(though I'm more interested in who will finish on top since Mexico will likely face them if they make it to the second round)

Brazil v Spain
Croatia v Netherlands

Don't see Mexico getting past Croatia, but you never know

The battle for 2nd place in Group A will be between Mexico and Croatia. I can see that maybe going down to the wire. Croatia played excellently against Brazil, so I wouldn't rule them out just yet. Btw, Mandzukic will make his return against Cameroon.

Chile are a really good side. Looking forward for seeing Cahill again though.

For some reason when it comes to Australia the spotlight's almost always on Cahill. I would not be surprised if he scores any of Australia's goals in the match should it happen, and yeah apparently it's just about kick-off time now.

Casillas has been terrible all season long. He was this close from gifting us a Champions League final, and, in the league, he conceded in the two games he played. The defence was pretty bad (Piqué...), Xavi is done for, subbing Xabi Alonso was idiotic, and when you look at the bench and you only see Torres and Villa... well...

I'm sorry, but I had little to no confidence beforehand and now my fears have been confirmed.

Do the Spaniards really rely that much on Casillas?

Okay, the Chile-Australia match is underway right now so can't wait to see who scores that first goal.

No, but when you are playing without a goalkeeper, you get the third (it was a foul but wtf was he doing there), fourth (L.O.L.) and fifth goals.

Liberal Army June 13th, 2014 2:06 PM

5-1 for the Netherlands! Proud on my country! Beautiful goals, especially van Persie's dolphindive.
Did not expect this, I actually thought Spain was going to win with 3-1.

Hikamaru June 13th, 2014 2:06 PM

I heard over the commentary that Australia's track record against Chile isn't all that great, so this may be very intense especially if Australia even manage to score. Still 0-0 at the time I was posting this.

I see where you're coming from but don't forget the Spanish teams did dominate the CL this year. Although I don't see them winning the tournament they'll be far from pushovers

Yes. And don't forget the spirit of the Spanish team is the currently pathetic FC Barcelona we beat in the quarters, and that Casillas was this close from gifting us the CL final (every time I write these words, I feel pain) thanks to some horrendous goalkeeping.

Logan June 13th, 2014 2:10 PM

If you think Australia will get anywhere near getting through that group you're kidding yourself. Australia would probably get relegated from the Championship and they're up against 3 possible contenders.

Don't rub us off that quickly, this will be a tough one but we won't go down without a fight. Even if many are calling Australia "the USA of Group B" that doesn't mean we can still make the match a close one.

And Chile scores the first goal! It's 1-0 to the Chileans.

Dreg June 13th, 2014 2:12 PM

Well it's 1-0 to Chile. The defense by Australia was terrible.

Logan June 13th, 2014 2:12 PM

I'll eat my own genitals if Australia get through that group #nochance

2. And Chile will have a tough time getting past Brazil. I'd rather have the Netherlands finish second so they can try to pull off the same upset they did four years ago.

Welp. The fight lasted 11 minutes XD

Hikamaru June 13th, 2014 2:14 PM

It's 2-0 to Chile!

I do have a gut feeling they're gonna run away with this one now.

Ryoutarou June 13th, 2014 2:14 PM

Yeah, that's...a really nice back to back there, Chile are on fire.

Dreg June 13th, 2014 2:14 PM

And now it's 2-0 Chile! The Australians look beaten already.

Ivysaur June 13th, 2014 2:15 PM

Can Chile finish first in the group? Their next two matches will be interesting.

You could essentially call my men the USA of Group B right now, the ones that look likely to go home empty-handed. The defense was so appalling, they really need to work on that!

I hope they give koke (for me the next iniesta) and juanfran a chance otherwise I don't see any changes (except maybe the keeper)

P. S Chile for dark horse

...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnndddd it's gone. I think you overestimate your team a little.

You know I'm starting to believe Chile may be looking like they can pass the group, probably at the expense of Spain though.

You surely do like to rub the Aussies off as "weaklings" but I guess that's because they are the lowest in world rankings of this year's participants. The defense was so rubbish given how fast Chile managed to get two goals in.

Yeah, definitely Chile and Netherlands as my pick to advance. Chile have shown us they really are a powerhouse in disguise, and that's just in their first match!
