Steeling the first signup! Did you see what I did there? ;D
Bad jokes aside, this looks like a really cool club! Username/Nickname: Narnia Partner: Poncho the Magneton What made you join this club? I've had a steel type in almost every one of my Pokemon teams and the fact that they have immunities to Poison along with resistances to several other types, make them a reliable choice for any team. They're not all about stall though- they're the style I like! Bulky offense. Hyper offense just goes too far, since they're generally rather frail teams, steel-types can be the ones who can sweep while also tanking a few good hits. In-game wise, they're fun to use! I really love Magnezone, its by far my MVP in Black 2, having troubles with basically nothing. I really like all of the Pokemon that belong to the steel-typing because they all look incredibly badass. While steel never took my interest until late last year, they'll continue to be a staple on my teams just because they're so fun and reliable to count on. They also make reliable alloys in double battles! Even if my puns are onixceptable they'll evolve and stop being so tearable. D; What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? These questions are as hard as the steel-type's defenses itself. I really have a lot of favourites out there. I'd have to say I really like Magneton for some reason. I never took interest to it until last year? I started using it on Black 2 and since then I've tried to cram it into every team possible. Its just so useful and with Magnet Rise it can get rid of its major weaknesses. Then there's Skarmory! I actually really like it because its the mascot of a LPer that I sometimes watch. But there's also the fact that it's a steel bird that can do almost anything and defys the odds. If I put metal on a bird I'm pretty sure it'd be sent to the ground, crushed by the weight- but nope Skarmory just keeps flying. What a badass bird. I also really like Scizor but I'm not exactly too sure why. :p (Also I'm reallyyy sorry for all the bad puns I made in this post) |

Partner: Lucario What made you join this club? The fact it has been ages since we last had a club for Steel-type Pokemon, and I was part of the last club (whose owner sadly isn't here anymore) so I thought hey why not join the new incarnation of the club? Not to mention how cool they are. What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? Lucario, I always loved using it and it proved a good team member on my Black 2 run, while I have since replaced him with a Scrafty to cut down a Fire weakness present on my team he was still a formidable team member who destroyed most of the story. I also love his awesome attacks like his signature Aura Sphere. And there's also the likes of Excadrill, Scizor and the Magnemite line due to how great they perform in battle. |
I'm just stopping by to say Good luck with your new group Seattle :). We both reserved our groups at the same time and it looks like you're off to a good start! The Steel-type is an interesting type for sure....See you around!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah! Steel team for the win!
Username/Nickname: KriegStein Partner: Aggron What made you join this club? Other than steel being one of my main types? I guess because I love steel pokemon. :D What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? Aggron...duh. Because its like a panzer dragon. Or a armored dinosaur. I mean what can be cooler? Nothing pretty much. Yeah I like many steel type pokemon but 3gen was the first I owned so Aggron holds a special place in my team. |
Welcome to the club, everyone! I've updated the Members list.

Definitely joining this one.
Username/Nickname: Troock Partner(s) - You can pick up to 2 different Partners from the list below: Zoro the Bisharp and Stark the Metagross What made you join this club? Steel, dark and fire are my favorite types What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? Oh god, I have never been really good at picking absolute favorites, but I can give you a list of some of my favorites: - Steelix: Steelix is just so huge and indestructible, and I love the constant grin on his face when he crushes his enemies. - Scizor: Scizor has to be the coolest pokemon ever made. Unfortunately he is not as indestructible and powerful as most other steel types, but he's still f*cking awesome. - Aron, Lairon, Aggron: three dinosaur-like creatures with bodies made out of steel? That just screams awesomeness AND powerfulness. - Beldum, Metang, Metagross: I just love their design (especially Metang's and Metagross's) and, like most steel types, they are big, indestructible and powerful. - Lucario: Lucario is kinda like Scizor (he is also really cool, but isn't really like most steel types), only Lucario also uses special attacks (aura attacks). - Pawniard, Bisharp: You just gotta love their design. I also love the Steel/Dark combination. PS: Also, can I make some userbars for the club? PSS: One more thing, can you please add a system like in the Blazing Inferno 2 club. That makes the club a lot more fun. :) |
Welcome aboard, Troock.
Yes, you can make some userbars, you can PM me once you're done. The points system can be a bit complicated to maintain on my part, though if the club gets big enough I could implement them in some way. However I will hold events once in while. |
Definitely joining this club and really beautiful CSS btw!
Username/Nickname: jellicentfan1/ jelli Partner(s) - Hector the Durant http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/b/bb/Ani632MS.png What made you join this club? Many things really! I feel that Steel types are severely underrated because they aren't as common as other types and they don't have a huge offensive presence except for a select few. Defensive mons tend to be a bit harder to raise, but it is worth it in the end having a Pokemon with many resistances and able to take hits. Steel Pokemon fit that role of being hard to take down while still Powerful enough to deal damage to the other Pokemon. There are great offensive steel types as well such as Scizor, Genesect, Durant, Escavalier, etc. So basically you can just say I am very high on steel types and I just love everything about them. What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? Really hard for me to pick a favorite here because I love them all really. I am a huge fan of Scizor, Skarmory, Bronzong, Durant, Heatran, Magnemite, and Jirachi. If I had to pick an overall favorite though it would be Scizor because I have always been able to use him successfully and he always seems to make am impact on my teams. He has a beautifully constructed design and looks completely badass. http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/e/e8/Spr_5b_212_m.png |
Welcome to the club, [supporter]jellicent1[/supporter].
In other news, I've put up a new topic up for discussion, as I felt that the old topic was too similar to the question in sign-up form. |
Ohhh nice new topic! Steel types don't have a huge movepool so this wasn't a hard decision for me. Bullet Punch is easily my favorite steel move. Not only does it have priority, but gets a technician boost from Scizor as well and just overall makes for a very powerful move. It destroys anything that doesn't resist it.

Partners: Steelix and Scizor http://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/black-white/normal/steelix.pnghttp://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/black-white/normal/scizor.png Why I joined this club: I love Steel-types, powerful and impervious to alot of damage. Favorite Steel-type: I really like Steelix because of its intimidating appearance and overall power. I also fancy Scizor because of its warrior-like attitude, speed and power. |
Welcome to the club, CloysterOyster.
To answer my own question, my favorite Steel-type move is Doom Desire, because it's such a limited and cool move to use as a signature move for Jirachi. Shame that it's not as useful as it sounds, though. |
Quote:
I love Doom Desire, and I actually tried using it competitively. I think it is an extremely underrated move tbh. |
To answer the current topic, my favourite steel-type move depends on what Pokemon its used by. To be honest steel isn't the fastest type out there, so Gyro Ball really packs a punch, KOing fast Pokemon that think they can switch in safely. Its very handy but its usefulness depends on what Pokemon its used by and what its up against, so Gyro Ball depends on the situation but is still one of my favourite moves. However I think my vote has to go to Flash Cannon, its a rather unusual steel type move being special based but it has a good chance of lowering Special Defense which is quite nice and its so reliable compared to other strong moves.
To be honest, I haven't heard of Doom Desire, probably because I haven't used a Jirachi before. The move itself sounds pretty badass though. XD |
Quote:
What is your favorite Steel-type move? I am going to say Iron Head to this one. It has a power of 80, 100% accuracy, 15 PP and it has a chance of making the target flinch. That just sounds like an awesome move to me. |
Hmm. Favourite steel type move... Hmm. Going old school im going to say iron tail. I dunno why. I just enjoyd using it. (also didnt it have a chance to lover the foes defence?)
|

|
Quote:
Anyways, since everybody has answered the topic and it'll probably fizzle out, I've put up our next topic. |
Ohhh which is the most powerful? hmmmm. This is pretty hard because there are many steel types that are really strong. You have Scizor, Jirachi, Genesect, Arceus, and Heatran who are probably the most powerful. I am going to go with Arceus though as it's stats are just unmatched and with access to Calm Mind and Judgement it can rip an entire team apart all by itself.
|
Well legendaries are... legendary to say the least so I think I'll leave them out when I'm considering this question. Easily Scizor! Even without a Choice Band equipped, it can just rip through teams with Technician boosted Bug Bites and Bullet Punches. While it doesn't sound overly impressive of a Scizor biting a caterpillar to its death, it really is devastating how much damage it can do. Legendary wise I'd actually have to say Jirachi, with Serene Grace it really becomes the Action Replay user of Pokemon, somehow getting their opponent to flinch or be paralyzed every turn. Its hard to get around if you're not careful. And Arceus-Steel does have great defenses but its movepool isn't very versatile (well at least the ones you see in competitive) and you can get past Calm Mind by roaring/whirlwinding it out.
|
You guys from a pretty competitive point of view, though I guess it's the best way to talk about which Pokemon is the most powerful.
I think Metagross is up there. He has some useful defenses and tight resistances, and is a gigantic, intelligent creature. Meteor Mash is an awesome move as well. |
Quote:
Jirachi just recently got Meteor Mash in an event as well and when combined with Serene Grace it is really really powerful. |
Username/Nickname: AlexOzzyCake/Ozzy
Partner(s): Registeel & Bronzong, please! What made you join this club? I've always adored Steel types so this seems like the perfect place to be. They're a particularly unique type of Pokémon with their huge defences and their wide variety of support moves, alongside the sheer power they often carry, so they rank highly amongst my favourites. What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? Bronzong! It's so darn derpy omg. <3 Meteor Mash + Metagross = heaven. Give it Rock Polish and it just wrecks a whole team haha. |
Quote:
Ohhh Alex, nice partner choice! I have always been a fan of Bronzong because he is so unique. Also having a immunity to Ground moves is a HUGE advantage. What makes him stand out though is his great support movepool and his amazing defenses which allows him to set up screens for his teammates to then set up a sweep! I'll agree here! Meteor Mash Metagross is very scary because of his already high attack and then having a chance to get boosted even more is astounding! |
Welcome, AlexOzzyCake :)
Quote:
|
Levitate? Pshhh, Heat Proof is the way forward! And what's all this duel screens nonsense - Bronzong is a powerhouse in his own right on my teams. Sure doesn't have the best stats or moves for it, but I find him to be a very unique fighter at least and he can help out in some really tough spots. His supportive move sets are interesting, but they don't suit my style haha.
|
Quote:
Also @ Alex, Bronzong is much more powerful than I thought haha! I just checked it's stats and it can really run an all out attack set. With moves like Gyro Ball, EQ, Zen Headbutt, and Explosion it can be a powerful force! |
Oh god Jirachi is horrid to face, it's the bane of my existence </3 That annoying parahaxflinch set up with some powerful attacks thrown in can be a huge pain in the butt and all the while you're left staring at some weird ugly imp thing... I don't even know what it's supposed to be haha. The fake tears etched into its skin are creepy as heck and the whole design is just irksome to me. Does anyone else think so?
|
http://img.pokemondb.net/artwork/jirachi.jpg
Wow never looked at it closely before, but those fake looking tears are really creepy and ruins the design for me a bit. |
Quote:
Aside from that I don't really mind the "tears" on Jirachi, though I don't really understand why it has to be there. |
Levitate or Heatproof?
Spoiler:
In all honesty though I personally think they're both useful abilities with their pros and cons. I personally see Levitate more although Heatproof doesn't sound half bad. Its just rather uncommon but its good to be different? I personally think Bronzong would be better with Heatproof just because fire-type attackers in my opinion are some of the hardest hitters in the game. While ground-types can make you quiver in your boots, an ability to reduce impact from these hot-headed creatures can really do Bronzong a lot of good. Plus fire-types are virtually seen running around a lot of teams compared to ground-types. While both of these types are common I think Heatproof would prove to be quite useful since there are kung fu monkeys and phoenixs at every corner. Levitate is great though don't get me wrong! Also Jirachi is more annoying than Dunsparce and Liepard, fused. Full stop. Just watch it smile in amusement as it makes the battle so unbelievably frustrating. Substitute, Thunder Wave and then the Iron Head strategy. I honestly didn't think I'd meet something worse than Liepard, but I have. I'm looking at you Jirachi. I've never really liked it from that day forward since its an absolute pain in the butt to face. Although surprisingly there's actually an even more irritating steel-type out there. Skarmory. God damn it. Whirlwinding, setting up hazards and racking up damage. It also can reliably recover itself easily and it'll just make you shake your fist at it. Offense wise, Durant can prove to be quite the effective threat with Hustle + Hone Claws. While Hustle does sacrifice accuracy for power, it can quickly patch that up and just rip through teams. Its got a pretty good defensive typing to keep it safe from Toxic Spikes and anything else trying to wear down the metal ant. All in all its extremely dangerous if you don't quickly dispose of it. I learned that the hard way. ): |
I agree with you about Durant. It is really a very powerful Pokemon that I love to use, but because of Hustle you really need to use Hone Claws and it is really hard to set up because of a 4x weakness to fire and bad Sp. Def. If you can manage to set up though he can become a powerful sweeper due to high speed and really high attack.
|
Quote:
Not necessarily! Take Bronzong with Heatproof as an example. It will be neutral to both fighting and fire moves and then retaliate with an Earthquake or Psychic type move which would take down Blaziken. ;) |
Quote:
And as for which Bronzong ability I prefer, definitely Levitate as it is way superior in competitive play because, unlike Heatproof which grants neutral damage to Fire, Levitate grants a complete immunity to Ground. And not to mention Jirachi is one of the best Serene Grace abusers out there, with the right moves this cutie can hax teams to death. Thunder Wave, Substitute and Iron Head is one true recipe for destruction and death by flinch hax. Skarmory is also really annoying because it can shrug off many physical attacks plus it sets up entry hazards to annoy you even further. And last but not least, the annoyance known as Ferrothorn. A type combination that resists a lot, and it has an ability that makes any direct attack (making contact) you use against it inflict recoil back on you plus it has the moves to make use of its strategy. Even a Fire-type will have trouble taking it out in the rain. Let's say that Steel-types are the true annoyances of the competitive scene, yet most have their own strategies to work with. |
You mention Skarmory and I just wanted to add that it is even more of an annoyance due to Whirlwind. It can quickly put an end to your potential sweep by erasing all stat boosts you have accumulated. One of the reasons why it is one of the most used Pokemon.
|
Ohhhh how could I forget about Ferrothorn? I remember my first encounter with it, where it was carrying the standard set of Leech Seed, Thunder Wave, Protect and Power Whip. Its like Blissey all over again. With huge defences it can easily withstand any attacks that you throw at it (except for fire-type/fighting moves) and can stall you out. With an immunity to Toxic, Leech Seed and a good typing to support it, Ferrothorn arguably becomes one of the most frustrating Pokemon out there. Without a fire-type you're virtually left to its doom, being slowly whittled down. Unless of course you have something like a Breloom or something that can set up a Substitute before it falls victim to the three headed spike thing. All in all, if you're not prepared for it, you might just find it ripping apart your team. The Iron Barb + Rocky Helmet combo works quite effectively.
To sum it all up, Ferrothorn is basically like a punching bag for cursing. Except worse. |
Quote:

Quote:
|
I also am not a fan of Ferrothorn haha. I agree he is an amazing battler and very commonly seen because of that, but really to me is just bad. I agree his design is inferior to Forretress who plays a very similar role and just overall is a very ugly Pokemon that I hate facing and hate using.

Welcome to the club! Lucario is certainly an really popular Pokemon isn't he? I think because of all the spotlight he got with his own movie and special promotions will cement his place in Pokemon history as one of the most popular Pokemon ever. Who is your favorite Steel-type specialist? (From Jasmine, Steven, and Byron)
My Favorite Pokemon From Jasmine Is Steelx Because On Pokemon Gold I Chose Totodile And Battling To Jasmine Jasmine's Steelx Beat My Pokemon On Just Two Attacks Then I Use Review Then Beat Steelx jasmine's Steelx Is Really Powerful |
Oh awesome!
To answer the current topic though, I am going to have to say Jasmine. I feel that she was such an interesting character and the sidequest she sent you on to fetch medicine for Amphy showed that she has a huge heart and cares for Pokemon a lot. She ignored her duties as a leader to care for Amphy. I also liked the fact that she was the original Steel specialist and that will always make her stand out to me. |
Who is your favorite Steel-type specialist? (From Jasmine, Steven, and Byron)
Definitely Steven. I like how he was the mysterious Steven Stone in R/B/E. His dad told you to give him a letter and you go to him and find out he's a strong steel type trainer. Then in Ruby and Sapphire he is also the champion. And to top it off, i just love his team. Also, jellicentmaster, congrats on becoming co-owner. |

Partner(s) - Skarmory and Jirachi What made you join this club? Although I've never really gushed about steel types before, I noticed now that I like quite a handful of 'em. It would be lovely for me to discuss them more with other folks. What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? Skarmory has a nice slick design with an awesome touch of crimson red. I like using him as my flier in Crystal. :3 Plenty of Steel types are cool, such Metagross, Escavalier, Scizor, Steelix, Aggron, etc. Skarmory is my favorite because his feathers are sharp as blades and can be separately moved, see see! https://www.pokecheck.org/i/anim/227.gif Jirachi's blue tears are awesome, what you talking about?! I love its star piece head and the yellow tags/ribbons. It's a very neat legendary Pokemon, though its third eye sometimes creeps me out... Nonetheless, very adorable. Who is your favorite Steel-type specialist? (From Jasmine, Steven, and Byron) Jasmine is beautiful and caring, so that's why I'm fond of her. She also isn't what one would expect having the steel type Pokemon. |
Welcome to the club, TwilightBlade!
We seem to have a good amount of members now, maybe I could do one event before next semester starts. If you have a good suggestion, feel free to PM me. |
Favourite Steel specialist? Has to be Steven. That guy had 'cool' down to a tee and the idea of a Steel champion was incredibly cool. I do love Jasmine, she's a wonderful woman, but Steven just takes the cake haha. His Metagross is an exceptionally cool Pokémon and his whole team just strikes "I'm a badass", which is very fitting for a champion. I also love his use of fossils which complement the Steel-types well and his use of moves like Iron Claw and Steel Wing which give Steel types a huge boost. He did the E4 proud <3

Definitely one of the best champions we have ever had imo. I was a little disappointed when they replaced him as champion with Wallace in Emerald. |
Username/Nickname: ShadowExcadrill
Partner(s): Archon the Aggron and Tempest the Excadrill What made you join this club?: Mainly since i love using Steel-types in every single team i have. What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? Hands down, it has to be Excadrill. My name already implies it. I love Excadrill's design and the power that he has. |
Quote:
Also welcome, shadow! :) |
Quote:
What made it more disappointing was we JUST fought a water specialist as the final gym leader and then they make us fight another :(. I would have much rather fought Steven as the champion maybe even making him stronger than he was in Ruby or Sapphire by expanding on his steel team possibly giving him even stronger Steel Pokemon! |

I'd say i would go for:
Metagross, Magneton, Skarmory, Mawile, Aggron and Scizor |
I would loved to have seen his Skarmory from Ruby and Sapphire replaced with Scizor. Yes he would have a huge weakness to fire types, but that extra Power on his team would have been fascinating to see and would have definitely presented an extra challenge for those who chose Sceptile as their starter.
|
Jasmine is definitely my fave Steel specialist, she's got a bit of a shy personality yet the battle with her is not to be taken lightly. For reasons as said above, you'd never even expect her to use Steel-types. Also, I love how cute her Japanese name (Mikan) sounds!
|

You know how when there's a test and you have those multiple choices? Usually there's one called all of the above, so can I choose that? I really like all of them actually. However if that's not the case then it's a tie between Jasmine and Steven. Both of them are very different people but I find their personalities impossible not to like. You've got Jasmine- she treats her Pokemon more than tools of war.
She cares for them, she treats them like family, she even goes out of her way to help them. In real life, I'd say its pretty damn good if you take some time out of your day to help a sick Pokemon feel better. Staying by their side is even more better. While she wasn't the most challenging gym leader I've ever faced she's just such a sweet and caring person. And then we have Steven. The guy becomes a champion with him and his incredibly tough team. Skarmory, Aggron, all sorts of things running around. They can do serious damage and are some of the highest-leveled Pokemon in the game. And who replaces him in Emerald? A damn guy with an umbrella for his head who wants you to dance. Well done Gamefreak, well done. I applaud you. But Steven doesn't give a damn that he doesn't have his position anymore! He goes traveling around Hoenn and tries to help new trainers out. He's so laid-back and easy going along with a calm nature. He's born to be a true champion, its like in his blood. And he never gives up! Despite being defeated and replaced, he just goes to Meteor Falls to toughen himself up and wait for a challenger who is brave enough to face him. Steven, you are badass. Enough said. :) |
Hmm since I can start new topics now, what are your hopes for Steel types in X&Y guys?
|
What are you hopes for steel types in X/Y?
That they become more used by players! Steel is rather uncommon compared to the likes of fire, water, grass and electric which is rather saddening because they're a great type to use! With the introduction of fairy which counters the terrifying beasts known as dragons, steel-types will hopefully benefit from them by being counters to the latest addition. Furthermore I'm disappointed that most steel-types have average or poor speed. Yes, they're weighed down by all that metal but I want to see some lightning speed rock snakes that aren't called Steelix some time soon. That'd just be badass. I'd also like to see futuristic-like designs! Robots and all that shizz. They really need to add a signature move if such a Pokemon came into existence, with an animation like Leer from G/S/C. If you haven't seen the move's animation it makes this screech-like noise and it looks like lasers shooting out of a Pokemon's eyes. Badass. I hated the later animations though. Seeing it happen in 3D however would just be.. undescribable. Think of the feeling you get when its the last day of school and the next day is summer holidays. Then think about eating chocolate ice-cream on a hot summer's day. That's what it feels like to witness such a move. B) I'm fine with whatever they throw at us though. Just make it good! |
They didn't give Steven extra steel types like Scizor and Forretress because those are generation 2 pokémon. And, as Alex said, Steven's team already was really strong without them.
What are you hopes for steel types in X/Y? I'm really hoping we'll get a steel type gym leader/E4 member/champion again. Also, I'd like to see some interesting dual types involving steel. A Steel/Fire type would be awesome, and another Steel/Dark type would be cool as well. And of course I want to see some more mega-evolutions of steel types! We already have these ones: Spoiler:
But I would love to see a MegaScizor or a MegaBisharp as well. As for the mega steel types already announced, I don't like MegaMawile that much. It seems like all they did was add another one of those jaw-like things on her head and made some height and color changes. MegaLucario is a whole different story though. I admit, you can see that with MegaLucario all they did was add some things and made a few adjustments as well. But it still looks very different from Lucario imo, and just really. f*cking. awesome. |
lucario pic awesome i really love it :)
|
Im not getting X/Y myself cause i dont have, nor will get a 3DS, but ill hope there will be a Steel-type Gym leader or E4 member...

Yeh I Don't Have 3DS But I Will Play XandY In 3DS Emulator For Pc And I Hope Steel Type Gym,E4 Or Champion In XandY Iff It's Has He Will Be Very Hard To Beat Her

I'll keep that in mind next time ^_^
As for answering my current topic, I have high hopes for steels this gen. We already know about Mawile and Lucario getting mega formes which will be really nice for all of us steel fanatics out there. We also have Honedge who has been revealed and I personally have high hopes for him. I feel he will be a glass cannon, but will really be useful. With an immunity to Mach Punch, neutrality to Sucker Punch, and resistance to Bullet Punch, priority moves wont be much of a factor for him. I would also like to see a few special sweepers introduced. We have Genesect, and a few others, but the Steel type special movepool is very shallow and an expansion upon that with a few specially based steel Pokemon would really be a nice edition to this generation! |
What are your hopes for Steel types in X/Y?
The full game isn't even out yet so it's difficult to judge where Steel-types will head in general, but Mawile getting a new lease in life (Pardon the cliche) and Ghost/steel Honedge is a good prospect. |
Sweet I was waiting for this club.

My favorite pokemon line comes from it and everytime I've used a steel type it is just a complete beast. My bastiodon from the first time i played pearl would never die. What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? This one is tough. My favorite line is the Aron line. I love Larions design, Aggron is a tank and i had a real connection with a aron. It was the first time I trained up a aron to an aggron and I nicknamed it Arron (which is how I came up with my username). I would have to pick Larion though. The design just makes it. |

Welcome to the club, Pokemount!
New topic has now been posted: Do you think the introduction of Steel-types in Gen II was necessary? |
I do not think it was necessary, however I do think Steel types were definitely a great addition to the second generation and onward though. :)
|
Quote:
|
Definitely necessary. The type chart simply wasn't balanced and introducing Steel types helped do that. It provided resistances to many of the types especially Psychic type that was OP in gen 1.
|
I'll agree that it was a great addition to the series and one that helped it immensely, and i don't think it was completely necessary but it was one of those things that couldn't hurt to put in the game. In Gen II they create the dark type to help destroy the OP Psychic type. I do think that the dark type might have became the new OP, since Psychic couldn't even touch it. I think Steel type is just a balancing type, one that helps make the types more even as a whole.
|
Do you think the introduction of Steel-types in Gen II was necessary?
Well...yeah. It helped balance the type chart (like everyone has already pointed out) but also it kinda made more sence to add a new type for some pokemon. But I have to admit it wasnt realy a huge necessity. |
Alright, new topic incoming...
If you can choose one Steel-type Pokemon to exist in real life, what would it be? |
If you can choose one Steel-type Pokemon to exist in real life, what would it be?
Easy choice for me. Aggron of course. I mean...come on...LOOK AT IT! Its a dinosaur...with metal plates...eating metal. Do want. Although Skarmory or Metacross would be my second choice. |
I'd want Skarmory to exist in real life because not only is it a cool looking Pokemon that I adore, but it can also fly. I could imagine myself being able to be transported anywhere in the world if Skarmory existed.
|
Yeah I'd also love a Skarmory for same reasons as Jelli above. Come on, who'd love flying on an awesome-looking metal bird who's so badass? And it has always been a favorite in competitive play too!

Partners:Underrated the Malwile Join reason: Steel has always been one of my favorite types, it probably would be my favorite, but the game I grew up with didn't have it in the main game (I'm looking at you FireRed). Fave Steel type: Nostalgia-wise, I love Malwile, as a kid for some reason I thought that he looked totally awesome. Nowadays, my favorite is probably Bastiodon, thanks to him be on my Pearl team and sweeping half of the Elite Four. |

Welcome to the club Timmy! Mawile is a really cool Steel type Pokemon that I believe never really gets any love. How excited are you about it gaining a mega evolution this upcoming gen? |
Do you think the introduction of Steel-types in Gen II was necessary?
With the huge dominance of poison-types introduced in Generation I and very little being able to stop them, steel-types were necessary in my opinion. They were kind of like a type to restore balance between the rest and make sure every type had its chance to shine. Psychic was by far one of the most overpowered along with the Ghastly family which surprisingly did well as the only ghost-types in Gen I. Without steel-types, there would be types that overruled the entire game and types that didn't have necessity in the game at all. They were also there probably to stop the menacing dragons that would come later on. To sum it all up, they're like the butter holding the type balance together. Without them, the type chart would be an absolute disaster. What steel type would you like to have in real life and why? Skarmory doesn't sound half bad actually. Being able to fly through almost any conditions while also making a good pet. However I honestly want to own a Cobalion. Just being able to ride on its back while travelling in the countryside or forest, while it does have the downfall of not being able to fly, I feel like it'd last way longer than a Skarmory. Plus it'd be a brilliant protector with the various moves up its sleeve and its intimidating look would scare pickpockets off. All in all, it'd be a great Pokemon to have. |
Do you think the introduction of Steel-types in Gen II was necessary?
Well, given the strength of Psychic-types back in 1st Gen, I think the addition of Dark and Steel was good move by Game Freak. There was very little that could stop Psychic-types back then, not to mention Bug-types were so weak back then. It's all part of a balancing measure, sorta like what happened when Fairy-types were added in 6th Gen after it was realized the impressive stats and movepools of Dragon-types was causing such a problem they had to try and nerf the type in some way. If Steel-types did not exist today, there would have been some Pokemon that would not have existed today had it not been implemented. Steel-types are also common in competitive play due to the mass amount of resistances they have, and like what good old Narnia said above, if Steel-types would not have existed today the type chart would have been a disaster. |
If any steel pokemon could exist in real life I'd probably want Skarmory as well, for most of the reasons listed above.

If there is one thing you can improve on Steel-type in general (ex. moves, Pokemon), what would it be?
I'd improve slightly on their overall perception from fans. When one thinks of steel-types, the first thing that probably comes to a new player's mind are intimidating Pokemon that are slow but defensive. But really that isn't all of them. I don't like how a majority of them have this "come near me and I'll rip your head off" image. Every type needs balance amongst the designs. Some cute ones, some intimidating ones, while its nice to have such a powerful type, they kind of needed to balance it out more design-wise. The only cute steel-type I can think of right now is Aron and even then that stare is just unsettling. They mainly just need to stop giving all steel-types that 'intimidating' look because its just getting bland and boring. And honestly I want more steel-type stat raising moves. Shift Gear on its own is kind of sad. :I |
... you guys would have a Skarmory in real life? The heck is wrong with you all - that thing is terrifying! You'd wake up to find it looming over you about to rip your throat out whilst you're busy worrying about all the slashes and cuts you've had to deal with from touching it. Not a good Pokémon to have! I'd much prefer something like Bronzor - it's so damn cute and just think of all the ways you could use his psychic powers haha.

If there is one thing you can improve on Steel-type in general (ex. moves, Pokemon), what would it be?
Pretty much agreeing on everything that Sophie said as well as there needs to be more Steel type moves that are specially based. I am more of a fan of Special Attackers and there is currently what? 1 specially based Steel type attack(Flash Cannon). I know that Steel types don't have a lot of coverage and this probably wouldn't see much use, but would be fun regardless. Also please give us a baby Steel Pokemon! As Sophie previously stated there aren't many cute Steel Pokemon out there maybe aside from Bronzor and having a baby Steel Pokemon would be fabulous! It might take away from some of that intimidation factor that is usually associated with Steel types. |
Hello! I want to join this Club. :3
Username/Nickname: Radiance Partner(s) - You can pick up to 2 different Partners from the list below: Skarmory, Bastiodon What made you join this club? The love for cold steel types! <3 What is your favorite Steel-type Pokémon? Bastiodon If there is one thing you can improve on Steel-type in general (ex. moves, Pokemon), what would it be? I would have to say the variety of Pokemon. There aren't enough Steel types. There are also not enough of Steel-type moves. There's just not a lot to use. The designs are epic though! :P |
Welcome to this club as well Radiance! You picked 2 really interesting Pokemon as partners that I both really like. Both really have a niche in being able to tank hits while also being able to set up hazards. Bastidon also has Sturdy and Metal Burst combo that if played correctly can guarantee a KO of your opponent. I also agree with you that we need more Steel types. Such an underrated type that never gets enough love so GF really needs to put them out there and have more for people to love. You can never have enough Steel Pokemon! <3

Welcome, Radiance! I'll put you in the members list shortly.
Also to give some fresh new things to talk about in this club, I present a new topic: Which Steel-type Pokemon do you use the most often, be it your in-game party or competitive scene? |
The Steel types that I probably use the most often are Skarmory and Bronzong. I use these more from a competitive scene because they are certainly more useful in that effect. Both have excellent defenses, access to entry hazards, and can really annoy the opponent. Skarmory can Whirlwind away your stat boosts and Bronzong can set up dual screens for your team. Overall two really great Pokemon. =]

Welcome to the club, Shizzable! What an interesting username you have. I like it! Aggron has always stood out to me as one of the most underrated Steel Pokemon. He probably isn't used much because of his bad typing, having a double weakness to fighting, but he is incredibly powerful. I have recently started using him and I have been very pleased =] |
Welcome to the club, Shizzable! I'll add you to the members list shortly.
I always use Steel type Pokemon in rain, particularly Scizor. Steel + Rain = Match made in heaven. |
Which Steel-type Pokemon do you use the most often, be it your in-game party or competitive scene?
I probably use Scizor the most. He's one of the more powerful ones and he's used by others quite often. |
I will have to agree with you guys there. Scizor is really awesome and especially in rain. Cutting down on his only weakness makes him a force to mess with. He can unleash a powerful attack on nearly any Pokemon!
