Emerald: Abandoned Ship Glitch
Hello to everyone here on PC. My name is SirVer, and this is my first post. This is actually to report a glitch I found in Pokemon Emerald – the 386 version, but since 386 doesn’t change anything but encounters and evos, it should work on regular Emerald as well. I don't know about R/S. Also, I’m not sure if this is where this thread should be, but it seemed the most suitable.
I’d gone to the Abandoned Ship to get a Tentacruel, being too lazy to evolve a Tentacool, caught one, and used an Escape Rope. I ended up outside, in Surf mode. I’d never activated it, so I got curious and went back inside. I used a save editor to overwrite the Surf move, so now no-one on my team knew Surf. I used an Escape Rope again, while inside, and voila, there I was on the water, in Surf mode. I went back on the ship and tried re-entering the water. No go. This glitch isn’t documented on Bulbapedia, or anywhere else that I could find, so I decided to put it up here in case its already known, and wasn’t put up since you can’t do this without cheating. |
Every hack, even if it's only full pokedex one, changes the core ROM.
This glitch would have been exploited long time ago if it actually was on the real cartridge. |
I know it's like that for most hacks, but I didn't know it applied to the minor ones as well. Thanks for the heads up. As for the glitch, I just tested it with a clean Emerald rom (from coolrom) and it still occurs. Maybe the reason nobody found it till now is because it requires some form of cheating. Or maybe someone did find it, and deemed it unimportant. In which case, I'm making a massive fool of myself :P

This section is for official games, not hacks. Perhaps you can post your findings in ROM hacking.
