What part annoyed you the most in the 3d Gen Games?
What part in any of the 3d Gen games has annoyed you the most?
For me, I would say Victory Road when I played Ruby version. I don't know why but it always seemed to take the longest time for me to complete and I felt like I would always get lost. |
Seeing my rival waiting up ahead and thinking to myself 'Oh damn....'
Or, spending ages attempting to make it up to Rayquaza without falling through the cracks in the floor. |
Yeah, Sky Pillar and Victory Road were both tough. However, even as my brain developed and I was able to conquer them with ease like I can now xD, this:
Quote:
That's my least favourite part. No time in LeafGreen. |
the part in the Hoenn game that annoyed me the most was trying to get to the part to unlock the regi trio.
and in the kanto ones was not be able to trade my pokemon on from my Sapphire to LG/FR until after the league. |
Victory road was really annoying, due to it using a cocktail of HMs to travel it. It isn't even that hard if you have late 50's Pokémon, but the requirement of HMs is Mt. Cornet bad. (Although Mt. Cornet will always be worse. :/)
|
Well the unavailibility of VS Seeker so that I could train before the Elites as well to navigate Sky Pillar to reach Rayquaza that bothered me in Emerald
|
I also hate victory road. I took me more time to cross it than to reach it.
|
Wally in victory road and the rouytes with rain and you can't run in the tal grass there. Also the recover spamming militics.
|
The first battle with May at the Lab. I hate those first battles.
|
if we're including the kanto games, itll be a tie between surge's gym (need I say more) and rock tunnel. that tunnel has put me off replaying the kanto games SO many times because I don't want to face it
|
I found the weather effects on the overworld really cool, but they really slowed down the battles. Battling in areas where there is rain or a sandstorm effect annoyed me because of the added text that made the battles last at least twice as long: "It started raining" "___ is buffeted by the storm", etc
|
Two things in particular.
No day/night cycle and it was really hard or even impossible to get some pokemon. The third gen felt a bit detached from the previous two...even though overall the 3rd gen was my favourite. |
Victory Road. I just hate going through there with Pokemon that need to know certain HM moves, which means I have to leave a team member behind and they don't get the experience I want them to get.
|
The cave you had to went through to get to Lavender town... Man I hate having to use flash. For some reason, Granite cave in RSY didn't annoy me at all, I can easily maneuver through it in the dark.
Also, I hated the Digglet Cave, Arena Trap and the occasional overpowered Dugtrio are such a pain... |
i have to say my least favorite part of R/S is the Sky Tower. However, in FR/LG, it infuriates me that they give you the opportunity to begin collecting Pokemon from Gen II, only to find out they only give you a fraction of the Pokemon you should be able to get. Its like giving someone a piece of cake and taking away all of the frosting.
|
The internal clock in Ruby went out after a year or so after it was first played, and after that the tides didn't work and other time-based events could not be completed, which annoyed me quite a bit. I also didn't like Sky Tower's broken tiles, but I liked grinding there and the music was good.
|
Victory Road in Hoenn, the amount of HMs required was so insane it wasted my team's movesets quickly.
|
It frustrated me to no end that I could never get to Mirage Island in Sapphire. I know that it's not even that special apart from the Liechi Berry, but I must've spent a solid year checking for it every day, and never having it appear. Then when my internal clock stopped, I think I was more upset that I'd never be able to get there over anything else.
|
You guys already said everything I had in mind ^_^
I'll just quote the parts I agree with: FR/LG Quote:

1. The braille in FR/LG where you need to use Cut in front of a door to open it, I had to open the internet for help & inevitably spoiled parts of the game. 2. Receiving the running shoes only after the first gym in FR/LG, it's annoying because I got used to them since R/S/E. 3. The two bikes in R/S/E, each having a different "signature move" needed to reach certain places, I was too lazy to switch in every new area so I missed out on some items. 4. Natures, it was a pain trying to capture/breed a poke with a nature that doesn't suck, especially for someone who knew about them halfway through the game. |
Overpowered 7th Gym in RSE. Really hated those twins, always being forced to capture a Sharpedo before them and just hope I could actually get past the Xatu and Claydol :(
|
I rly hated the victory road on hoenn, it was so long and too many HMs required. Also hated the water routes.
On FR/LG surge's gym and that cave where you have to use flash to light it were rly annoying for me. Ugh |
Way too many HMs. Dive and Flash were really really annoying for me.
|
Catching the freaking Regis. It was so unnecessary and frankly wasn't worth it in the end.
|
Quote:
they have no real effect on anything. its more for the challenge of getting them. but i do agree, the Regi trio is probably the hardest and most time consuming |
Quote:
|
Quote:
I personally thought the puzzle wasn't worth the effort because I hated the design of the Regis. |
throwing the ability to catch one of the Legendary Dogs kind of pisses me off too, for 2 reasons.
1. Having the first encounter can take FOREVER, and without abilities like Arena Trap, it is extremely difficult to catch them. They are like overpowered Abra. It can be just downright annoying trying to catch them. 2. Giving you one of three Legendaries makes me really angry. It makes it so even if you do somehow succeed at catching one of them, you have to trade and completely start from scratch twice to get all three, which can take an outrageous amount of time to do. Also, one other thing that really bugs me is Mew. Mew makes completing the Pokedex virtually impossible. I only have FR, LG, R, S, and Crystal. There is no way for me to get Mew. I also only have a GBA SP, so i couldnt get Mew even if i had the right game to do so. |
Lack of certain johto pokemon such as Houndour/doom, Stantler, etc. was bothersome. Though it was remedied with release of Emerald, people who thought R/S and Emerald were basically same game and bought the former instead were out of luck.
|
What bothered me the most is that RSE ended ;;. They are my favorite games ever and I would have simply loved to have continued playing them much longer <3
|
Tate and Liza really bugged me on Emerald. The Claydol and Xatu combo decimated my team over and over >.>
Also, like many others have said, Victory Road in Hoenn. It required so many HMs and was just overall annoying to get through. Despite that, Emerald is still my favorite game :D |
Yeah, most of Emerald's gym leaders. I think Emerald has the hardest gym leaders of any Pokemon game. But a lot of them still give me a ton of problems.
|
Mainly it's Wallace's Ludicolo and Juan's Kingdra for both, spamming DD.
Wallace, for the worst his Ludicolo knows the move Leech Seed... :( |
I'd say Victory Road is really annoying. I also never liked the Team Aqua Hideout to the east of Mossdeep :P

I didn't like how fast Pokémon ran away from me in the Safari Zone, especially the ones that are hard to encounter. Chansey, Scyther, Pinsir, Kangaskhan, and Tauros are a few that comes to mind. Also, there was no way to bring your Pokémon back from the first and second generation games. This made me very upset. D:
|
The fact that there's not much to do after beating the game. Pretty much just the Battle Tower in RS, and the Battle Frontier in Emerald.
And how terrible training is in Emerald. At least RS has high level Pokémon in the Sky Pillar. This might just be me, but training in HGSS is one thing (there's at least Mt. Silver with decent stuff to fight before Red), but Emerald is just pitiful. Maybe it's just the fact that there's a big water portion of the game with just Tentacool, Wingull and such. |
Let's see...
I got lost in Victory Road first time I reached it in Sapphire - until I came up with the "go around the walls" method (where you walk along the wall until you get to an exit or ladder). I didn't crack the regi code until a while after, using a very long process involving a Pokémon magazine, a pen, some paper and my game. In Emerald I was unprepared for Wallace replacing Steven. Those were my top three most annoying parts about the 3rd generation Hoenn games. As for the Kanto remakes, the only thing that really bugged me was the fact that I couldn't trade with any Hoenn games until some time after the National Pokédex - and that in itself was difficult for me because by the time I got around to that point I was too powerful to weaken most of the things you encounter. |
In RSE I really hate going up route 119 because there is just way too much tall grass.
Also wasn't a fan of Victory Road in that game. I also missed the night and day system since I got so used to it with Gen II. |
In Emerald, I think I speak for everyone in saying that the incredibly small bag space for the amount of items able to be picked up got annoying at times. Also, when I was younger the un-linearity of the story line frustrated me in not knowing which city to head to next. But now that I know better, that's what made the game so great.
But I would still go as far to say that Emerald was the best pokemon game, and a remake with the physical/special split and slightly more post-game progressional content along with the original Battle Frontier would keep me entertained forever. Please Game Freak? |
I really hated the Physical/special attacks being determined by type rather than the move itself
|
Add this to the list: Finding Latias/Latios. Initially you have NO IDEA where it is, so you waste tons of time and repels trying to locate it.
|
What annoyed me the most about Gen 3 was the huntail/gorebyss evolution items. If you could get both of them in one game, I'd have completed the Hoenn dex by now -.-
|
Trying to talk to Mr. Briney was surely the toughest and the most annoying part.
|
The amount of HM's to get through victory road on RSE
|
Hoenn: F'n, the electric building south of Watson's Gym. Coudn't run in that building, ECH!!
Kanto: The number islands, such a waste of time. |
Catching a Feebas!
Then, Figuring out nothing cool happened after you've gotten 100 successful flights in the Mossdeep Space Center. |
Beating the Elite Four on Ruby. It was a pain in the ass, especially Drake.
But I must say the Victory Road wasn't nice either. |
No one's mentioned Emerald's Battle Frontier? I bought Emerald when it first came out. 8 years later, STILL haven't beaten it.
For FR/LG it was the Gen II happiness evolutions being disabled for no apparent reason. Especially since they make you watch the animation anyway every time your Golbat/Chansey/whatever levels up with max happiness... |
Sky Pillar. I hope I never come across anything like that again.
|
Trying to land in Mirage Island and Shoal Cave with dead battery. You know what? I wouldn't have even gone there if it wasn't for Snorunt and Liechi Berry. Thankfully I got a Snorunt in Emerald, and then proceeded to get it on Ruby holding the Liechi Berry. I wouldn't want to go through this trouble again, nope.
|
Cave on the island, with the second gym I think. If I'm right there was a guy with Devon goods(?) in the cave? Let's just say, I had no idea what Flash is nor how to use it. So yeah, Cave without Flash.
|
Every time I entered Hoenn's ocean I would dread the masses of weak Pokémon I had to encounter http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ed2305b7.png
|
1.The VS SEEKER
2.Getting lost in really enormous caves |
Quote:
That thing was so annoying http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ed2305b7.png |
My main beef with Ruby and Sapphire is Norman. Why?
Spoiler:
|
Making it up Sky Tower without falling through the tiles and the length and confusing-ness of Victory Road were probably the two most annoying aspects of the R/S/E games.
|
The unbearable horror that is Hoenn's Water Routes.
|

Can anybody agree that R/S/E's Victory Road was the toughest one in pokemon HISTORY?
|
Quote:
|
Victory Road and Wallace/Juan's gym in RSE, as well as mach biking over the cracks to get to Rayquaza.
In FRLG, team rockets hideout on the Sevii Islands was such a headache for me. |
When they ended :(
No seriously, I can't think of anything that really annoyed me. Pokemon Emerald is a masterpiece. I love it, and 3rd Gen is clearly the best. Water routes? Loved them. Sky Tower? Didn't mind it that much. Victory Road? Not too hard. Gym Leaders? Just some of the puzzles. |
Some of the Gym puzzles in Hoenn were really annoying. Getting to the Gym Leader was more difficult than beating them.
|
1.The Victory Road in R/S/E and FR/LG I'm too lazy to go there so I use cheats
2.The VS Seeker 3.Gym Puzzles (Especially Lt. Surge's Gym) 4.Battling Your Rival in FR/LG 5.Deserts 6.Zubat's everywhere in a Cave |
Lt. Surge's gym was designed by Satan

I thought the most annoying parts were the first routes of FR/LG when they tried to give you Teachy TV and you didn't have running shoes. And also Wally catching Ralts in R/S/E. |
The stupid help menu from the FireRed and LeafGreen games. I had a tendency to accidentally bump the LR buttons into things and the help screen would pop up with that stupid little jingle. Even worse was the fact that it made another jingle when you closed it.
|
How the happy golbat fails evolving after EVERY level-up until you get the national dex in FR/LG...
...And about that VS-Seeker... I actually really really miss the possibility to rebattle trainers starting from Gen V... So I saw the VS Seeker in those games as a great improvement. |
no physical special split.
it was real annoying going back to gen3 after the newer gens to find many pokemons being set back because of this. |
If it's a place that needs Flash, I automatically hate it.
... But really, Flash is one of the most useless moves (battling with Splash, IMO) in the games. Plus, I don't really like the concept of HM Slaves, so it's either I use one or I wing it.... SKY PILLAR, I HATE YOU TOO. It's just Arceus-hard. And the Zubats for every cave? I'd rather not about them. Crobat is useful... |
I was always annoyed by weather effects. Every round the game would take time to remind you 'it's still raining!' or 'the sun is still shining bright!' or 'yep, there's still hail'.
Even to this day, those weather effects, while cool, still annoy me because they really slow down the battles. |
fighting may right on the route right before you get to the city with the electric gym. Always had trouble with her
And all the trolling tentacools in the oceans. in both firered/leafgreen and emerald. ugh |
Half the world covered in water. I like exploration but Hoenn had me checking the ****ing Town Map every 10 tiles in the later routes. Think about it: the Town Map. The most useless key item in all the games. I don't know if it's a merit or a flaw.
Also, most Pokémon have crap level up movepools and there's no physical/special split, which makes it hard for me to get back to Hoenn. Things they fixed in Sinnoh. Lavaridge and Sootopolis City locations. Very difficult to reach without Fly. |
The fact it was nearly impossible to train up till Pokemon Sapphire/Ruby...
|
Sootopolis is the only thing I was annoyed by in the Hoenn region.
Everything in FR/LG annoys me, it's just all so... terrible.. The game was awful. |
I think towards the end of RSE really annoyed me. All the surfing around and diving finding Sootopolis and Kyogre before that, I think it's just a bit too much. Also, Victory Road was really annoying because it felt so long and the amount of HMs you have to use is really annoying so you are bound to bring in at least 1 HM slave. All the back and forth traveling in the game wasn't really my favorite thing, either.
