. If they go down but Ashley stays, that's just a tragedy.

Eruption August 20th, 2013 9:54 AM

That's how the fantasy league is looking after the first game (Still got chelsea's midweek game before we finish the first gameweek though). I'd say join if you want to, it'll be exciting with more players and you've only missed one match worth of points which can soon be overturned.

Weeaboo Name August 20th, 2013 10:33 AM

Guess that'll be what I get for not picking any players playing in Manchester.

Eh, so it looks like it will be Johan Elmander. Considering the interest in the likes of Fabio Quagliarella and Ola Toivonen this isn't that exciting, I hope he proves me wrong though.

Amore August 20th, 2013 11:26 AM

How do I join? Oh my god as if I had to think of something to take that over 25 characters.

EDIT:

Actually - £30m for Willian...crazy money. And then there's the reports Bale's going for £93m + Coentrao. I'm sorry, but he's not worth as much as Ronaldo was yet. Just shows Perez' desperation to assemble a proper 2nd "galacticos" team.

PS. I made a classic league. The league code is 885334-439544
If there's enough entries, I might make a head-to-head league as well.

There you go Amore.

Willian could make them PL champions at the end of the year though. These types of transfers haven't been regularly made in the past by Spurs.

Amore August 20th, 2013 1:21 PM

Yeah. Either Daniel Levy's letting them spend money they already had, or they basically have to sell Bale to afford all of this xD

EDIT: Got joined! Had to decide between Mata and RVP - they're both so expensive. Went for Mata - he's mr consistent, RVP occasionally goes a game without scoring xD. May regret that.

Nathan August 20th, 2013 4:40 PM

I think I'm gonna join too Nuke. Looks good. Crystea FC there.

A season long loan. At the age of 32 I think that is a pretty sensible move, he certainly offers something different for us. v.Wolfswinkel/Hooper/Elmander/Becchio should be a massive step up in class to the Holt/Jackson/Martin/Kane/Morison strikeforce that started last season.

Hoping for another 2 signings, a central defender and an attacking midfielder, although even if they don't happen I think Norwich are in for a good season.

Eruption August 21st, 2013 1:54 PM

I wouldn't mind if Norwich tossed Becchio our way now you have another striker. I never really liked Elmander when he was at Bolton, but I don't think he'll get much time on the pitch anyway.

Weeaboo Name August 21st, 2013 2:38 PM

I didn't watch a lot of him at Bolton but I can't imagine their style of play at the time did his game any good. You're right though, he probably will be some what a bit part player.

As for Becchio, I really hope he gets and takes his chance in the first team. Getting ahead of RvW and Gary Hooper in a side which uses 1 forward sure sounds tough though. Maybe if he puts 10 past Bury on the cup next Tuesday he'll get some time against Saints the weekend after. I kinda think he'll end up back at Leeds, of course I'd rather he went to Boro.

Same old officiating in the Chelsea game. Helped my fantasy team though.

Eruption August 21st, 2013 6:06 PM

Arsenal are making more attempts at a big money signing. Interest declared in Benzema and Di Maria. Very odd if either come off really. This could certainly push any Bale negotiation up to a higher value.

Weeaboo Name August 21st, 2013 6:19 PM

Benzema is certainly a player I've wanted to see play in England, hope it comes off for them. Well, I'd rather he went somewhere that wasn't Arsenal but you know what I mean.

Eruption August 21st, 2013 6:34 PM

I remember he was linked with United around the time he moved to Madrid, perhaps a shame for England that Madrid got him in the end. That said Benzema hasn't had a perfect time in Spain so maybe he won't play to the level we expect.

I'd just be glad to see Wenger give in and finally spend some money rather than persist with his idiotic transfer policy. I don't like Arsenal, but I have a feeling I'd like them a lot more if they didn't let Wenger keep them from progressing all the time.

Edit: Actually come to think of it I'm sure United wanted Di Maria when Madrid signed him too. Poor United. :P

Weeaboo Name August 21st, 2013 6:58 PM

Indeed it is always a sad day when United miss out on players.

To be fair, even if he doesn't spend a lot I'm sure Spurs would choke and give them 4th anyway.

Eruption August 21st, 2013 7:03 PM

I think Spurs are destined for greater things this season and Arsene has just realised it himself. Either that or this whole story won't go through like the rest of Arsenal's targets and it'll take until Arsenal finish 5th for Wenger to realise he should've spent money.

Weeaboo Name August 21st, 2013 7:11 PM

I just can't see it, even with these big transfers. Would rather see them in the top 4 than any of the current holders so I'll be hoping they prove me wring.

i'm in. mt team is Evanston FC

Eruption August 22nd, 2013 3:07 AM

It looks like Middlesbrough and Norwich are doing business, but not for the player I mentioned previously. A bid for Daniel Ayala has been accepted.

What do you think of him -Lapras-? Hope he's good.

Edit: Sky Sports say Bale transfer is on. We've heard that many times, please be true this time. Link.

Nathan August 22nd, 2013 6:13 AM

Bale is a great player but I don't think he's worth all that money.
