X and Y Likes and Dislikes/Disappointments thread

Since the old thread died here's new one.
Has anything about these games stuck out to you? Do you like that thing or dislike it? Overall how do you rate this generation thus far? Do you have any disappointments?

X and Y Likes and Dislikes/Disappointments thread

No disappointments so far for me. I don't get why so many people dislike "Meethree" I like it. I would be a little disappointed if "Mewthree" was a new form of mewtwo rather than an entirely new pokemon. It seems to be an independent pokemon, but who knows. I'm just so excited for this generation. Can't wait till October! I think people are getting upset because there are going to be a lot of changes. But sometimes change is a good thing... I think this gen is gonna be great.

Magykx April 7th, 2013 4:14 PM

There isn't enough information out about the games to give a definite list of likes and dislikes, other than the 3D aspects, Sylveon and the Newtwo.

blue April 7th, 2013 4:21 PM

We don't really know all that much but from what we do currently know I'm pretty happy.

HaloSonic April 7th, 2013 5:07 PM

I don't know if I'll buy it, (unless there is some groundbreaking new changes to the battle formula), since the older you are, the more repetitive the games start to feel, and the less enjoyment you get out of them.

C Payne April 7th, 2013 7:32 PM

^ I wouldn't agree entirely to that; Sure nostalgia might mess things up from time to time(that ol' 'I remember when there was only *low number* gen/s') because some of us have been with the games since the start, but I've genuinely been really excited each time a new gen is announced and while playing through them.

Maybe it's me but, even though the basics of the storylines have been the same(beat gyms, bad guys along the way, then beat the E4 and champion), each gen's story has had a pretty unique feeling to me; I look beyond the usual basics and enjoy the new evil team's motives, new people, new areas, etc. So long as they continue to improve things in general, each new region has felt fresh to me and I'm more than sure Gen 6 will be the same.

Mujahid April 7th, 2013 10:27 PM

So far So Good.Anything that comes close to a dissapointment is probably the Male Protagonist. He doesn't stand out from others.

Oh my gosh, Newtwo, I'm stealing that word until its real name is revealed.

When early scans of the movie posters came out with Newtwo, I was one of the many who were really hoping it would turn out fake. I thought that had it turned out real, it would have been my first disappointment. That being said, having seen a clearer image and the short trailer of it, I can safely say I like it more than I initially did at first. So, no complaints or disappointments from me!

I disagree to an extent. I can understand some old fans getting tired of the same formula every generation. GameFreak, however, has found something that really works for them, and going on six generations now it hasn't seemed to fail them yet. For long time fans like myself, we always know what to expect so it feels safe so-to-speak. At the same time, each generation is designed so differently that it doesn't always feel the same regardless of them all sticking to the same formula since Gen I. The addition of new Pokémon, new stories, a new region and new places, new people, and new game mechanics and enhancements really makes up for a lot of things that would otherwise feel bland after awhile.

Lugia's Shadow April 8th, 2013 2:59 AM

Everything so far imho is pretty good :D. Graphics, Pokemon, region (so far)...the only thing I don't really like are the main characters. They seem rather...regular. Also the full 3D, I wonder what changes will happen with the battle sims that are slowly growing in popularity, what will happen to our sprites?

shubham2207 April 8th, 2013 3:05 AM

Till now, only one dissappointment.. Sylveon!!

CliCliW April 8th, 2013 3:10 AM

I'll be honest, I'm disappointed that the new 3D type layout means we won't see the shrinking animation anymore. I know it's trivial but still.

I'm afraid too that the animations will make the battles feel really dragged out and ridiculously long. but I really like the battle animations usually so I'm torn :/

And one more thing I'm disappointed about is that they didn't bring back the pokemon following you around from Yellow/HG/SS. I want that brought back so badly!!!!!

Palkia April 8th, 2013 4:25 AM

I hope the graphics are a work in progress, as they look awful for a 3DS game. The system is powerful enough to do Colosseum/XD-like graphics and what we get it a below average-looking PSP game.

I'm not one to harp on graphics, but sometimes I do have to draw the line somewhere. I know that Pokemon games aren't the best looking games on a system, but even for these lower standards it's not good.

Everything else is fine so far however, although that "Mewtwo influenced" legendary does look a bit off.

Rai April 8th, 2013 12:05 PM

So far, I really like all of the pokemon they have released. They are all designed very well and most are cute! <3

I am excited about the 3D graphics. I have been wondering for years when they were going to stop using sprites (although I do like the sprite animation).

Snoopy April 8th, 2013 1:41 PM

No disappointments for me, thus far. I like everything, including the new Pokemon; if any of you noticed, though, when ever a Pokemon is shown battling in the new region, there's never any music playing.. It would REALLY suck if there wasn't any music, which I highly doubt will happen.

Atomic Pirate April 8th, 2013 3:03 PM

I'm disappointed in quite a bit to do with this generation, to be honest.

First of all, Sylveon. The fact that it's type is still unknown hints that they are likely going to add some gimmicky new type, you know, "Light" or "Good" or "Fairy" or something. Plus, the design of Sylveon is boring and uninspired, looking like a splice of Espeon, Milotic, and Victini.

Next we have the starters. Chespin is... okay, I guess. It's an odd design, not really notable, but not necessarily good either. If I do get one of these games, I'll probably choose it, because honestly, it just has the best aesthetic to it and seems like it could be at least slightly interesting, what with it's likely secondary type being Dark. Fennekin looks way too cutesy, even for a Pokemon. I don't like it at all, but I don't really hate it either. It's just not my thing. However, Fennekin does have the possibility of winning back some respect for Game Freak, due to the fact that it doesn't look like it'll be yet another Fire/Fighting combo. Froakie... good lord. It's design is just embarrassing. It's not like Game Freak can't do frogs, either. They've proven that they can create good frogs with Politoed, so why is this thing so ugly? Now, I must stress, the evolutions aren't out yet, so I can only predict what they may be. Who knows, Froakie's final form could be a complete badass. However, just from a first-form standpoint, I'd have to say that Chespin is the most bearable.

Finally, that horrendous Mewtwo form. And, I'm not even saying that giving Mewtwo a form was that bad of an idea. Sure, I generally dislike forms for their gimmicky nature, but a new form for Mewtwo actually had a bit of potential. The original Mewtwo looked very intimidating and alien, and a new form could look even more so. But what do they give us? They give us a strange, ponytail-headed oddball. The new form actually looks weaker than Mewtwo, with the cold, slitted eyes of the original Mewtwo contrasting with the giant, bulbous "ANIMOO" eyes of the new form.

I guess the two version legendaries revealed are alright, I certainly don't hate them like I do the new Mewtwo form, but I certainly don't like them either.

To be honest, though, none of this really surprises me much; I've been losing interest in the series once Generation III ended. It just seems like the generations have been getting worse and worse. I fear that some day soon, Pokemon will become the new Sonic: Old, tired, lacking in creativity, and in desperate need of ending.

tnfsf11 April 22nd, 2013 3:17 PM

I guess the only disappointment for me so far is Newmew, I kinda liked it at first but then I saw the video of the original Mewtwo transforming to Newmew & I honestly prefer the original one.
I believe GF was trying too hard to please the nostalgia fanboys by giving Mewtwo a new form but it ended up looking like a bottle opener :P but I appreciate that they went back to some of the old pokes...

tigerBLADE April 22nd, 2013 4:03 PM

I'm still disappointed from the male trainer's design. He honestly looks kind of generic, if that makes sense. I just wish he had more... "oomph".

Cassiopeiia April 22nd, 2013 4:42 PM

I agree that the male protagonist looks rather bland, hopefully though he (and she) is customisable,
and what we've seen so far from him is just the basic template.

But I also have to agree with Para-Dox, the graphics looks very disappointing. (Though, oddly, the battle graphics looked way better)

Especially when comparing it to other 3DS games:

Bounsweet April 22nd, 2013 5:48 PM

The only disappointment that I have as of now is the new Mewtwo forme. It just seemed to unnecessary... I like the design and everything but it just seems so out of place and it kind of annoys me that they're now slapping formes on Pokemon as old as Mewtwo.

Anyway, I'm excited for the battles and the entire overworld. I'm a little hesitant about how big of a change it's going to be compared to what we've been used to for the past 15 years, which has essentially been the same screen revamped, while this seems like something straight out of the GameCube games. I'm excited for that, just not the adjustment phase :(

Navy Blue April 22nd, 2013 6:10 PM

Me, I like everything, yes, the trainers/players, the new types(?), Pokemon, forms, and graphics. Except for too little information for so long...

This. We barely know anything lol but my first dislike might come pending Sylveon's type.

Also, Mewbuu meaning a forme and not a new Pokemon. I can deal with it, but I would've preferred a new Pokemon instead! It would make for an interesting back story about prior attempts (or new attempts after Mewtwo's "failure") to create Mew from its genes.

Altairis April 22nd, 2013 8:10 PM

I was excited to come into the forum to discuss new XY info and semi-speculate, but with this little information it's basically 100% speculation and hopes for the new game. Why I've been holding off from this XY board is because I don't really like to participate in this because it kind of gets my hopes up, because a game isn't ever perfect when it's the first in its generation, especially because this is an entirely new style.

I was disappointed by lack of information because they revealed the games so early, but then... nothing. We don't even know something as simple as the Legendary's types, or the protagonist's actual looks. They even reveal a Pokemon and then FOR WEEKS hide its typing. Although I know the game will be great, they're not really setting themselves up well here, there has been so much buildup to Sylveon's typing that it has to be.. "good" and I guess not just like "it's Flying type" or whatever. It's because people have explored thinking of the possibility that its a standard type, so now they're wondering, is it a dual type? is it part of an eeveelution pair? is it a new type? and if it's none of those its going to be kind of disappointing =/

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's great they're revealing things, but is there much harm in saying, "the Legendary is Dark/Flying" or "Sylveon is flying." I mean, I guess it's a new type and all but still..

Aslan April 22nd, 2013 8:49 PM

I can say safely I like most of the things I see at this point. There isn't enough information or info revealed to pick out anything I dislike so far except for probably Mewthree. Honestly, is it really necessary? I suppose one could say that we should give it a second chance, but honestly I see complete resemblance to Mewtwo. The only difference is, honestly it looks like Mewtwo's tail got moved to it's head and... that's all the difference I see to be honest. But I was a tad bit disappointed, I mean it looks average, I would of preferred if Mewtwo was dressed in it's armour forme like it was in the First Movie, but that's just me.

Other than that I have to say the game overall is looking impressive. I remember seeing vine swinging in there which would be fun if it was like in a forest, there could be all sorts of other obstacles in the game, like more puzzles maybe. Even if the vine swinging was just apart of a gym, I have to say the graphics look great. Honestly I don't mind the protagonist's designs and the possibility of rollerskates is also a cool concept.

I guess another disappointment however is Froakie. I mean the other starters are alright, Chespin was pretty cute and Fennekin was rather cool but Froakie I feel like it's a mini Seismitoad. It doesn't have that look of a starter and honestly, I guess I just didn't like the design. But yeah overall, X and Y are looking promising so far. n_n

Hikamaru April 22nd, 2013 9:57 PM

I do admit there were a few flaws but the major disappointment for me was the new Mewtwo form (which looks a bit odd compared to the original Mewtwo) and the early reveal of the games, plus the constant speculation of Sylveon's type.

I don't find any of the starters weird, not even Froakie. I think he's cute!

Also, I didn't like the male Trainer's design. He looked way too much like Hilbert to me.

MetaRaptor April 23rd, 2013 8:52 AM

Alright, where to start?
I really like the starters. Fennekin is cute, and doesn't look like it will Evolve into another Fire/Fighting Type. Froakie looks cool, and Chespin looks...original. But I like it.
I don't really like Xerneas. Doesn't feel like a Legendary to me. Yveltal is much better.
Sylveon is the most adorable Pokemon I've ever seen, and is by far my favourite Pokemon ever!
"Newtwo" is the worst part of Gen 6 for me so far. It kind of ruined one of my favourite Legendaries, and looks horrible on top of that.
So yeah, liking X and Y so far, even with "Newtwo".

Jake♫ April 23rd, 2013 8:56 AM

Likes:
  • The starters (minus Froakie, but that's not too bad either)
  • The female protagonist
  • Sylveon
  • The cultural influences we have seen geographically
Dislikes:
  • The new Mewtwo form (I just don't get it I guess. It's not the aesthetic either, as it looks pretty cool, I just don't get why we're taking a Pokémon so old and giving it a new form)
  • The male protagonist (Another Hilbert/Nate clone, ugh)

Other than that I'm not really swayed by too much else, as we haven't really seen enough yet!

Zekrom1066 May 7th, 2013 11:05 PM

Honestly I do not really like Generation 6, even though I'm a fan of the newer Gens.

I don't like Froakie, Sylveon, the two Mascots and especially Awakened Mewtwo. I do like the other two starters though. For "Newtwo", I just don't like it's limbs and also the fact that its tail is shifted to its head. I know GameFreak is trying to sort of please the Mewtwo fans, but in the end the design did not turn out as good as expected. I just kind of feel that they are just dumping new formes to the older legends.

Also, I don't really like the male protagonist's design, looks too Hilbert-ish to me...

There may be huge changes in this Gen, but we still have to accept it though...

Zorogami May 7th, 2013 11:42 PM

Since there isn't too much information so far i can't say that much, but here it goes:

Likes so far
- The Starter Pokemon designs
- New design of battles
- The fact it's (supposedly) based on Europe
- The 2 mascot legendaries, especially Yveltal!!
- Seems there are going to be rollerblades? :D

Dislikes/Disappointments so far
- Mewtwo's new forme (just looks weird to me)
- Male Protagonist design, too "classic"

Silver Ice May 8th, 2013 7:49 PM

Oh man, where to start.

Well, I guess I'll start with the most logical: starters. Err.... they're alright but I'm disappointed overall. Fennekin is decent. Nothing I really hate about it, yet nothing I like either. Chespin is just not clicking with me. I admire GF for going for something very different in terms of Grass-type starters. Prior to Chespin, they were all reptilian. Now they're going mammal. However, I'm not impressed. It reminds me too much of Pachirisu, and those buck teeth... ugh. Also, I don't like the brown color. It's too dark, I think it would have looked better if it was a lighter brown, or maybe a golden color. And Froakie, oh gosh Froakie. Terrible. I usually always prefer the water type starters, but Froakie has broken the trend. Do I really need to explain why I don't like Froakie? Sigh... well at least we still have evolutions to look forward to! I have a feeling Froakie's evolution line will be pretty cool, so I may end up choosing Froakie after all. But for now if I had to choose, it would be Fennekin.

I also am not impressed with Sylveon. Its design is too cutesy and it doesn't look cool at all. I don't mind the pink, but the huge light blue eyes and the bow (it has some kind of bow or something... or maybe I'm just seeing things. I've only seen Sylveon like three times, so maybe I shouldn't be criticizing it, but still) just ruin it for me (for ME, I'm not saying nobody will like it but I sure don't). Also, I really hope they don't introduce a new type now. I think the 17 we have are good and adding a new one might make things complicated. We'll see, though.

And finally, the new Mewtwo form. It's ugly and looks like it belongs on Dragon Ball Z.

But, I will give Gen. VI one thing. The Legendary Mascots look awesome. I love Xerneas and Yveltal!

I'm excited for new information and I'm sure that for every poorly designed Pokemon, there will be an awesomely designed Pokemon to make up for it.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 12th, 2013 9:53 AM

Not sure if this thread is dead now (it says four weeks...) >_<. Hope not.
Anyways I really like all the new features they're adding. This generation is shaping out to be what Generation 5 promised but never was.
