Matthias Winston - Entrance Hall It was a nice, warm summer day with only a couple of clouds trailing lazily across the bright-blue sky above the large school. Matthias stepped out of his parents’ car and looked up at the bright sky, not regretting having packed his jacket and decided to wear a dark-blue T-shirt (The same colour as his hair, incidentally), and a short-sleeved, blue, white and black-plaid, button-up shirt on top of it, which wasn’t currently buttoned up. He looked away from the sky, down to the school itself which looked… weird. Not as much in its appearance as in the feeling it gave Matthias . He’d hardly ever been outside of his house, and even then, not even outside of his garden after he and his parents found out about his abilities, and yet here he was, stepping out into the world. He felt a tinge of worry, which was quickly brushed away by excitement and a sense of adventure, a smile spreading on his lips. “Hey, don’t start daydreaming already, we’ve only just gotten here!”* (*Disclaimer: Matthias and his parents are Danish, this is translated for the reader’s sake, you’re welcome!) He looked off to his right, where his father had just pulled his suitcase out of the trunk and was standing next to him, giving him a grin. He was a bearded guy who was tall and –slightly- bulky, but not really thug-looking. His mother was standing besides him and looked like the typical house-mom with shoulder-length, slightly curly, red hair, a soft, albeit slightly worried smile on her lips. Matthias rolled his eyes softly, giving the pack over his shoulder a little tug as he turned to them. “Don’t worry about it dad, I was just… taking in the sights.” His father raised his brows and looked over at the various other students that had started arriving at the gates, sending his son a toothy little grin. “Taking in ‘the sights’, eh? Well, I’m sure you can find something lovely to look at here.” His mother smacked his father over the shoulder with the back of her hand. “Dan! Shush, you can’t say things like that! Especially not when they’re this close! They might hear you!” His father chuckled and rolled his eyes, giving Matthias another grin, Matthias rolling his eyes as well, though more at the show the two of them were putting on. “Thanks dad, but that’s not really why I’m here.” His father shrugged his shoulders and just smiled knowingly, his mother giving the man a playfully upgiving little stare before shaking her head, looking down at Matthias . “Do you want us to go inside with you, or…?” Just then, the attention was called to the woman standing at the gate, smiling at all the arrivals. During her little speech, Matthias glanced to the other new arrivals, taking in the different shapes and sizes of them, though seeming more curious than studying. As the small woman walked into the school, Matthias turned to his parents again, shaking his head with a warm smile. “Nah, I’ll be fine. Thanks for… well, taking the time to get me all the way over here.” His father shook his head and patted his shoulder, smiling warmly down at his son. “It’s the least we could do for you. Gotta grow up sometime, right? Remember, you can call us anytime, and your mother’s packed a couple numbers for places around here you could call if stuff happens. Oh, and, erh…” He fumbled with something in his pocket before pulling out a small bundle of bills, Matthias ’ brows raising as they were given to him. “Thirty pounds. It’s not a lot, but if you ever get a chance to spend them… there you go. And remember to do your excercises.” Matthias nodded and tucked the money into the pocket of his jeans. “Thanks, both of you. You’re awesome. I’ll give you a call once a week, alright?” His parents both leaned down and gave him a hug, his father also giving his shoulder a light punch, which Matthias returned with a grin, and the two of them soon drove off while he waved at them. He took a deep breath and picked up the suitcase, turning towards the school where some of the other students were moving into, and soon, he was standing in the rather grand-looking entrance hall. After a moment of looking around, he turned to the desk and stepped over, picking up one of the gift bags, shuffling off to the side and opening said bag, fishing through the contents. He pulled out the schedule and looked it over, his brows furrowing and his head tilting slightly in confusion as he mouthed out the words “Elements 101…?” Despite him coming from a different country, where English wasn’t the first language, he still had a more or less flawless grasp of the language. He shrugged and packed it away again, tugging the gift bag into his backpack, looking over the rest of the students entering and looking around. “Hmh… I suppose I better go drop this stuff off at my new room. Hey, maybe I’ll even have a room mate.” The thought of this made him grin excitedly and he pulled out the map overlooking the area, which he had pulled out of the bag a moment ago. He picked up his suitcase and started stepping down the hall to the left of the entrance while he glanced around himself, taking in the sights and thinking up a million different questions at once. |
Riley Dauth Yep, there's the school. Just as he thought it would look like. Riley stared from out of the window of the leased Cadillac, a 1994 deVille series. The rattling car made its loud entrance when it pulled up in front of the Gilded Halls. The entire interior tremored from the noise, but the noise drowned out after they had to listen to it going for hours. The sunlight rayed through the windows, and it was hot. The airco was on, and blowing fresh wind in their faces. His father turned the keys out of the ignition, and stifled the loud noises. There were one or two seconds of silence, purer silence than the kinds when they were still driving. Of course, there was still the noises of all the other students arriving and vocalising outside. Riley cocked his head back to his dad who had turned from his seat to face Riley with a proud smile mounted on his 5 o' clock shaded face. His hair was thinning out and receding from his forehead to his crown, but it still looked pitch black to Riley. “We're here,” he said. His mum sat next to his dad, picking the grime out of her finger nails. The tall Australian-born woman had her light hair tied in a bun and sunglasses perched up her pulled back hair, and forced a smile, but mothers being mothers, Riley knew she was worried about leaving her son at a boarding school across the pond. Riley understood his mother's concerns, really. He knew she was just feeling the same kind of anxiousness he felt, and the consequences of Riley discovering his specialities were traceable on the stress lines of his mother's face. He kind of felt guilty for causing her that much worry, but she assured him that she got by with the years. He just was who he was, and she sure as hell was a better parent that way than his dad: not the one behind the wheel, the other guy, whom he shared half of his genes with. He undid the seatbelt and opened the car door. His father walked around the light brown cadillac, jumbling the keys in his hand and aiming it at the boot. It beeped and the door hatched up for him. Riley followed him around. His mind was distracted by the blue summer sky that reflected to earth like an ocean with a few foamheads drifting by and breaking against the horizon. “Here you go,” his father lifted the silver-coloured trolley case out of the boot and put the wheel end on the pavement. He pulled on the telescopic handle and tilted it Riley's way. Riley took it in his hand and watched his mother get out of her seat to his left. She had a summery look to her in her light blue loose-fitting sundress. “Oh, good, you have your luggage. You packed enough clothes right? And your books and everything?” She paced over to her son and held a hand over his shoulder. “Yeah, got all of it.” Riley stared at the campus again. Beyond the brick and fence gate he saw the entrance of the main building. Behind the marble white pillars that stood proudly like validation stamps for the school's prestige, were the titanic main doors. Students herded towards it, like sheep that were led into their pens. “I guess this is it, then,” Riley mumbled. His mother pulled him into a quick embrace. She was quite the same height as Riley, as opposed to his dad who sprouted up at like 6' something. He too wrapped his arms into the hug, even though group hugs at summer temperature are stifling to say the least. They let go momentarily. Riley straightened his plaid shirt, and rubbed his thumb and index finger on his throat when he felt the lump welling up in there. He'd have gotten misty eyed by now if he didn't want to put up a strong façade for his mum. “You can call us anytime you need, remember? And don't forget to keep check of the time when you're practicing,” mum advised him. His lips curled into a tiny smile, and he gave an affirmatory nod. “No worries,” he said. “No worries,” mum echoed. Riley gave a courteous nod and turned to his dad. The two guys chuckled and fistbumped. “You're gonna do well. Remember to take your time to go outside sometime, alright? Make sure you can enjoy being here,” dad smiled. Of course, he didn't have cash for nothing. Riley knew the school had plenty of recreational facilities as well, but maybe he could view a movie at the local theatre as well. They exchanged their goodbyes, before his parents walked back to the car. The engine rattled alive again, and they waved each other off. Riley, one hand on the handle, turned to keep waving for as long as he could. Eventually, the car took a turn, and disappeared behind the block, only the rattling hinting at its distance now. He let out a nasal sigh and rolled his wheeled trolley case with him. In the entrance stood a small woman, who welcomed the horde of students to the Gilded Halls. Huh, Riley missed her explanation he guessed. She said something about the headmaster not being there, and beckoned the mass to follow her. It'd all become clear to him, he guessed, if he just did what everyone else did. He stared at his feet. His black and grubby trainers looked yobbish compared to the pristine white tiled floors of the entrance hall. His neck turned from the floor to the ceiling and he wowed at the size of the place. However, he wasn't here to be a gawking country boy tourist. When he looked down again, he saw that most of the students queued up before the reception desk. He rolled over the close with the tail-end of the queue and patiently waited his turn. When it was his turn, he stepped forward and rested his fingers on the polished maplewood desk. The receptionist turned her eyes at him, and glew with politeness. “May I have your name?” she asked. “Riley Dauth,” he replied. She nodded and looked down at her paper. And stroked a check on her list. “You can pick up your gift bag over there,” she gestured towards the side. Riley thanked her and he moved out of the way for the next student to take the turn. He picked up his bag walked to a quiet side of the hall with it. He opened it and examined its contents. There was a map inside, a card key, which he assumed was for his room, a time table, and some bathroom items. Well, he already packed for those, but a spare can't hurt. He pondered whether he should try to talk with some of the other students and swatted the thought away as quickly as it welled up. No use. Everybody's eagre to check out their rooms now, and so was he, to be honest. He peeked at the map and his key card. He had room number 2, valiant house, which was just a stroll straight down the left-hand hallway, then outside, and follow the path to the big building next to the main one. Simple enough. He put the map back into his bag and pocketed his card key, firmed his bag back up, and walked with it in his free hand. He might as well unpack first, maybe meet his neighbours, or otherwise find people to interact with during class. Maybe they were nice people, after all, everyone around this school was alike in the fact they had something special. He'd have to get used to not hiding his powers like the ark of the covenant anymore. |
Evan Kyong – Somewhere around the Front Gate
Evan steps out of the black Phantom. He looks up. Hardly a cloud in the sky. A gentle breeze rolls by. A perfect day. His chauffeur exits the vehicle and opens the trunk. Two thuds. The Rolls-Royce quietly pulls away. He is alone. It’s Evan’s way of doing things, getting dropped off before wherever he has to be so he can spend more time in the sun. |
Alecia rubbed some sleep out of her eyes. Ten hours she had been waiting. Ten. Long. Hours. Had she been forgotten about? It was entirely possible. She tended to avoid everyone and shy away from contact, usually mumbling some excuse and skirting away as soon as possible. And there was so much going on in this air port that it was entirely possible she got left behind. Then she was approached by a cute flight attendent with a friendly smile.
"Ms. Bernard, right this way please. Your seat is ready." the lady said. Alecia gave her a blank look, brushing her hair off of her neck and nodding. She got to her feet and stretched out, but the lady took her hand and positively pulled her towards the very long line, heading directly for the front of it. She didn't question it as she was guided onto the plane, and let herself be seated in a very comfortable seat. She was treated luxuriously and served very fine food, but the plane ride was very long and she ended up sleeping most of the way there. When she woke up the plane had landed and she was very quickly escorted to a private car and taken to an expensive hotel. After a few days there she was on her own, ordering room service and staying in her suite, despite the fun facilities. Her head was still spinning at how fast this was going on as she was once again ushered into a private vehicle, and taken to the school. She sat through the conversation and picked up her bag. "Um..." she mumbled at the lady who gave her the gift bag, looking a bit shy. She looked down at the ground and her eyes closed "You're in room 4. Head to your dorm, that's all for today. Class Schedule is in that bag, and welcome to the Gilded Halls." was what she was told. She nodded slowly and turned, holding the bag close to her. Her belongings had presumably been placed in her room already, so she should do as told and head that way now. Room Four... She fell into step behind some other students and followed them toward the dorms. |
Kevin Blake - Around The Entrance Kevin sat with his head bowed down in the back seat of his father’s car fast asleep. They car soon slowed to a halt outside the gates of the school and Kevin was awoken by a slight tap on the knee. He lazily opened his eyes and rubbed his forehead. They had just come all the way from Ireland in his father’s 1999 Subaru Impreza. That car was his pride and joy and he refused to drive anywhere in anything different. His father turned the key in the ignition and the rumble of the engine cut out and they were left with the chatter and noise of fellow arrivals to the school. His father was the first to jump out of the car followed by Kevin and then his mother. His father was an average built man with black hair and a tightly shaved stubble, his mother had shoulder length red hair and a slim figure. His father popped the trunk, reached in and grabbed the bags that contained the clothes and essentials that Kevin required. His father placed the bags down at Kevin’s feet and smiled. “Look son, we don’t know what this ability thing you have is and we’re not sure if we want to know. We thought about what we did, the way we distanced ourselves from you and we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts that we’re sorry. No matter if you have a strange gift or not, you’ll always be our son.” “Thanks mum, thanks dad!” Kevin spoke happily as his eyes light up. His parents grew distant from him after they found out about his ability. Kevin felt like they didn’t want him, that he was some kind of outcast. It meant the world to him to know that they still loved him. Just then a woman gave a speech welcoming the students to Gilded Halls. Kevin along with many other students stood outside listening to the woman preform the speech. "Give your name to reception and then, I'm afraid, your parents will have to leave." With this Kevin looked over at his parents and noticed his mother well up with tears. His father put his arm around her in reassurance as the listened to the final bit of the speech. After she was done the woman turned and walked into the school. Kevin turned to his parents and smiled “Looks like this is it then”. His mother broke free from his father’s reassuring arm and gave Kevin a hug that felt like it was going to strangle him. She soon let go, wiped the tears away and put on a brave face. “You ring us as often as you can now okay?” “Yes I’ll call as often as I can mum, don’t worry”. His father then moved some of Kevin’s bags out of the way and then muttered quietly to him. “Don’t you go getting in trouble okay. You keep your head down here and do your work.” “Yeah I promise dad, and take care of mum will you?” His father nodded and then stood back up again. Kevin grabbed his bags and started to walk into the school grounds, turning and waving as he did. His mum and dad looked on as Kevin ventured further into the grounds. They decided it was time to go, they jumped into the car, his father started the engine, they made a u turn in the road and then headed off home. Kevin could hear the rumble of his dad’s car become more and more distant and then, he couldn’t hear it at all. Kevin was now standing in the entrance hall. This was unlike anything he’s seen before, it was magnificent, with polished white floor tiles and a massive staircase which lay at the back of the room. After appreciating the décor around him, Kevin nervously approached the reception desk and was greeted by a calm and pleasant looking receptionist. “May I have your name please?” she asked. “Uhh yes, my name is Kevin Blake”. She scrolled through what seemed to be a list of names, Kevin bit his lip nervously, afraid she wouldn’t find his name on the list. “Ah here we go, Kevin Blake. Welcome Kevin, you can pick up your gift bag just over there” she nodded over towards the gift bags. Kevin walked over and picked up his gift bag, he then moved to the side to check its contents. A time table for classes, a key card for what he assumed to be his room, a map and to Kevin’s surprise some bathroom items! He smiled and shrugged it off, he looked at his key card and noticed he was in room 3. He placed the key card in his pocket, pulled out the map and started to look for the accommodation. “Ah hah, here it is. It says here its west of the entrance hall in a place called Valiant House. Guess I better start looking for it” thought Kevin. He readjusted his backpack, and reached for his suitcase on the ground. He didn’t have far to walk until he was back outside in the glorious weather again. He inhaled deeply and a huge smile appeared on his face as he started to head west to find his dorm room. |
Liam watched the English countryside roll by from his window seat on the bus, he had always loved watching the scenery during car rides, especially somewhere as beautiful as this area. He watched a squirrel crack open the shell of a nut and hand half of it over to another squirrel before they both simultaneously ran in opposite directions and climbed onto branches of different trees and ate their respective meals while staring each other down across the open air. "Hm...cool." He was so entranced by a few more little common occurrences that just so happen to barely ever happen in the Mojave Desert that he didn't notice the bus had stopped until one of the other people tapped his shoulder and got his attention. He was a little disappointed by how close the bus stop was to the campus, he had hoped for a nice walk but that couldn't stifle his awe at Gilded Halls.
Wow, it looks so nice and...grand, I thought there would be a lot more people...if it's exclusive why the hell was I invited? He listened attentively to the nice woman that stepped in front of everyone to explain how the day would begin and wondered if they were going to get anymore of an orientation than that. On the way into the main building through the gigantic beautiful doors he couldn't help noticing a few of the nice looking girls around. Cut it out you jerk, there are wonders of beauty it's okay to stare at and there are those that need the respect of distance, women are not for ogling. Being a man Will couldn't stop his eyes from scanning what he saw at least momentarily so as soon as possible he started looking at the building instead, besides the fact that it was gorgeous he needed to be respectful to his fellow students, especially in a school with such a small student body. He waited patiently in a short line to the reception desk, noting it wasn't that hard to guess who was the school 'mom', until it was his turn. "Alright dear, the gift bags are right over there, and the living quarters are a left hand turn from the entrance to the main hall." "Thank you ma-wait don't you need my name? I saw other students giving their names. " "Oh that's just a formality William, in case you haven't noticed there aren't a lot of names and faces to memorize, besides you stand out enough." He got his gift bag and walked towards the dorms, rifling through it as he did. "Key, map...ooohhh toiletries, thank god! I just realized I didn't pack my toothbrush!." Will noted that his card said room 1 and when he got to the split between the two groups of rooms he looked up at the nice plaque above each path. "1-4 and 4-8.....why doesn't it say 'boys' and 'girls'...oh well I guess 1 through 4 must be guys." On his way towards his dorm he saw a younger guy looking as excited as he felt to be there and taking in all of his surroundings, waved and offered him a pleasant smile as he walked by. "Hey neighbor, looking forward to a new chapter, hope to see you in class later!" When he got to room 1 and slid his card key in he realized he was the first one there so he wouldn't be meeting his roommate just yet. "Nice room, not a suite or anything but it's a school not a hotel, and it's really nice so far anyways, I think this'll do juuuust fine." He dropped his backpack on the floor next to the left bed and himself ON the left bed, crossed his right leg over his left and began to kick the air slowly as he sang a quiet tune from one of his favorite books to himself to relax before everything got more serious. Liam's speaking voice was nothing special, although he had a great vocabulary and was a good speaker, he had a beautiful singing voice when it didn't crack. "The road goes ever one and on, down from where it began, now far ahead the road has gone, and I must follow if I can, pursuing it with eager feet..." |
The clouds moved at a quickened pace as Ginevra's ride pulled up to the entrance of the boarding school, Gilded Halls, and she took in a deep breath to steady her nerves. Being offered a scholarship to go to this school had been quite unexpected, but she was nevertheless gracious at the opportunity to attend such a fine academic institution. With one long leg after another, she stepped out of the car and waved one final goodbye to her mother who had driven her. “I’ll keep in touch, Mom.” She smiled and waved as she wheeled her luggage towards what looked like the administration building. |

Riley Dauth Riley took his sweet time to get to the dorm. His stroll was interrupted by countless headturns and gazes at the structures around the campus. He took a whiff of the fresh English air. It must be a one of a kind day to not be raining in this country, he imagined. His trolley case rolled over the footpath, and students passed him by because he was walking at such a sluggish tempo. The inside of the dorm house looked similar in design to the entrance hall, except for the circuit hallway above that overhung the ground floor, and provided access to the first floor rooms. The furnishing looked pretty attractive too. He paced over to one of the sofas and gave it a test sit. And a big flat screen? Bigger than he remembered the one was in his friend Lazlow's house. Behind him he noticed was a kitchen island. Big enough counterspace for a couple students to make their meals at once. There was a microwave oven, a sink, and all the bahoozah installed in there. It was like it was made for people to live here. Aha, now that'd be an idea. He got back up from the couch and picked up his trolley case by the telescopic handle. He had room two, which was to the left, by the elevator side of the kitchen-lounge hybrid. He fished into his pocket and held a grip on the card key with his index and middle finger. A few other students had gone ahead and were checking out their rooms before him. He glanced to his side and gave a polite smile of acknowledgement at his neighbour, who had just entered the dorm and went to check his room. He turned back towards his door and swiped the card key, letting the door click open. He pushed it ajar and peered through. There were two beds. One on the left side, and one on the right side of the room. He guessed each room was meant for 2 students, should they have roomies. Would he have one? Oh god, it might get crowdy in here then. He shut the door behind him and rolled his trolley case to the side of the left-most bed. It was the one closest to the bathroom door, so ha! He'd have the quickest access to the toilet for nightly emergencies. He opened the closet on his side and clicked open the trolley case with the numbercode 115. The cask split open and he went to unpack his shirts, trousers, boxers, and jackets into the closet. He picked his bathroom items and took them to the bathroom, along with the goodies bag. No harm in an extra toothbrush or two, still. There was a cup on the bathroom sink where he could put the brushes in. The gift bag one had the logo of the school printed on the handle. He had his own toothpaste with him, a towel, which he hanged neatly on the towel rack, deodorant, now on the sink counter. He looked up at the socket that was mounted just above the mirror. Three-holed sockets? Well, he knew they had those just like in Australia, but the set up looked completely different. While he didn't bring anything electronic he would need in the bathroom, he'd have to remind himself to buy an American to British socket converter thingamajiggy so he could still charge his cellphone. In any case, the gift bag had a couple razor blades, in case his beard growth ever kicked in, which it didn't. His chin was still smooth, and there was not a single strand of hair that could hide the heart shape of his face. He got the pointy jawline from his mother's side. He didn't mind it so much though. Some people commented that he had the face of Paul McCartney when the Beatles only just kicked off, but then the nose kinda didn't fit in. Riley brushed a hand through his dark bangs and shook it up a little, then brushed it back so they'd fall back down in a more airy fashion. The heat of the car had made the hair stick to his wet forehead. The flight was fine. Flying to the east meant the sun got up much quicker than he had expected, but still, the jetlag was tolerable. Westward flying tends to be much, much, much worse. At least that's what he sometimes heard and saw when his step-aunt visited from New York. Still, he had a few hours less sleep than he normally had, so his biorhythm was kinda fumbled up, like he had just pulled an all nighter writing a draft for a novel. He smirked at himself and slapped his cheeks to wake himself up. He left the bathroom and fell on his bed. Somehow, he might just be okay with this. His mind wondered aloud. “What would the schedule be?” He reached into his gift bag and fished out the paper. Sports, and then Elements 101, huh. He shrugged, but he figured the Gilded Halls wouldn't exactly have standard classes, if they were the kind of school that could help him with his talents. He toyed with the idea of slipping into an other form, but he figured he'd best preserve that for some later class. Maybe he'd need to for the class, and he couldn't just wait for two hours before he could shapeshift again. That, in fact, was Riley's ability. That was the reason he hurt his mum and his dad split. He was a shapeshifter: stemming from an odd mutation in his genes, or the proof that something supernatural exists, maybe an aboriginal curse, or whatever stupid hocus-pocus that might be involved. It got him into more trouble than good. What good are superpowers when you don't live in a world where you can put yourself into a spandex with flashy electric colours and save the world with them? Maybe he could become a zoologist with them. In any way, that was why he was here. Across two ponds from where he would be if he never discovered his power, with the hopes of controlling it, and coming more in touch with his nature, and coax something useful out of it. To Riley, though, he just wanted to accept himself, and maybe find inspiration for a novel while he's here anyway. He shut his eyes, and just waited for the bell to go at some point. A few minutes of sleep couldn't hurt, and he needed it. |
Alicea finally reached her room and opened the door, not speaking to anyone. She was forced to wonder, were the dorms split between the genders? There were an awful lot more boys than girls here... Would she have to share a room? She had no idea, there were two beds in the room though. She put her bag down on her bed and opened it. There were some very basic things here, toothbrush, shampoo, soap... All things she had in her bag, whicch had found it's way here already. She also had the card key, which was in her hands, and the school map and class time table, which she placed to the side.
"Uhg... Why am i here?" she wondered aloud. She had never gotten an explanation for why she was sent here, or if she had she hadn't paid attention. She didn't know. Maybe it had something to do with when she made water boil last month. Had she even done that? It was very hot outside, but water didn't just start boiling! She had to find out more. She had noticed things were really cold if she wanted them to be as well, but maybe that was wishful thinking. She got up and grabbed a plastic cup and filled it with hot water. time to find out. She sat down and stared at it. And stared. And stared, imagining it was getting cooler. Slowly, the clear plastic began to get beads of condensation, and it was growing colder. She touched the cup and to her shock, it was kind of chilly, as if she had pulled it out of the fridge! She smiled some and let it go, still staring at it intently, trying to make it hot again. |
"Hey sweety, did you make it to that school alright?" My mom asked over the phone. I had been at the school for three days, even though it was a four day trip. I insisted that I go alone, and with enough push I was able to.
"Mhm." I simply replied. My arrival was rather inconspicuous, and I spent most of my time hanging out in the library computers so nobody would see me too early. It was an irrational paranoia that somebody who knew my parents may try to talk to me and possibly contradict my story to my parents.A big headache not worth dealing with. "I hope you really make something of yourself here, and remember that I will always love you." "Relax mom." I said calmly. "I'll probably be legendary in this school." I walked into my apartment, hours before anyone would even be awake. I flicked on the lights and put my bags down, "I'll call you tomorrow probably ok." I said, wishing to end the conversation. "Please do." She said sadly. "Love you." "Mhm." I said, then hung up. It wasn't like I hated her, or dad, I just didn't like them that much lately. I figured I'd probably grow out of it, and it was some teen thing, but for now I just went with it. Regardless, I set up my first laptop so that I could easily have a place to come back to. I had my desktop always on at home, and a net-book to carry around here. I wondered if I had a roommate, and whether or not they could find out about my power. "Maybe I'll drop subtle hints." I said to myself as I set up my bed, "Let him piece it together." After I finished I laid in bed, "That is something to worry about latter, now is the time to just relax." As I said that I began dematerializing into my cell phone. As usual my phone was simply a small room with a door on all four walls. Inside was just a file cabinet with my texts in it, a cot to lay on, and of course my clone deactivated in the corner. I walked up to it and did a little bit of maintenance. "In good shape at the moment." I said out loud, "I wish I could upgrade your battery without having to steal again. An hour always cuts it close." I had charged him to full before getting him in here, so I wasn't worried about using him latter if needed. The only problem would be the premeditation of his use, I can't have him deactivating in a class if I decide to replace myself. "Well" I sighed, "The best way to deal with this now, is to let later me deal with it" I opened the door on the wall labeled 1, it led to the app area, which I tailored to look somewhat like a city. Each building would allow me to enter the coding of an app and alter it, or if it was a game, participate in it. It took me a month to do, I had to get it to look perfect, I even had the foresight to leave empty building lots, in case I wanted more apps. I had also created human-like AIs to inhabit the area. Many of them looked alike, mostly like random stranger from the mall who I had memorized and copied. It made the place feel real, even though I couldn't touch them or get them to do anything but pretend to be on business. To be honest, I felt less lonely here than in the real world, though I kept going back simply because nothing here was real. I was used to false realities though. I walked through the city, not looking for any particular app, I just felt like walking. The weather always looked sunny, and the temperature was always in the low 70s so I wouldn't feel it. There were no animals, no clouds, no stars, or even a night time. It was what I believed to be perfect, right in my hand, able to call and text. Eventually I got bored and tired of walking, and went back to the central room. I laid on the cot and looked at the white ceiling, lit by no light, simply glowing as if it gave off it's own light. "What do you think clone, am I alone here?" I asked. There was no reply. "Of course I am." I answered myself, "I should ask if I'm alone up there in reality." The room began changing on my whim to a tropical beach, the four doors were no longer on walls, but rather four outhouses each numbered 1-4. I swung the now hammock, looking up at the always setting sun's orange glow over the ocean. "Or maybe I should ask who would answer all of these questions. |
Selena Bravo - Entrance At the other end of the phone, it was a woman. It was Selena's mother, talking her way through the entrance to Glided Halls, a prestigious school for the hidden arts. Selena faced the open gate and the school right in front of her. It became the first time she has ever stepped foot on a school campus...when the last time she went to school was the day she was bullied, and almost fatally killed a student using her poison vines. It was not only the first time she will step foot on a school, but it was also the first time she will activate her inactive social life. But one thing Selena needed to control was her anger. As she hasn't had any contact with human beings other than her grandparents and her home school teacher, talking and socializing with strangers will become a test, a challenge for her. “Mijita, I'm going to miss you.” Selena's mom spoke via phone. Selena walked slowly with her cellphone on one hand and her large suitcase on the other. “I'll be fine, mother. You and dad live just two cities away, and I'll be sure to call you every night.” “I know, mija,” Selena's mom said, “It's just that, I'm so worried about you that you'll be entering a school for the first time since the incident at 13 years old. I hope those interventions you've taken here have worked.” “Mother, I'll be alright. I can control my anger and I promise I won't fight with anyone here.” Selena smiled. “I also promise that I'll make friends.” “Selena,” her mom paused, “I love you so much. I'll miss you.” “I love you too... I'll call you when I get settled in my room.” “Alright, bye mija.” Selena's mom concluded, and hung up. Selena paused for a little bit...then glanced up on the two-story building that is Glided Halls. The future, the start of a new life, and a new school year, starts now. “bye...bye.” |
Evan Kyong – In Room 8
*SNORT* - “huh?” Evan looks around. Sunrays are streaming in through the window. The room is still naked. There is a half-eaten cookie – lemon – between his legs. (I must have been sleeping.) Evan lifts up his button-up shirt and scratches his belly. He yawns. Sweeping the crumbs off the bed, Evan gets to work. |
→ Jamie Lane ● Arriving at Gilded Halls - - - - - The taxi pulled up outside the gate, "This is your stop, champ," said the friendly cab-driver, not wanting the hassle of being mistaken as an emotional parent. "Cheers," Jamie sighed, pulling open the back door of the black, city taxi and dragging his stuffed sports bag on to the pavement. He had used the last of his money to get escorted directly from London - costing him a few hundred pounds for this man's service, but well worth it in Jamie's eyes. The older man wound down the window, lowering his head to make eye-contact with Jamie. "It might be alright, you know," he suggested, with a smirk, "stay safe kid!" The taxi pulled away with some speed, leaving Jamie alone with the uniformed gate guard. "Would you mind?" Jamie asked, sarcastically, sneering at the guard. Luckily, the professional did his job without kicking up a fuss - he knew that it was best not to anger the students of this school. "Bring my bag up whenever you're ready," he added, throwing his heavy luggage towards the gatehouse and strolling in to the school grounds for the first time. Already, he could see lots of nice cars dropping people off - perhaps students like him. However, he doubted that he would last long at this school, he didn't have the best track record. |
Selena Bravo - Room 1 “Here's your key, young lady!” The front desk receptionist of Glided Halls kindly gave Selena a room key to her room, which was the number one. She also gave her an informational packet of everything about the school, including a fat book of rules and guidelines...which was a little heavy to carry in one hand. “Thank you, ma'am.” Selena nodded, and walked from the reception desk. She was amazed at the diverse student body, but at the same time, she was extremely shy, she didn't know where to begin. But for sure she'll have to get settled in Room 1. She walked passed the lobby, and entered the student lounge, which was encompassed by four student rooms. The lounge was luxuriously decorated. There were benches made for students to sit around and relax, as well as exclusive paintings framed all around. A fancy staircase was also in the front, leading to the upper floor of the building. Selena assumed the classrooms were above, as she hasn't seen any other rooms around the floor she was in. Selena then looked at the map, and she immediately eyed her way towards Room 1...right in front of her. It had a wooden finish, with a golden doorknob and a golden number finish with “1” sparkling gold. Without hesitation, Selena walked her way towards the door, and starts to hear a singing voice from the other side of the door. It was a...boy's voice, but she...hopefully knows that it wasn't coming from her room. Slipping her card key on the door slot, the light turned green, and Selena turned the door knob to open the door before her. As the door opened wide, she spots a boy on one of the beds, and the radio speakers were blasted out loud around the room. Selena's eyes widened in anxiety. She gasped, her garden vines start to sprout from her wrists, grabbing the door as quickly as possible with her left hand, and the suitcase handle with her right. “Oh...oh my God!” Selena frighteningly said, taking a step back, “What are you doing here?? Get out of my room!” She dropped her school information packet on the floor, the rulebook also fell on top of Selena's right foot, engaging the pain she caused. Her vines start to let go of both her suitcase and the door and were retracted back to her wrists. “Ow! Damn book!” She kneeled down to soothe her pain using both her hands. She honestly wasn't expecting to bring in such introduction. She wasn't also expecting to see a boy in her room, either. Not only it was the start of a school year, but it was also a start to an extremely interesting year. Selena then glanced at the boy once more, “I hope they gave me the wrong room!” |
Matthias Winston - Room 3 It didn’t take long for Matthias to exit from the small hallway passing the two classrooms, the only two classrooms according to the map he’d gotten, and come out onto the pathway leading from the main building, to the residence-building for students to the left of the school. Several other students, in fact, majority of them, were already heading towards it, so Matthias simply rolled his shoulders and follow them. As he entered into the, to him, rather grand lounge-hall, his eyes widened, taking in both the large staircase upstairs, the TV, the sofas, the armchairs, the carpet… oh, and a kitchen! A bright smile lit up on his face as he stepped into the middle of the room and looked around. “Wow. This seems… really luxurious! I wonder if every kind of… college, I suppose, is like this in England…” He took another moment to admire the scenery before picking out his keycard from his pocket, looking it over. “Room… three. Right.” With that, he quickly found the room off to the right, slid the card into the door and pushed it open, entering the room. It was rather nicely decorated, with two beds, a nightstand for each, a desk to share, a small table, a couple chairs pushed up against the wall and a large closet for the people living in the room to make use of. There was also a bathroom, Matthias noted, as he stepped over and lowered the large suitcase onto the bed to the right, nearest the door. He dropped the backpack as well, taking a deep breath and glancing around with a curious look in his eyes. He stepped over to the window and peered out, noticing he could just barely see the school from this angle, but easily see the facilities behind it, where, according to the map at least, the sports-stuff was. The whole schoolgrounds seemed perfect to just wander around and relax in, if you wanted to have a nice, sunny day where you could sit under a tree and study or read, if that’s what you wanted. A small smile lit up his face as he unlocked the window, pushing it open before placing his hands on the window ceil and leaning slightly out of the window, taking in the fresh air. This was going to be fun. |
Kevin Blake - Room 3 Kevin continued to walk the path towards the accommodation, with what also seemed to be many other students who much like him, were also trying to locate their place of rest. He exhaled deeply and wiped the sweat off his brow with the sleeve of his jacket when he finally arrived at Valiant House. Upon heading inside, the place was much like the entrance hall, grand, spacious and extremely well furnished. Looking around he noticed the abundance of facilities and recreational items available to the students here, most predominantly there were sofas, armchairs, a big TV and a small kitchen. More than enough to entertain some students, although that did depend on how much TV you can withstand. After he had finished taking in the scenery he pulled out the key card from his pocket and cross checked the number on the card with the number on the rooms. “Ah here we go, room three!” he thought to himself. He walked over to the door and noticed that the card had to be inserted into some kind of machine for it to unlock the door. He smiled and prepared to slide the card into this small machine. Suddenly a worrying thought entered his head and he stopped dead in his tracks. “This machine could be powered by electricity, if I’m not careful I might end up breaking it!” he mumbled. He looked down at his hand and soon clenched it into a fist. He would dare tell no-one he had some kind of ability, they would think him some kind of freak and he would soon be out casted by others much like his parents did. He placed his hand underneath his jacket and grabbed the key card, hoping the jacket would be enough to stop any electricity that might pass through into the machine. He wiped the sweat off his brow once more using his free hand, placed the key card into the machine and expected the worst. Suddenly he heard a small ‘click’ sound come from the door, he pulled out the card and attempted to turn the handle, much to his surprise it actually turned. He gently opened the door, pulled his luggage into the room with him and the sounds of chatter and excitement soon became more muffled as the door started to close behind him. Kevin didn’t have much of a chance to look around his new ‘home’ as his attention was fully focused on the boy who stood over by the window. “Umm, hi! My name’s Kevin … I guess I’m your new roommate!” he spoke nervously. |
Liam had moved on to a new song and was still singing softly to himself and still completely ignoring whatever radio was playing in another room, little did he know how ironic his next choice was. "She's a rebel, she's a saint, she's salt of the earth and she's dangerous. She's a rebel, vigilante, missing link on the brink of destruction." He was knocked out of his reverie by the sound of somebody fiddling with the door, when it began to open he started to get up to greet his new roommate when he heard a girl's gasp and turned up to see a girl in his room...and with vines coming out of her wrists. He was so surprised his face didn't have time to stop smiling before it froze in shock, scrunching into a wide-eyed half smirk. He found himself unable to move until she yelled at him to get out "Hey now, don't get mad at me, all I did was go where they told me it's not like I expected to see a girl in here!"
Any anger he was beginning to feel evaporated when she dropped the book on her foot, he immediately stooped down and picked it up, setting it gently on what would be her bedside table unless they switched places. When it seemed she had settled down he couldn't help noticing she was a looker. Hoo...the man who invented jeans was a genius, even more so who first spread it around that women should wear skinny jeans "Hey um...I'm sorry if I startled you, there could have been a mistake, I mean after all it's not like they really gave us much of an orientation, although come to think of it..." He thought back to when he looked at the plaques before finding his room and something clicked in his head. "I just remembered...the dorms were only labeled with numbers, I didn't see anything about boys or girls, you think the school might be...co-ed?" Oh my...what do I do if i have a girl for a rommmate? I've never even lived in the same house as a girl before, what if she hogs the shower mornings? And if I say anything stupid she might make me sleep on a couch outside of the room like mom and dad. He tried not to let his worries show and put a casual smile on his face. "Well I've already had time to settle in a bit and reorganize my backpack, so I'll leave you to relax and do whatever you need to do, and I'll go to the reception desk and ask about the whole mix up." He figured a little privacy would be good for her. He grabbed his key from his bedside table and strolled out into the hallway. Man, we haven't even had an actual orientation yet and the school already put somebody in the wrong room. Poor girl, being put in the boys dorms, it must have been embarrassing for her, and then she hurt her foot too...Although, would sharing a room with a girl be so bad? She smells nice, it wouldn't be very hard to sleep with air as sweet as that in my room. He got to the reception desk and tapped the surface to get the woman's attention. "Hello, yes um there seem's to have been a mistake, there's a girl in my room, shouldn't she be in the other dorms?" The woman looked at him as if the idea of gender separation at a boarding school had never even occurred to her until he mentioned it. "Oh no no no, that's not how we do things here, the headmaster organized the room setups himself, I assure you he has very good reasons for all the pairings, they aren't even random." Will's eyes nearly bugged out of his head. "The headmaster put me with a girl...on purpose?!? WHAT KIND OF PSYCHOPATH WOULD DO SUCH A THING! I MEAN IF YOU GUYS CHOSE US ALL TO BE HERE YOU MUST KNOW A CERTAIN AMOUNT ABOUT OUR LIVES AND I'VE NEVER EVEN-Ahrm, I mean I've had plenty of girls and I was quite the smooth guy at my last school of course so uhh...You know my circumstances aren't even what's important here, how's she supposed to feel about all this? What about a girl's privacy and all that?" "The Headmaster knows what he's doing, now if you would, please go do whatever you want to pass the time until the first class begins." Liam's shoulder's slumped in defeat and he walked back to room 1, when he got there he slid the key, opened the door and dropped onto his bed. "Welp, there's no mistake, we're both supposed to be here apparently, so I guess we better get as comfy as possible." He felt his cheeks burn at the way he worded that. "What I meant to say is we may as well get used to all this, I'll just say right now you have dibs on the bathroom whenever you want it and i usually sleep on my side so...I'll make sure to face the wall at night. Anyways, my name is William Coenen, but you can call me Will, or Liam, or just Lee, doesn't really matter as long as I'm not jerkface mcbastard, what's your name roomie?" For the sake of a proper greeting Will stood up and offered her his hand. |
Matthias Winston - Room 3 Matthias blinked a little in surprise as the door to the room opened once again and the sound of chatting people moving around in the hall outside moved in along with the boy who walked in and shut the door behind him, leaving the two in near-silence again. He seemed nervous, but friendly enough. He was probably a few years younger than Matthias, but nothing to really set them apart, apart from the slight change in height and the fact that Matthias’ hair was dark-blue, semi-short and set up with a bit of hairgel, at least at the front, and Kevin’s hair was red, longer and swept off to the side. At a first glance, look-wise, they looked almost like complete opposites, but Matthias didn’t really pay it any attention as he just raised his hand to give the guy a little wave and a friendly smile, now feeling a little nervous himself. “Hey! I’m… erh, I’m Matthias. I suppose so, yeah!” Internally, he felt extremely ashamed of his accent. Despite feeling like he had a really great grasp of English and that he’d always been praised for his great pronounciation, now that he was in a place where –everyone- spoke English, he couldn’t help but feel that his accent started slipping a bit. Hopefully, nobody would mind. “So, uh, hope you don’t mind I’ve already picked a bed. We can switch if you want, but I didn’t think whoever was gonna stay her besides me minded.” He raised a hand to give the back of his head a little scratch while glancing over at the bed on his right, which was currently unoccupied. |
Nathan was looking around the school before going to settle his things in the room they got for him. He wanted to choose his own but he wasn't complaining since his room's number was his favorite : the number 4. At least, that was a good thing with it, Nathan thought. He was still admiring the school's beauty. Even for someone living in a huge mansion, the details put in each zone was still amazing. He felt he could live there all his life. He was even feeling better here than at his own home where he would stay locked in his room all day. |
→ Jamie Lane ● Room 7 - - - - - Ginny was sprawled out on top of her bed, her hands were behind her head and her seemingly never ending legs were stretched out. The door opening did not phase her one bit, in fact, she was experiencing a bit of delayed jet lag due to the six hour time difference between England and her home in Alabama. It was her first time leaving the country and the process to get her passport and student visa had been exhausting. So far, it seemed like many different cultures were represented so far in the small amount of students she had seen in the Grand Hall. - - - - - The card key took longer than he expected, he swiped it through the reader over and over again waiting for the green light. Finally, it gave him the all clear. He sighed, in a slight huff, and stumbled in to the room. As he heaved open the door, far stronger than needed, he swung big bag off his shoulder and on to the nearest bed. The bag impacted Ginny solidly in the chest and she screamed herself awake as she now felt a throbbing pain across her bosom. The heavy duffel was soon tossed aside and she sat up, massaging the pain away as she felt tears running down her cheek. Her deep southern accent was amplified as she cried out, "The hell is wrong with you and what are you doing in my room?!" "Your room?" Jamie asked mockingly, without a hint of an apology. "Room 7 - Jamie Lane," he said, showing her his key card, "What are you, the maid?" He looked the girl up and down. Jamie could tell she was taller than him, even sitting down. Her accent screamed American, although he wasn't sure exactly where she was from. Jamie didn't have the pleasure of siblings, and rarely bothered socialising with the goody-two-shoes girls of his former school. This one seemed different, but he was no where near ready to roll over - this was his room, on his terms.= A joint post by Mac and SwiftSign |
Selena Bravo - Room 1 Without hesitation, the boy picked up the book after Selena hurt herself by accident. He seemed pretty nice, and of course, not of her type. She remained silent as the boy continuously explained that the whole thing was a mix-up. Selena couldn't agree more, she didn't want a roommate...better yet, she doesn't want a BOY to be her roommate. She felt calm as the boy decided to return to the reception desk, leaving Selena alone to get settled. The right side of the bed was already a mess to Selena, and to make matter's worse, he already took the window-side. For Selena's condition, she needs the window side. "Wait...!" Selena said, "Do you need me to come with you?" And yet, he couldn't stop him. Selena shrugged off and walked inside the room, shutting the door completely after herself. Setting her large suitcase and her purse on the fancy bed which was twice the size of her bed back home in Mexicali, there were nights that she couldn't sleep, and nights that she felt extremely dehydrated because of lack of sun. She glanced at the window, where the sun glared at the boy's bed. It was perfect for Selena to indulge and obtain her daily sunlight. Suddenly, she heard a loud scream from the receptionist desk. Maybe someone didn't like their roommate either. A sudden urge to drink water came to Selena. Thankfully, she had a gallon of water in her suitcase. She quickly took it out and started gulping until the gallon was half-empty. She took a deep breath after the multiple gulps of water, and starts to sprout a pink flower on her right index finger. Moments later, the boy finally returned from the reception desk. He looked red, probably from enragement. Selena quickly hid her gallon of water and tore the pink flower off her finger, hurting her just a little, and glanced at him, as if nothing has happened. The boy mentioned that there was absolutely no mistake. The whole thing was just set up. "I am already comfortable, and well...I guess I don't mind living here with a boy like you." Selena said, "I mean, I at least need some social interaction seeing as I was homeschooled." The boy kindly introduced himself. He seemed pretty funny. Selena never had any interaction with boys, and it looks to her that the boy hasn't had any interactions with girls either. She also doesn't want to let out her secret ability, like she did as she came in for the first time. Or worse...she hoped she didn't notice her vines sprouted from her wrists earlier. "I'm Selena." She offered a handshake to the boy, named Liam. "I apologize for earlier...I seem to have an anger issue." She then glanced at the window behind him, "Oh, and by the way...can we switch beds? I prefer the window side seeing as I...MUST have a window right next to me." |
Alicea froze when she heard the voice. Oh god, there was a boy in her room! Oh wait... Was... he her room mate? Why would they put her in a room with a boy? That was... odd. And she could tell he thought she was a freak. She... Blushed a bit and looked at the water, which had begun to steam. it was obvious that it was hot, having been boiling a little bit before.
"Um... Hi." was his simple statement. He was pretty handsome, maybe, and had this general air of defiance, and at the present awkwardness. She was sure it was because he had walked in on her staring at a cup of hot water for no reason. Well, no apparent reason. He couldn't know she had powers. She gave him a small smile and bowed her head, her hair hanging over her face. "Um... H-hello... Who're you?" she asked, her voice very hard to understand, given her thick Texas accent and the fact she was mumbling. She seemed unwilling to look at him, too shy. "Um... What're you doin' in my room?" |
Kevin Blake - Room 3 The boy who Kevin would be sharing a room with introduced himself as Matthias. As far as Kevin could tell, he seemed to be a few years older than him. His hair was a dark-blue or black to some people, it was cut up short and flicked up at the front due to some hair gel. He clearly liked to have his hair looking good as opposed to Kevin’s longer, swished to the side look. Another strange thing about Matthias was that he reminded Kevin very much of his father, at a much younger age of course. He definitely seemed like a friendly guy, especially making the effort to smile and give Kevin a little wave in greeting. He also noticed that he had quite a strong accent, European by the sounds of it, but in light of this he seemed to have a perfect grasp of the English language. Kevin decided not to bring this up in conversation yet as they’d only just met, perhaps later when they got to know each other a bit. After this nervous and less than smooth introduction, Matthias stated that he had already picked a bed and didn’t mind switching if need be. Kevin could see him scratching the back of his head and looking over towards the unoccupied bed on his right side. Kevin looped the strap of his backpack over his head and placed it down on the floor beside the bed that Matthias looked at, he then proceeded to wheel his suitcase over near the bedside table. “This one’s perfect dude, I’ve got no problem with it”. Kevin could now feel a weight lifted of his shoulders as he freely moved his arms about without the added weight of a backpack and a suitcase which felt like it weighed a ton. He inhaled deeply and gave a big smile as he threw himself down onto his new bed. Relaxing on the bed Kevin crossed his legs and placed his hands behind his head still smiling as if all his problems had just been washed away. “So Matthias, how’d you end up coming here?” |
the improbable beginnings of a grand performanceShe arrives at the location of the school in an unassuming vehicle (said vehicle's identity being a slightly beat-up beige Volvo estate) beneath the glow of the morning sun. As she opens the door and evacuates herself from the automobile, she reaches into the morning air with a hand, as if grasping at something - and closes her palm, seemingly over nothingness, a moment later. She's made up her mind about something, and reaches into the back of the station wagon for her rosewood suitcase. "Naturally, I'll contact home if something that requires attention comes up." Her voice is a little hoarse after the period of time spent inside the car, and she clears her throat, acknowledging the fact. After a few moments of struggle with her luggage, during which she ascertains that everything is as it should be, she adds: "I'll write at the earliest opportunity. Good-bye, father." Receiving an amused smile and a few words of farewell in return, she waves cheerfully and sets off towards the front gates of the school. It is her first instance of attending a boarding school; the fees are not particularly expensive, a welcome surprise, and attendance is of her own volition, so she had encountered virtually no resistance to the prospect. She would have been attending more of sixth form for the year, anyway, and it is not as if she needs the additional education, regardless of the fact that she has set her sights on Oxbridge - probably as a History or Classics student, she muses, before gathering her thoughts back to herself. Leaving her suitcase with the domestic help, she strides past the front area of the grounds and into the reception, where she is met by a diverse assortment of teenagers as well as a few interspersed parents. She is used to allowing her mind free reign even while she perceives the world in its full vividness. Fixation on a specific topic would, for her, in most situations essentially be an exercise in boredom. Thus she manages, quite easily, to capture the contents of the announcement made by the staff member - who is unmistakably the chief caretaker of the institution, without even needing the uniform to assist in judgment - while directing most of her attention at mentally re-examining the estate that the school is built on. Its size had been satisfactory, but there is much to be desired from the completeness of the facilities - probably a side effect of the freshness of the institution. What won't be made up by history will have to be made up by distinction, I hope. She does a cursory scan of the crowd of other students, and though the information she collects is not particularly encouraging, it rapidly becomes a source of intense interest before she deliberately shuts down the process, considering it better to gather details from the students in person. Alongside the rest of the throng of people, she enters the entrance hall and collects the introductory packet, which she deduces to contain the key to her assigned room, the number of which is six. She notes, after a few calculations and with a little displeasure, that a male (!) occupant would be sharing the accommodations, but resolves herself to bear with the circumstances. The dormitory dubbed Valiant House is comparatively small when considered alongside, say, one of the twelve houses at Harrow, but she likes the quaintness and modernity of the structure. Allowing herself a brief face-first moment in the sheets of the bed (not the softest, but it'll do), she returns herself to a sitting position and quickly moves about, unpacking and storing away the contents of her luggage; after which, she thinks, it would be an excellent time to pay a visit to her immediate schoolmates (fellow-tenants? housemates? whatever term would be the most appropriate, anyway). |

Liam smiled genuinely when Selena introduced herself, it was a good sign. "Selena, I've always thought that was a beautiful name, I believe it means Moon Goddess, funny because my parents tell me 'moon' was my first word, it's also ironic since you like the sun." He realized that nowhere in that sentence had he answered her question and rubbed the back of his head, embarrassed. "Oh yes of course, take it I don't mind, have dibs on whatever you want, besides plants need the sun right?" When he noticed that it was her turn to be embarrassed he felt bad. "Oh um, I hope that didn't sound too rude, there's nothing wrong with you, after all I'm not exactly normal myself, I can see things other people can't, check this out."
Liam got up and pulled two perfectly smooth pebbles from his pocket that he had found outside school grounds when they caught his eye. "I like to carry around pebbles with me, you'll see why in a moment." He set one pebble on his bedside table, and put the other one on his index finger in a thumbs up position, he put his head behind his hand and scrutinized the angle between his hand and the other pebble, then he looked at the rest of the room, measuring the dimensions of the walls and ceiling in his head, gauging what he wanted to happen. Finally he looked back at the other pebble and flicked the one in his hand hard with his thumb, it flew into the second pebble, causing it to bounce onto the ceiling then the back wall and then back into the other pebble at the exact angle, they both began to propel each other between the back wall, the ceiling, and the back wall in an endless cycle, going up down forward and back but never left or right so as to have no chance of hitting Selena until Will reached out his hands and caught both of them out of the air at the same time. With his little trick done Will sat on the floor to relax a moment and rub his eyes, they were sore from not blinking the whole time. After his eyes stopped burning he remembered the beds and got all of his stuff off of the left bed, lifted his backpack off the floor and stood aside with a slight bow. "Sorry for getting distracted, your sleeping quarters milady." He said with playful fake formality as he gestured to the bed he had been on. "Also, sorry about my singing earlier, I'll try not to do it when you're in the room, although I feel I should warn you now, I can't stop myself from singing in the shower, feels too good!" He put a theatrical smile on his face. "Speaking of which, I can try to find a bathroom somewhere else to use, if you want the one in here to yourself, I know girl's need their privacy when it comes to that kind of thing." |

Matthias Winston - Room 3 As Kevin wheeled his case over next to his bed and proceeded to climb on top of it and lay down, Matthias seemed to ease up ever so slightly from the otherwise slightly stiff pose he was still standing in. Instead, he moved back, placing his hands on the window ceil, pulling himself up to sit in the ceil of the open window, feet dangling slightly off the ground. “Great to hear. How I came here? Well… erh, you know, that’s a really good question. From the looks of things, only a handful of people came here. And I have a hunch that they’re not just from the UK and surrounding countries. That, and… well, I haven’t really done anything extraordinary during my studying for me to get noticed or even invited to this kind of… boarding school, I guess? College? I always mess up the terms, heh.” He glanced over at Kevin, giving a little grin as he raised a hand to brush his fingers lightly through his hair while a small breeze blew in through the window behind him. “I’m from Denmark, so… yeah, sorry if I get something wrong. What about you though? How did you wind up here?” |
Ginny swung her legs off of her bed and stormed over to the short boy that had entered her room uninvited, "Looks like you need a class in manners, boy!" She emphasized the word boy as she towered over him, putting one hand on each of his shoulders as she roughly slammed him against the wall. "I am not your maid, you little snot. It looks like, somehow, I'm supposed to manage living with you at this school." She pinned him down with her left forearm and fished for her card key, "Ginevra Morrigan - Room 7. Read it. Apparently, we're stuck together." She moved her forearm up to his throat and pinned him there, but not hard enough to really hurt him, "Just remember who's the little boy in this room. Hint, it's not me." - - - Surprised by her sudden burst forward, Jamie paused, ending up being pushed by the girl. His back slammed against the wall, he struggled to get a word in as the girl, Ginerva, reeled a series of attacks. Her last comment finally hit home, little boy. Jamie knew he wasn't exactly tall, but he was definitely not some child that she could mess around. He huffed, shoving her backwards and off of him. "Get lost," he uttered, barely more than a whisper. Anger was clear in his eyes, he was close to snapping. Instead of retaliating, his conscience managed to make a snap decision, he stormed back to the door and left the room - slamming it shut behind him, shouting obscenities all the way. - - - "Run away, little boy!" Ginny yelled after her roommate stormed out of the room. In a fit of anger, she took his duffel and threw it against the wall near his bed. No idea how I'm going to manage living with that little snot. She sighed and took a deep breath before leaving her room to find someone, anyone, else to interact with than him. He would probably go storm off and come back crawling later, or try to strangle her in her sleep, or maybe just go tell on her. Only time would tell. A joint post written by Mac and SwiftSign |
Kevin Blake - Room 3 With the nervous first encounter now over, both boys started to relax a bit more. Matthias was now sitting up on the window-sill which he stood at just a few seconds ago and Kevin was still relaxing on his bed. Matthias explained how he came about to be here at this school, he also took note of the fact that the students here were coming from all over and he finally stated that he didn’t do anything extraordinary that would have allowed the college to spot him or take an interest in him. Kevin knew all too well what he meant, the fact that Kevin caused a lot of trouble and spent most of his time in the principal’s office of his old school, he had no idea why this place which seemed so upper class and fancy would took an interest in a boy who had a track record of disliking school. Kevin was now deep in thought until he was snapped out of it by Matthias who stated that he was from Denmark and then went on to ask Kevin how he got here. Kevin closed his eyes and now sat up in the bed turning himself so that he now sat upright on the edge of the bed. He placed his hands together and stared at the ground worried about what Matthias will make of his story. “This probably isn’t the best way to make a good first impression but I’ll tell you my story anyway. I uhh … I used to cause a lot of trouble in my old school, I had little time for school but like every other kid, I just had to go, end of story. So while I was in school, I probably spent about nighty percent of my time in the principal’s office and the other ten percent at home. To be honest I actually rarely went to class. After a while my parents decided to send me to a different school, they knew it was going to be difficult finding a school that would accept me given my track record, but surprisingly the only school to reply was this one. So here I am, trying to start again with a clean slate. I promised my father I would hit the books this time, I can’t let my parents down again.” Kevin was careful to leave out the parts about his parents growing distant from him because of this ‘gift’ he had. It was tough enough telling someone he was some kind of troublemaker never mind about the fact he possessed some kind of strange ability. “And that’s my story”. Kevin looked up at Matthias, raised his eyebrows and gave a nervous looking smile, worried about what Matthias would make of his ex-troublemaker roommate. |
"Listen, I'm in Room 4 so I think it's our room for now. I think they made an error but anyways my name is Nathan Steele. Pleased to meet you."
He seemed nice. She... Was still not very talkative, though that was her nature. She relaxed a bit though as he explained. So it wasn't him just barging into her room, he was actually supposed to be here. She gave him a curious look. He... Had not asked her name. Did he just not care what her name was? Oh well. She decided the polite thing to do would be to give it anyways. "Alicea Bernard... It's a pleasure to meetcha too..." she mumbled softly, her eyes following his gaze to the cup. He was still wondering about that cup... And his next words made her freeze. "By the way, is that cup of water an imaginary friend to you or something? Just judging from the way you looked at it and I mean no offense." Yup. He thought she was crazy. Absolutely loony. But which would make him think she was crazier, pretending she had an imaginary friend like some little child, or telling him she could make things hot or cold just by looking at them? After some debate she decided that the truth was the best option, no matter how insane. "..." She just couldn't find the words at all to speak. She put the cup down and sighed, letting her actions speak for her. She looked back at the cup, and soon the steam would stop entirely, and then after a little while longer little frosty beads of water would form on it. It would take a few minutes, but it was cold again. She let him pick it up or touch it or whatever he wanted, so he could see for himself that the steaming cup of water was now cold, as if it had just been pulled out of the fridge. Of course now SHE felt really cold, and began shivering. THAT had never happened before. She never felt like this, why was she so cold? Didn;t matter she supposed, but maybe she better leave that ability alone for a while... "S-see?" she asked weakly, gesturing at the cup. "it's not... a-an imaginary friend... I-it's... crazier..." |
Matthias Winston - Room 3 Matthias sat quietly and listened to Kevin’s story, his hands placed on either side of him on the windowsill, feeling the summery breeze brushing in behind him. He nodded his head slightly. He could definitely understand what the guy was going through, from what he’d told him. Matthias himself hadn’t been to school since kindergarden, and there were a lot of times where he longed after having a more… normal life, but even being homeschooled and doing fairly well, Matthias wasn’t exactly… eager, about studying, even if he did pull through with it when put to the test. “Sounds pretty rough. I did all of my homework… or well, almost all of it, eventually. I know how you felt though, life should be more about enjoying yourself rather than cramming all kinds of useless stuff like geometry into your head, right?” He sent Kevin a wry little grin, raising his hands and stretching his arms out over his head, huffing quietly. “Don’t worry about it. If you need me to try and give you a nudge to get your stuff done, don’t be afraid to ask. I’m sure I could help motivate you to get whatever stuff we’ll be doing here done.” He paused for a moment as a few people were apparently shouting and, in one case, swearing rather loudly, outside. Matthias let out a little chuckle. “Sounds like people are getting along well already. Actually… there isn’t much reason for the school to get a hold of a bunch of… well, random kids like us and put us all in here together without some kind of plan in mind. It just doesn’t make sense.” Tilting his head a little back, he stared up at the ceiling for a few moments, a thoughtful look on his face. After a few moments, he looked down at Kevin again, a mischievous little smile playing on his lips. “… It's a little fishy if you ask me. Care to help out with a bit of investigating?” |
Nathan was still looking at the cup of water. He lifted his head and he watched her look at him in curiosity. Then she mumbled her name and it hit him. How did he forget to ask her name? It wasn't very courteous nor polite of him to do this. Maybe it's because he never really interacted with a girl before this day. Usually all girls were at his feet so he had little to no effort to do to date them. I guess she isn't like the girls at my ancient school. He couldn't help but smile as he felt the stay at Gilded Halls would be rather exciting. |
Selena Bravo - Room 1 “Wait...” Selena was stunned by the incredible trick Liam had attempted. Two pebbles made their way towards Selena, but was caught by him on time. He seemed to have above normal eyesight, but...it was more of a superhero eyesight. Selena heard of a noise from the outside of her dorm, some sort of a light blast. She went over to open the door to check what it was. And she couldn't believe her eyes... I...I...can't believe it. It was all Selena could think of. There were students with incredible abilities. Abilities similar to her plant manipulation. Selena then stepped back inside, and closed the door, facing Liam afterwards. “I'm beginning to think that this school is for people with weird but amazing abilities. Even...I have an amazing ability.” Selena said, snapping her right finger to grow a daisy on her right index finger. “I have an ability to grow anything of plant. I can also manipulate them, and reach anything using..." she then starts to sprout a vine from her left wrist. The vine consists of a leaf on the end and tiny little leaves following thereafter. It was a short vine, just to show off the boy who was moving his belongings to the wall side of the bed. "...this, basically." There was a brief pause around the room. "Actually, I wouldn't mind sharing a bathroom with you, as long as you don't hog it or dump a stink bomb in there. I promise I won't hog it either." Selena said, "Girls do need their privacy, and I'll try to respect yours." Her vine retracted back to her wrist once more. "Thanks for allowing me to take the bed aside from the window. As I'm a plant, I do need my sunlight." It took about 15 minutes to get settled. She stored her five gallons of fresh water under her bed, but in the meantime she drank the other half of the gallon she drank earlier. She hoped Liam would not ask why she not only drinks so much water, but to why she drinks like a pig. Gulping to every last drop of water, Selena then placed the gallon under her bed. "I'll give you some time alone, as I'm gonna go outside to obtain a little sunlight. I'll catch you later!" She said as she grabbed her bag, waved goodbye to Liam, and closed the door after herself. As the door closed to herself, she shrugged, twitched, and groaned. I'm gonna live with a BOY? (OOC: aaand i'm late for english class BYE GUYS) |
Kevin Blake - Room 3 "Investigating huh? Alright … count me in.” Kevin himself was curious as to what was going on in this school. Why did they accept him? Why gather a bunch of random students from the opposite ends of the world, not make them do any kind of entrance exam, and just take them on board immediately. It didn’t make much sense and that’s why it was strange. Kevin then stood up from the edge of the bed and rummaged around in his suitcase to find his phone, it didn't take long before he found it. His quickly grabbed it, checked the time and threw it onto the bed with the screen still lit up. He then pulled out a bottle of water he had stored away, he took a few mouthfuls, closed the lid tight and set the bottle down on the bedside locker. Finally he picked up the backpack he wore earlier and looped his head through the strap once more, and then proceeded to readjust the bag and make sure it sat properly. Looking over at Matthias, he gave a reassuring nod. “I’m ready whenever you are”. It all sounded so shady … investigating. They were only simple students here not detectives, although Kevin’s curiosity did get the better of him, and he now wanted to know why everyone was called here. It was then that Kevin could suddenly feel the tips of his fingers tingling. This wasn’t unusual to him as it pretty much happened without fail every time he drank water. He looked down at his hand which now dangled carelessly by his side. He clenched it into a fist hoping the tingling would stop. But he had a better idea, he had a pair of gloves in his backpack which usually helped get rid of the tingling sensation. As he sat down on the bed to remove his backpack, a small little jolt of lightning jumped across from his hand over towards his phone and the screen was now a pitch black. This was most unusual as Kevin drank water all the time, sure he got the tingling sensation every time he drank water, but never has he reacted to something without touching it. Looking over at the now pitch black screen on his phone and realizing that he'd just demonstrated his power, he immediately stood up and looked at Matthias, unsure if Matthias had just witnessed Kevin’s ‘trait’ or not. |
Evan and Dom – Awake in Room 8
*SNORT* - “huh?” Evan swiftly picks up the willow branch, pointing it inches away from this, this hulk’s neck. The room is tense and time seems to freeze. Evan relents and lowers his guard. “Hahahahaha…” he chuckles out loud. “I’m Evan, Kyong. And you must be my roommate.” A joint post by BlahISuck and ChiliDawgs |
When Will saw the look of astonishment on Selena's face a very rare event happened, he was proud of himself. Well would you look at that, I actually impressed somebody for once in my life. Then Selena began to show some of her plant traits and briefly explained her powers. So she IS a plant girl...hmm no wonder the air around her smells so nice, she probably has all the same chemicals in her that flowers use. Hmm if I ever want romance I should probably look elsewhere, besides the fact that we live together and that MUST be frowned upon, there's always the possibility she could seduce me and her kiss would be poison. He chuckled at his own batman joke before deciding he was glad he didn't tell anyone, he wasn't sure how many people here would be fans of batman...
Will didn't want to follow Selena around but regardless he didn't sit in the room for long before he was bored out of his gourd, after a moment of thinking he realized where he wanted to go. A school this big and nice MUST have a pool...quite a nice change of place from that hell hole...I mean why of all the high schools to not have pools, would there be one in the middle of the desert? Oh but wait...Selena said she was going to get some sun...where better to do that than the pool? There's water there too. He began to wonder what she would look in a bathing suit, but before his brain strayed too far from reality and decency he shook his now-red face. No no no! I have had enough excitement for my first day here already...besides she said she apparently has anger problems...I don't plan on getting strangled by vines. Liam figured Selena had enough of a lead that he shouldn't run into her by now, so he decided to take a walk. As soon as he left the room he heard a loud thump and cursing from above his head, probably somebody on the second floor not getting along as well as he and Selena had...and then another thump? "Hm...guess no matter where you go, there's always trouble in paradise, especially where multi-cultural adolescents are involved." Will stretched his arms and put them behind his head, wondering if Selena was right about this being a place for people like them. Nah...I'm sure the rest of them are just really smart, besides if it's just us that does a lot to explain why we got put in a room together. |
Alicea watched as his hand seemed to turn into metal, her eyes wide. That would have been enough for more, but he felt the need to startle her by smashing the cold cup of water, making her jump from the shock. He was weird too!? She wasn't the only freak then? But... his seemed to be a lot cooler. A fist of steel, or whatever it was, was a heck of a lot more incredible than the ability to make water get hot or cold. Because as far as she knew it was only water, she had never tried with anything else. He offered her his jacket, and she took it, draping it over her shoulders. Then he said something, well, stupid honestly.
"There, you seem cold. Also you're not the only one with powers, I have some too." That much had been obvious from his demonstration. She was impressed and scared and jealous all at once. They had powers, so why did he get the cool, flashy, and impressive one? Oh, she could make a cup of water boil, big deal. She sighed softly and closed her eyes. Why was she feeling like this? Until five seconds ago she had been all alone in this, and here was a friendly boy that also understood what was going on. Which made her think. What if there were more freaks like them out there? What if... Everyone had powers they were keeping a secret? Maybe it wasn't so odd... Who knew. "Th-thanks... I wonder... A-are we the only ones that can... That can do weird stuff?" she asked timidly, wondering just what his thoughts on the matter were. She was scared of what the answer might be, be it they were unique, or that they were not. This was maddening, but she had to keep her calm. She had to know the truth. |
I awoke rather peacefully, not too worried about time spent in here. I allowed the room to change back to normal, and sighed. "If only I could be here forever." I said, "But just being alone would drive me crazy." I stretched a bit, and began materializing into my dorm room.
In reality (a name I had given to the actual world) I stretched. It always took my senses a few minutes to return, and since I never wore my glasses when leaving reality, I couldn't see very well when my senses did return. Obliviously I walked to the blurred outline of my desk and put my glasses on. I turned on my laptop and turned around, to see the other occupant of my room. I began to panic, "Had she seen me?" I said to myself aloud frantically. "Maybe she didn't, wait is she my roommate?" I ranted, "A she? Roommate, maybe it's one of those female looking guys like in anime..." I was pretty surprised, though upon thinking about it, there were no rules against it. "Maybe I should ask her?" I coughed once to clear my throat, then walked up to her. Are you my roommate? I thought in my mind, saying nothing out loud. |
Selena Bravo & Ginevra Morrigan - Loungejoint post with Mac It was no problem for Selena as she was able to settle in her room with her roommate, Liam. He kindly gave her the bed with the most sunlight, and allowed her the bathroom to herself. But it was pretty awkward at the same time, she would much rather share the room with a boy, and wouldn't mind sharing everything...even a bathroom. Why make things so difficult? After the spat with her roommate, Ginny had went out to the main hall to look around. They won't learn what I can do until absolutely necessary. I'm not a show-- Her thoughts were interrupted when a girl bumped right into her and quickly apologized. As Selena starts to walk around the lounge, she noticed a lot of rays of sun shining upon the students that were lounging. Selena got distracted, as she witnessed an incredible light that attracted her. Being a plant herself, she loves the light after all. Suddenly she crashed onto someone, bumping head on towards someone else's. She didn't see where she was going. It was a red-haired girl with baby blue eyes. Selena shook her head to calm herself from the pain, but she looked upon the girl. “Oh God...I'm so, so, so, sorry!” She apologized. The minute the girl bumped into her and then stayed in her personal space caused Ginevra to take a deep breath. There was some sort of electricity between then and she managed a quick, "Oh, it's fine..." Her eyes cast only slightly down at her and she smiled and used both hands to pat her on the shoulder, "It's all a bit distracting here, now isn't it?" Her accent had calmed down a little since she was no longer angry, but it still screamed American Deep South. Selena, already having a run-in with someone, did not want her first day of school to start off worst. It was a good thing that she accepted her apology...quick. It was odd for Selena to hear that, as the people she knew were too stubborn to apologize. But, that girl, she looked beautiful. Selena would absolutely do anything to be her. Her red hair was like fire, and her clothing was something she saw in a magazine. And that accent...God knew where that came from too. It was for certain that she came from a wealthy family. "I'm Ginevra Morrigan. You can call me Ginny, if you like." She noticed that they were still close, but she decided to leave the decision to move back up to the other girl to see what she would do. Besides, it was much more fun this way. Selena's eyes locked on the girl, as she introduced herself. The accent was still something she can't recognize. She couldn't think of a response, all she wanted to do was leave...but that would be rude, especially to where she's coming from. Her name was Ginevra, Ginevra Morrigan. It was more likely an American name. Probably the first American Selena has ever encountered in her life. After she brushed Selena's shoulders with her both hands, she stuttered a bit when she opened her mouth to talk. “I'm...I'm Selena.” Her eyes were still locked on her's. “Everything around here is too distracting.” |
Ginny softly smiled as took Selena’s hand in what she hoped wasn’t an overly friendly gesture, “Then, let’s go outside then, perhaps? I love the outdoors… I often take either morning or evening runs. At my previous school, I was on the Cross Country team.” Her long legs showed that she enjoyed it as they were toned and firm. Gently, she led Selena outside into the sunlight. |
Matthias & Kevin – Room 3 Matthias' lips parted in an excited little grin, clapping his hands together as he slid from the windowsill, stretching out again. "Alright, brilliant. I'm sure it shouldn't be that difficult. I'm thinking that since the headmaster is out, we might be able to sneak a peek at his office, maybe there are some kind of files or papers the-" He paused mid-sentence as the jolt of lightning erupted from Kevin's phone, touching his hand, leaving the phone black. Matthias stared at the phone and Kevin, blinking his eyes a few times, unsure of what had just happened, before he snapped back to reality. "Whoa, hey! Are you okay? What the heck just happened?" Kevin bowed his head and sighed, there was no point denying what happened or trying to cover it up in some elaborate lie. Matthias had seen it all. “I might as well tell you the truth about me Matthias. You see … I have some kind of ability. To be honest I’m not really sure what it is, and I’m not sure if I want to find out either. It seems to be that I react to anything powered by electricity. I first noticed it back in high school when I could feel like … energy pumped through me, I didn’t know what it was at the time and I just kind of shrugged it off. That was until one night when my parents and I got into a huge argument, I stormed off to my room and I set my hands on the TV set that I had there. In a split second the whole thing exploded, sending bits of plastic and glass through the air, that’s how I got this scar under my eye. As far as I can tell, the more aggravated or upset I am, the less control I have over this ability and generally it becomes a lot more powerful then too. So for the past while I’ve been trying to cover this up, that’s why I didn’t tell you about it when I first met you, I didn’t want you to have a different view of me just because I have some weird ability.” During Kevin's explanation, Matthias simply stared at him with raised brows and a completely dumbfounded, surprised face, having to keep himself from going "Whhhhhhaaaaaaaaa....?". Or at least, that's how it felt inside of him. He'd never met anyone who had... an ability of some kind. Reaction to electricity? Not the weirdest he could imagine. "... Really? Holy s... crap, man. So you could, like... hold a lightbulb and it would be turned on?" After Kevin had finally finished explaining to Matthias about his ‘ability’, the best thing Matthias responded with was asking him if he could power a light bulb. Kevin smiled and let out a slight laugh. “As basic as that might be, yeah … I could probably power a light bulb. Not sure why you’d want someone carrying around a light bulb though.” Much to Kevin’s surprise Matthias took this rather well, considering most people would freak out if they heard they were sharing a room with a human battery and because of this Kevin felt a bit more relaxed and managed to crack a smile. “You know, you don’t seem too phased by this, most people at this point would probably ring a mental institute.” Matthias let out a slight laugh as Kevin kind of put him on the spot. He realized that any regular person would be a little more... worried, about someone near them displaying some kind of mutant, superhero-esque powers, but considering Matthias himself had them... he felt more intrigued and... oddly enough, hopeful, than ever. "Well you know, if you ever needed to go into a dark cupboard or something and you don't have a flashlight at hand, obviously!" He gave another little grin before letting himself dump down on his own bed, facing Kevin as he raised a hand, brushing his fingers through the blue tufts of hair on top of his head. "Yeah, uh... that might be because... well, I've got some kind of ability as well. Here, take a look." Matthias glanced around the room for something to show Kevin what he meant, and he soon decided to kick off one of his shoes. Staring down at his shoe for a moment, he placed his hands on either side of himself on his bed, and slowly, the shoe was raised up in the air, moving up to eyeheight of the boys, Matthias breaking into a grin while the shoe slowly started rotating around itself. "... So yeah. I can move stuff around with my mind. Not bad for a power, eh?" “Wow … A floating shoe now there’s something you don’t see every day. That’s amazing!”. Kevin continued to watch in amazement as an object which is supposed to be affected by gravity, rotated around in front of him, like it was being dangled on a string. “Okay wow hang on … That means you have an ability as well! I seriously thought there was no-one like me.” Kevin cracked a smile before continuing. “Okay then, so much like my light bulb, I’m pretty sure a floating shoe isn’t exactly helpful. How big an item can you lift exactly?” Matthias gave a little shrug as he raised his foot into the air, the shoe lowering down and slipping onto said foot, the boy lowering it to wedge his heel into the shoe completely. "Honestly? I don't really know. I've been practicing for... well, a long time now, but it always seems to vary. Kinda depends on my mood as well, like with yours. Anger kinda makes it go... a little crazy." He gave an awkward grin in an attempt at making it sound less of an issue than it was. "I don't know, erh... I think I could do a chair or a table. Though if a table, it wouldn't be moving very fast, honestly. Smaller things, I can lift more at once and I can make them move pretty quickly." Leaning back on the bed, Matthias looked up at the ceiling, resting on his elbows now as he let out a little snicker. "I think we figured out what kind of school this is, exactly. Or it'd be a huge coincidence if this -wasn't- a place for people with abilities. Really though? I'm... kind of relieved I'm not the only one with this stuff hovering over my head." He looked over at Kevin, giving him a genuinely, almost thankful smile. As Matthias lay on his bed relaxing, Kevin started to really think about what he said. “I think your onto something there buddy. So that’s two people already that we know have some kind of power. That’s you and I, okay so look at it like this, there are what, a handful of students here? All from different parts of the world. It makes sense now, look at the amount of people in Denmark and the people in Ireland. Ok so out of all of the people in both those countries did you hear of one other person from your country coming here? I know I didn’t, look at the scale of things. We were one person among millions of others and we came out on top. I think this school picked us for our talents. I could safely bet we’re not the only ones around here with powers." Matthias nodded his head agreeingly. "Yeah, definitely. But the questions still remain; How did they find out about us, how long have they been keeping a tab on us, and what are we -doing- here? Sure, it might just be to help us train our powers or whatever, but it might as well be an agency or something training us to be some kind of superforce, or the governments trying to keep us in check." As he lay, thinking about the possibilities, he eventually let out a little huff, sitting up again, leaning forwards and placing his arms on his legs. "... I think trying to find out about why we're here is a bit dangerous on the first day. Even if the headmaster is out. Let's give it a bit of time, and we'll try to figure out why we're here, sound like a plan?" He offered Kevin another grin, seeming almost as excited at the prospect of both being around others with abilities, and the idea of some kind of conspiracy or the like, as a kid was christmas morning. That was a good question, how did this school know about Kevin? It probably explains how he got in no questions asked, because of his ability not so much his school grades. “Yeah, sneaking around on the first day isn’t exactly the best idea. Considering the fact that anything that’s electrical would probably break if I got near it, even the lights! But then of course I have my light bulb to light up the place” Kevin started to laugh at the ridiculous idea of carrying around a light bulb as he stood up and walked over towards the window that Matthias had opened not too long ago. He felt the cool breeze hit his face as he stood directly in front of the window. “You know if it does turn out that were not actually the only one with powers, well let’s just say it’s going to be a crazy time here!” Letting out a laugh as well, Matthias shook his head at the joke now coming back to bite him in the arse regarding the lightbulb. He looked up as Kevin walked over to the window, looking out over the lush, green school grounds. "You know, I think you're right. Sounds like a pretty fun time, doesn't it?" He rolled his shoulders and pushed himself to a stand, giving Kevin's shoulder a mixture of a pat and a smack with his palm. "So, what do you plan on doing before the lessons start? I'm of half a mind to head out into the lounge or have a walk outside, take a look around, maybe bump into someone else." “Uhh, I’m not really sure what to do, as long as it’s not swimming. Although I wouldn’t mind going for walk, might help me clear my head, you know take in everything that’s just happened. Yeah I think I might do that, you’re free to come along if you like?” Kevin now turned around and removed the bag he was still carrying around after they thought sneaking into the head masters office was a good idea. He also zipped down his jacket and tied it around his waist, a t-shirt was the choice of attire for today not a jacket. “So what are you planning on doing?” "I think I'll take a little walk-around myself, see if I can find someone interesting-looking to get into a conversation with. Maybe kind of figure out if we really -are- the only ones with abilities around here." Matthias gave Kevin a smile before jabbing a thumb back at his suitcase. "Think I'll handle my clothes first, real quick though, so you go on ahead. It was great meeting you, Kevin! I'm sure it'll be alot of fun being room mates." He smiled and raised a fist for Kevin to meet with his own in a fist bump. Kevin pushed his fist in and met Matthias' with a fist bump. Kevin gave Matthias a smile and he soon turned and was on his way out, however he stopped right at the door. “Oh before I forget, you do know Matthias you just fist pumped a guy who managed to short circuit his phone from a small jolt of electricity in his hands just a few minutes ago? You’re lucky you didn’t get the same shock if not worse from a fist pump.” Kevin waited a few seconds, letting silence fall over the room. “Anyways I’ll see you later dude”. Kevin smiled as he headed towards the door and this time headed out for real and closed the door out behind him. Matthias looked back at Kevin, realization overtaking him before a grin played on his lips again, calling out after the other guy. "Yeah, well maybe I like to live life dangerously. See you later, Kevin!" He raised a hand and gave him a sloppy salute as the door shut behind the boy, leaving Matthias in the now rather welcoming-feeling room. |
Will tuned out as much of the nearby noises as he could and stopped really even paying much attention to where he was going. If there really are other people with unique powers here, I wonder what they can do. It would be awesome if there was somebody who could manipulate matter with their mind, hell there's already a plant girl, maybe there's a mermaid too! Hmm...that might put a damper on my plans to be the school's best swimmer...but at least there's no way anybody could beat me at accuracy, if they have an archery range here I'm gonna be famous. He noted everything had gotten a lot quiter, people must be beginning to genuinely settle in. Out of nowhere Liam yawned Oh man...jet lag is a *****...maybe I should have just taken a nap...but there's so many new things to see! Who has time for sleep in a place as amazing as this?
Will continued to walk down the hallway, being equally as impressed by the decorum as he was the first time. Wow...I've never even lived in a two story house before...how does someone even make the kind of money it takes for something like this? Will stopped short when he heard the only voice at the school that was familiar to him yet. Ah what the hell? I thought Selena was supposed to go get some sun, now she's gonna think I followed her and-hummana hummana hummana BABEALICIOUS! Liam was too sunned by the sight before him to even notice the fact that the word babealicious had polluted his brain. Selena was talking to what must have been the most gorgeous girl he had ever seen, curves, legs for miles, that face, those clothes, and she was only a few inches shorter than him even! Her hair...it's the most beautiful shade of red I've ever seen...I think sunsets might be dead to me...is she real or is my sight so powerful it can make my subconcious desires reality? Liam un-googlied his eyes and focused them when he realized Selena was talking to Dream woman O'beautiful McGorgeous-maiden and there was just a teensy eensy bit of tension in the air, y'know? The kind that makes your hair stand up on end, electricity crackle in the air, and some people find themselves compelled to repeat the fabled chant of "Cat Fight!" And "Rip off her shirt!" or "Wrestle in some mud!" And sometimes...uh...where was I? Oh yeah, Will had already seen an angry girl with special powers once today and had absolutely NO intention of dealing with another one, especially if it was directed right at him. Will wished his talent was ultimate ninjatude as he tried to edge his way past the girls. It turned out he completely misread the situation when they...Held hands? And walked to the entrance, he froze mid-sneak and just stared as they stood there for a moment talking, then held hands again and walked the rest of the way out. So they're THOSE kind of girls...I can't decide if that makes things more or less awkward...well on the upside that makes it easier not to think about Selena that way, maybe we could even stay up at night and talk about how hot other girls are. The thought made him burst out laughing like a moron, so hard in fact that he slumped against the wall and slid onto his ass. Haha, well that certainly narrows my options for girls around here but at least I got a good chuckle out of it. |
Nathan looked at Alicea. She seemed to be surprised and scared at his power. Just like all the others. All of them were fearing him for his powers, they did everything he asked and were even afraid of telling this to their own parents because they thought he would kill them. And he only needed friends. But they worshiped and feared him and that made him become a lone boy whose only purpose and only friend is the training. He used to train very hard until he could attain a higher level of control on his power. And he still does now because his level isn't exactly satisfying for him. |
Nathan definitely did not seem too impressed by her initial fright and envy. Who could blame him. If she saw someone react like that when she used her powers, she would be very sad and angry. The Texan girl sighed a bit and looked down as he spoke, seeming a bit depressed.
"There's a possibility of this. I guess that would be great to know that I'm not the only one who got gifted." She nodded at his words. Realistically if two of them had powers, then more of them would. Her mind began to spin, there had to be more people like her and Nathan! What if there were a whole lot of them? What if she wasn't alone? Though, gift wasn't the word she would use to describe her talent. More like nightmare. She had hidden it from everyone as best she could. But if there were more... More people to understand how she felt... And it would seem nathan was thinking the same thing. "I think only these people would understand how we feel. At least I have you, so that's ok." Somehow, his last words made her blush very hard. Her face turned a bright pink and she looked up at him curiously, wondering what he thought of her. he couldn't believe he had just said that. Her heart was pounding in her chet and she shook her head. He had to mean he had her as a friend. She was still kind of overwhelmed though, even at that, because she didn't have many friends. Especially boys. "Y-yeah... W-we're friends... And w-we have to find out more about these... Gifts..." she said softly, her eyes lowering back down. Her words betrayed her joy at having a friend for once, and she smiled shyly at her new room mate. It was certainly going to be an interesting year. |
exposition with a dash of cinnamonShe blinks at the sound of movement originating from the other side of the room. She had noticed another bed in the vicinity of that direction during her arrival, but hadn't paid much attention to it or its surroundings at the time. The movement, she observes, is caused by a dark-skinned youth; though she estimates him to actually be slightly older than she is, his height, appearance, and general presence are all unimpressive. She watches his approach with some curiosity. Despite his lanky appearance, he doesn't exhibit any signs of being particularly devoted to physical activity; maybe it's a metabolic trait? His perception seems to be a bit muddled, she thinks, and moreso than the loss of what are evidently his spectacles would inflict, as the slight inaccuracy in his movements even after putting on his lenses can testify to. Strangely enough, although her expectation of him being the person to initiate conversation is met by his voluntary approach, he is entirely silent after doing so; so she takes it upon herself - with a barely internalized sigh - to do so. "Good morning." She pauses a little after the greeting, giving him another window of opportunity to carry out what she believes to be the prerogative of the male party. What she hears in response is a little ... well, actually, very brusque ("Are you a really a female?"). She doesn't have a proper response for the seemingly ridiculous question - what, did he think that she was some sort of cross-dressing effeminate boy? - but realizes, after a moment, that it is likely a side-effect of his impaired vision, and resolves to withhold judgment for the present. "Yes, I'm a girl. Your confusion is understandable, and I'm not sure what the administration is thinking either, but I'm sure it will work out eventually." She smiles encouragingly, and inclines her head in a gesture of politeness, nudging him towards more civil conversation. "My name is Cecily; Cecily Glenham. Would it be convenient for you to introduce yourself?" |
Selena Bravo & Ginevra Morrigan - Outsidejoint post with Mac Without hesitation, Selena held Ginny's hand once again...feeling the natural softness she had. She wished she'd had that type of skin all the time, but it was all depending on her H2O intake. Her heart began to beat, her eyes began to lock onto Ginny's. What was that feeling? "So you're from Alabama? The United States?" She asked. Obviously she knew about the fact that she was American, but a beautiful one. She only wanted to ask once again just to carry on the conversation, and to hear her speak that interesting accent. I can't with that accent right now, if she speaks once again, I am going to drive nuts! She thought to herself, I have no idea what I'm feeling right now. This is insane. But I can't help the fact that she is absolutely perfect! Their hands touched and Ginevra once again felt a horde of butterflies in her stomach as she intertwined her fingers with the other girl. Her eyes met Selena's and a slightly nervous smile built upon her lips. "Yeah, I'm from Alabama in the US. It's a whole different world here." Her eyes stayed focused on the other girl's and she unconsciously took a step forward so that they were almost touching as their hands stayed together. Her senses came back to her and she darted her eyes to look around, frowning a bit as she noticed that people were watching them. "Uh..." Her face flushed as red as her hair and she tugged on Selena's hand, "Can we go somewhere where we don't have... an audience?" She was still quite embarrassed at all of the staring and she urged her friend further along the path away from the pool, "Looks like we can talk there in a more private setting..." "Okay..." it was the response Selena gave her quickly. Of course, she wanted to get to know the girl a little more. She refused to let go of her hand, it was as soft as it could be. Being alone with her was probably the only thing she wanted to do. They both stopped at a tall tree which was distant from the students, and the swimming pool. It was the most private around the back part of the school building. No one was around, everything was just quiet. Both of them stopped behind the tree, facing the old-fashioned gate that enclosed the whole school. Selena turned to Ginny, who was blushing constantly, she immediately smiled as she placed her right arm on the tree. By the touch of the tree, she gained chlorophyll, which made her mood calm, and made her extremely confident. The leaves on the tree turned into a brighter green, thanks to the touch. Things were happening quickly, and Ginevra didn't seem to mind one bit as she and Selena found an isolated area of the school to talk. Her eyes followed Selena's movements and she raised a brow as the girl touched the tree. She didn't notice anything too strange, except that she seemed to have decided something. What that something was soon revealed as they drew close. But, there wasn't so much to talk about. Selena was too caught up with Ginny. She pulled close to Ginny, without saying one word, eyes locked since they day they met. Selena's feelings were out of control, out of proportion. It was something she could no longer handle anymore. The tip of the nose touched her's and her lips were only a few short inches away. The feel of the other girl against her caused Ginny to blush even further and as their nose touched and their lips were barely parted, she could tell that neither of them could hold back any longer. Without a word, she broke the distance between their lips and allowed them to press, enjoying the sensation of kissing those sensuous lips. The taste was divine and unlike anyone she had ever kissed before, even though it hadn't been too many, she just knew this was different. Both of her hands mingled with Selena's as she held herself close and in her mind, she knew that she never wanted to part from this perfect moment, this perfect first kiss. |
Riley Dauth Riley opened his eyes again. Where was he? Still in a bed, and the ceiling looked different. There were definitely no glow stars mounted on there. He had those bloody things since he was a kid and he was hellbent on taking them with him when he moved to America, even though his parents thought he got too old for them. But damnit, he had Uranus, he had Saturn, he had meteors, and entire constellations of stars on his ceiling. He liked to look at them at night. They were kinda weird. They made the ceiling disappear at night. “Dad, did you take off my bloody...” Riley shot up, and did a quick retake of the room. There was another bed to his left, on the windowside. And when he looked outside, he saw what looked very little like the Californian arid highland town he lived in. He crashed back down on the bed. Gilded Halls, in the land of the Poms. Remember, damnit. He went for his still open trolley case and got his mobile phone out. The time was still set to pacific, so he adjusted that, and concluded he had slept, eurgh, long enough, he guessed. Right. He still wasn't barged in on by his potential roommate. Riley wasn't sure whether he should be happy about that or feel kind of pathetic, because judging from the noises in the nearby rooms, everybody else had met their roomies already. Maybe he should go for a walk about the campus. The lessons still wouldn't start, otherwise he'd have been woken up by the bell. In fact, Riley had counted on it he'd nap long enough to be waken up by the bell, but if such weren't the case, then it enticed him to get up, and go for a walk. There was a library to the right side of the entrance hall, right? He thought there was. He could go check them out. Maybe they had Kurt Vonnegut, Philip Pullman, or, oh yes, maybe they had Edgar Allan Poe. No library can call itself a library without some Poe. Excited by the idea to check out the library's inventory of books (he certainly loved books) he got himself to stand up and rush out the door. He pulled the hem of his plaid shirt straight and made sure the collar was all nice and even again. His hair was okay, he guessed. He entered the lounge again, and shut the door behind him. Diagonally across the lounge, he spotted another student. Hair of a bluey, and combed hastily to the side. Maybe he could swallow his social anxiety and talk, but...real people were kinda scary. Still, he knew this school was for some special kinds of people. Elements 101, yeah, what did that even mean? Riley knew his own kind of speciality was his shapeshifting or was it his English. He wasn't quite so sure anymore, but this school was special, and everyone had to be special in a way, which meant they weren't total douches like in high school. Were they? God, why was he still standing and staring like this? Do something, you stupid idiot, he thought. Riley put up his hand and waved. “Hi there, diagonal neighbour!” he put his hands into his pocket and walked through the lounge, mostly keeping to the side. Diagonal neighbour? Seriously? Maybe he'd just wave back, and he could go to the library by himself, or maybe he just elicited him to talk to him. His eyes peered at the boy, and Riley pondered. |
Kevin Blake - Room 3 Kevin stood right outside his room door trying to gather his thoughts and make sense of what just happened. “Wow, everything's going so fast. I already have a roommate, he has a special ability like me and I’m a student here at this fancy school. Talk about a lucky break.” Kevin’s thoughts were interrupted as he spotted something moving just across the lounge. He looked over and saw a boy exiting his room just across from him. He had medium length brown hair and roughly looked to be about the same height as Kevin but at this distance there was no being positive. Even though the boy seen Kevin, no words were uttered, just an awkward stare. Finally the boy extended his arm up and waved across at Kevin, “Hi there, diagonal neighbour!” Kevin smiled and returned a friendly wave as the boy now trudged along through the lounge, oddly keeping mostly to the side. “Seems like an alright guy, everyone so far seems friendly enough”. Kevin then proceeded to exit the dorm and arrive outside into the glorious heat. The majestic blue sky only littered with a light cloud here and there.“Now where should I walk to?” Kevin mumbled as he pulled out his map. “Ah there seems to be some gardens not far from here. That might be nice to walk around in”. Kevin stuffed his map back into his pocket and headed off walking. To Kevin walking was a way for him to calm down and relax, although not that he needed to calm down or relax right now, but today he was walking to get his thoughts in order. Meeting someone else who had an ability was crazy, something which he’d never thought would happen and then there was his own power. Strangely for the first time ever, he felt okay with it, almost like he accepted it. Looking down at his hand and clenching it Kevin wondered if he could control it? Matthias seemed to have a good grasp of his ability, could Kevin do the same? Would it be possible to decided when to activate his ability and when to stop it? The path on which Kevin walked on started to become quieter and more secluded, less students up this end of the school. It was peaceful, quiet. “Perhaps I could come here more often. I like it here". He finally reached the gardens. The aroma filled the air and the flowers littered the garden in an abundance of amazing colors. Kevin inhaled deeply and smiled, he walked over to a small patch of grass near the flowers, lay down and closed his eyes. Before he knew it, he started drifting into a snooze. |
Matthias Winston - Residence Building Matthias stretched out as he had flipped over his suitcase and opened it, peering down at the various clothes he had packed. He was trying to internally get over the shock, surprise and relief of finding someone else with an ability. He was afraid that he’d been the only one and often times while sitting at home, he’d wondered if he really and truly were the only one who had something like this. Not… quite a ‘problem’ per se, but something unique. It was a huge weight off his shoulders to know that Kevin also had an ability. And was a pretty cool guy to boot. He took a moment to stare down at the clothes before shaking his head. Who the hell had time to sort out clothes? He was at what was going to be his new home for quite a long time, he could sort that out whenever. Maybe he could still catch Kevin on his way out… He turned and made a dash for it, pushing the door open and shutting it behind him, running through the lounge to try and catch up with his room mate, taking a sharp left around the corner which led down the small step and onto the pathway outside of the residence-building. However, he hadn’t calculated there being someone else that had just turned the corner as well, and as such, Matthias slammed firmly into their side as he tried to come to a skidding, stumbling halt, almost knocking the both of them over and at the very least, sending Matthias stumbling off to the side, almost falling over. He winced at the small jab of pain from knocking into the guy, quickly turning to him to check if he was alright while raising his hands in an almost defensive manner. “Whoa, hey! Sorry about that! Should’ve seen where I was going. You okay, man?” |
Nathan smiled a little when he saw Alicea blush from his words. Actually this was the first time, he saw a girl blush from what he said. He didn't know why but this made him happy. Then something popped in his mind. What if she was blushing because of she thought he meant she was his girlfriend. Well, a girlfriend isn't something exactly bad but this was happening a little fast or maybe he was just imagining things. Yeah, that had to be his imagination playing tricks on him. He lifted his eyes and saw Alicea who looked joyous. Why would she be happy? Is it because of what I said? |
"Wait a moment!" I said out loud to myself in astounded revelation. "Just a moment ago, I think I said nothing. Which means she started this conversation..." I ranted to myself, embarrassed. "I have messed up already, forgetting the order of my actions." I sighed to calm myself down and rubbed my head, "It is of no consequence though. I will simply restart the conversation." Though immediately I snapped my fingers in disappointment, "But that doesn't work in Reality, it only works in Marrow."
After another stream of pointless arguments with myself, I realized I had forgotten my reasoning. "Hello Cecily, or wait does she prefer Glenham-Sama? Do I add an honorific in this country?" The last two questions were directed at myself, though I decided to deal with them later, preferring to answer her questions. "I thank you for not taking offense to my... uh, confusion. I am generally ignorant to a lot of social practices in Reality. Since you have very kindly asked my name, I shall give that to you. My name is Marquis Withrow, genius programmer, hacker, and traveler." The traveler part was only half true, I only really went to conventions and countries with a lot of technology. Even then it would only be a day or two. Regardless I gave a bow, something I believed to be common in this country. "By your distinguished grammar and general politeness, would it be safe to assume you are of the scholarly variety?" |
Great, somehow she freaked him out. He was looking at her like she was nuts. Again. But after she spoke he seemed to brighten up. Somehow she had made him feel more comfortable. That was good. She... Felt it would be better to have a room mate that was comfortable, rather than awkward or angry. His gaze was... Rather off putting for her, since she had never seen someone looking at HER that way. No, that look was reserved for someone that wasn't shy or sullen, as she had been described.
"This may be irrelevant to our discussion and you may have heard that a lot but I have to say you're amazingly beautiful!" And those words made her freeze. Was he joking? She... Was nothing special. Just another girl honestly. She had no stylist, no designer cloths anymore, just what she could do herself. Still, the compliment was appreciated, and blush very deeply. She wasn't used to compliments, especially not from someone of the opposite gender. She wanted to hide her face she was so red. "M-mai goodness... Th-thank ya... Th-that's... Naice..." she said, her voice shaking, her accent rolling off her tongue, making her words sound very weird and odd, especially given how she mumbled them. She turned her eyes on him briefly, then looked away again, not sure what else to say. |
Riley Dauth & Matthias Winston Riley felt he just lucked that conversation out. The student just waved back and walked on. Well, another succesful interaction with another human being, he supposed. The kid went on to leave the lounge for a walk outside. Riley had to go that way too, so he decided to take it slowly, not wanting to overtake him or make him feel like he was following him. That'd be just creepy. He was just near the door and forgot to watch his back. From the same room, probably the roommate of the bluey, another kid rushed out. An unfortunate collision and both the teenagers stumbled. Riley rubbed his nape and held the wall for support on time to keep him from falling. He couldn't be more bloody careful? He thought. Or, actually, the kid really didn't do it on purpose. He raised his hands, profusely excused himself for crashing into him, and asked him if he was okay. “Yeah, she'll be apples,” Riley muttered. He looked the boy over. He was, well, kinda taller than him, not by much. His hair was dark, kind of highlighting towards blue if you looked at it with the right light, which was either because of his really dark melanine or the slick gel in his hair that pulled the fringe up into a spikey crest. “Yourself?” “She'll be...?” Matthias blinked in slight confusion at the saying that he had never heard before. He quickly recovered by nodding his head in reply to the guy's question, giving an apologetic little smile. “Yeah, I'm alright, thanks. I didn't mean to bump into you like that, sorry.” He offered a hand for a shake as a kind of means to apologize. “Kinda crazy day we're all having here, huh? I'm Matthias. Nice to meet you.” Riley took the boy's hand, who introduced himself as Matthias, and gave it a firm shake. “Riley,” he replied. He could agree that today was rather hectic, starting at an entirely new school and all, it was sure to be a hell of a trip to stay here. And it -was- also quite a privilege to be here. He was sure there were only a dozen people here, more or less. Yet, it seemed like Matthias was referring to something a little crazier than just going to a boarding school. Also, what was so confusing about what he said earlier? She'll be apples. That's just fine, right? He looked the other way and avoided pressing on about it. “I was just about to head off to the library, by the way,” Riley passively added. This new guy, Riley, seemed a little confused about Matthias' confusion, but he didn't pursue it. Matthias figured that if they both seemed to think they understood each other, there wasn't any reason to ask. He did, however, get slightly curious as to why the guy was heading to the library in the main room. “The library, eh? What's happening there? Or are you just checking it out, out of curiosity?” “Right, curiosity,” Riley responded, “I just figured I still had time to browse through their selection before the first class.” He paused and turned towards the door. His glance returned to Matthias. “Uhm, I don't know if you're the reading type, but care to come along?” Matthias took a moment to think, glancing off to the side, across the green fields of the school before shrugging and giving a smile at Riley. “Sure, count me in, if you don't mind. Maybe we can find something interesting there, you know? I was just planning on having a walk anyway, but this seems just a bit more interesting.” Riley smiled. If the kid was interested in reading, there was just no way he could be awful. At least, that's the way it went in Palo Cedro. Bloody redneck Seppos, the lot of them. They walked outside onto the outdoors path that connected Valiant house with the main building. He felt he had to keep the conversation going somehow in the silent interludes. “So, you've met your roommate already? Any first thoughts about the Gilded Halls?” Matthias stretched his right arm over his head, arching his back a little before tucking both hands into his pocket, walking nearly alongside Riley while giving the guy a couple of glances. He looked like a pretty nice guy, definitely didn't seem like a jerk. “Yeah, I have. Pretty cool guy, honestly. This place is... well, interesting. It's woken up my curiosity, that's for sure. I've never been to a college or somewhere, where you live at the school before, so that's already exciting, but... there's something special about this place. I dunno, just seems weird that a bunch of kids from around the world get thrown into this same place together. Don't you think so?” He turned his head slightly, giving Riley a curious look, though in all honesty, he was trying to peg if Riley himself knew about what this place -really- was. Riley took a double take of Matthias's words, let them slowly sink in, and then he just had to try not to panick. Give a sensible answer, and don't mention -that- directly, he thought. Matthias was right. Given his accent, he had to be a Scando, or something of the sorts, and he himself was an American-Australian, and whatever other nationalities were present in this school, in freaking England? “It's odd, to say the least,” Riley admitted. He pocketed his hands and walked along with Matthias. The main building was just a short pace from here. “You also saw the schedule for today? Elements 101, any idea what that's supposed to mean?” he piqued Matthias. They went through the doors and entered the hallways of the west wing. There was one other student at the end. “I, uhm, I don't know what to think of it yet.” Riley gave a cursory glance to Matthias. He could keep it secret if he coaxed it out of him, right? As they stepped inside of the main building, Matthias nodded softly to Riley's words, staring ahead of himself somewhat thoughfully. “No clue what that's about. I figured it was something sciency, you know, periodic table and stuff, but... no, it just seems... different. And I don't know about you, but -I- didn't do anything outstanding for me to be asked by a school in England of all places to be one of like... ten, fifteen students? There's something else to it. Something's made them want to pull the lot of us together for some reason. What do you figure?” He returned Riley's glance, raising his brows slightly while still seeming rather casual with his hands in his pockets and his general posture. “I don't know...” Riley shook his head. He lied. He knew damn well what went on, but wanted to play this stupid. Stupid. Stupid. “I wrote a teen novel that made it on the market with a minor publisher, but that doesn't count. There's plenty of teen authors out there.” He bit his lower lip, and either he was gonna squeeze it between his teeth until it broke, or he was gonna tell him what he honestly thought made them want him here. In any way, he felt sick to the stomach just thinking of it, and he wanted to run back, and pretend it never happened. He hanged his head low, almost hiding behind the shoulders. “Can you please keep this a secret but...” he sighed, “I can, uhm, turn my shape into that of an animal, if I focus on it.” Riley shut his eyes. This was reliving an awkward moment for him, when he told Lazlow, 8 years ago. He wrenched one back open and stared at Matthias like a condemned man waiting for the executioner's axe. Part two soon. Do remember, there is a part two after this. I swear, if you barge in right -now- it will mean part two makes no sense anymore, and that makes kittens cry. |
"This may be irrelevant to our discussion and you may have heard that a lot but I have to say you're amazingly beautiful!" |
Matthias & Riley - Library “Whoa, you did? That's pretty damn cool!” Matthias was genuinely impressed that this guy had actually written a book that got published, and a pang of jealousy shot through him. It was quickly ignored, however, as Riley began fidgeting and seemed unsure of something. Matthias was sure what it was, since it'd been what he had been fishing after for a few minutes now, but even as the boy told him his secret, Matthias was forced to stop, placing a hand on the other guy's shoulder to get him to stop as well. “Whoa, hold the phone there. You can... change -shape-?” He'd expected him to have an ability, but a shape-shifter? That was -really- cool. “Dude, that's -amazing-! I mean, erh...” He cleared his throat quietly, raising a hand to rub the back of his neck. “Yeah... I figured you had an ability of some kind, heh. I can move things around with my mind, and I found out that my room mate has some kind of... electricity-control, even if he doesn't have alot of control for it. So yeah, I think we've figured out what the school's used for, eh?” He gave him a little grin before shrugging his shoulders. “Don't worry though. If you don't want me to tell anybody, I won't. Still though... shape-shifting? That's one hell of a cool ability.” He peered over at the boy seemingly sitting in the middle of the hallway, not far off before looking back at Riley with an excited, curious look in his eyes. “... Care to show me, when we get to the library?” Riley stammered but could barely even produce a single coherent syllable at the time. He knew he could trust that he'd not be seen as the freakish loner who spends his entire time inside reading and writing books and having a keen interest in Sartre and Kierkegaard instead of Jay-Z and Justin Bieber, but even acceptance down to his ability? He was in a bloody school where everyone was just -that- kind of special like him? “You're just like me, you mean? You should show me yours too, really. I mean, yours must be so convenient,” he crawled back out of his shell again, putting his head level again. He was just so damn glad that he was talking to someone who understood him, and could put a hand on his shoulder and tell him he was just okay with it. Oh god, was he getting misty eyed again? But it was the kind of utter relief this time. It certainly was. “I, yeah, I guess I can show you in the library. I, uhm, I can only take on a couple of forms. It takes a ridiculous amount of time to learn a new one,” he explained. Moreover, it'd take around 2 hours, more or less, before he could re-use his powers. He probably wouldn't need it though. Well, he better not keep him waiting. “Let's go then.” "Yeah, let's." Matthias gave another smile as they continued down the hallway, waiting for them to be past the guy sitting on the floor, seemingly zoned out, before speaking again. The look on Riley's face after Matthias had admitted to his ability... he wasn't sure why, but it just made him... happy, to see the guy acting like he did. It felt good making someone feel like they weren't alone in the world. After all, he should know about that. “Yeah, it's... convenient, I suppose. You know, reaching something far away, not having to get up to grab something, I guess. But when you can only really do it in the confines of your home, there's not alot -to do-, really. I've known about the thing for... I dunno, ten years now? It's taken a long time of practicing to get to where I am, but... I'm pretty happy with it. I could've gotten a really crappy ability if I were unlucky. Like being able to smell everything around you really well.” He gave a playful grin and gave Riley a little nudge with his elbow. “... Feels good being able to talk about it, doesn't it?” Riley could not agree more with what Matthias said. “It's definitely great to talk about it,” he said, and then pondered over Matthias's story. It was hard to keep his own ability secret and still put some practice to it just as well. Though geography was at his side, that, and there were farms hidden by conifers all around. The two had passed through the entrance hall and were now in the library. The shelves were stocked full of books of various thicknesses, genres, authors, all sorted by letter and the types of books per aisle. The place was quiet, and just the right place to show off either ability. Books were easy to use one's mind grabbing on, right? “I've known mine since I was 7. Finding out was an awkward story...” Riley chuckled. Maybe some other time. “Practicing it is kinda difficult for me too. Ya know, it's not like you can hide it that well when you're turning into an animal, and the people in my town might get confused if they see a kangaroo hopping in the middle of California,” he sighed. It did give him an idea on what form to show him. Matthias let out a laugh at Riley's joke about the kangaroo, grinning to himself as he took a little walk around the main bit of the library, their words giving an ever so slight bit of echo. "Yeah... I know what you mean. Finding out wasn't exactly a... good experience, let me say." He shook his head slightly before turning to his new friend, folding his arms across his chest with a smile. "So, need anything... specific to transform? Like... uhm, I dunno, enough space or something?" “Oh, no worries I can do just fine with this amount of space, just have to concentrate. Uhm, just a heads up, I can't talk once it's complete...ya know, for obvious reasons,” Riley warned Matthias. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He conjured up the image of an eastern grey kangaroo in his mind: Macropus Giganteus. He had all the finest details of the creature in his head: Greytone fur, the oblong ears, with white inner ear fluff and black tips, long muzzle, brown round eyes, dark stripes down the muzzle, and cream on the lips, then down the neck, chest. As he conjured the thoughts up, his form began to manifest. His skeletal structure changed, and his ears shifted shape as the cartilage shifted. Fur appeared over his face and migrated down to his chest. His hands turned into paws, each with a black claw at the end of them. A thick tail sprouted from the end of his spine, and grew to a long conical shape, a big mass of muscle that slouched onto the ground and tapered into a black tip. His clothing dissipiated for his wooly fur, and his hips began to widen, replaced by strong kangaroo ones. His metatarsal bones must have elongated to thrice the normal length and taped into a pair of dangerous looking claws. His arms looked a lot shorter than normal though. A muzzle appeared on his face, and his nose was covered with fine hairs, save for the black outlines on his nostrils. He could not break his concentration now. Just a little more. The fur turned up all around now, and the transformation slowed to a final form: a kangaroo. Down to a pinch. He opened his dark brown eyes and looked at Matthias. He was definitely taller than him now, because he only stood at 5'4'' at best. Riley looked over his body, and grunted happily. The transformation was complete. Matthias had taken a small step back to watch the transformation, which was completed in a matter of moments, and during it, he simply stared with wide eyes and an amazed look on his face. Once it was completed and the kangaroo that had taken Riley's place let out a little grunt, Matthias took a step closer, looking him over. "... Holy sh*t, man. This is absolutely amazing! I mean, I'd have imagined a housecat or a dog or something, but this is... Jesus, I've never even seen a kangaroo in real life before!" He gave a bright grin and clapped his hands together once, which echoed softly through the room. "So hey, uh... don't freak out when I do this, but I just gotta..." He reached out with his hand and slowly brushed his fingers down along his shoulder and side, feeling the short fur of the animal before letting out a laugh and stepping back. "Wow. That's just unbelievable. You've got my respect, that's for damn sure." Riley, now a kangaroo, looked at Matthias with a bit of pride at his reaction. He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth, the only kind of vocalisations he could bring out now. His internal structure had also shifted around. His stomach: two chambers, and his throat, well, it lacked a proper human voice box now. His field of vision was considerably wider, and his hearing senses felt a lot more acute. He could easily radiate his ears and distinguish the origins of a sound more precisely. He stared at the bewildered teenager and didn't flinch when he approached him and ran a hand through his fur. He didn't exactly mind the brushing against his fur. Actually it felt really good. He could really understand why animals just love it when people do this, though wasn't sure if he should be embarrassed or proud to have stunned him like that, but either way, his face bloomed behind his fur. |
She kind of looked down, cursing herself for letting her thick accent slip. Damn it, she was better than that! All those speech classes down the drain! Bother, she would have to work on that. She gave him a very shy smile, which froze at her next words.
"No, that's just the truth. I already feel this year is gonna be great especially if I'm spending it with you. I think you're a great person!" were his words. They made her heart flutter with unknown feelings, which made her a bit quieter. She was confused about all this, and lost, not sure what to think. It was so obvious he liked her, and she liked him. But she wouldn't say it. Surely he would find someone prettier than she. Still, he made her feel like she was worth some attention now. Shy as she was, she had to admit it made her feel special to have someone fawning over her for a change. So her next words were spoken with just a little bit more volume, letting him kind of hear her soft, musical voice a little. Wyell thanks. Tha's ver-ie naice... Er..." she said, fumbling for words again, trying to sound like a normal person as she spoke. "I-I mean... I appreciate it... I hope... Tha' this yier is... N-nice..." She sighed some, still struggling to enunciate her words properly. Confound it all, why did he make her stutter and stammer like this? How had he made her forget all about her lessons to help her sound more proper? This was absurd, she couldn't even talk right anymore she was so flustered! Uhg... She needed to calm down. She got to her feet and stood up, and walked with slow even steps to the sink, getting another cup. "Y-ya wan' some watah?" she asked softly, wincing internally at just how rough she sounded right now, proceeding to fill a cup for herself and drink it, an attempt to regain her composure. That was the benefit of her power, her water was always as cold or as warm as she wanted it to be. |
He never knew that his words would touch Alicea so much. She was quiet after he said them and looked a little confused. Maybe because no one was brave enough to tell her that she looked amazing. Sometimes, he wondered why some boys were so idiots. They were losing their heads on artificial girls who wore lots of makeup and weren't natural at all instead of being interested in the shy and quiet girls who were naturally beautiful. He complimented himself for not being one of these idiotic boys. No, he liked natural girls just like Alicea. |
Liam's laughter faded into a light chuckle and finally stopped. Oh humor, your the only thing that keeps me sane...especially in the face of gorgeous girls sending red waves of a steamy nature when I'm trying to walk through the damn hall and muddling my brain with their friggin'-STOP! No more brain waves of that kind! When he snapped out of his 'trance' he heard footsteps and saw two guys walking on towards the library, considering which side of him they were one he must have been zoning out like a mental patient when they passed. Great first impression Will...just get lost in your own brain, THAT'll make everyone in the school love you, especially the ladie-nope! no going there again. Realizing he was going to think himself to death if he didn't DO something, Will jumped up and walked towards the library, it'd be nice to talk to some other guys, and even if they weren't all that nice or interesting, he could delve into a good book. He needed to get his mind off of Selena and what's-her-beautiful face, he wasn't used to thinking about girls this much, it fogged his brain...they just HAD to room him with a girl...but at least she was nice.
Will walked into the Library and marveled at how huge the bookcases were and the pure volume of knowledge and stories that must be stored there. His love of books was quickly overshadowed by something much more significant, something that froze him midway through the Library doorway and his pupils contract to pinpoints. After a moment of awe his pupils reversed their previous decision and expanded until the irises that were the only thing about his body he was proud of were practically gone. "A Kangaroo?!? Awesome!" He ran over to the kangaroo and the boy with....blue hair? Ah who cares there's a. "Kangaroo! Wow what's a Kangaroo doing in England, and a library no less?!? Is he our librarian? I can't believe-wait a minute..." He turned towards the boy, up till then he had really been talking just out loud while he stared at the Kangaroo and resisted the urge to pet it. "You came in here with another guy...is he...oh my...cool! This really is a school for kids with unique talents! So, what's yours?" In all the excitement he had forgotten to even ask his name. |
Kevin Blake - Room 3 Kevin raised his back up of the grass and sat up rubbing his eyes in an attempt to wake himself up that little bit quicker. “How long have I been out for?” thought Kevin as he looked around. The weather itself didn’t seem to change much nor did the brightness of the sun, so he could only safely assume he didn’t stay sleeping for too long. Looking around the garden, it was still only him that was present. As he sat staring at the flowers, the same thought kept entering his head. “My roommate can control his power, but I can’t! Why can’t I control my power?” Looking around once again and seeing that no-one was around, Kevin raised himself up onto his feet and placed his hands down by his side and decided it was time. To a stranger, his hands looked about as normal as anyone else’s. However he knew that pulsing through his body was electricity, he was filled with the stuff, it was like a second bloodstream, but alas he had no idea how to project this energy out by himself. This was it. This was going to be the first time Kevin had ever tried to use his power on purpose. He knew very little about his ability, other than he can interact or break electrical items if he’s not careful. Taking another quick look around and making note than no-one was watching. Kevin stood up straight, closed his eyes, left his hands dangling by his side and concentrated as hard as he could. With his teeth clenching, his eyes slammed shut, his hands now into fists and the veins and muscles on his arms more predominant with this intense concentration, however after holding this for a few seconds nothing happened. Not a spark, nor a flash. Relaxing his body and letting out a massive breath of air, he fell down to his knees exhausted. Clenching his forehead in his hand, he breathed deeply as he sat down on the grass. Kevin decided to have a second attempt however, this time rather than exerting massive amounts of strain and pressure, Kevin decided to relax and focus. The garden was perfect for this, there was no noise, no interruptions, just Kevin by himself. He closed his eyes a second time and decided to hold his hands out in front of him. Focusing as sharply as he could, listening to the gentle sounds around him and clearing his mind of all distractions, he could now feel the energy building inside him, still he remained calm and collected. With his hands out in front of him, Kevin decided to give them a sharp push away from himself. As if it was like lightning a match, Kevin opened his eyes and his jaw dropped to see that his two hands were now wreathed in blue lightning. The lightning which jumped around his hands looked weak, probably about enough to give someone an electric shock at best, but nevertheless it worked! Kevin managed to successfully activate his power by himself. With another swift movement of his hands the lightning disappeared, his hands returning to their normal state as if the lightning was never there. Shocked at this turn of events, Kevin jumped up onto his feet and charged out of the garden, almost like he was competing in a race of some kind. |
She was still grappling with her feelings as she drank a bit more water, kind of nervous and shaking a bit as well. She poured a bit more water into her up and drank the cool refreshing liquid s she could have a bit more time to regain her composure. He also chose to speak again, but this time his voice was a bit shaky as well.
"I wouldn't mind it. Thanks!" Her back was turned, so she couldn't see his face, but she could tell he was blushing, kind of nervous now. Oh my god, she had scared him! Great job there Alicea, she was making him nervous. Slowly she reached a hand over and grabbed a second cup and filled it up, turning and walking towards him, offering it. She didn't know why, but she had to say it. "H-he-ya, Th-this is it... Do ya w-wan' it cold or h-hot?" she asked weakly, blushing and looking away. The water itself was a bit tepid, kind of in between. Neither cold or hot at all. "Ah-Ah mean... Ah can make it cooluh or h-hottuh with ma powuh... or somethin'" she mumbled softly. not making eye contact. She needed some fresh air, pronto! Maybe she could take a walk for a while and then come back later on in the evening |
Now, Nathan really didn't know what to say. The girl was shaking, he never knew she was that shy. Nathan thought that was a good thing seeing she wouldn't be one of those cheap girls that were going out with every men they can find as long as he gives a little money. No, Alicea was a special one and he was glad to be the first one to discover how great she was. That made him smile. He was glad to have met such a girl and suddenly, his only need was to keep a smile on her face. |
a little light perplexityShe is taken aback by the verbal outburst, instinctively initializing hypercognition in an attempt to gather together something coherent from the unintelligible torrent of information. The results returned are quite enlightening; within fifteen or so seconds, she manages to collect a plethora of details about her current conversational partner's irregular behaviour, and is considerably relieved. His confusion seems to have come from his apparent disorientation applied as a side effect after the conclusion of some sort of activity, which had involved exposure to multiple cultures and / or languages simultaneously - well, something like that, she thinks. Differentiation between perceived reality and an imagined reality, maybe? ... In any case, I think I've managed to get a good grasp on the type of pupils this institution has collected, though I'm not entirely sure I agree with their philosophy of ranking specialization significantly above conduct and refinement. In the meantime, however, she must deal with the individual in front of her. She frowns a little, almost imperceptibly, and engages in the gradual detachment of herself from the conversation, having now ascertained the eccentricity of her roommate. "No, it's fine, really - I think I am a rather typical member of the educated class in terms of behaviour, so I'm sure it will be perfectly fine if you simply hold yourself to that standard. Pleasant meeting you, Mr. Withrow." Her smile has a light hint of patronage about it. "I hope we will be able to co-inhabit this residence peacefully in the future; naturally I shall afford you all due respect, and I trust that you will do the same." Though she hasn't stated it outright, her tone makes it fairly clear that she considers the conversation - at least at the current stage in time - to be at an end. "I hope that there will be a future opportunity for us to speak together." |
I bowed slightly, respectively, "No need for honorifics towards me, just Withrow or Marquis is perfectly fine." I continued, trying my best not to digress, "I promise to be a well mannered and clean room mate. Though you may not see me much, I don't fancy sharing a room with the opposite gender, it makes me nervous. Thus, if you ever need my services, assistance, or presence." I walked over to my computer and opened up a word document. "Simply type the words, return to reality. And I will come back."
I was just about finished when I remembered one other thing, "Also, although I'm not physically here, I still require my clothes and a place to change. I must finally suggest refraining from changing in front of this laptop, or turning it off if you can help it." I bowed once more, "I apologize for my nature." I felt my stomach rumble, "I'm so hungry." I said to myself, "I think I left my wallet in Marrow too." I looked at my phone distraught, my tampering reduced the battery significantly, it was at 2%. "Surely I will get stuck if I attempt to retrieve it." I couldn't bear to leave my phone alone here, but I also couldn't just go and get free food. "Hm, maybe a walk would help me. I could organize my thoughts and get some sun." I tranquilly walked out of the room, "I hope you enjoy the school Glenham-Sama!" I called out the door. I walked outside with my hands in my pockets. "I wonder where I should walk to." I said out loud, "It's like getting lost in New York." I said looking around, "Well except quieter, smaller, and much less crowded. I suppose this is nothing like New York." I walked over to some trees and laid against one, looking at the leaves, alternating between looking at them with my normal eyes and glasses. "Looking at you without my glasses doesn't seem to do you much justice." I said to the tree, "You always look less green without them. Though I must say no tree I could ever make in Marrow could compare to Reality." I sat patiently for twenty minutes, looking sorrowfully at the rustling leaves, "Maybe I'm too far gone to make friends in reality." I concluded, closing my eyes, "Sleeping is the same in both at least." |

Alicea smiled softly at him as he got concerned about her well being. Sure, it was odd to have someone concerned for her, but it made her feel kind of special. He seemed very kind and nice, and the way he smiled at her made her feel all shy and embarrassed, as well as nervous, happy, flustered, and a host of other emotions. She had never felt like this before. She was still standing there, holding the water out as he smiled at her.
"It's good as it is. Besides you shouldn't abuse of your power. I know from experience that if you try to push it too far, you'll be in trouble. So rest a bit instead. I wouldn't you to be sick. Thanks though." Yes, he was definitely concerned about her getting sick. But that had not happened to her. She was kind of curious about how far she could push her powers honestly. But she didn't know how to tell him that. So she just kind of looked down and nodded. "Ah guess yer raight... Ah'll try an' relax ah suppose..." she mumbled softly, just kind of waiting for him to take the water. Her heart was pounding in her chest. Yes, she needed some fresh air. She needed to try and relax, seriously. But ir was kind of hard, just standing there next to him, it made her heart flutter even thinking about him. This was moving so fast. |

Nathan really meant the words he said. He was deeply concerned about her well-being. First time we met and I already have feelings for her. Great work Nathan, great work.. But that was a good thing seeing that his mind wasn't bothered day and night with thoughts of his parents. Talking of them, he was kind of surprised that they didn't try to contact him to know if he settled well. Even though, he was used to it, it kind of saddened him to know he was unimportant to his parents. He shook his head, chasing these thoughts from his mind. If he kept thinking about them, he would only suffer even more. |
Kevin Blake - Lounge Kevin continued to charge through the school grounds like a wild animal of some sort. He ran as fast as he could back down the path he walked on not that long ago. With all his frantic running, Kevin seemingly took a wrong turn somewhere and now found himself running through an area which contained a pool. As he looked ahead he could see a boy sitting out lounging on a sunbed just beside the pool. As Kevin frantically ran past him, “Hey there nice to meet you” was all Kevin got out, although judging by the speed at which he was running, one could only assume what the guy heard was just a slur of words. Working his way back onto the main path, Valiant House was visible and was just ahead. Kevin started to slow himself down before coming to a complete stop before heading inside. Working his way across the lounge he stood outside his room door once again. In his excitement he forgot about his previous worry of breaking the machine on the door, he slotted his card into it and headed inside, without any trouble of course. The door closed behind him once again and he stepped further into the room. “Hey dude guess what I …”. Looking around he noticed Matthias was nowhere to be seen. The only evidence of his last activity inside the room was a half opened suitcase. Unsure of what to do now, Kevin slumped himself down on the bed and stared at the ground. His face was suddenly hit with a cool breeze, looking up he could see that Matthias forgot to close the window when he left. Climbing back up onto his feet and with one elbow slouched lazily on the sill, he looked out the window and smiled. It was such a warm day, so hot in fact that once Kevin felt the heat hit him again, he removed the tied up jacket from his waist and threw it on the bed. Looking over at the bed once he removed his jacket he noticed the phone that seemed to be broke due to his earlier incident. Walking over, picking it up and pressing a few buttons quickly revealed that it was indeed non-functional. Flicking open the back and removing the battery, everything seemed to be okay. All the components looked to be okay, and there were no obvious signs of damage. Unknowingly to Kevin, he was holding the battery by the metal connectors. All of a sudden he could feel his arm go weak, like it was being held to tight and the blood stopped flowing. Breaking the connection between his hand and the battery by opening his hand, he could fell himself slowly become tired and worn out. His eyes began to feel heavy and his body was starting to go limp. “I need to get some water!” Kevin began to slowly walk towards his front door, steadying himself as he went along. He reached the door, pulled the handle and headed out of the room once again. |
Evan and Dom – By the Pool
Dom and Evan were sitting by the pool. The morning was bright and beautiful, and enough to take Evan's mind off dark thoughts. With their legs in the water they discussed more cheerful things all while listening to summer sounds and watching clouds roll by. Dom lay down with his hands behind his head, with his prosthetic arm clinking as it made contact with the pool tiles. Evan looked on as Dom's metal legs sparkled like the surface of the pool glistening in the sun. It was brilliant, reflecting both sunbeams and its own reflection upon the water. When he reached out and took the water, he may have thought nothing of it, but his hand brushed against hers. It was innocent and harmless, but it made her heart beat faster. The poor girl was so incredibly flustered. And to his credit he didn't make a big deal of it.
"Ah it was perfect. Thanks a lot Ali! You don't mind if I nickname you Ali, do you?" Apparently he was thinking more about giving her a nickname. A Nickname? Hm... Well, Ali didn't sound too bad. Ali. Alley. She shrugged, not bothered by it either way. She looked at him and give another very shy, timid smile. "Th-tha' sounds kinda naice... A-awright Nathan... Yuh cane call me Ali ifin yuh wont." she said softly, looking out the window. She then walked to her bed and sat down, pulling out her map. It looked like there were some pools. She hadn't been swimming in a very long time, or maybe the garden... Or the library. Something to do today, on the first day. Or maybe she could just stay and keep talking to Nathan. "U-um... Yuh wont ta g-go check out thuh school?" she asked meekly, not wanting to go by herself and get lost. Or maybe it was just an excuse to spend more time with her room mate. Who knew with her. All she knew is she didn't want to walk around all alone. |
I couldn't bring myself to sleep comfortably against the tree, I kept feeling paranoid about ants crawling on me. "Pestering fiends!" I muttered, "I can't even tell if you are really there." I occasionally swept areas where I felt like there was something crawling on me, though it seemed like it was everywhere and it made me feel uncomfortable. I stood up annoyed, "I can't go back to the room, she might want some privacy. Though I could go to the library and hide out in a terminal or wire." Just the thought of being in Marrow made me feel happy. I began walking toward the building, and stepped inside.
There were students walking around, so I had to resort to simple walking. I really wanted to travel by wire, yet I couldn't risk giving myself away. So I walked the halls drunkenly, feeling sick by my restrictions. I was also lost, I hardly knew the school be heart, and I never bothered to grab a map. Luckily there were signs that gave me direction, and after walking for more time than I should have, I made it to the library. Other students were here too, though I had to ignore them, as I was too restless to actually pay attention. I went to a computer terminal that was as far back as possible and looked around frantically. When everything was clear, I entered, Inside the terminal was typical of a school computer, five locked doors and three open ones. Any attempt at opening the locked ones would result in an alarm going off, or worse, the tech department finding out about me. I would be seen as a virus, and would be in too much danger. The three unlocked doors were Internet access, public and student files, and miscellaneous applications such as paint or dropbox. From what I knew about school computers, at least two of the five locked doors were student records, and one was access to moderator control. I made one custom door, it would allow me access to the power cord if needed, and entered the internet door. Unfortunately school internet is normally tracked and restricted, and it takes effort to remove this fact. The only way to completely remove it is to enter the moderator door, which could be any one of the five. My method is very simply to follow the restrictions. This is the safest way to remain undetected. The internet in my eyes is a very large place to navigate. Simply imagining the website I want to go to is enough to take me there. Though finding unspecific places is very difficult as each building represents a website, with a floor representing a page, and a room representing a specific area or link on that page. Going here blind is dangerous, and I have gotten lost on two occasions. The sky here is full of letters and numbers, representing the code transfers between websites along with things such as emails or video streaming. I went to a forum where I discussed writing. Forum buildings are hardest to navigate as the number of floors change constantly with each time a moderator adds or removes a section, and even then there are seemingly endless numbers of doors on each floor, each entering their own thread. It became to overwhelming that I had to create a system. I created an elevator, inside had each floor with the section name. Then after selecting my floor, I can reduce doors by date created, name, or other things. My interests were in the basement, the floor where member data was stored. Specifically I went to check my own profile. My profile was a room with a few pictures I had posted on the walls and a large touchscreen that acted as my way of interacting. Two new messages by the same person, odd enough since I normally didn't personally associate with other members. Though I realized both messages were by the same person. "AneMoeSW" I read the name out loud, "Who is that?" Without reading the message, I opened up her profile to see that this person didn't show many private information and that although not a newcomer, she posted infrequently. Needless to say, it didn't seem like this person was someone who had something to say to me, though my curiosity was peaked. It read, Hello Withrow-Sama, This is Hailey Halwit, this website is the only one I've been told you frequent. I just wanted to ask if you remembered my name at all? The second message was exactly the same, it must have been a network glitch. I thought hard about the name, but it didn't even sound familiar. I sent a reply, I'm sorry, but I don't recall the name, though it is probably because you have the wrong person lol. I was about to leave, seeing no new comments on my threads, though I got a reply almost instantly. Are you Marquis Withrow? The one who doesn't give his first name? I read the question twice, there were no other people I'd seen or met who fit that description, so this person must have been talking about me. Though I was more surprised that the person knew I didn't use my first name. That is indeed me, but how did you know I don't use my first name? I sent. We used to be friends before you moved a long time ago. I got as a reply. "But I never moved..." I said out loud, "I'd always lived in that town right..." I'm sorry, but I don't remember moving at any time in my life, nor do I remember having friends. I sent confused. Well I'm sorry to bother you then, but please IM me if you happen to remember. She placed her username for an IM service, which I look a mental note of. I then left the building and the internet. I returned to Reality and decided to find a book to read. 'How could I remember something that never happened." I muttered, yet I couldn't shake the feeling that it was probably true. |
Riley Dauth Riley snapped out of his thoughts, as hypnotically good as having somebody actually stroke his fur was. Really, how could pets -not- get addicted to being pet all day? No wonder why his cat cuddled up to him like that and licked his face under if he scratched her behind her ears. The reason he snapped out of his thoughts was more immediate than that though. The boy they walked past in the hallways entered the library, and he obviously had taken notice of Matthias and himself. Now there were two people in this school who knew of his power. He hoped there'd not be any more. This was torment to his social anxiety. The kid seemed more excited than shocked and he was talking just about all over the place. If he could ever just finish a sentence– Librarian? What I am not the librarian! Riley thought. He could try to say it out loud, but he knew he'd just reduce his thoughts to cucking noises. Of course, the boy put 2 and 2 together and figured it was the same guy who walked down the hallway with Matthias. Riley's mind gazed off elsewhere. He wasn't exactly valuable to the conversation if he couldn't talk, and he couldn't speak American Sign Language, nor British, nor whatever other dialects of sign language exist. Maybe writing could work, even if it were difficult with his thumbs. They weren't exactly opposable, but they were apposable, which was kind of a downgrade of his normal human thumbs, and made it feel more like a really thick but short extra finger. He could also just turn back, but that'd be a bloody waste of all the effort he put into shapeshifting. He excused himself from the two boys – with which he meant that he outright turned tail and hopped away – and went to look for Philip Pullman in the shelves. |
Nathan felt his whole body melt another when she flashed that shy and timid smile of hers. Was she making it on purpose just for the sake of driving him crazy? Because that girl knew how to get his heart to beat faster than no one could. Just her smile could break any resistance he could potentially have inside of him. Whatever this girl asked, he would do it for her, just to see her smile, to see her happiness. And that's when she asked if he wanted to visit the school with her. He was quick to give an answer. |
Will didn't know all that much about the facial expressions of Kangaroos, but the shapeshifting student got a look to him that made Will feel he was irritated probably from him running off at the mouth. He was about to apologize when the Kangaroo simply turned around and hopped away among the bookshelves. I know he's a person but...can he read while he's an animal? I wonder if it changes his brain at all. Since the shapeshifter was gone Liam turned to the boy with the bluish hair. "Sorry about that...I'm lazy myself but my brain seems to be hyperactive, besides the fact that IT never shut's up even when I do, there's always at least one song stuck in my head. For the sake of not rambling, and being polite i have three things to ask you, what's your name? What's HIS name? And if I may ask, what is your ability? Because mine is pretty lame." When he asked the boy's name he held out his hand in greeting.

Selena Bravo & Ginevra Morrigan - Outsidejoint post with Mac She wasn't sure whether it was the okay thing to do or not. But Ginny took it. She took the kiss from Selena, giving her the signal that it was alright. Selena wasn't even interested in girls! Ginny was the first girl to have kissed, and it was definitely out of random. She was straight, had only interest in boys. It was a feeling deep, deep inside of her that she could be bicurious. Suddenly, Selena pulled back, tasting the lip gloss Ginny had on her lips. She showed an awkward look on her face. "Oh, man...I'm sorry." she said, "I have no idea what I was doing. I...I...wow..." She blushed, her cheeks turning as red as possible, turning her face away from Ginny. Butterflies inside of her stomach were out of control, scattered everywhere inside. She leaned against the tree and took another glance at Ginny once more. Ginny had gotten her taste and she took a step to follow Selena, "No need to apologize..." Her heart was racing and she could feel the other girl pressed up against her. Her hands maneuvered along the girl's body, pausing at her hips before she leaned in for another kiss, this time with more passion and none of the timidness of the earlier one. "Wow, you don't mind it at all. I actually like that." Selena smiled at Ginny, she also brushed her hair back to see her clear face once more. The chlorophyll inside of her body made her tingle just a bit, as she was leaning on the tree. A branch of blossoms bloomed right on top of the girls, all by Selena, but she didn't notice it. Even the slightest of blooms are unnoticeable things Selena has with her ability. The feeling spread through her body and she knew that this was exactly what she wanted. Before, she had only kissed girls or even boys, so this was all new to her but she knew that she didn't want to stop. After the second kiss, she broke contact enough to whisper, "I want you..." Selena wrapped her arms around Ginny, "I...want you too. I really do. I...I..." She couldn't think of any other word to say. All she wanted to do was to have Ginny in her arms. That last kiss made her feel weak, and if she received another she'd grow weaker and fall onto the grass. Selena finally gave in and kissed Ginny once more. |
Matthias Winston - Library Matthias grinned as he looked over the now-kangaroo boy, opening his mouth to say something to him, as another boy, the one they'd passed in the hall on their way here, burst into the library, causing both him and Riley to freeze in place, staring at the guy who quite quickly puzzled together that Riley was the boy from before, and seemed... quite eager to know more. Blinking his eyes in dumbfound surprise, Matthias managed to look up at Riley as if silently asking him 'Should we tell him or pretend?'. However, not being very good at reading kangaroo body language, Matthias simply watched as he grunted and turned around, hopping over to the nearest bookcase, seemingly looking at the backs of the books for something. Matthias turned back to the guy who now continued to blather away, leaving him to raise a hand, scratching the back of his head, and as the boy finally managed to squeeze out three questions from his ramble, Matthias couldn't help but give a little grin at his eagerness. ".. Well, I suppose there isn't much point in hiding it, and it looks like majority of people here have figured this out on their own... I'm Matthias." He jabbed a thumb over at the kangaroo looking for reading material. "That's Riley, who I just met. And my ability is... well..." He glanced over at a nearby table where a stack of books were lying, furrowing his brow as he raised a hand slowly towards it, causing one of the books it lift up into the air, moving closer to the two of them, whereafter he let it hover at an angle over his palm, slowly spinning around itself, paired with a slightly proud and slightly embarrassed little smile. "... I can move things with my mind... or will, or whatever. I'm not sure how it works, but... there you go. So, your turn. What's your name and what can -you- do?" Despite the sudden burst-in of the guy, Matthias couldn't really find it in himself to be angry or annoyed at him, since Riley seemed to give just about zero sh*ts about the event, and he was really rather curious as to what other abilities other people here on the school had. And the guy might be a blabbermouth, but at least he wasn't an a**hole, at least as far as Matthias could tell. |
Evan and Dom – Still by the Pool, but Soon to be Far Away
“Where did you-” Dom looked around frantically. He gasped. “How did you?” |
"Wherever you ask me to go, I will even if it is at the bottom of the world." When he said those words Alicea felt her heart stop for a moment. She literally stopped breathing, her eyes wide, staring at him. Did he really just say that? It stunned her, and made her shake, confused and dazed, and so very flattered. How did he have the power to cause such a reaction in her? She didn't quite know what to make of it. Apparently he saw her shock and put his hand over his mouth, as if he had said something wrong.
"Not in a creepy way though. Sometimes I talk too much, sorry" His apology let her deep in thought. Maybe he was intending to make her blush. Why though? Did he like her the way she liked him? Because she certainly had quite a crush. She nodded absently, her eyes closing some as she looked down. "N-no problem... I's awright..." she mumbled softly, deep in thought. She... had no clue where she wanted to go right now honestly. So maybe she should ask him? He had to have an idea. "W-where did yuh wont tuh go first?" she said meekly. She showed him the map she was holding, letting him pick a destination. |
"Matthias huh? Very nice name, I always liked the name Riley too, ever since I watched the Homeward Bound movies." Will tried not to react when Matthias didn't shake his hand. After all, it's not like my entrance was all that polite, why should I be afforded manners? Will smiled as Matthias floated a book over to them and hovered it over his hand as it spun. "Telekinesis, awesome, I've always wondered what it would look like if it were real." Will's pupil's shrank when Matthias asked what his power was, he never felt like showing anybody, besides the fact that he's a little shy what's so special about eyesight? "Well, my name is William, but you can call me Will, or Liam, and let me say it's nice to meet both of you...I needed to hang out with some guys, let's just say I can't handle anymore excitement from girls right this moment."
Will pulled one of his pebbles out of his pocket and bounced it on his hand as he scanned the bookshelves and planned out what he wanted to do, once he had decided his plan he flicked the pebble mid-bounce with no warning at a speed fast enough for it to go perfectly straight. The pebble shot up to some of the higher shelves and hit a big red book before ricocheting and hitting a smaller blue book and a big black book. All three were hit just right so that they wiggled and fell off their respective book cases. Will quickly caught the pebble as it made it down before the books and bounced it off of the floor, causing it to land on the bottom of one of the books and knock it to a specific place on the floor before bouncing back down and repeating the process with the other two to form a nice neat little pile. Will grinned at the books he had picked out. "Ah, Eldest and The Fellowship of the Ring, two of my favorite fantasies, and a book of Poe...Poems, excellent choice if I do say so myself." He looked at Matthias and rubbed the back of his own head, embarrassed. "I can do a few things, but I don't have any sort of super power or anything. |
Nathan was beating himself mentally for what he just said. The girl was looking at him, shocked. She had her eyes wide. What a bad thing to say! I'm really an idiot it seems. She must be thinking he was a creep that would stalk every move she did. A creep that would follow her everywhere she went. And that must have incredibly lowered his chances of being with her. No, he couldn't let that happen. Whatever it takes, he would be with her because he really liked that girl, more than anyone so far. |
Matthias Winston - Library Matthias didn’t seem to acknowledge the fact that he hadn’t shaken Will’s hand. Quite honestly though, it was more of a case of a lot of things happening at once and him sort of… forgetting it. He smiled and nodded at the introduction of this new guy, continuing to slowly spin the book around over his palm. “Will it is! You can call me… uh, whatever you want, I guess. I don’t really have a lot of people close to me to give me nicknames.” He gave a little grin before raising his brows as the guy pulled out a pebble and looked around the room. As he opened his mouth to ask about it, Will threw the pebble and Matthias watched as it flicked across several of the books, causing them to fall, and in a, quite awesome-looking way, fell into a stack with the pebble landing in Will’s hand. “… Whoa. That’s pretty cool! So you’ve got like… what, you’re able to sense what’ll happen when you do a certain something? Like, calculating the outcome, sort of?” As he asked him this, his right hand’s fingers, beneath the book over his hand, continued to slowly curl in small waves, going from his thumb to his pinky, which seemed to keep the book in motion. It was less of him showing off and seemed a lot more like some kind of training exercise that he’d taught himself to do without thinking about it. |
"Haha, maybe that will change soon enough, Matthias is good for now, I may call you Matt later if I'm lazy or in a rush, we'll see what happens." Will was never really one for showing off but impressing Matthias made him feel really good about himself, just as it did when he showed Selena earlier. No wonder all the athletes and other talented people at school were always such showoffs...it kinda feels good, hope I don't become a prim a donna. He smiled both at his own thoughts and Matthias' words. "Huh...you know, I never really thought of putting words to what I can do before...I always just thought of it as being able to see better than anyone else I knew. I guess you could say I can see really really well, and I can sort of predict what the physical consequences of a specific action will be if I do it, I can't see the future or anything, but I guess I can tell what my movements will cause before I do anything...if that makes sense. And when I concentrate, my body seems to react to what I'm thinking with near perfect precision, only doing what I'm trying and nothing else if I'm not knocked off balance, I can hold my breath a really long time too, almost 5 minutes but I'm not sure what that has to do with the rest of it."
Will was surprised at how good he felt, for once he was proud of what he could do, instead of thinking it was normal or being embarrassed. "To be fair, what I can do seems to be entirely based on concentration...I practically can't even do anything around girls...I'm a little bashful in that area. And it's not just my...special sight that's linked to my concentration, I can't seem to do anything if my thoughts are scrambled. Y'know...it feels really good to talk about it doesn't it? Every minute I'm more and more glad I came here, I think Gilded Halls is gonna turn out to be a wonderful place. I hope we can be friends and I'm looking forward to meeting other students too." Will began to feel like he was running his mouth again so he took a moment to relax his thoughts. "Sorry, I may be lazy but my brain is hyper active, I have a hard time stopping the flow of thoughts." |
Alicea closed her eyes as he looked at the map, waiting for his decision. She was slowly calming down, relaxing. She hoped at some point she would see some horses. She didn't know how to ride one, obviously, but she rather liked horses. And why was she thinking about horses right now!? What was wrong with her? Imagining learning how to ride a horse, riding one with Nathan in the sunlight, just seeing his smile... Her odd, unbidden thoughts were thankfully interrupted by his voice.
"I wouldn't mind the library or the pool." he said. She nodded, thinking. Well, being surrounded by books was all well and good, but she seriously wanted to dive into some nice, cool water, maybe clear her head a bit. And she would get to see him without a shirt on... She shook those thoughts from her head, but didn't move from his side, appearing to think it over. "Wyell... A-ah reckon tha' goin' to thuh pool would be perty naice... H-hang on... I need tuh get muh swimsuit on..." she said, going into her bag and pulling out a nice, large blue towel, a bottle of sunscreen, and her two piece. She walked to the bathroom and closed the door behind her, getting dressed. When she emerged she looked a bit different. She was wearing a rather modest two piece suit, though, as was the nature of most suits, it did nothing to hide her legs, her arms, or her belly. The suit itself was a light blue, which accentuated her pale, alabaster skin. She was just as small and frail as she had been in the dress. The difference being you could actually see her now. Her mousy brown hair was neatly pulled into a short ponytail, letting one actually see her ears, and more of her face. She looked... Well, rather skinny, with not much muscle mass in her arms and legs, but it was rather obvious she was developing into a rather attractive woman, even if she was kind of in that inbetween stage. She sat down on the bed and began to rub sunscreen onto her feet and legs, working up them to her taut belly. "A-ah don't wont tuh get burned... G-gimme a second an' Ah'll be r-ready..." she mumbled, blushing a bit. The sunscreen was fairly sweet smelling, and held that pungent chemical smell that no ammount of perfume could cover up, and it was white, but it went clear as she rubbed it into her skin. It would take a few minutes for her to cover herself, and she also would have to wait for Nathan to get changed as well. |
Matthias Winston - Library “Hey, whatever works for you. I don’t mind nicknames.” He gave another little grin at Will, finally letting the book hover down into his hand, which he grabbed while letting out a little huff. Despite seeming like it didn’t do anything to him, it was clearly not the easiest feat to keep the object in question moving at all times without even looking at it. He then nodded softly in a curious, interested manner as Will explained about his power. Eventually, Matthias grinned, waiting for Will to finish his little rant before tucking one hand into his pocket. “Can’t focus around girls, eh? You sounded like you’d already run into your fair share of troubles with the ones around here. I only noticed a couple of them on my way in, and I heard some shouting while I was getting set in, in my room. Were you having girl troubles then?” He walked over to place the book back onto the table, keeping his attention on Will, but glancing over at Riley the ‘roo, still shuffling about near the bookcase, and Matthias had to shake his head and let out a little chuckle at the ridiculousness of the situation. “It definitely seems like it’s going to be an interesting school to stay at. Can’t wait to see what other abilities the people here have.” |
"Cool, I don't know why but I've always liked nicknames." Will watched the book sink back down into Matthias' hand. "That must take a lot of concentration to do, I'm not sure i could pull it off if it was MY talent, bravo." Will's face started to turn red when Matthias mentioned 'girl troubles' "Well um...not really trouble, we got a long alright but...turns out this place is coed, my roommate is a girl. Also between you and me...it seems like she might..." Will leaned in close and his eyes darted back and forth conspiratorially. "Swing the other way. Of course, I can't complain, I can't really see myself managing to sweep any of the girls around here off their feet, and if there's no chance of her being interested in me it should make it easier to act normally around her...as long as I can forget how stunning she is."
Will realized he may as well put the books back since nobody seemed to be manning the library at the moment. But after looking at them, and then how high up the spots he had gotten them from were he ultimately just set them down on the same table Matthias set his book on. "I'm sure someone will take care of that. Yeah, I feel the same way, it should be interesting meeting anybody, as long as the rest of them are as cool as you I'm sure it'll be great." Will squinted a bit at Riley. "I wonder when he's gonna turn back, must not be all that comfortable looking through books without opposable thumbs." |
Matthias Winston - Library “It used to take a lot out of me, doing really simple stuff, but I found out about it pretty early on, so I’ve had like… ten years of practicing and getting better.” Matthias tucked his hands away in his pockets while listening to Will, his eyes widening a little at the sound of his room mate swinging ‘the other way’. “Whoa, really? Huh… I guess the world’s full of special people, in more than one way. He gave a grin as Will just placed the books on top of the one he’d put down on the table, nodding his head. “Yeah, I’m sure someone’ll put them back in place.” He smiled a little sheepishly as Will called him cool. Despite not caring too much about what others thought of him, it was still… rather nice that one of the people he’d just met thought he was cool. He followed Will’s glance over to Riley, shrugging his shoulders a little. “I dunno, he seems to be getting along really well. And I think he might’ve mentioned only being able to change once every… I dunno, two hours or once every day or something.” He watched Riley Roo for another few moments before shaking his head and looking back at Will. “So! Which part of the world are you from? Anywhere close by? I’m from Denmark myself… if you hadn’t guessed from the accent, heh.” |

Kevin Blake - Classroom 1A Kevin managed to stagger across the lounge and reach the small kitchen which was located there. He reached the sink and quickly poured himself a glass of water, gulping it down and taking a deep breath he could feel his body become rigid again but he still felt tired. He placed the glass back down in the sink and heading back over to his room. Heading inside he could see the phone which lay with its back open and the battery lying just a few feet away from it. “What was all that about? I almost collapsed!” mumbled Kevin. “I need to lie down.” Kevin was just about to get into his bed when a loud alarm rung throughout the school, “What the hell is that?” Looking down he noticed his gift bag, “Maybe there’s something in here?” and sure enough there was a small note which explained that once the bell rang it was time to head to class. Letting out a sigh Kevin grabbed his jacket and his small backpack and once again headed out the door. Fixing his jacket as he headed towards the Valiant House exit, Kevin still felt tired and worn out. Heading outside, a quick flash of the intense sunlight forced Kevin to put his hand up to his eyes in an attempt to shield them. As he continued to walk back towards the main building he thought about all the different people he might meet in this class. Eventually reaching the main building, he headed inside and not having a clue, he wandered about for a few minutes staring at his map before he finally found the room in which he was supposed to be in. “Classroom 1A, here we are!”, as he walked slowly into the classroom he immediately noticed he was the first one there, seizing this opportunity he walked around the room a small bit. Noticing the board he looked up and seen the less than obvious lesson objective. “We are part of nature, nature is part of us. Within each and every person is the ability to control nature, to a limited degree. Choose your beaker wisely. Not every road leads to success.” He looked down at the four beakers which sat just in front of him. There was one filled with water, another with sand, one with a leaf and finally one with a box of matches. Looking around the room he placed his finger just an inch or two above the beaker of water, a small spark jumped from the tip of his finger and hit the water, the water began to ripple a small bit before returning to its idle state. After giving a small smirk he decided to sit down and wait for the rest of the class to arrive. |
→ Jamie Lane ● Fire Quote:
"Er... Do you know what we're doing?" He asked, confused. This was no normal chemistry lesson, he was expecting a periodic table not a lesson in magic and witchcraft. |
The time underneath the tree would never leave Ginny's mind as she shook her hair out to get rid of the petals. A warm smile danced along her flushed features and she was still a bit out of breath from before. "You're amazing." She looked around at the petals a bit and shook her head playfully, "I've never seen anyone able to do what you can do, Selena." Her eyes looked up into Selena's once again and she smiled, "I love it." A joint post by Mac and [supporter]Meganium90[/supporter]. |
Kevin + Jamie - Classroom 1A Kevin sat inside the classroom twiddling his thumbs as he waited for someone to show up. He was beginning to think it was only just him who had shown up to this class, perhaps everyone else had forgot? After waiting for what felt like an hour, but was more like a few minutes, someone else eventually walked through the classroom door. As Kevin raised his head, standing just at the front of the room was a boy with longish brown hair which looked to be in an untidy fashion, much like his own. As far as Kevin could tell he seemed to be intrigued by the beakers at the top of the room, he picked them up and studied them for a second before placing them back down. He then turned to Kevin and spoke, “Er... Do you know what we're doing?" Looking up with a puzzled looked on his face Kevin responded, “Nope, to be honest your guess is as good as mines. Doesn’t help that I can’t make out what the board means either”. "Hmm." Picking up four beakers, one of each type, he made his way over to the boy. "Sounds a bit like a riddle," Jamie suggested, "You don't think they really expect us to be able to do this?" He omitted the fact that he, himself could control sound. Perhaps it wasn't as ludicrous as the intructions suggested. "I'm Jamie, by the way," he added. Seeing that Jamie had picked up one of each beaker, Kevin assumed that each student must have to have one of each beaker to participate in the lesson. Standing up and walking back up to the front desk he himself grabbed one of each beaker and walked back to his seat. He placed the beakers down onto his table and then proceeded to sit back down again. “Jamie huh? I’m Kevin, it’s nice to meet you!” “So then Jamie … how’d you end up here in this school?” Jamie fiddled with the beaker of sand, shaking it around and working out just what he had to do. "Err," he said, trying to avoid the question, "it's a long story. It was this or nothing, really." He shrugged it off, turning his attention to the beaker with a leaf in, "What about you?" Kevin smiled at Jamie’s avoiding of the question. “What’s this guy hiding?” he thought. “Well … I might as well tell you mine then, the brief version that is. I used to cause a lot of trouble back in my old school, parents pulled me out of it and sent me here. That’s about it.” As Kevin stared at the water in his beaker, he was unsure whether he should tell Jamie about his power or not. “Probably best to skim over it for now” Kevin thought. Jamie chuckled, looking up at the boy. "Same old, same old, then," he murmured, drawing out the matches of the final beaker, flicking one against the striking surface. A flame danced on the end of the match, Jamie smiled as it flickered. "They say fire is the element of anger and rage right?" Jamie asked, thinking back to countless films he had seen, "This is gonna be mine then, I bet." Kevin smirked as he slouched back in his chair “Element of anger and rage huh? That depends on the person doesn’t it? Some of us already have our own element of anger and rage.” He was careful not to directly imply he had an ability as he was interested to see if Jamie would catch on. “As for mines, I’ll try this sand. See how it works out for me” Kevin knew there was something different about this Jamie guy, he could see it in his eyes as he watched the flame on the match dance around. He reminded Kevin very much of himself. Jamie raised an eyebrow at Kevin's statement, but otherwise said nothing. His eyes were focused on the flame, trying to summon up some kind of effect in the same way he manipulates sound. He focused, took one deep, slow breath, then mentally commanded the flame. Grow... nothing. The flame looked the same, burning it's way too close to Jamie's finger, he dropped it in to the beaker and drew another. Kevin could see that Jamie was trying to do something with the flame, what he was trying to do was anyone’s guess. Looking down at the sand, Kevin was a bit unsure how he could do anything to it. He picked it up and started to rotate his index finger just above the sand, he had no idea what this would accomplish but he had no idea what else to do. Of course as one would expect nothing happened. Letting out a small sigh, he placed the beaker back down and sat back in his chair again. “So … what have you gotten up to since you got here?” Another match was lit, "Well I met my roommate, that was... great," Jamie's sarcasm was never subtle. "I've had a look around but I spent most of the morning coolin off." He thought back to Ginerva. He would have to share a room with that girl for the entire term, that giant, angry beast of a girl. His eyes narrowed slightly, he averted his gaze from Kevin, just in time to see the match flare up. "Was that me?" He asked Kevin, a slight smile on his lips. Kevin smirked, “I don’t know, you tell me. You did say fire is the element of anger and rage right?” Kevin liked this guy, he was a lot like him. He also couldn’t ignore the fact that deep down he felt corrupt again, almost like he wanted to cause some trouble, but should he? He promised that he would keep his head down this time …. but then again, one little bit of trouble making isn’t going to hurt anyone is it? Just as they were about to continue talking to each other, a girl suddenly entered the room inturrupting the conversation. Kevin watched her as she entered the room and proceeded to slouch down next to Jamie. "Umm ... hi" Kevin introduced himself looking over at her. He also noticed that Jamie seemed to be sitting quite awkwardly. Jamie then leaned forward and looked across at Kevin. "This would be my roommate Ginny". Liam was glad Matthias didn't call him out on his laziness with the books, he didn't know why but he felt bad about mentioning Selena's 'interaction' with the other girl even if he didn't say much. "Hey uh Matthias, think you could do me a favor and not mention what I said about my roommate? She's still adjusting and I don't want her to be embarrassed...And before you ask there's nothing special about her to me, I just can't stand the thought of hurting a girl's feelings. She's beautiful, there's an amazing sweetness in the air around her, and there's something entrancing about her innate connection to nature...but he doesn't need to know that right now, that's her business.
"Oh, well I'm from the United States actually, I was originally born in California, it's beautiful but the laws there have been decaying recently, like the government of the U.S as a whole. The past few years I lived in this do-nothing worthless little town in the middle of the desert that lives in the shadow of Vegas. It's quite a nice change coming here, I always wanted to visit England anyways. So your Danish? I recognized you had a subtle accent, but I had no idea where it's from, the only people from outside the U.S I've ever met were from Germany. I can't help thinking Riley's from Australia...I wonder" Liam was interrupted by a loud ringing echoing clearly through the school. "Well I left my gift bag back in the room, but I've only been going to public schools almost every day since I was 5, I know what a bell at a school means." Will began to make his way out of the Library, not wanting to start his new school year being late. "Alright, see you in class Matthias, I'm glad we talked and it was nice...sort of meeting you too Riley, hey you should totally come into class still a Kangaroo, it'd be hilarious." After he left the Library he didn't bother detouring towards the dorms, he figured he wouldn't need his backpack for the very first class. Besides, Selena might be back by now, and if I talk to her alone right now I might say something stupid, and I don't need to start the first class feeling awkward. Liam walked into the classroom and right away realized he hadn't met anybody who had made it there before him, he was about to try and talk to one of the guys when he noticed the girl Selena had been with was sitting near him. He made a wide arc around them, trying not to risk a look at her gorgeous features and picked a spot on the far side of the room from them before he payed attention to the board. So they didn't mean learning about scientific elements...they meant learning about natural elements...man some of the stuff here is right out of some fantasy story. He was about to get up and take a closer look when the two other guys in the room took one of each beaker. Hm, makes sense. He got up and went to get some beakers of his own when he heard was sounded like flames. He looked back to the two guys and noticed one of them was holding a match with a way over sized flame. "Cool, I wonder what I can do." He spoke out loud but when his gaze strayed towards the girl he quickly turned away and sat back down in his chosen seat. Will sat there staring at each of the beakers, nothing happened so he focused specifically on the one with water in it, he loved water, the way he simply flowed, letting nothing stop it and going around what it couldn't push with no effort, if he could ever think that freely his life would be so much simpler. He focused really hard and imagined the water floating up on to his hand until he had to stop and noticed all the muscles in his neck had tensed up. All the air left his lungs in a whoosh and he laid his head on the desk grumpily. Nothin...oh well I won't be so bored when Matthias get's here...with his ability this stuff should be a snap. He noticed somebody in the room was breathing heavily, when he turned it was quite obvious it was the girl he was avoiding. Chivalry is dead, chivalry is dead chivalry is- "Hey, are you alright? You're not hurt are you?" D'oh! Screw you brain! You've failed me again! |
Ginny smirked as she was introduced by Jamie and she nodded to the boy with him, “Yes, I’m Ginny or Ginevra. I’m just so fortunate to be his roommate.” Her eyes glanced to Jamie and turned to slits, “Who decided to just toss his damned duffel right on top of me, which started a fight. Then he ran away like a baby when I beat him.” She looked from Kevin to Jamie and then towards the beakers, which sparked some curiosity, but not enough to bother getting up. |
Will looked around Ginny instead of AT her as she answered him in an attempt to keep his cool, it didn't help that she had just the right type of down-south accent to her voice. Exercising? Is that what they call it now, I must be a lot more out of shape than I thought. He believed his exoneration from the mistake of making himself known had come when she admitted she wasn't all that much okay. He felt as if his heart was making a desperate escape from his rib cage when she suggested he sit near her, he realized he'd need to focus to calm it down, as well as to keep his composure. He remembered some of the exercises he had learned that were supposed to help him keep his thoughts in line, but he knew himself well enough to realize if he focused an any one thing in the room he'd probably start to ignore Ginevra, so he'd just have to focus on her. When he finally did, smiling casually to keep his face from becoming an intense stare, he found that his heart calmed down and could think mostly clearly.
He sat in one of the nearby chairs and slid it a little closer, to a conversational nearness. "I'm actually kind of surprised to see you looking so worn out, those legs look like they could run for miles." Well THAT was a step in the wrong direction. When she asked him to asked him for help getting to the front of the class he thought maybe keeping his thoughts under control wouldn't be so easy after all. He thought about just giving her his beakers and getting a new set for himself to avoid contact. But...maybe it's not just being tired or sore, maybe she wants somebody to actually treat her nice, doesn't seem like she got along with her roommate all too well, I got lucky with Selena. Besides...could it hurt to have a pretty girl lean on me? Ah screw it, I'm already here, if I can't let go of chivalry I may as well be a knight. Liam gently sat his beakers onto his new desk and stood in front of Ginevra, he bowed and flourished his wrist a bit before placing his hand palm-open in front of her. "Allow me to lead you to your destination my ahem Mi'lady" He actually couldn't help laughing out loud for a moment at his own ridiculousness. "Ah forget it here, you can lean on me if you want, I never could just watch a girl suffer. Oh, um by the way, my name is William, but I also go by Will, or Liam, nice to meet you, Ginevra was it? Very nice name, I've never heard it before." |
Selena Bravo - Room 1 Ginny went on ahead to class, while Selena decided to head back to her room to get her belongings. As a good student herself, she wanted to be prepared for her first lesson. As she waved at Ginny, she opened the door to her room with the card key, and closed the door after her. Immediately, she banged the door with her back and slid down to the floor slowly, not only she felt dehydrated from going outside, but she was also emotionally dehydrated as well. "Oh...my...God...." Liam wasn't there, fortunately. He may have also gone to class as well. The room was a bit messy but that didn't bother Selena at all. She glanced at the jugs of water right in front of her, located right under her bed. She stretched as far as she could to retrieve the one that was half-empty, threw the cap onto Liam's bed and drank the water as if she ran a mile in the heat. Drinking all the water she could, but most of the water dripped to her shirt. In just 10 seconds the jug was empty, and Selena proceeded to drink another one, finishing it whole and in less than half a minute. Afterwards, she stood up and changed clothing. She hasn't unpacked her belongings yet ever since the first time she left the room, but right now it would be the perfect time to change without a boy like Liam intervening. Five minutes later, Selena changed to a green plaid buttoned-up t-shirt, jean shorts, and decided to wear the same leather boots she wore earlier. (click for image) It was a little hot outside, so the outfit was perfect for her to wear later in the afternoon. She accessorized herself with a flower necklace with a yellow gem in the middle, three chain bracelets on the left hand, and hipster-style sunglasses...just to wear something on her head. Her hair stayed the same, leaving it straight down. Selena was ready to go to class. Grabbing a jug of water from under the bed, adding a notebook and a few writing utensils on her large bag and casually walked out of her room, enclosing the door with the card key. Hopefully she wouldn't be late for her very first lesson. |
Matthias Winston – Classroom 1A “Yeah, don’t sweat it. I can keep a secret. Have done so for about ten years now. So as long as you don’t plan on making me wait that long, I think I’ll be fine.” He gave the boy in front of him a little grin, his hands still tucked into his pockets. He understood fully well that William didn’t want to hurt this girl he’d just been moved into the same room with. That’d be incredibly uncomfortable, not to mention pretty mean on his part. Matthias nodded, raising his brows at the fact that the guy seemed to be from California of all places. So practically on the other end of the world for Matthias, coming from such a tiny country as Denmark, compared to the United States. He glanced over at Riley as the conversation led to the kangaroo boy again, and he grinned lightly. “You know, I think you might be onto something there. Then again, maybe he just like kangaroos.” He looked back at William who seemingly wanted to say something, but was interrupted by a loud ringing from a bell somewhere. Matthias blinked softly, looking upwards. “Huh. I guess you’re right.” He looked down again, smiling as he gave William a wave, shouting out “See you soon, Will! Nice meeting you too!” after him. He then turned to the kangaroo boy, snickering as he stepped closer and raised a hand, giving his furry back a little pat. “I better get to class too. I’ll tell the teacher that you’ll be right there, alright? Speak to you soon!” Ignoring the growing need to scratch Riley behind the ear, Matthias turned around and headed towards the classroom which he seemed to remember having passed just about twice now. The school map wasn’t that difficult to remember, so there was that. He didn’t run, but he walked at a quickened pace, since he didn’t want to be there late, but he didn’t want another bumping-into incident. He’d actually never heard a bell before. They didn’t use them in kindergarden in Denmark, and considering he hadn’t gone to a proper school before… well, he’d never experienced one for himself. It was interesting, to say the least. He arrived at the classroom not long after and stepped inside, the first thing he saw being William seemingly helping a redheaded girl with a bit of a limp up towards the desk, where something was scribbled on the board, and there were several beakers put out. He ignored the oddity of the situation of having no teacher, apparently, turning to look over at Kevin, sitting next to another guy, both of which had picked out a pair of beakers. He gave a grin, raising a hand to give a wave to the boy while calling out “Hey Kevin!” With that done, he walked up to the front desk, reading over the words on the board, his brow furrowing as he tried to make sense of it. He looked down at the beakers and the ‘elements’ contained within, picking up a beaker, almost filled with sand, turning it around in his hands. He didn’t think it was a prank of any kind. And it seemed too obvious to be some kind of weird riddle. Even then, it seemed just a bit odd for it to be what it seemed to be as well; Them learning to control the elements. To a degree, at least. He shrugged and put down the beaker of sand, picking up one with a box of matches in it, tilting his head a little as a smile played on his lips. … Then again, this entire place seemed a bit odd, so if anything, it fit with the rest of it. He took the beaker of matches with him, heading over to one of the tables near the windows, giving William a wink on the way, snickering to himself as he sat down, placing the beaker in front of him and picking out the box of matches, studying it in the light of the sun shining brightly through the window. “… Hmm. I guess I should just… give it a shot.” |
