Did you use your Riolu?

Same question like Rainbow Arcanine's but with Riolu instead.
On Iron Mountain in D/P/Pt you recieve an egg that contains Riolu. Did you bother using him, evolving into Lucario by any chance? If yes, was he a strong part of your team, that you could rely on him? If no, did you just put him on Box and didn't even bother using him in future?

Personally, when I bulit my dream team, I haven't used him, because there was no need to. I had already a strong team.

curiousnathan May 31st, 2013 11:41 PM

Nope! I've never trained a Riolu/Lucario. The main reason I didn't make use of him was because I already had a pretty solid team at that point in the game. Plus, I really cbad training a level 1 Pokemon up to my 34+ team. [/lazy]

Aslan May 31st, 2013 11:46 PM

I gave it a go, after two hours of training, I gave up completely. I'm just not the type of person who has the effort to raise a Pokemon from Level 1 to where my team was at that point, which was roughly in the low 40s. Although Lucario is a great Pokemon, I had a fairly decent team already and it wasn't worth the effort. Maybe one day I'll go back and train it up properly though. :o

Hikamaru May 31st, 2013 11:48 PM

I did use it once on my brother's Diamond version once, but I don't know if I'll ever use it in any future D/P/Pt playthroughs since it's hard training something all the way from Level 1.

Kikaito plush June 1st, 2013 1:34 AM

I did not use it in Pearl, I just did not want to re do my team when I received the egg.

Khoshi June 1st, 2013 1:45 AM

As much as I wanted to use it, I just left it in my box forever. I didn't find much use in it, and even though Riolu/Lucario are pretty strong, I just didn't find a good spot for it in my team.

Brendino June 1st, 2013 1:47 AM

By the time that I got the Riolu egg from Riley, my team was already long planned out, so I didn't bother trying to train my Riolu at all. In fact, I think I put the egg in the PC not long after I got it, and it must've taking me a good month or so before I even bothered to hatch it.

If we had been able to get it earlier in the game, I probably would've had a shot at making it a core part of my team (just like I did with a Riolu from Flocessy Ranch in W2), but at that point, I really didn't care.

.:batto:. June 1st, 2013 2:00 AM

He isn't worth training Tbh. There are much better pokemon out there worthy of being in a party. lucario isn't one of these worthy pokemon.

PlatinumDude June 1st, 2013 7:12 AM

Yes, I'm one of those people who actually took the time and effort to train up the Riolu I got from Iron Island. So that Riolu/Lucario had a chance at the parts after Iron Island, I took some time off from the main storyline to train it up using the Vs. Seeker on trainers I previously battled.

And when Riolu did evolve into Lucario, it basically wrecked things.

Da_Man32 June 1st, 2013 11:10 AM

^ Respect.

That Riolu egg comes too late, unfortunately. By that time, my team was about lv 40. I already had a great fighting Pokemon (Infernape). As much as I admire Lucario, there was no reason to train a Riolu from level one.

Doccit June 1st, 2013 11:32 AM

He cames too late in the game for me. I was already attached to my other pokemon.

Firox June 1st, 2013 1:13 PM

I haven't gotten there yet (I just got my 8th badge in Pearl) I know I won't use it, I'm already attached to my team. I plan on buying Platinum, I'll probably transfer him to that game and use it in a team.

-Oops June 1st, 2013 2:40 PM

I don't think I used it. Diamond was my first pokemon game I don't even know what the heck I was doing. Lol.

LonelyBarstool June 1st, 2013 2:59 PM

I think I had such a solid team by the point that I got Riolu that I decided to just roll without it, even though Lucario is pretty sweet.

Satoshi Ookami June 1st, 2013 11:10 PM

Yeah, I used it. I've been waiting for Riolu all along =D

Treecko June 1st, 2013 11:52 PM

I did one my first run of Diamond I didn't have set team at the time and I thought Lucario was the coolest Pokemon gen IV introduced and was overall my favorite Fighting type so to me training it from level one was worth it.

Elaitenstile June 2nd, 2013 2:13 AM

At first, I never got around hatching the egg. I figured it cool later on, so on my training-for-elite-four run, I decided to give the egg a little piggyback. It took sooo long to hatch IMO.

Then I was like, cool. A Riolu. Obviously evolving into that ever-so-awesome-god Lucario who everyone talks about. I thought, what the heck. I trained it to level 8, and it evolved into Lucario. Nice. End of story, you go to PC now. And I forgot about it.

Later on I was like what the shizz Lucario is this awesome? Amazing stats! And so from then on I make it a point to consider using it.

Sabrewulf238 June 2nd, 2013 3:16 AM

No I just boxed him.

I think at that point I was happy with my team though.

Amore June 2nd, 2013 6:18 AM

Yes. Not the first time through Diamond (I didn't actually discover Iron Island until 2009 a couple of months before I got Platinum, somehow). But I then used Riolu on Diamond and a couple of my runthroughs of Platinum. I take the time to train it because Riolu and Lucario are up there among my favourites. I tend not to even use vs. seeker that much, preferring to battle wild pokémon with Riolu rather than exp. share. Although this means that his EVs are fairly imbalanced - a few Bidoof and Starly fall in the early levels, and about level 20+ he gets a lot of Defence from Geodude / Graveler / Onix in Iron Island.

Warship June 7th, 2013 4:17 AM

i didnt use it during the main story but then i decided to train it as i had no better thing to do and ever since that day im a lucario fanboy. also its been a very important part of my team

Akiba June 7th, 2013 5:04 AM

I'm rather selective about my Pokemon, so my party was still only about three strong by the time I got the Riolu egg. Lucario has a great moveset, and decent base stats.

King Of Pokemon June 7th, 2013 10:28 AM

I used for awhile, then forgot about it :P

SubVirus June 7th, 2013 11:53 AM

I used it. and Lucario was probably my strongest or 2nd strongest on my team.

Elmogvy June 7th, 2013 12:17 PM

At first I raised a riolu from an egg, evolved it, and trained for a while. Then I took it off from my team since at that point I had no motives to raise it. I figured that having a Zaptos, Giratina, Latias, Gastrodon, Vaporeon, and Altria are okay for now : )

Pinta77 June 7th, 2013 2:34 PM

Nope. I ddn't use that one and i didnt use the other a million I got from the dream radar. Ya Lucario is good I guess but I never used one.

Pinkie-Dawn June 7th, 2013 2:51 PM

I have used the Riolu from both my Pearl copy and my Platinum copy, and they are permanent members of my teams.

Pikayosh June 7th, 2013 3:50 PM

Lucario is great I used him and he destroys

™87 June 9th, 2013 11:56 AM

No I did not. I didn't want to train a level 1 up, especially since I was that far into the game. I will train it up to get a Lucario to complete the Dex.

The_Consumer June 10th, 2013 7:40 AM

I stashed him into a PC. I have used a Riolu that was traded to me before and evolved it into his older form, however...but I have yet to withdraw my own Riolu given to me at Iron Mountain and use it.

Hyzenthlay June 12th, 2013 2:52 AM

Well when I first received the egg and hatched it, I was pretty happy about having a Riolu! But the truth is I never used it (because I'm just too lazy). I leveled it to four, maybe even five and then put it away in the PC, never to be seen or heard from again. It just wouldn't fit in my team, plus they were all in their late thirties in level.

Seraphimon-sama June 12th, 2013 6:53 AM

I only ever used it if it hatched as female.

Sableye~ June 20th, 2013 8:23 AM

Nope. I did train it enough for it to evolve, but that's it. I later bred him and obtained a Naive-natured Riolu which I EV trained, though.

Starry Windy June 21st, 2013 11:52 PM

I boxed my Riolu because at that time I have already planned a team.

RudeStyle June 22nd, 2013 3:33 AM

By the time I got the riolu egg I had a pretty solid team + I usually have a strong fighting type by that point xD

Aelita Schaeffer June 22nd, 2013 4:47 AM

I did it, even though i already fighting pokemon on the team, i still did it because Lucario is one of my favorite mons...even if he did replace mewtwo.

Gandhi Savage June 22nd, 2013 6:52 AM

I've personally never used a Riolu in a playthrough of D/P/Pt, as of yet. I always intend to but by Canalave I usually have a full team.

However I'm considering another playthrough soon using Pokémon I haven't used properly yet including Lucario, Gastrodon, Drifblim, Roserade, Garchomp and hopefully a Fire type as well. I have free time now so I'm probably gonna start on it soon.

Shrew July 13th, 2013 6:33 PM

He ended up becoming team member #7. :P

TheKurtzinator July 17th, 2013 8:02 PM

As soon as I hatched the egg, I trained for hours until it became a Lucario. It is one of my favorite team members and is currently sitting at Lv100. I have no regrets.

XeroNos July 17th, 2013 11:37 PM

Yes , I am using my Riolu but in my play through of Heart Gold where I hacked it.:P

CliCliW July 18th, 2013 3:53 AM

I'm using it on my team right now. I managed to evolve my Riolu at level 16 or so (legitimately through a ton of massages and vitamins and a soothe bell!) and he learned bone rush for me, which was AWESOME! Personally, I can't see why someone wouldn't use Lucario at least once - he's amazing.

And to all those not raising Riolu because it would take ages... wut? really? It only took me about an hour to evolve him and then get him to about 22-25, by which time I was about to start heading for Snowpoint City. A good Lucario with about 100 attack EVs and Force Palm 1HKOs most of the icetype Pokemon on that route. That's easy training right there. He was easily only 2-4 levels lower than the rest of my team (about 38 or so) by the time it came to the Gym Leader.

He's one of the easiest Pokemon to grind up considering when and where you get him and where you're headed next..

Cerberus87 July 18th, 2013 5:04 AM

I had Infernape so no point in raising a redundant Pokémon.

Recommended if you start with Turtwig, though.

Sheep July 30th, 2013 11:16 AM

I did! I loved his design and couldn't resist training him up. :) He became one of the powerhouses on my team in Diamond.

BlueMudkipz July 30th, 2013 11:20 AM

Lucario was by far my favorite Pokemon in the Sinnoh region, so I used it as one of my main Pokemon in my Diamond team. ~blu

Infinite Latios July 30th, 2013 11:26 AM

Of course I did. You'd have to be insane not to, it evolves into Lucario.

Exactly what I was thinking.
Lucario is one of my favorite Pokémon ever, but It comes waaaaaaaaay too late in the game. Besides, when I was 5, I didn't know what I was doing. {XD}

Kevin121 August 5th, 2013 2:04 PM

I actually did. But afterwards i havent used him as much. Until i played Black 2

Sirfetch’d August 5th, 2013 9:04 PM

I actually boxed mine and totally forgot about it. I do wish I had raised it though as I love Lucario!

Kanzler August 5th, 2013 9:14 PM

Never when I played with Infernape. Steel-type resistances are nice, but I just found it to be a bit redundant. Should've played with Torterra more.

Silais August 6th, 2013 5:01 AM

I never really raised mine, just walked around with it long enough to hatch the egg. I think maybe once I raised it to a Lucario, but never used it on my team.

Aeroblast August 6th, 2013 11:45 AM

At that point it was just level 1, and I didn't really bother levelling it up to 40s where all my other Pokemon were, so it just become a box filler, unfortunately.

Squirrel August 7th, 2013 8:48 PM

Nope! I've always found the Lucario family to be pretty boring. They're so "look at me I'm amazing" whilst offering little to know proof bar having a movie dedicated to them haha. The Steel/Fighting typing is very cool and Aura Sphere was a huge bonus, but aside from those points I've never gotten on with Lucario. The design is scary and he seems very over-rated to me.

Fernando Torres August 17th, 2013 4:23 PM

Unfortunately no. I already had a team planned out and Lucario just didn't fit. I had Infernape so I thought there was no reason to get another fighting type.

Hiatus August 17th, 2013 5:05 PM

When my Riolu hatched, its ability was adamant. Adamant is the best nature a Riolu can have, and because of that, I immediately began training him. Once he evolved into Lucario, I started to EV train 'em and make him as strong as I possibly can. When it finally reached level 100, I made him an official member of my online battling team. I didn't want to have this Pokémon on my team at first, but I guess plans can always change. ^^"

KorpiklaaniVodka August 18th, 2013 3:32 AM

Whenever I choose Chimchar, I never use Riolu on my team as I find Infernape to be a Fighting-type.

However, I did use Riolu in one Platinum playthrough (when Torterra was my starter), and it proved quite useful.

Starlight Sprite August 18th, 2013 5:16 AM

In gen4, nope. I had heard Lucario was good and I loved him in the anime movie, but I didn't want to take the time to raise him up from an egg. My team was already rounded out at that point and I couldn't replace anyone. In B/W2 however, they were available much earlier, and my Lucario became a valued team member for the whole game. :7:

Radiam August 18th, 2013 3:12 PM

I've used the Riolu in a few play-throughs, not all of them though. I don't like using it all the time. Something I would always do though is pick up the egg, even if I wasn't going to use it. I liked to complete my Pokedex. It was rather easy back then. Now with more than 600 Pokemon in the Pokedex, it's a challenge! D:

Synerjee August 19th, 2013 3:55 AM

I've actually never really used that Riolu before in my teams because I either didn't have a spot for a Fighting/Steel-type in my teams or I already had another Fighting-type. I don't like duplicate types. The most I did was to hatch Riolu and evolve him to Lucario for Pokedex-filling reasons.

Falsever August 19th, 2013 5:18 AM

I used it, cos Lucario. It's cool in my opinion.
I don't even think there're people who didn't use Riolu. xD

Dark Zapdos August 19th, 2013 8:46 AM

Nope it sat in my pc as my pokemon where in there late 30's at the time I got it.

alisaie August 19th, 2013 8:52 AM

I tried using it but for some reason it just didn't suit me very well so eventually I decided to switch it out for a Honchkrow in my Platinum. Maybe someday I'll try using him again but I suppose it's just not the type of Pokemon I can use for some reason?

Altair August 19th, 2013 1:41 PM

I didn't use it in my main in-game team, but I did hatch it so I could get a Pokedex page registered... I did end up evolving it post game, along with many other Pokemon I was evolving for the Dex, by giving an Exp. Share and grinding at the league.

Emburn August 19th, 2013 2:04 PM

I really didn't know much about Lucario when I got the Riolu, but I thought it was a legendary, so I did train him a lot and evolved him and Lucario really did wreck.

tommax August 20th, 2013 4:40 AM

Riolu was a huge part of my team in diamond it was a funny story no lie. It hatched shiny!
No lie. So yeah, its the one you see in my trainer card. It was my first shiny (Which at the time I actually didn't know anything about shinys) so i thought it was too precious to keep in a box so I gave it an exp. share and know its level 94. :)

KillerHamster August 21st, 2013 1:43 PM

I never had the chance to ever train him. He just basically sits on my PC all day.

centrikmeh September 2nd, 2013 7:23 AM

Fortunately, I just got it hatched from the given egg. And of course, I will need to raise it to have a strong team. Currently I have a 49 Empoleon and 48 Rapidash which are the strongest in my team hence I need to use it.

BillyTheBumGamez September 18th, 2013 11:47 AM

Oh man! I never thought about it in ages! Well I got the egg before beating the gym leader at canalave. After I transferred my L.G. & EM pkmn I was all set! But my favorite other then (Charizard) is Lucario so I wanted to train it soo bad. So I just got him to Lv.50! (he's O.P man!)

Dreg October 14th, 2013 1:40 AM

The team that I did have, I had no room for Riolu, so I just left him in the box. And there today he still sits.

KawaiiFutureFriend October 14th, 2013 5:25 AM

I always wanted to use Riolu so bad. But I never learned how to evolve it, and to this day I still don't know how to evolve it. I don't think I ever do want to know, in the grim chance that I might accidentally figure out how to do it one of these days.

IggyKoopa October 14th, 2013 7:29 AM

No, I didn't use it, since my lead is a Lucario that I got from the GTS well before I got the Riolu egg.

krabbypatz93 October 14th, 2013 1:53 PM

Yeah, it was kind of a pain for me, but I went through the trouble of raising it up to level with the rest of team, took awhile to get it up to the 30-40's where everyone else was at, but it was always worth it .

Treetwig October 14th, 2013 5:02 PM

I hate riolu but I hatched a shiny riolu!!!

P.S:100% legit

Elysieum October 18th, 2013 11:58 AM

Nah that Riolu egg came into the picture after my team was fully formed. Pretty terrible timing, because Lucario is obviously an attractive option to any team. That's why I was happy to see it early on in B/W 2.

Ewery1 October 18th, 2013 2:42 PM

I used it in platinum, it was actually a big part of my team later, and I used it to defeat the elite four.

#expshare

johnnyman October 19th, 2013 4:22 AM

I used it. Somewhat... It was like level 20 before I put him into the PC box. I might come back to it though.

Dualik October 29th, 2013 2:54 PM

Lucario is one of my favourite pokemon and that egg is the reason. Despite the level gap, it's not like it took all that much work to bring him up to speed with the rest of my team and upon doing so I didn't regret it.

Pilkie October 30th, 2013 4:45 AM

On my first playthrough of diamond, I tried training him. I only got him to level 20 before I realized it would take to long for him to catch up with my Level 40 team. I also chose Chimchar, which meant I already had a pokémon with fighting moves.

However, on the playthrough I am working on right now, I am considering training him because my team can use a good fighting/steel type to fill in the 6th slot in my team. It's going to be between him and my Onyx (whom I am Considering evolving into a steelix, I have trained him since after the first gym battle). But, I am probably going to save the metal coat so I can get a Scizor, so it's a tough choice. I think I will try training him with the Vs. Seeker on this playthrough. Maybe I'll trade him into X/Y (if possible) to use later on.

RecursiveAcronym October 30th, 2013 11:27 AM

I did once! He was a good member of my team, filling in the fighting gap I had and had a nice secondary type. I pretty much grinded until he evolved when he was like level 28 or 29. He caught up pretty quickly, especially because he carried my team for the next two gyms.

Pilkie October 30th, 2013 4:28 PM

Okay, here is a quick update. I just went through Iron Island on my current Diamond playthrough and picked up my Riolu egg. I am going to hatch it and train it into a Lucario and probably switch my Onyx out with it. I will tell you if it is worth doing if you would like, but it is going to take some time to get this little guy up to speed. I can probably use him in the Ice-Type gym.

[Lucian] October 30th, 2013 4:34 PM

I over trained it and my Lucario was Lvl. 60 when i got to the next gym.

Agous October 31st, 2013 10:53 AM

I never used a Riolu until I had completeed the game and already had a formidable team. I used one on BW2. But on DPP, Lucario isnt that good. You have to invest many TM's on it and its power wont OHKO anything before it gets OHKO'd itslef.

The Ash-Ketchum November 17th, 2013 9:57 AM

Its in my battle zone 1st team

Alexander Nicholi November 17th, 2013 10:34 AM

I didn't use it in my first Diamond run-through (I was a noob), but I incorporated it as my lead Pokémon in Platinum. It had an awesome moveset, and I nicknamed it "Pharaoh". Good times~

Gardevoir the Dragon Slayer November 17th, 2013 10:45 AM

Nope, first time I used Lucario was actually in Super smash bros haha, first time ive had one on my team is in X, Riolus really cute in amie, especially then he trys to grab a pokepuff from you.

Natnew November 17th, 2013 4:23 PM

I used it... no catch challenge XD
that's it, though.

Aquacorde December 9th, 2013 7:31 PM

I think I used Riolu for my main team once in Pearl because why not, right? It served me well. Lucario is hyped for a reason- 'cause it's good. That was like the only time I've used one on my team, though. I don't think I was planning to add him to the team; just was like "oh I guess this guy could be more useful than (whatever I had)."

TwilightBlade December 9th, 2013 9:13 PM

I... I don't think I even collected my Riolu. @[email protected] My brother did and I bred some using Lucario, lol.

Platina Berlitz December 9th, 2013 10:50 PM

My team was full when he went to give me the egg. I forgot about it until the end of the game then traded it away for a shiny Milotic

Charizard17 December 22nd, 2013 7:08 PM

I hatched then boxed him for a while. On the release of Heartgold/Soulsilver, I traded him to Soulsilver along with my Luxray. He was used in my first Soulsilver league clear.

TheRestlessSoul December 22nd, 2013 7:42 PM

I remember having him and being surprised when he evolved at a low level because i didn't realise he evolved on high friendship at the time.. i don't think i used him much after that.. :P

Aether★ May 1st, 2014 12:48 AM

Didn't think I will get so many answers. Kinda bumping this tread, because I want to see more responses!

acatfrommars May 1st, 2014 8:53 PM

I never bothered training riolu to get through the main storyline of Diamond and Pearl. You receive it at such a low level in an inconvenient part of the game that it almost seems like a hassle in having to train it. Lucario is one of my favorite Pokemon, and I've used it in other games (like Pokemon X) but I never used him in Generation 4.

Pepperton May 17th, 2014 8:05 PM

Back when generation IV was the newest thing in Pokemon, Lucario was on basically everyone's teams, so I didn't want to use it. I did like his design, and I've used him in later games sparingly, but not in Diamond, Pearl or Platinum. Nothing against the line though. Riolu is adorable n__n

Blazikong May 18th, 2014 12:42 PM

I actually really wanted to use him, but he was way too under leveled for my team. I tried grinding him, pokedaycare, a lot of things. In the end, he just never caught up. It was wasting too much time.

Pendraflare May 18th, 2014 12:52 PM

I don't remember ever using it in-game, just because I always found other stuff I had more fun going with. He does have a nice variety of attacks he can learn, though.
