"The Bug type (Japanese: むしタイプ Bug type) is one of the eighteen types. Notable Trainers that specialize in Bug-type Pokémon are Bugsy of Azalea Town, Aaron of the Sinnoh Elite Four, Burgh of Castelia City, and Viola of Santalune City. Prior to changes in Generation IV all Bug-type moves were physical, but they may now also be special depending on the attack."

Are you the next Bug-Type Pokémon specialist waiting to be discovered? Then why don't you come join us for PokeCommunity's GSC/HGSS Bug Catching Contest? All you'll have to do is to catch the best Bug-type Pokémon. Big or small, any Pokémon, any capture, can rule them all! So come join us, you'll definitely be in for a buzz of a time!

You're more than welcome to train your Pokemon.

Ooh, in that case, I need to do some training with Scyther!

Sydian July 5th, 2013 5:17 PM

You can train, but levels aren't really a big deal with the Pokemon and isn't part of scoring. Movesets, however, are.

Anyway, we've received some messages about concerns of legitimacy of Pokemon, so for HGSS entries, we will require that you show us a legality analysis from Pokecheck.org. Look up the site, and instructions on how to send your Pokemon to it are provided there. If you have questions about it, please do not clutter the thread with them. You can simply message me about it. To show us the legality analysis, you should provide us a screenshot of it, or a link to the Pokemon's page where we can check it ourselves. Sorry for the inconvenience, but we do want this to be a fair contest, and while we figured we'd just base this on trusting you guys to enter responsibly, we understand the concerns of members and will now make this a requirement.

Orig. capture data:

GSC Y U NO HAS SHINY RNG ABOOS?!

SockPuppet's Swagger may not be as reliable as it looks, but it may grant enough time to get that Toxic working it's magic! (and even end up killing the enemy faster, with him hitting himself and all) But as a trainer, one should understand that they should still be extremely careful with the use of Swagger, as an opponent could end up sweeping your team with their physical STABS instead! Yikes!

Sydian July 5th, 2013 10:10 PM

It's been brought to my attention that players on DS emulators will need a way to check legality, so what you'll need to do if you're playing HGSS on an emulator is use PokeGen to upload your file. I know nothing about PokeGen unfortunately, so you'll have to figure things out for yourself if you're playing on an emulator I'm afraid. If you can't figure it out for the HGSS entry buy a real copy just enter the GSC portion since there is no legality check available.

This is my entry.

PnutButter/Butterfree(female)
Psybeam, Sleep Powder, Nightmare, Attract

Here's a photo:

Ignoring for a moment that this is a contest, this Butterfree was a riot to train. XD The combination of status ailments made it so pretty much nothing could ever land a hit on me, and when even my main attacking move can cause a status ailment, it led to really funny moments where I'd confuse a foe with confusion, have the foe be fast asleep, have it get hurt by the nightmare, then just drop dead. XD I can understand why Koga likes these kind of tactics. :3

EDIT: Again, this has nothing to do with the contest, but I wanted to share it anyways since it was cool, and Butterfree's one of my favourite Pokemon so I'm excited that I've found a whole new way to use it. XD

I beat up Chuck with Butterfree no problem, but the hard battle was Jasmine who had Thunderbolt and Rock Throw. Luckily for me Jasmine's Steelix is male for some reason, so I was able to work my cheap status ailment magic to miraculously beat Jasmine with only Butterfree. XD Sadly I couldn't really show that I only had Butterfree with me at that point, so you'll just have to take my word for it. :S The damage done to Butterfree was all from one Rock Throw from Steelix. Jasmine even got to use her Hyper Potion on it, but the combo of Attract, Sleep Powder, Nightmare and Psybeam's lucky activation of confusion made it essentially impossible for Steelix to ever land a hit. XD The only chance it got was when he woke up the first time before I could use both nightmare and attract on it.

Sorry for the tangent, I'm just happy to find a whole new way to play as Butterfree. A shame Butterfree can't learn Nightmare in later games as it'd be deliciously broken what with Compoundeyes making Sleep Powder 100% accurate. XD

Beedrill ♂✰
Level 37
no. 015
OT: Sakura ID: 60648
- Sludge Bomb
- Twineedle
- Return
- Toxic

This is my first shiny Pokemon, caught in Crystal Version. This shiny Beedrill is well over 10 years old, but I treasure the moment I caught him; it's one of my fondest Pokemon memories. In Ilex Forest, I was using Headbutt on trees near the exit when a shiny Weedle appeared. I loved the shiny animation in GSC, so immediately I knew this encounter was something rare and special. I quickly evolved my shiny Weedle by taking him around Mt. Silver. I didn't nickname him at the time, but if I would today, I would nickname him Kryptonite. It's a great song by 3 Doors Down and my Beedrill is green. He means a lot to me since he is the reason I started shiny hunting in the 3rd and 4th generations. My passion later developed into RNG abusing shiny Pokemon. You know where that got me today - I'm everywhere on Pokemon forums.

I didn't want to turn on my Crystal version to check because I assumed the battery died. I often talk about this in posts whenever it comes up in Pokemon discussions. Gold and Silver have died. I'll just be ignorant, never check Crystal, pretend it never died! My childhood has to live on...! Crystal was my favorite game because I could play as a female. I spent 160 hours playing my Crystal and I caught 250 species - Celebi being unattainable.

I'm really happy this contest gave me the courage to power on my Crystal to share with you one of my favorite bug type Pokemon and one of my favorite shiny Pokemon.

I was going for a shiny Butterfree or Beedrill, myself, so lucky :)

I know judging is supposed to start today, but this is still part of GT. Can I still put up my entry? I have one caught I just have been waiting til I caught a certain mon so I can remove a certain move from the mon. Please tell me I can still post an entry.

EDIT: lmao, you guys accidentally put June instead of July on some of the dates. XD

I'd like to know as well, I don't know if it's worth my time to try and improve my entry today, or if the entry period has already gone.

Brendino July 8th, 2013 12:28 AM

If you give it enough effort, it's actually pretty easy to find Pokemon with high IVs in HG/SS's Bug-Catching Contest, provided you know what you're looking for. Beyond that, I don't know much about what makes for a good nature/moveset of most Pokemon, but it seemed to do pretty good for itself in the little time I had training it. (hopefully this isn't too late, as it doesn't look like judging's started yet).

Umm so I caught this guy a while ago on SoulSilver, but seeing as I can't connect to the internt in 4th gen, no PokéCheck for me. I can tell you its IVs are no where near perfect though.

Not only were they both shiny Beedrill, both our trainers are named Sakura lol.

I don't mind extending it til tomorrow, if Nathan is alright with it. And I told him to change June to July lol. Guess that didn't happen.

I don't think he'll mind, so yeah, I'll allow entries up till tomorrow night, 11:59 Central. Get entering. I don't see why we just start making GT in general 5 days instead of 3, but oh well, that'll be a suggestion I bring up in the next GT planning.

I caught this sucker as part of my Bug Monotype on my German Soul Silver. It won me the Bug Catching Contest, which never happens to me, with a score of 359 points. I chose its move set with a limited availability, as I only have 3 badges, but chose it to rely on the technician ability, making the move Rock Smash much more viable. Wing Attack, with Technician and STAB, become an effectively massive 145 power!

Sydian July 9th, 2013 9:29 PM

Submissions past this point will not be accepted, as well as changes to current entries. Thanks for entering! Results will be posted as soon as we can get them done. :)

Necrum July 11th, 2013 8:54 AM

So as to avoid editing my post, I just wanted to post that my math was wrong, Wing Attack is not a 145 power, it's a 135 power.

minime010 July 11th, 2013 10:10 AM

I wish we could have these normally, not just for events. It seems so cool!
