Noob Problems

Remember when you were younger, and had those derp moments, like the ones that people could make jokes about today? Yeah, those derp moments. Well, this thread is to share some of those derp moments that you had, or even make a joke about some of the things a new player might say/do

I'll go first :

"I can't play my pokemon game, because every time I try and step outside of Pallet town, this man always stops me, and i have to reset"

Cooltrainer Ashley Rose April 5th, 2013 1:02 PM

I didn't know that Swellow's FLying moves would be super effective aginst brawly's makuhita. A noob's moment.

I expected to find a Pokémon inside that Poké Ball, not a Potion!

Cossolotto32 April 5th, 2013 3:32 PM

My first time playing pokemon was with my crystal version! I never could play it because I couldn't figure out how to leave the house! Since when are rugs doors? But my mom figured it out eventually, I was young haha

Pinkie-Dawn April 5th, 2013 4:09 PM

First time playing Blue, I didn't know how to get the old man from blocking the path to Viradian Forest, because I never read the dialogue on what I was suppose to do to trigger old man to stop blocking.

Same as me. I didn't have noob experiences after that.

Aslan April 5th, 2013 6:36 PM

I've had a few when playing Pokemon, I guess one of them was having trouble figuring out how to get past the boy/girl who was guarding the route north of Littleroot Town until you found your rival. I had to search eventually on how to do it, ahahaha, I didn't read the text on what the characters said back then, I just spammed the A button and then walked off. At least I learnt from that experience though. n__n;

My first pokemon game was Yellow and i got lost in viridian forest for almost a week! My pikachu was lvl 22 by the time i found the exit. Now i can find the exit blindfolded lol

Had the same problem. Never had a welcome mat growing up. Where I come from, we welcome people IN THE FACE!

Cossolotto32 April 5th, 2013 10:24 PM

Also! In my first play through of Ruby in slateport, you couldnt go up north to the next town, maville town, or something? because team aqua or magma was blocking you. And when you talked to them they would call your pokemon weak. So i just thought you had to get your pokemon stronger. So i sat there a trained in the grass until my dustox hit like level 60 and the grass had wild pokemon at like level 20 0_o.
I grinded for like a week haha
Then I figured out you had to talk to someone in the boat house place, and just had a level 60 Dustox for most of the game haha

Gligar April 5th, 2013 10:41 PM

I thought Sudowudo was actually a grass type

Foxrally April 6th, 2013 1:18 AM

I used my Master Ball on a Tentacruel instead of Giratina.

^ My brother who just posted up there never forgave me.

Kikaito plush April 6th, 2013 2:08 AM

I was one of these people who could not get out of the house when I first played Yellow.

Sarah Morgan April 6th, 2013 2:12 AM

It took me literally one year to figure out how to get through Morty's gym in Pokemon Silver. SMH

Hikamaru April 6th, 2013 2:22 AM

Doubling up on types in my team and not knowing about diversity, which is total noob lol.

zypher634 April 6th, 2013 2:31 AM

3 noob moments

moment 1. not knowing that you should replace ember with flamethrower and having 4 special fire type move all of different power. Derp

2. not knowing how to get out of little root in hoenn

3. finding a level 8 pidgeotto in viridian forest and being all wtf knowing pidgey doesn't evolve till lvl 18

PlatinumDude April 6th, 2013 6:22 AM

In Sapphire, Swampert was the only Pokémon I trained. I didn't give anyone else time to catch up.

kinataki April 6th, 2013 6:37 AM

I used my masterball on tentacruel.. just because of its shape....

I had that too, but my brother directly explained it.

Guardian April 6th, 2013 7:45 AM

Hmm lets see.

1. My first game was Sapphire, if I recall correctly. And you know when you in that town where a lot of aqua team members are standing outside in a row to...museum I believe, and you cant go forward before you do something? Well, I didn't know what that something was for a looooong time.

2. Same game, that island where you have to find someone, but it's dark and you can't see anything. Let's just say I had NO idea what FLASH is, so you can guess that I spent even loooooonger to find my way through.

3.My biggest mistake ever. FInally went to League in Emerald. "omg, omg about to win!"
"Playing this game on my COMPUTER is sooo fun!!"
And finally, I defeated league, credits start.
"Omg I should save this now on ALL 12 possible save slots!"
...few secs later....
"Save file is corrupted, bla bla"
...few more secs later...
"Hello, my name is Birch, and you just wasted xyz hours of your life, plus, you will never be able to see everything you've ever done in this game"
derp...fffffuuuuuuu

Mithel_Celestia April 6th, 2013 11:49 PM

I had a seadra once in my ruby. I didn't know how to evolve the seadra so I kept training it not knowing that the only way was to trade it with dragon scale. I was all "facepalm" when my classmate told me how.

Brendino April 7th, 2013 12:24 AM

It's been a long time since I first played, so I've probably forgotten quite a few of my noob moments. One that really sticks out though is when I was playing Yellow and trying to catch Mewtwo. I guess I had no concept that the Master Ball could catch anything without having to weaken it, so I always tried to battle it first. I remember getting frustrated when I knocked it out, and I must've tried 4 or 5 times before I felt it's HP was low enough to try the Master Ball (and I caught it, obviously).

CliCliW April 7th, 2013 1:57 AM

The first time I ever played my Blue (I was between 4-5 yrs old) I couldn't even figure out how to leave Pallet Town....

Guardian April 7th, 2013 2:41 AM

What guy above me said. I know the feeling, my first game was Sapphire, but issue is the same. There was a guy who wouldn't let you move forward from the first town because he was sketching some footprints or something. I hated him, I tried doing literally everything except the obvious, going to prof. lol

Keyaki April 8th, 2013 9:13 PM

In Gen I, I didn't know what to do after I left Pallet Town and made it to Viridian City. So I just wandered around the grass in Route 1.
Didn't know how to beat Brock in Yellow because I couldn't understand why Electric types couldn't affect Geodude and Onix.
After I got my 4th badge I had absolutely no idea on what to do next, mainly getting rid of the Snorlax blocking my path. Didn't find that out until I played Blue version. But by that time, my Pokemon were well into the 50s.

And of course the more popular actions of just training your Starter Pokemon and relying that one Pokemon to somehow win me the Pokemon League.
