The Pokémon Trainer Association

Hello, and welcome to The Pokémon Trainer Association! The aim of this club is simple; it's a place to chill back and relax after a long day of training your team. Whether you're working towards a goal and want help or just want to share your day's progress, this is the place for you to be. Join us as we share our tips and tricks to become the best Pokémon trainers out there! As ideas on what to posts, these are the general topics of the club:
  • Training an in-game team
  • Training a competitive team
  • EV training
  • Training to evolve
  • Training for milestones (eg x Pokémon at Level 100)
  • Training methods
  • Set challenges for your fellow trainers to accomplish!
  • Anything else you can think of :D

Trainer Sprints
Club activity is divided into Trainer Sprints; what's that, you say? Well, just the usual shenanigans, but there's also a fun theme to go with it! Each Sprint last for a month, and during this time, aside from posting their usual training updates, everyone is invited to have fun with the Sprint's special project, basically training Pokemon that match the Sprint's theme, and participate in quick mini-events and themed discussion topics.

Current Sprint: SPRING FLING
Past Sprints: Naughty or nice - December 2013 | New Beginnings - October 2013 | Pirates - September 2013

Rules & Ban List
Make sure you follow the rules :)
  • Follow all forum-wide and Pokémon Clubs rules.
  • Don't mock others for having weaker Pokémon!
  • Try to keep posts somewhat detailed.
  • While you're welcome to post your in-game progress, also make sure to talk about actual training, e.g. your training methods and how your Pokemon are faring, share or ask for training tips etc.
  • HAVE FUN :D

Join Us!
This club doesn't have a member list as it's very much a "just make a post and you're in" kind of deal, but if you're looking for a way to introduce yourself then feel free to fill out the form below.

Your Goals: I'm pretty much training to battle at the in-game battle facilities. Right now I'm at the PWT looking to win all the Leaders tournaments. Failing hard at Johto, but I've got the rest done. My other plans are competing in the Black Tower/White Treehollow and eventually getting all the Challenge medals in my B2. I may also give the Battle Subway another chance at some point, maybe.

Hi Miau, welcome to the club :) How have you been getting on with the goals so far? Basically you seem to be aiming to complete every single in-game battle challenge possible, which is a tall order but I'm sure you'll be able to no problem! What kind of teams do you use and how are you training them? :o

Welcome to the club, Zoka! I like your goal for sure, but more information would be great. :D What kind of teams are you using? How are you training them to do this? Do you use EV training and competitive move sets? I'd love to know more, if you're willing to share! :)

I've been really lazy with my Pokemon games. I've never actually finished a game outside of the Fourth Generation so there's something to work on- although I'm pretty close to finishing Black 2. In general, I'm planning to finish at least one game from every generation and get something to Level 100 for once. It takes a lot of effort for a lazy person like me but its worth trying! Oh and I've been meaning to try and beat a Tower Tycoon for a while, I've never really gotten around to doing it. Finishing the game only using Plusle and Minun, that'd just be adorable. And finally, try to go through a game being completely underlevelled, since I grind too much. :[ (yeah I have a lot of goals XD)

Thanks! Hehe, yeah, I'm not a competitive battler, so I'm going for the in-game challenges. I have a few EV trained Pokemon, it's funny that I don't really use them so often though, I mostly go with my in-game team and other Pokemon I want to try out. I do spend a lot of time coming up with their move sets though, either depending on the opponents or just trying out strategies. Maybe IV breeding and/or EV training some more wouldn't be a bad idea at all, since things are starting to get difficult. I still haven't beaten the Battle Subway bosses - lost to Emmet in doubles, and right before Ingo in singles, my Cobalion got beat up by a Cursed Body Jellicent in the 20th battle, I think I've already told that story a few times. I still haven't started Black Tower, but I've reached at least Area 5 in the White Treehollow, but I haven't played my W2 in a while. So yeah, I'm definitely going to need stronger teams from now on.

Hi Narnia! I'm a fellow procrastinator too, hehe. But I think it's a good thing to set many goals for yourself, we just have to keep trying :) I've never Plusle and Minun before, but they are absolutely cute. And I like your last goal, I'm the exact opposite, I tend to rush in everywhere because I get bored of grinding, so it's definitely a challenge.

Just something like that.
I want to finish a game in each generation and defeat each and every trainer along the way and also the challenges (i've done this in leafgreen already and i shall do this to other games too), complete the Pokedexes (never completed it), and train all my Pokemon to be lvl 100 (i didnt even have one).

I'm playing White, yes. :-) I'm a decent way through, have 5 gym badges (about to get 6 tonight). I am new trainer who returned to Pokemon after 10 years of absence, but I feel am picking things up rather quickly. Smogon and the battle simulators have helped me a lot, along with a few individuals. But again, and can't stress this enough.. am truly just seeking to meet more Pokemon trainers whom want to discuss Pokemon, battle strategies and have a general good time.

Your Goals: I have many goals. First and foremost I want to finally learn how to build a competitive team. I never bothered to learn how to properly train Pokémon (I used to think just getting them to 100 was good enough.) Even though I don't know everything there is to know about EVs and IVs I'm still excited for the future. It's all very exciting. A forum member named MIAU has been teaching me little by little (Millions of thanks and hugs.). It's very exciting to be honest. It brings a much welcomed change to the game for me. :)

I'll write some more about what's actually happening in game soon!

Welcome to the club! How's your EV training going?

Anyway, I haven't been able to play much lately but I'd like to post an update on my goals. After a more few failed attempts at the Johto Leaders tournament, I realized that I somehow I missed the Hoenn tournament. My team: Golurk, Krookodile and Seismitoad, yup, a Ground-type team. We sailed through Brawly and Liza, and our final match was against Juan. Yup, a Water-type expert. And somehow, Golurk managed to beat his team all by himself. I couldn't believe it, his Quick Claw activated twice, and despite the type disadvantage, he proved to be victorious. It's worth noting that Golurk is the first Pokemon I've EV trained, and I think it showed this time.

I've decided to plan my teams better from now, but I want to take a break from the PWT for the moment before taking on the Johto Leaders again. So I'm going on a TM hunt all across the region, hoping to gather as many as I can. Do you guys have many (all?) TMs, and do you use them when you're training your team?

amerininja July 7th, 2013 6:17 PM

I have decided to do a couple of challenges in place of EV training as seen in my signature.

Squirrel July 12th, 2013 1:51 PM

What have people been training recently? How are goals going for everyone? :D

I've been working on a new project recently - my darling Buizel in Pearl! He's turning out to be quite a pain to train as his power is... certainly leaving room to be desired haha. He's not an exceptional Pokémon by any means and he's levelling up very slowly (caught at 8, now at 24 after two days) so I'm hoping he'll get a bit of a power boost when he evolves in 2 levels time into Floatzel. He's a Pokémon that I've always loved and I've always wanted to train one, so it'll be a shame if he turns out to be rubbish. :(

Has anyone else tried training one in the past? :o

amerininja July 13th, 2013 12:51 PM

I tried to train one awhile back and he did wind up in my Elite 4 team but only as a 6th slot. He really wasn't needed for my team I guess but Floatzel can hold his own.

Miau July 13th, 2013 12:56 PM

I haven't been able to play much, because we're doing overtime at work, so my free time has been reduced drastically. I'll start playing again after our deadline, which would be sometime at the end of the month, I think. So unfortunate that I'm unable to do any progress during this time though :(

Ozzy, I've never trained Buizel, and I've never played Pearl before. Is he part of your in-game team, or are you in post-game?

What kind of moves did you give him? How did you train him? Mine's reached 50 now and he's no real use still - he's even less useful than my level 35 Loppuny which is saying something haha. He's nice by default for having a Water type Pokémon, but my other team members have moves that do far more than his super effective STAB attacks so I'm struggling to find much of a niche for him at the moment!

Good luck when you get training again - make sure to update us! :D Floatzel is in my post-game team, but I'm using him against half the in-game trainers that I never bothered defeating. He's... just not shining at all, it's really hard to find any proper use for him bar a punching bag to swap out on haha.

Your Goals: My main goal right now is just simply training more Pokemon, since I've just been transferring over the same, Lv 100 Pokemon since Leafgreen. I'm training a Braviary, Aggron, Galvantula, Vanillish, Crawdaunt, and a Volcarona. All of them but Volcarona are somewhere in the 60's, with Volcarona in the 30's since it's a new catch. It's more or less an in-game team for stuff like the White Treehollow, since competitive play isn't really my thing. Although once in a blue moon I'll try out a random match-up to see how my team fares. Another goal I hope to accomplish is to just successfully EV train a Pokemon, which is difficult due to me being lazy. :p I'll get to it at some point, I guess.

@Ozzy

While I haven't exactly trained a Buizel in Pearl before, I have caught a Lv 46 Floatzel in White 2, and it became a permanent member of my team in my first play-through of W2. I lucked out with it already at Lv 46, and it being of an Adamant nature, so it got a physical Attack boost which made it a pretty strong physical attacker. FLoatzel is now Lv 74 with the moves Waterfall, Aqua Tail, Surf, and Ice Beam (To help deal with my teams gaping weakness to Dragon-types when I was at the E4.) Well, that's just my two cents.

Aslan July 18th, 2013 9:40 PM

Oh come to think of it, I remember using a Buizel once. It was amazingly fun to raise to be honest, I had one on my playthrough of Platinum. I remember training it around a lot and then soloing Wayward Cave with it (where it evolved into Floatzel). I never finished the whole game though with that team but it was still an incredibly useful team member and I'd like to use it again. I highly reccommend training it, it might be tricky in the beginning but all in all, it's worth it. Every single minute you've spent training it, in the end will make it one of the best Pokemon on any team. :]]

Miau July 25th, 2013 12:03 AM

I've been trading with Curtis lately, (almost) everyday. Noticed something: the Pokemon you get seems to be of the same gender of the Pokemon you trade away. Wish I'd have realized it sooner. On the up side, I think you can trade with him as many times as you want after you get the first batch of 10 (12?) Pokemon, so maybe I'll go and get a male and female of each Pokemon ^_^

In other news, I've been roaming Unova in search of all the Hidden Grottoes. Got Nidoran(M), Bibarel, Drifloon and a couple of Foongus. And the Medal for finding all the Hidden Grottoes, hehe.

Back on the PWT department, I'm still struggling with the Johto Leaders tournament. Kinda makes me want to start an HG/SS game.

I hope to regularly beat fire teams someday. Those teams just wreck me.

Welcome to the club! Completing the Pokedex sounds like a long and tough feat, how is that going? I've recently started venturing on the GTS, depositing exclusive swarm Pokemon, like Plusle and Sudowoodo. So far I managed to get Bellossom, Castform (transferred from Hoenn), Glameow, Silcoon and Nidoran(F).

I don't battle competitively, but I've heard that Grass types are at a disadvantage because of their weaknesses. I think it's really cool that you've been able to find ways to train your Grass team, I know people usually go with the strongest Pokemon, so good for you for sticking with them. It seems it's been working well too, congrats! Welcome to the club, and keep us updated on how it goes against those Fire teams!

Aslan July 26th, 2013 1:02 AM

Its cool all the goals people are setting for themselves! Anyway I haven't actually really started on any of my goals (procrastinator for life). I'm planning to start the underlevelled goal tonight, which is basically just to go through a Pokemon game without grinding. It'll make the game way harder and more enjoyable, since in pretty much every game, I tend to level grind and it just becomes boring after a while. But yeah I haven't actually decided on what game to do it on yet. Emerald? Yellow? I dunno, I'm open to suggestions so if anyone has any ideas, I'll hear them out. Right now I'm thinking Sapphire. :p

Miau July 26th, 2013 2:51 AM

Apart from Gen 5 games, I've only ever played Emerald. It was pretty much a blind nuzlocke, but I blacked out at Norman's gym. It got really boring with all the grinding to be honest, and I hated losing the Pokemon I liked the most, so maybe I'll restart it and try a normal run, or a different challenge.

So my vote goes to Emerald, but only because I've never played the other games, like I said. Sapphire would be pretty similar though, right?

Welcome to the club! Why 2 weeks though? And how are doing so far?

In other news, yesterday I EV trained my team of Terrakion, Zoroark and Sigilyph and took on the Johto Leaders tournament again. I thought we were goners on our last match, with Morty's Gengar putting to sleep both Sigilyph and Zoroark and then disposing of them. Terrakion was down to 2 HP, but in an unexpected turn of events, he managed to take out Morty's three Ghost types with Stone Edge. So with that, all Leaders Tournaments have been won, woo!

Afterwards I tried out the newly unlocked Rental Master, where I try to use Pokemon I've never used before. The most interesting I got was Vespiquen with Toxic/Protect/Heal Order. So fun to use it, even though I'd imagine it'd annoy your opponent if it were an online match. Craziest part, though, was being down to Vespiquen against a Venusaur with a couple of hit points left. Given its immunity to Toxic, I just had to stall it until it was out of PP and forced to Struggle. I was lucky that it had Earthquake and Roar, so I wasn't forced to use Protect that much. Given Vespiquen's Pressure, the battle went down in no time. Used my last Toxic on Hariyama, who was also nice enough to Belly Drum half its HP, and that was it. I'd definitely be training a Vespiquen at some point, for in-game battling only though.

Club ownership transferred to MIAU, enjoy <3

Quick update on the Floatzel - he's level 70 now and I'm somewhat happy with him! He's still not great by any means but he's doing some decent damage with his new moves and I've tried to streamline his EVs to make him a decent fighter. I hate having to do that for in-game Pokémon, but when needs must haha. I'm still not certain if he's doing well based simply on level or because of any trait unique to Floatzel, but all I can say is never again. ;)

Honestly I've always found the best way to learn CSS is to take a pre-made code and edit it yourself to see what happens. For example, use this basic code [cd="height: 100px; width: 100px; background-color: red; padding: 5px; border-size: 5px; border: solid; border-color: black;"]HI THIS IS TEXT[/cd] and it becomes:

HI THIS IS TEXT

Then try changing around some of the values. For example I'll change 'height: 100px' to 'height: 30px' and 'background-color: red' to 'background-colour: blue' to get this:

HI THIS IS TEXT

Or you can change the padding from 5px to 25 px to get this:

HI THIS IS TEXT

And then just try editing some numbers or fields until you start to see what different things do. Then once you've gotten the basics of editing CSS down, take a look at a thread like this to see other fields that you can add in, such as linking a background image for the CSS. And of course you've got a whole community here to help you if you get stuck so don't hesitate to ask if you need help understanding something. :)

I just swept a fire team using Jumpluff! I'm really excited and here's the battle:

I'm afraid that was just a fluke as that team didn't have Heatran or Ninetales.

Well congratulations Miau! If anyone here deserves it, it's you.

Well, that was fast, hehe! I love Acrobatics, and using it with a Flying Gem, tripling its power on the first use is a great bonus, even if you lose the item afterwards. And hey, I didn't know Jumpluff can learn Swords Dance, seems like it can do very well in battle and be a ball of cuteness at the same time.

And thank you too :)

Here's a question inspired by Ozzy's Floatzel actually, hehe. What do you do when the Pokemon you're training is not living up to your expectations? Do you give up on it, or try a different approach, e.g. EV training, new moves?

Also, don't forget to keep us posted on your adventures, guys! We'd love to hear how you're coming along with your goals!

I knew I'd get a headstart by getting Pokémon from my previous games, which actually seemed to work well. I'm basically done with the Pokédex, I just need 5 more!

Nolafus August 1st, 2013 3:34 PM

In my first play-through of Black 2, I realized that my Muk was beginning to be dead weight on the team and I dreaded bringing him out in battle because I knew it wouldn't work out. Instead of switching him out immediately, I took at look at him and realized that I had put nothing but special attacks on the physically attacking Muk. I switched out some attacks and Muk quickly became one of my most powerful pokemon, even sweeping Grimsley in the Elite Four.

In other words, I'd rather work things out rather than switch things out. Replacing pokemon is a last ditch effort for me.

And you've been really patient with your Floatzel, it's nice to see that patience is finally paying off. What made you stick to training, and even EV training him, though?

Basically I never like to give up on training something! If they suck then you just need to work harder to bring out their best - it's no fun if you only train things that're strong by default. I tend to prefer training these 'weaker' Pokémon like Floatzel, Pachirisu, Sandslash, etc, because it makes the game a lot more challenging and you don't just breeze through it like normal. It also helps you to really get to know the Pokémon by seeing what works well with them and which of their skills are worth building on and which should be left in the dust a little. I feel like you grow a lot more attached to these weaker Pokémon when you spend ages struggling with them and then finally find their niche, so I make sure to always use at least a couple in my times. What about you guys?

Welcome to the club! Ralts is very cute, I trained one once and evolved him into Gallade, but I like its entire evo line. And I've heard of Moemon before, they're adorable :)

I trained a Carracosta last year in my first White run, and I also made the same mistake and taught him special moves, like Surf, Scald, Ice Beam. Quite the unlucky Pokemon actually, my poor Carracosta, I recently checked his IV spread: 00/03/05/07/00/01, and he also has a nature that lowers Defense. His only blessing is his Sturdy ability, that guarantees him one attack, so I rarely sent him into battle, and kept him on my team as my Surfer. It didn't feel right though, so I started thinking how to improve his skills, and I worked on his move set, discovered Aqua Jet, which guarantees him two moves now and I replaced Surf with Waterfall. I change his other moves depending on the opponent, and he's now quite the fierce battler and...

... I transferred him to my B2 game, and I've been playing around in the PWT and Battle Subway. He's really fun to use in battle now, I like to give him gimmicky items, like Bright Powder or Quick Claw, and wait for him randomly evading moves or going first. So yeah, I think all the time spent working with him and how much fun he is now compared to back then definitely make him one of my most favorite Pokemon now :)

Welcome to the club, nice meeting you too :)

I'll admit I usually evolve my Pokemon as soon as I can, so keeping an NFE sounds like a challenge, maybe I'll do that at some point and train the world's strongest Pikachu, like a certain ageless boy we all know and love.

Today I played a bit on the bus, on one of the rare occasions I take my 3DS out, and explored Twist Mountain in the winter. Caught Cubchoo (Rt 7), a couple of Beartic, Durant and Cryogonal. The veterans there were pretty tough too, since I didn't have my main team with me, so my Pokemon got a good training session as well!

The only Pokemon in my team that aren't fully evolved are my Gastly and Haunter, that's only because these are among my favorite Pokemon. For the most part fully evolved Pokemon are more cool than their younger counterparts anyway haha.

Nolafus August 4th, 2013 6:41 PM

Haunter can be really tough depending on how you use it. In the NU tier it's one of the deadliest ghost types around and checks a lot of other pokemon that would otherwise sweep teams.

The story of struggle and triumph is what Cradily is all about for me. I started using it on my grass team and I had no idea how to use it. I liked its defenses and tried a lead set meant to set up entry hazards, but it never quite worked out. I was just about to switch him out when I tried one last set. I fully invested in Cradily's special defense and gave it the move curse to add to its defense and attack. Little did I know that I would get countless sweeps and rage-quits from a pokemon that I never see used by anyone. In all the battles I've been in I've seen two other Cradily, neither one using the sweeper set I came up with. Unfortunately it was always a question if I could get Cradily set-up between physical fighting moves before I could set up curses, or focus blasts. Eventually I had to switch it out, but I made room for it on my NU team where it still commonly sweeps to this day. I'm proud that I made up a set that actually does well and Cradily now makes it in the top ten of my favorite pokemon.

That post was a little longer than what I wanted it to be, but oh well.

So you're a grass trainer! I'm a fan of grass-type trainers because they are formidable foes, not to mention the ones I battled were really nice :P. The grass-type is tricky.

Have you always liked the grass-type? Why have you chosen it? I'm a Normal & Ghost-type trainer myself.

Nolafus August 6th, 2013 12:03 PM

I'm guessing, since I'm not 100% sure, that grass is my favorite type because Serperior was my first pokemon. The nostalgia value went over into the typing and grass became my favorite. That, or I like the challenge of using the type with the most weaknesses.

I find that most grass trainers that I meet only started with grass types because they wanted to be gym leaders on online leagues and that was the only type open. I used to be a gym leader on one of those leagues, but that's a long story.

I normally do very well against normal teams and I suck against ghost teams. Those other STABs like Gengar, Chandelure, and Froslass get me just about every time. I've won three tournaments so far, so I'm managing the weaknesses fairly well.

How have you done so far, any notable battles?

I haven't battled online for a long time. For a couple years I was volunteering in California that took up all my time. But I have had many tough battles in the past. I used to be a Water-Type trainer a few years ago but now my taste has changed to the Ghost and Normal types. I am currently preparing my team for online battles.

I hope to battle you one of these days! Do you have online battles often?

Nolafus August 6th, 2013 1:11 PM

Only on simulators as I don't have reliable internet (think of a cell phone data package without the unlimited data option since I live out in the country) so I can't do wi-fi battles. I'm currently working on replicating my grass team on my DS though.

Welcome to the club! How is it going? I'm pretty similar actually, except I'm working on my Unova dex in B2, I'm still trying to convince my boyfriend to give Pokemon a try, and I'm thinking on getting Pokemon X, though I may change my mind if you get to know other version differences before the games com out.

All this talk about monotype teams makes me want to finally give it a try at the type experts tournament at the PWT, and the challenge medals for defeating the E4 with monotype teams. It's gonna be a lot of fun to chose and train my teams, because I've always been careful not to have duplicate types on my team, though somehow I always end up with a couple of Water types in my party. Maybe I should start with a Water team then, hehe.

Water is one of the most commonly used types and is often referred to as the best type. It can cover its weaknesses very well while still maintaining great type coverage. It's a great type with a lot of different options.

Quite a boring type too, don't you think? ;o I dislike the sheer amount of Water-type Pokémon, it makes them feel so common and boring haha. (Ignore the Floatzel posts!) I love a lot of the Water Pokémon and I like the type on the whole, but I see something rarer like Poison or Steel as a lot more fun to use on a team. You really have to think hard about getting them to blend in and it's a much better test of your training skills. What do you guys think?

That's why I like the grass type! Poison and electric are probably the only other types I don't see often. Steel is pretty common because all those resistances really attract people and secondary typings means there's a counter for each weakness.

Interesting, this is something I've never even considered haha - what's your plan for this? How would you actually go about training a Ditto? You'd always be one turn behind in the battles and whilst using the same stats/moves as them (but probably with less HP?), I can't imagine it'd be an easy one to train in any sense. I'd love to hear what you do to level it up because it's one that I've always wanted to use but I've just never had the dedication haha. Let us know how it works out for you!

Ahah, that Miltank is the bane of most trainers. What Pokémon are you training to use against it?

Name August 8th, 2013 6:56 AM

I'm currently training my Totodile and Whismur.
Hanging out on route 30 a lot, looking for another whismur because the one I caught really doesn't suit me.
I'll try to find her a good home, leaving them in the boxes really doesn't seem nice to me.
There are also supposed to be some Ralts here too, but I have yet to see even 1. . .
Toto may not be the cutest, but she has a lot of personality...
and with a face like Whismur's how can your heart not melt?

Im Start Pokemon Emerald Noow For My Ultimate Monotype Challenge I Chose Torchic Now Training It

Miau August 8th, 2013 10:31 AM

Yay, new members and so many posts ♥

First things first. Welcome to HeyLoro, Rozu and Heretostay! Hope you enjoy the club and have fun, we're always eager to hear how you're doing with your goals ^_^

I love Water types, and somehow the fact that there are just so many Water Pokemon is making it even harder for me to put a team together. There are so just too many options! I've never made a monotype team before, that's why I chose the Water type, but it seems like it's actually turning against me, hehe! I have used a few Water Pokemon on my teams before, so half of my team will have some of them, since they're already level trained, and the other half will be new Pokemon. I guess the amount of them may be overwhelming, but somehow each of them still has its individuality. I've grown quite attached my Water Pokemon, Wailord included, even if I've never trained him for battling, he's always in my post-game team for HM purposes.

Ditto is one of those gimmick Pokemon that I've never considered using in battle, I don't even know how he works in battle, so I'm really curious about your strategy too!

Good luck with your Fire team! I never realized how popular monotype teams were, hehe.

Name August 8th, 2013 10:36 AM

There is anticipation of there being plot changes, but as it stands right now Moemon is just an adorabler version of Pokemon. (check my sig for the link)

While out training my whismur got poisoned, as soon as the battle finished I RAN to the nearest Pokemon center, which happened to be in Cherrygrove and she fainted ONE STEP from Nurse Joy!
I felt so bad.

<Challenger> August 8th, 2013 11:28 AM

I myself have never done the challenges. I've always played through with whatever pokemon I felt like using, and pure grinding. If I WERE to use a monotype team, however, it would probably be a poison team.

I've recently restarted every single one of my games, from my original Red to my Black. I've also restarted my SS, Emerald, Platinum, Diamond, and Pearl, and my LeafGreen, not to mention my Yellow. My current goal is to beat them ALL. So far I've only beaten Black and SS. I'm at the Victory Road in Diamond, in Pearl I just started, Emerald I'm currently working on the seventh gym, in Platinum I'm making my way to Snowpoint, and in LeafGreen I'm working on the fifth/fourth gym. In Yellow I'm stuck on Brock (Freaking Pikachu!) and in Red I just restarted.

Miau August 8th, 2013 12:29 PM

You have so many games! How do you chose the Pokemon you use between so many games? Do you try to use as many as you can? Do you have any favorites that you just have to have on your team? Questions are up for anyone who feels like answering too :)

Nolafus August 8th, 2013 12:42 PM

I usually choose whatever pokemon appeals to me at the time. Although, during replays that aren't challenges I have to force myself not to use the same pokemon as before. One thing is that I have to use the grass type starter if I can. I just can't see myself using any other type.

I've been a collector over the years. Haha. But I usually base my teams on the following template. I never use the same team twice with the exception of starters.
Starter:
Surfer:
Flyer:
Attack Extra:
Defense Extra:
Speed Extra:

I use as few as possible, and usually have only two pokemon by the time I arrive at the third gym in most games. I only have four in my Platinum right now. I usually don't have a full party until I reach the seventh or eighth gym. Sometimes the Pokemon League. My personal favorite pokemon that I like to have on most of my teams is Snorlax. He's my rock. In terms of starters, Kanto I normally choose Charizard, but I've gone with Venusaur in my latest playthrough. In Johto I always use Feraligator, in Hoenn Sceptile, and sometimes Swampert, in Platinum, Diamond, and Pearl I always chcoose Empoleon. In Unova I chose Samurott, but I was very disappointed with the Unova region.

EDIT: I'm very picky about my team. I beat SS all the way through a total of four times before I was finally happy with my final team.

This is pretty much the way I play, bar the starter bit. I choose what to use as I play the game, catching and training anything that looks interesting, but I always try not to re-use anything just for the sake of avoiding repetition. I love using certain Pokémon in every team (ie Sandslash <3) but for the most part I aim to use completely different members each time to get some diversity going. As for starters, I usually end up abandoning them because they're all very samey too, but I occasionally choose to use them if they take my fancy at the time haha. Usually the cuties like Cyndaquil :D

Your format is interesting and certainly sounds like you'll get some good teams from it, but doesn't it get kind of... samey and repetitive? I'd never be able to stick to a format like this, I'd get too bored of always having the same basic things haha.

Ditto can be very annoying in competitive play. You get a pokemon all stacked with your boosting move of choice and along comes Ditto (with it's dreamworld ability) to not only copy your pokemon, but copy all of the stat boosts as well. Ditto is one of the only reasons I won't throw out Breloom against a mono-normal team. I can't risk the opponent getting that kind of power. If the unthinkable happens and Breloom falls to the opponent's ditto (now Breloom), Tangrowth is there to absorb every blow.

By... rockin' it day and night! After all, A Little Poison on The Stage, A Little Poison in Your Days. :P

But when I'm older... I wanna become a Ranger! ^^ I know you thought I couldn't get any weirder, but I just did. So EAT IT! >:D

Now Im Starting Emerald For Trainer Type Ultimate Challenge

I Think Emerald Completr With In 5Hrs

Nolafus August 9th, 2013 2:13 AM

Nice job Musaddiq! Thanks for keeping us posted and good luck!

Gym Leader Rozu, you're name sounds a little familiar. I can't quite put my finger on it. Do you participate in monotype tournaments on showdown? If you do then I think I might have battled you before.

It's okay that you're weird, heck, we all are. Besides, you have to be a little crazy to survive.

Aslan August 9th, 2013 2:35 AM

Woo update time! If you're expecting me to have done loads, then you're wrong. I've done basically nothing. Almost done with Black 2 though, I beat Marlon the other day and am currently looking for Route 21. I have no idea where that is though, go me. Have a rather overleveled and underleveled team at the same time, I don't even know how that happens.

Good luck with the challenge Mussadiq! Completing Emerald in five hours sounds impossible to be honest. Unless you solo with... I don't even know what you'd solo with. But sounds fun whatever you're doing. :)

There's no doubt that Ditto can be a good team member (well okay, quite a lot of doubt on my end but still!), but how on earth would you train one? That's a mystery to me haha. I'd love to hear how you intend to go about training your Ditto or even how anyone here has managed to train one, because that's an impossible feat in my eyes. You're just using the same Pokémon as them but a turn later... and you have to beat several of them to level him up - how are you getting around this issue?

Also you need to get to work Sophie, those Pokémon won't train themselves ;)

And why don't you tell us some more about how you've been training your Pokémon and how you've been finding them to use, Musaddiq? :)

HeyLoro August 9th, 2013 6:25 AM

SoulSilver
I started off the day by beating my rival. His Pokemon didn't give me too much trouble, and afterwards I went off to Goldenrod City.
After arriving there I got my Radio Card and got Whitney to head back to her gym. I went to go check out the Pokemon in the area before going to the gym, when I was challenged by some trainers.
I was surprised when my Hoppip evolved into Skipbloom after a battle. When I spoke to the Pokemon, she nudged me, and I nudged her back. So. so. CUTE.
After that, I decided to head to the gym. I beat most of the trainers with the help of both Quilava and Skipbloom. I know that taking on Whitney will be hard, so I plan to train some more before taking her on...

Same here, my team gets put together as I play, and I don't reuse Pokemon on different runs. I try not to duplicate types, and more importantly have a diverse team when it comes stats, so I can have a both physical and special attackers, fast Pokemon and bulky Pokemon, you get the gist. As for their roles, I always have a Surfer, but I can live without a Flyer and other HM users before I beat the game. I change my lead Pokemon often, I don't like to solo my runs, so I try to keep my team at an even level. And when it comes to starters, I haven't used the same starter in different games yet, so I've used Snivy, Oshawott and Tepig, in this order. The first two made it in my final teams, as a Serperior and Samurott, but I stopped using Tepig after he evolved into Pignite, I just didn't like him that much and I wanted to use other Pokemon as well.

Well, the weekend's here! Finally {XD} I don't have much time to play during workdays, so if you're anything like me, maybe now's the time to venture on to Rt 21? I know I'll try to get some training done :)

Congrats, it seems like you are cruising through those games! From a quick glance at your teams, it looks like you like to focus more on your starter than the rest of the team. How come?

Your teams are very diverse, I like that! Did you have any pleasant surprises while training, any Pokemon that exceeded your expectations and fared better than you thought it would? You don't have to use him if you don't wanna, but I'll suggest Meowth/Persian for your LG I'm on the cats teamis it too obvious

Dark Shadow 6 August 9th, 2013 9:13 AM

Thanks And Yeh I Force Starter Then Tha Team

First I Beat Gym Leader By My Starter And Then I Train Other Pokemons It's Very Hard To Train Other Pokemons

I Beat E4 And Champion In Gold With My Typhlosion I Use Other Pokemons For Hms And If My Typhlosion Has Been Defeted Then I Use Other Pokemon And Then I Use Rivew To Get Back My Typhlosion
