"L'art pour l'art" - DCC

Art & Design's Daily Chit Chat

Hello everyone and welcome to A&D's first ever Spring 2013 DCC!

Feel free to discuss anything and everything art related in here. Get to know your fellow artists, learn their methods, chat about the latest and greatest art-thing you learned about! Here's your opportunity to talk with the gallery and shop owners here!

However, before you get typing. We've got a few rules:
  • Be mindful of the topic at hand. Always remember to respond accordingly to the prior conversation. Use your best judgement when changing current topics.
  • Critiquing is allowed, just keep in mind that this DCC is for the general discussion of art. Any heavy, full-blown reviews must be posted in the artist's gallery. Feel free to ask the artists how/why they drew something, but keep detailed and in-depth judgements on the art where it belongs.
  • Small traditional and digital requests can be made in this thread. Just remember that an artist may not always be available to complete your request. You're expected to respect that. Make sure your request doesn't derail any conversation; so keep the momentum going! I will reiterate : Do not request a signature here.
  • Don't spam, troll, or flame. Be nice; and the DCC will be nice to you.

Above all, have fun and enjoy! :D

derozio May 8th, 2013 3:24 AM

yay for the DCC finally being up. Hope all dem members enjoy it. :p

Since there's no topic being talked about, I'll start - What would you guys like to see in A&D? Is there anything about it that you aren't happy about? What do you think could make it better?

alisaie May 8th, 2013 8:05 AM

No guys stop making things like the icontest and this when I can barely make any graphics, and when I can nothing good. :(

Joking aside, you and Alexial have both been doing a wonderful job bringing some life back to A&D. I'm not around here as much as I would like but I can definitely see the effort you both have put into it and I think activity has gone up since. Maybe if the icontest is successful you can eventually reboot the signature contest as well. Maybe even an occasional joint 'theme' contest, kind of like what one of the get-togethers had once.

Fairy May 8th, 2013 1:44 PM

I think that sounds like a wonderful idea! :3 I'd love to get some awesome new contests going around these parts.

Dr. Eggman: Get a load of this!

http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=301419

Or if that topic gets moved or deleted, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIMLbSzTvV0

It reminds me of a Tumblr I wanted to do earlier in the year (which would now hypothetically make three) like December or January, whenever I joined here. Ideally, I'd set up various Pokemon drawing challenges like draw from memory, under 30 seconds, etc, and in retrospect... I probably should have. :\

On the other hand, my plate is 100% full, I can't take on anything else until I finish off some of the other things I'm working on. Still, the concept is cool. I might do this myself or set up a site for it later. :P I dunno, just battin' stuff around like a cat bats anything that moves.

That. Is. Awesome.

omg

Hey, if you ever launch that, I'm in. Definitely. <3

Love your new avatar, btw. Got the full piece?

derozio May 17th, 2013 8:30 PM

We'd definitely think about it, Tara. And thanks for the compliment, haha. ALSO THERES LIKE TWO DAYS LEFT YOU CAN STILL DO IT TARA ;________;

Haven't seen the entirety of the video myself but it's lookin' pretty sweet. <3; I honestly wouldn't be able to draw a single one of them without reference. XD; And dbp I'd honestly love to see your stuff, man. Bet it'd be even better than what we saw in the video, haha.

Treecko May 17th, 2013 8:40 PM

Woo A&D has a DCC now! I can chat with fellow artists!

I know someone from another forum whose drawing all 649 (and probably the ten Gen VI mons now.) Pokemon in Paint from memory.

If you want to spend hours going through this thread , you're in for a great laugh.

http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/f237/topic-i-will-draw-all-649-pokemon-ms-paint-52748/

I really have no suggestions for this DCC though. :(

derozio May 17th, 2013 9:06 PM

ahahaha, holy crap, that's just hilarious. XD; We should definitely have some sort of a project like that going over here too. Had no idea just a bunch of goofy pokemon art along with a single-lined comment can make me laugh like it just did omg XD; Totally gonna browse through its entirety when I'm free. 8) If you know similar hilarious stuff feel free to post here - always up for a good laugh, haha. <3

oh and it's okay. :) We'll figure things out somehow, lol.

Fairy May 17th, 2013 9:15 PM

omg this
http://www.bulbagarden.net/gallery/data/606/015beedrill.PNG
absolutely killed me xDDDD

Also, AWsquared, no suggestions needed! n_n; Here we can just chat about arts'n'stuffs. For instance, give me a little background on your sig? Last time I checked, comics are still art <3

derozio May 17th, 2013 9:19 PM

Ahahaha, yeah, hilarious stuff. XD;

And yeah, AWsquared, that art style looks pretty good to me. I'm curious as well. :3

Treecko May 17th, 2013 9:57 PM

Yup, he hasn't posted one in months though. :( But that sounds like an excellent idea. People can volunteer to do 5-10 at a time and post them here. i'd love to do that.

It's from Owl City's new video for their song "Metropolis".

I'm in love with this song right now cause of the video. The artwork is amazing in it and it also has a really good message about standing up to bullying. Adam, mastermind behind Owl City, posted gifs from the video to his blog and I had to use that one as my signature cause it's so cool!
http://www.ayoungblog.com/post/48783791777

So I've been putting that video on repeat just for the art and it's just a wonderful video too imo.

And yeah I'd considered comics art cause someone spent time working on them and plan and draw out all the visuals and such. Some comics have such incredible art too as well.

omnomnomnom yours words feed meeee :DDDD

Yes! They do! I love comics <3 Every Wednesdayyyy~~

I've heard of Owl City. Never listened to them though. But, if I remember correctly, you blogged about them and I looked them up once. Seemed pretty neat. n_n; Supposed to be like the Postal Service, right? Oh wait this is supposed to be about art :x

Anyway yeah, I love the style of your sig. Reminds me a lot of Adam Kubert's art.

^^from Ultimate X-Men :D

derozio May 19th, 2013 7:52 AM

Okay, the gifs look pretty nice. I'm definitely gonna check out their video asap. Owl City's songs are always so bubbly that it'd be interesting to see how a video on bullying would turn out. And how the whole comic book visuals would come together in the video. :3

^ and that looks pretty darn good too. Too bad I'm not really great at distinguishing most western artists and their art. They have distinct styles, yeah, but I've seen such a large variety in the art style in eastern mangas that the western stuff look relatively more same-y to me. That said, I love both. The eastern manga styles do take a little lead but that's just me being biased since the mangas I've read far outnumber the no. of comics I've read and I generally prefer the former, haha.

Fairy May 20th, 2013 11:45 AM

That's okay Dero. You'll learn. n_n;

But yo, guys, check this out. Found this on Kotaku this morning. Absolutely killed me.

http://kotaku.com/in-an-alternate-universe-these-freakish-frankenstein-p-508832438

definitely relevant material, definitely

seeker May 26th, 2013 12:23 PM

Some of those are hilarious lol.

Also when are you guys thinking of putting up the next Icontest? I might have missed where you said it, buuuut DCC needs some lovin' anyway.

Fairy May 27th, 2013 8:28 PM

Honestly, I'm not totally sure when the next icontest will be held. Personally, I'd like to do it as soon as possible. But I think we might end up waiting until Dero is back from his LoA. Shouldn't be too long after this one, though! :D

derozio May 29th, 2013 12:13 AM

I'd love it if you start it asap, Jo and Gav. Perhaps on the 1st or 2nd of the coming month itself.

There are some beastly pieces of art in there, btw. This one was amazing:
http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18o9p4a5c79pvpng/ku-xlarge.png

And oh my god look at this thing; it's terrifying!

http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18o9qd82mxvpcjpg/ku-xlarge.jpg

Really though, the artists have done an amazing job at these. Easily my favorites. <3;

Treecko May 29th, 2013 1:05 AM

Pokemon Fusion is one of the best things ever and some of the fanart is amazing. Some of them could work well as actual Pokemon.

http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18o8nx3w5s2k7jpg/ku-medium.jpg
http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18o8nxrkmyeotpng/ku-medium.png

Mansprout lol.

This one's really cute. :D
http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18o9oobzdn54npng/ku-medium.png

And almost anything with Cubone/Marowak or Beedrill is actually pretty cool. Out of the ones there these two are my favorites.
http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18o9q6jcy11ygpng/ku-medium.pnghttp://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18o9plplajxw5png/ku-medium.png

Mike Kun May 29th, 2013 7:53 AM

Whoa a home for talking bout art.... I'm gonna die XD

well if I'm not mistaken is that redrawn of the fusion is from deviantart right?

GoldMalik May 29th, 2013 8:09 AM

Wow this art is amazing! :3c

derozio May 29th, 2013 8:11 AM

^ which one are you talking about, GoldMalik? :p

@Mike Kun - Nice to have a place where we can talk art, right? :D As for your question - Again, I'm not really sure which one you're referring to, haha. If you're talking of these fusions as a collective bunch then...idk, Alexial might have a better idea. I honestly just followed the link she's posted above. :p

Elaitenstile May 30th, 2013 5:01 AM

Uh, hey guys, I've skimmed over this place a few times before XD. I saw those artworks too, in fb if I remember. Personally the Dewbasaur artwork is the best for me XD. Just because of the furring and other things.

But I don't have anything to post :P. I just wanna ask because I'm gonna start being a digital artist, what are the best tools n stuff for starting out? Like what program I should use etc. What all things I should keep in mind... stuff like that. Only recently I discovered my gift of drawing stuff so I hope someone guides me through XD.

Hohoho, I am going to take this opportunity to ever-so-gracefully plug my very own traditional / digital resource ~ !

Check it out

In there, you can find a list of free illustration programs and pretty much everything you need to learn how to draw! And if you have any questions, feel free to VM me and I'll be more than happy to give you a hand along the way. :D

derozio May 30th, 2013 7:14 PM

Why do my FB friends/liked pages not share artistic pieces like these? :(

And yeah, Jo definitely compiled one hell of a guide there. You'll love it. :D
Also, POST IN THE "HOLY **** THEIR ART!" THREAD, PEOPLE ;;

Morgnarok May 31st, 2013 7:56 AM

Hello, I just got Photoshop CS 6. I have never worked with graphics before at all and there is a lot I wish to learn and I am serious and dedicated about learning it. I want to learn at the moment just the basics. Like there's so many buttons and options in CS 6 and it is so confusing I don't know what to use or how to use it.

I want to make a signature and test my skills but I have no clue how to get started! I am looking for any guides/tutorials that are for complete noobs and explain everything.

My goals are to basically become a Graphics person who makes Avatar and Signatures for users and my self. In the future once I become good at it I may expand to other things.

I am willing to dedicate 5 hours per day, every day in Photoshop CS 6. So I am serious about this!

Please help me out!

*Cheers*

Hey! :D Glad you decided to pop in for some followup!

Well, I'm by no means accustomed to graphic design, but I'll do a bit of research for you and see if I can't find a nice, easy to follow tutorial on some basics. I believe color manipulation is a good place to start but, again, I wouldn't really know. But hey, after I look some stuff up for you and you get a chance to practice, why don't you participate in our next icontest to flex your skills? ;)

Morgnarok June 1st, 2013 4:07 AM

Alright thank you.

I went and tried making my first signature after watching this video tut. I got the layers down pat. Selecting a brush and text. What I seemed to have issue with was that when I selected my render it had no background. All white but when i copied it into the photoshop cs 6 it got a black surrounding. I used magic eraser to get ride of it and when i did not only did the black surrounding go but the some the color from the outter edges of the render went too. Now I thought I could get around that but When I started to work with the brushes it showed up.

Anyways, I am really interested in pokemon userbars. I am going to continue to try to make signatures but I want to learn how to make userbars. Like they look simple.

Fairy June 1st, 2013 6:47 PM

Hm.. maybe you're erasing through all of the layers? I'm not really sure.. I'm not acquainted with graphics at all. For me it's more like, "bad line? UNDO >:3". But maybe some of the graphic artists here would like to help? Or, you could take a video of what's happening and show us? I'm sure then you could get a more viable answer from the community.

But, if you're struggling with making tags it's always good to fall back on something you consider simple! n_n; Although, I've never made a userbar, so I can't promise for sure that they're "simple".. but I suppose that depends on how complex you want them to be, eh? Good luck on that though. Please post some of your stuff when you finish! :D

TwilightBlade June 1st, 2013 7:43 PM

Hey Noblebeast, can you take a screenshot of what happened? You need to save renders to your computer and open them in Photoshop. If you find a picture online that has a white background, copy it, and paste it into Photoshop, it will have a black background. That's the only thing I can think of, anyway. You can adjust how much the eraser is removing, too.

Userbars are a good start, and so are icons if you want to learn coloring. Click on everything Deviantart has to offer for graphics. Brushes, tutorials, actions, uhh check out the resources thread here, yeah.

Fairy June 2nd, 2013 12:17 PM

Oh yeah! TwilightBlade just reminded me! Noble, why don't you try participating in the upcoming icontest? :D They may be a good way for your to practice.

Morgnarok June 2nd, 2013 1:51 PM

Ya I made me a devaint page, im working on pixel art more so now but I did figure out how to set the magic eraser so it doesnt get ride of so much from the real picture.

As far as the contest I will get blown away and come in last place. If I want to practice I can do it on my own time.

Fairy June 2nd, 2013 4:37 PM

Well, that's a shame, I'm sure there's plenty of people who would like to see what icons you could come up with.

Speaking of which, the new Icontest #2 has been posted guys!

{go check it out}

TheFattestSnorlax June 2nd, 2013 6:37 PM

Hey, never thought this existed! I've been looking for something like this, but I can't seem to figure out why I can't find any good art of Snorlax. There are a lot of other Pokémon that are drawn far more than others, like the new ones announced, but finding what I want is a downright toughie. What do you guys think?

Fairy June 2nd, 2013 6:55 PM

Ah, I agree. It seems less popular Pokemon like Snorlax always fall to the wayside, in the shadow of the Lucarios and Arcanines out there. :c

TheFattestSnorlax June 2nd, 2013 7:04 PM

I had hoped that coming to this section would bring me some good Pokémon art but to no avail. Nothing interesting actually comes up when searching from thread to thread. I believe our Oekaki should be promoted so that we could make use of the good Pokémon art we have (It looks like it gets no views! That's a problem!). Then that way people will be happy.

derozio June 2nd, 2013 7:14 PM

Why don't you try searching at safebooru or pixiv? They always have some good pokemon fanart. ;D

As for oekaki...yeah, it is dead at his point. I personally never used it either, haha.

Fairy June 2nd, 2013 7:18 PM

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I've got some pretty great pokemon art in my gallery... just sayin'. >_>;

But hey, if you want to request a Snorlax piece than you've come to the right place! Small traditional / digital drawing requests are allowed here, and I'll happily doodle something up for you, if you'd like! n_n;

Fairy June 4th, 2013 11:39 PM

Haha, cool.

I'm a bit busy with other requests and projects, but I'll PM you soon!

Bartolomeo June 7th, 2013 9:26 PM

Apart from the sites mentioned by derozio, zerochan is another good place to look for fanarts.

Anyway, no real topic being discussed here, right? I'll ask a question then. Who, in your opinion, are one of the better graphic/traditional/digital artists of this forum? I've looked around and the ones which stood out to me are abnegation's gfx (and digital art), Loki & Pokestick as well as Alexial's digital art. There are some pretty sprites in alexial's gallery as well. Haven't ventured much in PA.

Also, do you need to be inspired to do good work? Any specific person/site which serves as a constant source of inspiration?

That is an excellent question and observation. :) And thank you!

I think you pretty much nailed it, Loki and Pokestick are definitely some of our strongest artists. Although, I personally wouldn't count myself among them. Not because I'm insecure in my own talents, mind you, but because they have this innate, inherent ability to create. It's not so much their individual skills I admire (which I still do, of course), but their techniques and styles. Also, they've had so much time to hone their digital/traditional skills and really develop them, so I definitely consider them not just my favorite artists in A&D, but artist's whom I personally look up to.

That being said, I believe every artist here deserves special mention. I think we all have strengths in different areas. The Pokedex project is a good example of this, as it pretty much displays our individual artistic weaknesses and how we compensate for them by working as a team to create a final, amazing product.

As for your second question, while I can't speak for anyone else, I find that some of my best pieces come from when I just doodle. Seldom do I sit down with a thought and complete it (unless doing a request, of course). But basically all of my completed works are just glorified sketches, so "inspiration" more or less only effects whether or not I pick up the pencil, not what I draw with it, if that makes sense. If I had to choose an artist here who's inspired me? Well, Abnegation and Derozio for sure.. not because we practice similar mediums because, well, we don't; but because they've pushed me to be a better artist on my own. Sites on the other hand? I'll get back to you on that. :p

Bartolomeo June 15th, 2013 3:47 AM

The art pokédex, of course. It definitely is shaping up to be quite a huge project. Gone through it a few times and I'd like to commend all the artists who've worked hard on it. There certainly is no lack of creativity in this forum when it comes to designing fakemons.

And, well, you're pretty damn good too. I just feel that your stronger pieces tend to be those that are based on western art while Pokey's and Loki's are more anime/east oriented. Your styles differ quite a bit; they're quite distinct. And that's definitely a good thing! The fact that you people have developed styles that are sorely your own and are instantly recognizable is a really good feat. One of the hardest things an artist has to deal with when he jumps into art is that he has to learn to carve an identity - he has to work hard to develop his own style. You all, in my opinion, have crossed that hurdle. I personally struggled for years to do it. Guess I still am doing it, haha.

And surely not. I wonder if there actually are artists that do it - "sit down with a thought and complete something", I mean. I personally haven't seen any as of yet. Inspiration or lack of it decides whether I open up PS or not. You might think I'm confusing "inspiration" with "motivation" but it's like...I feel motivated when I'm inspired. They both go with each other in my case.

Props to them for motivating you, btw. :p And you never got back to me. Makes Bart a sad puppy. I'll answer my own question, I suppose - I generally look over stuff from deviantart and tumblr. There are plenty of artists and their art that catches my attention and I go "wow, I must work hard to get better. JUST LOOK AT THEIR STUFF!". I don't really have any page bookmarked right now, though. I sort of...remember their name if they stick out to me. Take awasai's works (stumbled upon him on a One Piece site), for example:

He makes clay models. Former is the model of the Donquixote Doflamingo from One Piece while the latter is a collection of various protagonists from Indie games. Meatboy (from Super Meat Boy) and Tim (from Braid) are two instantly recognizable characters to those who are into Video Gaming. I don't make clay models, naah, but I certainly do feel like trying to learn how to do it when I look at them, haha. I should have posted some graphic artist or digital artist's works, I know, but his name is what came to mind first. Even though our mediums are NOTHING alike, haha. Inspiration can be derived from anywhere, right?

Sorry for the tl;dr, btw.

derozio July 20th, 2013 11:58 PM

Damn you Bartolomeo for killing the thread with your tl;dr. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Bumping this because I feel the need to state something - I just read a manga called Vagabond. Nevermind the incredibly mature story...the art. Man, is the guy talented. This is, no doubt, the most aesthetically appealing manga I've ever read. Most people probably wouldn't care to read it or whatever but at least google vagabond and check out the artwork, you guys. ;D

Fairy July 22nd, 2013 12:36 PM

Ah, I just checked it out.

Seems pretty neat! I don't know if it's something I'd read, but the art style is pretty cool. I love the way the artist does female faces. I'll post a good example when I find one that's not gigantic. xD Definitely worth searching though.

Benjamin85 August 4th, 2013 8:35 PM

i think try to introduce some unique idea about contest because every second forum doing this same type of contests.I think add some number game that every below person gives points to each other.

Fairy August 5th, 2013 3:57 PM

Forum games belong in the Forum Game section though. A&D is for showcasing art! And we do hold plenty of contests. :) Snowdrop's signature contest and icontest respectively. Along with a bunch of other traditional / gfx related contests when I'm not so lazy

TwilightBlade August 7th, 2013 7:07 PM

I can't get myself to make new signatures. I spend so much time looking for new resources (don't really want to recycle things in a sig) that I'm tired out by the time I open photoshop... So, how do you stay creative, Alexial? XD

I honestly thought I was the only one with this problem.

I guess we all have creative blocks xD they're pretty hard to get off of for me, sometimes I'll go weeks or months without being able to do something good on Photoshop or on paper. I have to look at something that's really inspiring enough for me to start thinking creatively again. Because of that, I have a folder in my desktop filled with amazing and inspiring works by other artists that I look at when I get stuck. It just helps me when I feel down and it makes me think "this is why I'm doing this, to get like that some day."

so anyways, yeah. How do you guys get off of creative blocks, if you've ever had any?

Fairy August 10th, 2013 8:53 PM

Aw, Zero, I always think your works are inspiring. <3

I was actually just talking to TwilightBlade about this. I once went on a 5 year long block from art. I just couldn't create art for a multitude of reasons. Five years of my life, metaphysically wasted. Nowadays, I'll sometimes go back and improve old drawings if I'm really stuck. Even if the drawing itself isn't all that inspired, I feel better knowing that I can improve upon something from the past. Just to remind myself that, yes, in fact, I have gotten better since then and it's not all for nothing lol.

Zero° August 11th, 2013 12:11 PM

Aww thanks Alexial<3 I think your sprite works are inspiring too, more than that actually they're absolutely beautiful. I don't post on your gallery but I'm a huge fan of yours xD

Five year block? That's a super long block, I think the longest block I've had was 8 months so I can't even compare that yours. I don't really improve old works of mine, but what I do is I use the same render from one of my old works and make something different than from the first time I used that render, just too see if I've improved and to try out different colours and styles.

derozio August 20th, 2013 10:19 AM

That's generally the way to go. I do that too, man. And it really does help one in gauging how much one has improved.

oh and can i just say that i think both your galleries are precious?! I love them.

Sheep August 20th, 2013 1:55 PM

I've been in a huge art block for at least a year now. Nothing ever comes out how I want and I end up putting the tablet down 10 minutes into drawing. :( Doesn't help that my tablet is sticky and gross from being dropped and left on the floor for a while.. I'm going to try and get a bigger one. If I can do that, I hope to get more into art again!

Shiny Espeon is now on my list of things I should draw! :D

And yeah dA has been a suggestion but.. I don't really find it to help me at all. Most of the time seeing amazing artists makes me feel even worse about my own abilities, urg. Music and anime tend to help, though.

lol sometimes it has the opposite affect:P also, i find looking at like resource websites gives some inspiration because if you see a picture or a pattern you might want to use it or draw it!

Sheep August 22nd, 2013 12:22 PM

Yeah, just sadly it only has that one negative affect on me. Uuugh. Resource websites are amazing though, it encourages me to want to do more graphics! <3

Zero° August 22nd, 2013 6:47 PM

dero making me smile <3 your gallery is so awsome too, all of your galleries actually.

and I love getting new resources too, i open up photoshop as soon as I download something new just to make something with it.

Kanzler August 22nd, 2013 6:57 PM

hey behbeh i found you here and now i'll never leave~

i don't photoshop, but i'm trying to turn my drawings into digitally-looking pieces. maybe i'll get into the game like yall are doing right now :D consider this my introduction.

alisaie August 22nd, 2013 7:31 PM

I've been doodling a lot more lately but none of my images (only one which still isn't completely regardless) never really seem to get past the sketch. I really want to actually complete one but I think it might be motivation or I just find things wrong with the piece I don't bother with it anymore? Might be a mix of both but I really wish I could just wash those feelings away and actually finish something haha. ;;

Kotone August 22nd, 2013 7:52 PM

the hardest resource i always have finding is fonts:P i just love cute little girly fonts, but everyone seems to use simple fonts for their tags >.< i'm just weird :P

alisaie August 22nd, 2013 9:04 PM

To me simply fonts are more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, rather than curly font that normally seem out of place in a graphic. Of course there are exception to this.

Kanzler August 22nd, 2013 9:12 PM

I really like atheist fonts, I think they are the most atheistically pleasing. ^^

I like big fonts, as well as big sigs and big avatars.

Kotone August 25th, 2013 7:33 AM

i think it just depends on what look you're going for when you're using fonts. that's my solution lol.

alisaie August 27th, 2013 7:26 AM

And it's a good solution! I can't say much though since I'm kind of on a graphics block? But not on a drawing block anymore so that's good! Actually finished a piece yesterday though the intention wasn't to draw what I ended up drawing at all. Also happened with what I sketched yesterday after that. But I don't think I'll be painted or finish drawing the latter.

Story of my damn life right there. Save official requests, I'm so whimsical with my sketching. I don't know if it's my personality or my philosophy, but my drawings just naturally morph. That mega Scizor I did started out as Homestuck fanart. :x

you should post your drawing!

whenever i'm on a drawing block, i try looking for inspiration or i don't draw at all because i feel like it'll turn out ugly lol.

I know, right? I mean, it's so easy to get lost and find something else cool to do, sometimes the half-completed sketch even compliments the pose! If you want to concentrate on a specific art, bring a brain-squisher with you!

Sheep September 11th, 2013 4:05 PM

Urg, I'm so all over the place with my art. One thing will start out being completely different or halfway into my drawing I'd realize it would look better as something other than what I was planning on drawing. I notice I draw a lot better when I'm just sketching quickly than actually trying to make a good picture, too. xD;

derozio September 19th, 2013 10:04 AM

Ooh, I'm better than you guys in this aspect, at least. I always finish what I intended to make in the first place. Although the results are generally crappy but that's another story...

Also, graphics people. We need more of those. ;_____;

Elaitenstile September 19th, 2013 7:42 PM

Well, you're a lucky one. At least you get to be consistent :P
That's true we need more artists overall :P
I'm sure learning gfx will take some time but... I can try to XD

alisaie September 20th, 2013 12:10 PM

I do graphics! Well... kinda. More avatars than anything. And I'm a pretty decent artist so I'm pretty decent overall I guess.

Most true thing in the history of true truths. I really wish there was more activity in this section, especially graphics wise. I need to stop making one sig and then going on a three month break, lol.

TwilightBlade September 21st, 2013 2:35 PM

I made a banner today, but I don't really like it. Too ugly to post. I rarely know how a piece will end, haha. I need Dero's love and guidance.

CreativeVision September 21st, 2013 2:41 PM

lols I'm familiar with the not knowing how my art is going to turn out too. But it might be a simple case of getting sidetracked very easily..

alisaie September 21st, 2013 5:46 PM

I never know how my piece is going to turn out until I am finished with it if I do finish it. Which reminds me that I did want to try making something this weekend but I haven't done so yet. I have time tonight so maybe I'll grab my tablet and try.

Zero° September 21st, 2013 6:30 PM

I never know exactly how my pieces turn out, but I usually have a general idea about that before I start working on something. But there are times where something unexpected happens and I end up steering off from what I originally planned to work on, for better or worse lol.

I'll probably make a new icon to match with my current signature, because cute pink girl and bunny don't go well with glitchy splatters. Then I'll attempt to make a new tag with some of the new resources I got. New meaning I got them 2-3 months ago but haven't used any of them yet xD

Silais September 27th, 2013 2:00 PM

Looking for a good-quality recolor?

Hey guys! I'm looking to have a picture recolored, not for profit but just for fun for a character I'm working on. I've tried it myself but haven't had any luck with my software so I was wondering if anyone else could recolor it for me?

This is the image:

http://s10.postimg.org/qmbox8gp5/griffin_by_sandara_d2m67v5.jpg

I'm looking to have the gryphon recolored white with a green eye and the girl's hair to be gold-blonde. Like I said, this isn't for profit or anything, just to help me reference some physical traits for a character I'm writing.

Please let me know if I'm breaking any rules! I didn't see any that prohibited this but I could be wrong. Thank y'all!

TwilightBlade September 27th, 2013 3:03 PM

Ehh, this could go in the art DCC. I went ahead and did the request since I was in the neighborhood. Sorry if it's sloppy.

http://i.imgur.com/qzTg6qc.png

Fairy September 27th, 2013 3:07 PM

Went ahead and merged with the DCC. :) Requests like this are best in here.

Also, I don't think that's sloppy at all, Blade! It's beautiful!

derozio September 27th, 2013 3:31 PM

Why are you so talented, sis? I envy your skills. ;_____;

TwilightBlade September 27th, 2013 3:34 PM

The silver/green shading on the wing bugged me so much. ;__; But then I was like hey, what if its left wing is silver and right wing is gold?! lol original character do not steal

alisaie September 29th, 2013 12:47 PM

I'm guessing that under the wing it one color and the top is another color. Best thing I can figure out when it comes to that.

I have so many sketches that I'm tempted to complete but at the same time I'm not sure haha. But I finished something last night for an art trade and I'm so legit proud of it and I can definitely see the improvement that I've gotten from say... a month ago. I'm pretty impressed with myself not gonna lie.

Elaitenstile September 30th, 2013 12:17 AM

I made a few sketches based on fake Mega-Evolutions the other day but I don't think I could post it up before X & Y gets released... because no scanner. I hate my life. Sometimes I wish I had some kind of a graphics tablet or make my hand my computer mouse.

+dat feeling you get when you see something is wrong and you can't fix it for the life of you with a COMPUTER MOUSE

Aww wow, yours is getting improvement! I find it hard to see a difference between my quality of sketches but then... I guess I couldn't think of doing such stuff three months back XD

derozio September 30th, 2013 9:32 AM

Why not capture the images with a camera, though?

Elaitenstile September 30th, 2013 10:58 PM

Well, let's just say the "camera" in question is an iPad... I think I'm not such a technology geek but I'm not really thinking I could extract images out of it. Nevertheless, I'll try it.

PS - I saw you started sketches, Dero! They look awesome! I would think with your talent you'd be inclined to do more of the kind XD

Owlette October 1st, 2013 2:32 PM

I started posting my doodles here with a camera way back when. At least an iPad has a little more to offer than your 2mp DS camera. :p I think the iPad camera should work out fine for you. Usually they do well in low lighting, so things should come out just fine, imo (then again, I've never used an iPad for anything more than solitaire, let alone the camera sooo).

Fujitora October 3rd, 2013 10:40 AM

Weird alt name you have there, Jo. :p Oh and yeah, I use a 2 MP mobile camera too. iPad should be fine. Show us them pics. Oh, and thanks for the compliments, hoenn! <3

Rezilia October 4th, 2013 2:07 PM

A new manga/comic: Snowbound

http://www.snowboundmanga.com/

^ It is NOT mine. I just saw it and was like, "Awesome!" The preview shows major dedication and the animated trailer parts show it as well.

It's funny. The story is slightly generic but the character development is unique.

Fairy October 4th, 2013 3:51 PM

Your thread seems more like DCC material, so I through it in here Rezilia. :)

You're weird. :p And I like owls because they see even through the most thinly veiled alts.

Kanzler October 14th, 2013 9:16 PM

So that's Yuki, eh? Interesting...

Fairy October 15th, 2013 12:27 PM

Oh wow! Those paintings are so cute O07_eleven! I'm not familiar with the anime, but judging by the quality it seems like the seller captured their personalities very well.

Exactly how big are they? It's kinda hard to tell from the picture. I'm just curious because I've always wanted to make/sell some of my own. n_n;

Elaitenstile November 2nd, 2013 5:03 AM

Been stale for a while so I guess I'll hop in with another topic.

What are your views/ratings on anime art everyone?

Ps this is so cool! I love it!

Silais November 4th, 2013 6:50 PM

Can anyone improve this?

I've been making an alicorn princess on Paint (I know, I'm old school) and I think I've gotten a general design of her, but I really need someone to clean it up and make it look legitimate. Her name is Princess Curia (meaning "court" in Latin) and she is a master of the law and justice. She gained her horn (she was a pegasus before becoming an alicorn) after proving the guilt of a pony who was close to destroying the ruling family of Equestria. Just a quick story I made up, may write something about it later. But first, I need a good solid character to build upon!

I'd like to see a lighter blonde stripe in her mane and tail, but I like the general design of her hairstyle and her color. Her cutie mark is supposed to be a gavel (judge's hammer) but I'm not nearly artistic enough to make one on my own. Can anyone else make this character look more like a real pony from the show? I'd be forever grateful!
