A New Begining

So, After 6 long years of being a hardcore world of warcraft gamer I quit and I am returning to pokemon and since quitting WoW I have so much more time. I don't feel obligated or forced to have to do anything anymore. I am interested in learning to make pokemon avatars and signatures using photoshop. I have never worked with graphics before so I was hoping you guys could help me out. Any type of guides? Maybe tutorials? Btw I don't wish to start with gimp!

In a couple of days when I get money in the bank ill have about 300 dollars to spend so I am going to buy the top photoshop version. Which one is the best and has the most features?

I am sorry if this is in wrong section :(

Hey there!

Unfortunately, A&D is reserved for discussion about art, galleries, shops, things like that.. and this thread wouldn't generate much discussion beyond the question, especially since we have a place for questions like this. However, before I close this thread, I will take this opportunity to help you out to the best of my ability. :)

First of all, check out our very own A&D Resource Thread! The first half is dedicated to graphic design and includes many tutorials on how to effectively make tags icons. The second post is dedicated to traditional / digital art, but includes a bunch of links to different Photoshop tutorials, so that may come in handy for you!

Second, in the traditional / digital section of the resource thread, there is a list of free illustration programs. One great place to start is GIMP and it comes highly recommended! As for Photoshop, well, I'm not all that informed when it comes to their prices.. but generally speaking it's pretty expensive. You're better off honing your skills in a different program (like GIMP) and working up and by that I mean saving up for Photoshop. I've got cs7 though, and it is pretty great. ;)

Third, if you have anymore questions like this, please post them in the DCC! There, we can have an open discussion with all of the artists who work in similar mediums.

I hope this was a tiny bit helpful! Again, if you still would like some followup help, please post in the DCC or don't be afraid to VM me. :3

Good luck!

For starters, if you wanna learn the basics of tag/banner making, I'd suggest you check this thread out. It has resources, tutorials as well as explanations about the basic aspects of banner/tag making. There's quite a lot of stuff in the thread and it's quite a bit of a read so, yeah, just saying. XD;

As for you not picking GIMP...well, I'm not surprised. GIMP is not bad. But it lacks the versatility and functionality of PS. Photoshop is, overall, much better. Although, personally, I find the prices a little too much. Needless to say, I pirated my version. :p But if you are looking for the 'best' version around, it's probably going to be the creative suite 6. It's the latest and is bound to have more features than the previous entries. I haven't tried it myself but that's because I'm content with CS5.

Though, in all honesty, you can make tags/banners just fine in almost any photoshop. I used to make those in Photoshop 7. That's a very old version. But yeah, since you're ready to shell out $300 - a quick search and I came across this page. It's CS6. Although I think it's only for students. You're one, right? :p Students and teachers do get quite a bit of a discount by Adobe, to be honest.

Edit; goddammit alex, ninja'd me
