Favorite Final Evolution Fire Starter

It was bothering me that there were voting threads only for the Grass and Water starters, so I'll create the poll mahself :U

Beginning-Middle evolutions don't count. Which final evo is your favorite?

Firox August 27th, 2013 9:41 PM

I'm going with Typhlosion - none of the other fire starters even catch my attention or look exciting for me. Cyndaquil/Quilava/Typhlosion is the only fire type I have used before, in my Soul Silver game.

Just for fun, if I were to rank them in order of my favorites:
1 - Typholosion
2 - Emboar
3 - Infernape
4 - Charizard
5 - Blaziken

Snowdrop August 27th, 2013 9:44 PM

I gotta go with the ever-so-classic Charizard. It really is almost perfect. Typhlosion is also great, I just happen to prefer dragons to... wolverines? I appreciate that Nintendo challenged itself by tying to make a chicken into something epic (and they kinda did) but I'm not that big a fan of Blaziken. I hate monkeys so therefore I hate Infernape. And Emboar is too ugly for me, but I love the concept behind it.

Orifiel August 27th, 2013 9:59 PM

Enough with Charizard.
Typhlosion is dependable as ever.
-
that's my opinion, I kindly don't accept yours.

Hikamaru August 27th, 2013 10:18 PM

I voted Infernape, mainly due to being a mixed attacker and the fact he's a monkey on fire! And my Chinese Zodiac sign is the monkey so no wonder I often picked Chimchar on most of my playthroughs of Diamond, Pearl and Platinum.

Brendino August 28th, 2013 12:47 AM

For some reason I've never cared for the Fire-type starters, other than Charizard. Even then, I don't like Charizard as much as I did when I was younger, but I really feel it's the one I dislike the least out of this list.

In fact, if I were to rate them in order, it would probably go chronologically, with Charizard in first and Emboar in last.

Kikaito plush August 28th, 2013 1:09 AM

the only one I like is Blazekin as it is the first and best fire/fighting starter.

Rivuhh August 28th, 2013 2:14 AM

I have to go with Charizard since I did a pretty strong Solo run with him when I was younger. Typhlosion is pretty cool, but I always used Feraligatr. Except for in Pokemon Colleseum. Blaziken would definitely be my second choice. He carried me through Emerald until the end. Infernape I used once and had troubles with him. Empoleon was more my style. And I haven't played generations past that, really.

Foxrally August 28th, 2013 2:21 AM

I've never really liked Fire Starters.

I never got to play with Charizard (started off with Gen. 3 as a kid), I absolutely hated Blaziken's design, I was keen on Infernape but I found him to be too overrated and overused, and Emboar was just... bad.

The only one I think deserves recognition is Typhlosion, mainly becuase of two things.

First, I absolutely loved Cyndaquil and Quilava, and second, he was the only sole-fire type of the starters, so he had this kind of "rebel" feel.

kosuke August 28th, 2013 2:29 AM

I really don't care about Fire starters, but Typhlosion..
Mainly because of these reasons:
  • it has cool design
  • unlike the other fire starters, its a pure fire type which i really like
  • its whole evo line looks really good
  • it can learn thunderpunch, and i kind of like thunder type attacks
  • and many more...maybe

so that's much like it. FULL FORCE TYPHLOSION!!!^^

I still have not voted,
both Blaziken and Infernape's position tied in mind...
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1427/11035794/19606271/407457762.jpgOh! I couldn't make up my mind!http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1427/11035794/19606271/407457760.jpg

Though I can at least give my opinions,
regarding all Fire-type starters.
I love all starters, weak or strong.
Because they are all starter,
they represent their respective regions they debuted in.

  • Charizard was actually my most favorite Fire-type back in Gen I. Since there were no other Fire-type starters at that time yet., naturally Charizard along with his other two peers shared the same high position in my heart.
  • Typhlosion replaced Charizard's position when Gen II debuted, he kicks a--, he can learn Thunder Punch and even if one is lucky, one may have a Typhlosion with Hidden Power Ice, thus creating a pseudo bolt-beam combo, which can even shatter Lance's team!
  • Generation III debuted, my first thought of Blaziken was rather strange. She has much more colors than her predecessors, she's a combination of a humanoid and a chicken. Blaziken along with other Hoenn games debuted Pokemon, started the revolution of Pokemon designs, in terms of complicated designs and more vibrant coloring. She is the pioneer of Fire and Fighting starters. I didn't hate her, I just thought that she was kind of odd looking. As time progress, the debut of Fr/Lg made me realized that I love this Pokemon so much that I want her to be part of my team, as early as Pre-National Dex and Pre-Elite Four.
  • So 2006 was the debut of Infernape, I didn't care about him since I was so crazy about Piplup and his evolution relatives. An old friend of mine bred his Infernape, that was how I first get to know more about this Pokemon. I love his Speed and respectable offensive power, he was the reason why I love-hate the moves Flare Blitz and Close Combat. Surprisingly he did not replace Blaziken's position, rather they both share that same spot till these days(and hopefully Fennekin's evolutions won't kick you two out, like how Swampert wiped out both Feraligtr and Blastoise's position!).
  • I have to be very honest that I was tired of seeing Fire/Fighting starters. One of the good things that Emboar possessed is his ability to learn Scald and Wild Charge, though I was not that impressed about being him being slower and not having high defensive stat. At the time when he was leaked I was expecting him to be a very bulky Pokemon like Swampert, but reality says no. Naturally Emboar was locked in the limbo along with Charizard and Typhlosion.

That reminds me this,
everyone must seen this already.
But the artist just depicted what was in my mind,
when Gen VI was officially announced.

I actually like them all. Fire starters were always my favorites, and I also really like the fighting/fire combo. It's been overdone, certainly, but Blaziken was awesome in the game (plus it looks cool) and Infernape was even better imo. Emboar has a great design, imo. Charizard and Typhlosion are a bit less impressive, but Charizard will always be awesome in my eyes and Typhlosion was one of the best pokémon to have in-game in Johto, so I like them too.

Maybe Infernape if I had to choose, just because of its design and typing. And because of Monferno. ALSO PINK SHINY.
http://sprites.pokecheck.org/i/392.gif http://sprites.pokecheck.org/s/392.gif Though Emboar's shiny is really the best. http://sprites.pokecheck.org/s/500.gif

For me, it has to be Charizard. I was truly amazed when I've first seen this Pokémon. I used to think that it was a legendary Pokémon of some sorts. Typhlosion has gotta be my second favorite. I always used to have this Pokémon on my team in Pokémon Silver. Blaziken would be the third, because it's got an awesome look.

XeroNos August 30th, 2013 2:36 AM

Because Charizard has some decent moves as well as my favorite typing. So I vote for it

Altair August 30th, 2013 4:34 AM

Charizard happens to be my favourite. I find it's Dragon like appearance and it's typing interesting. It really owns in FireRed version!
Typhlosion is a close second, it's an amazing starter Pokemon, but Charizard will always be number one in my view.

Palkia August 30th, 2013 4:46 AM

Blaziken is probably my favourite. It's the original Fire/Fighting Pokémon, and is one of the most powerful starters in battle and has a great design - not too simple yet complex enough to be a true threat on the battlefield.

Emboar is the worst though; It's a cheap rip-off of a cheap rip-off. It's also got a clunky design and is irritatingly slow.

Squirrel August 30th, 2013 8:54 AM

The poll results are really interesting, it seems they've been less popular as each generation progresses - poor Emboar! Will this trend follow for Fennekin I wonder?

My favourite's Infernape. It's a crazy badass ape warrior with fire for hair and evolves from the darn cutest Pokémon alive. I use Infernape a lot in competitive battling and although he may not be as cute as Typhlosion or as strong as Blaziken, he's by far the coolest of the lot and he's the most fun to use. Certainly my favourite!

Snowdrop August 30th, 2013 9:19 AM

Yeah, you're right, but it also roughly seems to follow the popularity of the beings themselves... people go gaga for dragons, they tend to like wolverines or at least mammals that have that sort of head/body shape, Blaziken is a ninja but it's still a rooster, Infernape is a... well, ape, and it seems that people either love or hate them. And pigs are just generally unpopular animals. Of course, like I said, this is really broad and kind of spotty, but it's just an observation. Based on this, I'd say Fennekin is going to be a very popular little fox!

EDIT: Of course, nostalgia plays a big part! But I genuinely think that people would still find Charizard/Typhlosion more appealing than Emboar/Infernape if they had swapped generations. But that's just what I think.

Sirfetch’d August 30th, 2013 1:16 PM

My vote went to Blaziken without hesitation. Blaziken is the final evolution of my favorite starter of all time. It is the original Fire/Fighting starter and the best. Blaziken has amazing speed and power with a great DW ability, Speed Boost. Overall this is just an amazing Pokemon that will always be one of my favorites.

Blaziken was also IIRC primarily a mixed attacker before it was banned.
Emboar can also use a mixed attacking set in RU.

I choose Infernape because Blaziken is Uber and therefore sucks, plus Infernape looks cooler. Charizard and Typloshion are just plain overrated, and Emboar is ok but I don't like it as much as Infernape.

Ayselipera September 3rd, 2013 9:58 AM

Blaziken easily. I've never abused a starter so much before in any game. For me it's literally the perfect design, concept, and typing for a starter. It ends up being so versatile and usable throughout the whole game and with that said in any game you play it in.

It just really makes me sad that last two starts have been the same typing. They took a good thing and ruined it wahhh

Boilurn September 4th, 2013 6:41 AM

Blaziken is my favorite as it's really cool to use. Despite the fact that it's not a part Flying-type it's still a bird, and I have a passion for birds, so yeah.

Cassandra September 4th, 2013 7:06 AM

Used to be Charizard, but then Stealth Rock happened. Now if I ever use a fire starter it's either Blaziken or Infernape.

alisaie September 4th, 2013 7:53 AM

Typhlosion! For some reason I've never liked Blaziken as much as many others do (I do like him though!) as well as the other Fire Staters. I suppose Typhlosion just has a special place in my heart or something.

Flushed September 4th, 2013 1:48 PM

I liked Blaziken back in the RSE days, but not so much anymore. The Fire/Fighting thing just doesn't do it for me. Typhlosion is the only real fire type in here, although that's not entirely why I pick it.
