Luvdisc: Good or Bad?

Ok so here's another one for you what do you think of Luvdisc I've never used one and always end up forgetting it's in the game ~_~

What do you think? :)

Sydian August 29th, 2013 10:19 AM

Luvdisc is...eh. I used it for the Valentine's Day challenge, and it was okay, but it's severely outclassed by pretty much every other Water type in the game. I like Luvidsc personally, but I know it's generally hated by Pokemon fans.

btw, I hope you don't make a habit of making these kinds of threads for every Pokemon in RSE. They're okay for certain Pokemon, but just don't go overboard and fill the whole forum with them.

Hufen iâ August 29th, 2013 10:23 AM

Haha Don't worry I might make one or two other ones on Underrated Pokemon :D

Telinc1 August 29th, 2013 10:23 AM

While Luvdisc is an... interesting? Pokémon, I have never used it and I don't plan on using it either. It has kind of good speed, but really low HP. Its low defence and special defence stats don't help either. While there are Pokémon with bad HP and defence but good attack, Luvdisc doesn't even have a good attack stat.

So, while Luvdisc would be really interesting for a challenge run (maybe even a Nuzlocke run?), I personally don't like its stats, so my answer is bad.

Name August 29th, 2013 11:03 AM

Luvdisc is cute, I'd keep one in an aquarium just to look at it.
For movies (i know that's a diff generation) or contests I'd enter a luvdisc, because look at it!
I'd let it stay at home rather than use it for battles though. . .

Sirfetch’d August 29th, 2013 1:18 PM

Luvdisc is an adorable Pokemon that I will always remember because of it's cute little design, but it is a horrible Pokemon in battle. There is really no way that this Pokemon can compete with others. So yea, it's a balance of good and bad.

blue August 29th, 2013 1:29 PM

Luvdisc is a cute, well designed Pokémon, it may not have the best stats but it's a pretty little Pokémon don'tcha think?

Precious Tears August 30th, 2013 12:52 AM

She's not the best when it comes to battle,
but she's great in when it comes to Pokemon Contests!

XeroNos August 30th, 2013 2:13 AM

Luvdisc is a cute looking pokemon who unfortunately is hated by most of the fans though. If you talk about it as a contest poke then it's good otherwise in battling it's quite weak

Aeroblast August 31st, 2013 8:16 AM

Short version: It sucks.

Long version: Maybe it sees more use in contests, just like Sunkern in Pokeathlon, but other than that, I don't see the appeal in its design, I don't see the appeal in its stats, and overall, it's nothing more than a gimmick, which inevitably means, it sucks.

Amore August 31st, 2013 2:19 PM

I kinda like it. Would never use it (unless it's good in pokéathlon in Gen IV) but I was still pretty proud when I finally caught my first one the other day (I'd always thought they were found west of Pacifidlog Town, rather than west of Ever Grande City, which might have been part of the issue).
Holding Heart Scales is also a very useful thing to do. Plus, they'd be good for EV training an electric-type such as Manectric or Raichu in Speed.
Even with its awful stats (other than speed) it would be quite good except its movepool is typically limited for a water-type. I think they should've given it Psychic moves.

Sheep August 31st, 2013 2:33 PM

It's cute but when it comes to battles it just.. doesn't do very well. :( I only really caught one for the Pokedex. Afterwards I mostly fought them for Heart Scales.

PlatinumDude August 31st, 2013 4:40 PM

While Luvdisc is cute, and is a good way of farming Heart Scales, it's a very weak Pokemon in the end. Its movepool is terrible too

Hikamaru August 31st, 2013 7:00 PM

Luvdisc may look adorable as heck, but its stats ensure it sucks in battle. It does make a good method of obtaining Heart Scales though.

Aslan August 31st, 2013 7:54 PM

Luvdisc is a cutiepie but you kind of have to judge a book by its cover here. Almost every single water-type bar Feebas/Magikarp outrates it in almost every way possible. Stats? Luvdisc's stats are horrible and a two-year old could get past it. Overall look of toughness? Its a smoochy valentine's fish, how tough is that? Not very. Arguably the only purpose Luvdisc serves is Heart Scales and the only reason you'd probably use it in competitive is to pull off Sweet Kiss/Toxic/scald burn. But this can be performed by so many other Pokemon and Luvdisc just doesn't have the ability to stall or damage. Luvdisc you're adorable but you're not gonna be the next Pokemon master. Sorry. :p

tsubaki9 August 31st, 2013 8:20 PM

I think it's not good.
Yes, it's cute but it sucks at battling.
I always catch it for Heart Scales.

Dark Zapdos September 1st, 2013 10:51 AM

Never liked it, thought it was a lazy design and it's stats are abysmal

Sweets Witch September 2nd, 2013 5:53 AM

Bad stats, so-so design, etc. etc. etc. etc.

Personally, I thought its design was really creepy because of the beak. For some reason the beak throws me off a lot. But that didn't stop me from catching like 40 of them for their Heart Scales.

Falsever September 5th, 2013 4:52 AM

I don't really like its design, it's just a heart with a face, nothing else.
Not just a design, it has horrible stats, I can't even use it in the battle.
But well, it's not bad in contests, I won the contest with my Luvdisc.
So in my opinion, it's bad in battles but good in contests.

Magic Magikarp September 5th, 2013 7:55 AM

NO NO NO! Besides the fact that they hold heart scales, nifty. Interesting that they did that so we can reteach moves easier but still NO! Don't even catch them just use Theif. Waste of balls, they'd just end up in the PC box of doom for eternity next to my Linoone slave and Azumarill (no hard feelings Azumarill)

AkameTheBulbasaur September 8th, 2013 5:08 PM

I think it's kind of cute, actually. I have one named Blaise on Pearl version. I haven't used her yet, but I might later. I like using Pokemon that other people wouldn't dare use in battle and trying to beat the game with it as a challenge. I figure since I beat the Elite Four with a Kricketune, using a Luvdisc can't be too much harder... ... ... Right?

Xaldin September 11th, 2013 11:12 AM

It was cute looking for me. I had a certain thing going for it,but it didn't catch on as much as vanillite did for me.

PhoenixSoul September 12th, 2013 2:32 AM

Luvdisc is cute and is a good heart scale source but apart from that it doesn't really stand out. You can't really use it in a battle since it's outclassed by many water types so I hope that it get's some kind of evolution that would help it come into the spotlight. :)

Brendino September 12th, 2013 11:57 PM

Luvdisc is a cute looking Pokemon, but other than that and getting a few extra Heart Scales off them, I really didn't care for it (it might've had it's use in contests, but I never really did those). Plus, it disappointed me that for looking so similar to Alomomola, the two aren't related at all, which leaves Luvdisc outclassed in terms of battling.

Cerberus87 September 13th, 2013 12:32 AM

Luvdisc was a gimmick they invented to provide the player with Heart Scales. It has since become unneeded because there are other ways to farm for Heart Scales in recent games. Another one of the many forgettable Pokémon in 3rd gen.

Ari Niko September 28th, 2013 9:10 PM

I would never, they annoy me in the water and I only catch them for the Pokédex completion.

Actor September 28th, 2013 11:42 PM

I only really caught luvdisc while farming for heart scales, and that was before I had a pokemon with the move theif to get the heart scales.

nnnnnnnnnnn

I never thought to use thief to get the scales. Now Imma steal this tactic from you :D

Altair September 30th, 2013 8:30 PM

Luvdisc isn't so great at all... I only caught them for the Pokedex and Heart Scales.

Honestly, why didn't I think of doing this when I was younger at the time? *sigh* It's so much simpler than catching them! haha

Guardian September 30th, 2013 10:32 PM

I really liked it the first time I encountered it. I never used one though, looks a bit weak...and too pink. xD

Negix October 1st, 2013 8:46 PM

I never really had a thing for it. The first time I saw it, what I thought was, "What the heck is this thing?" I thought it was a rather dull design, and the Pokemon was only good for getting Heart Scales.

FrostyFire October 3rd, 2013 8:58 AM

When I got my first copy of ruby, I caught one to see how good it was. I liked the simple design, but it doesn't really have a place on any team I've made. It's basically just there as filler in the pokedex, as far as I'm concerned.

DynamicD October 3rd, 2013 5:12 PM

Luvdisc really needs an Evolution, because it is NOT a pokemon you want to take to the league. Alomomola could've been a great evolution for Luvdisc.

Maybe in the 6th Gen they'll link them?

It would be good to see some action for Luvdisc, and would make it be a little more useful.

AluminiumOxide October 6th, 2013 5:40 AM

I don't like luvdisk pretty much i don't think i have played with it cause i don't like it.

and luvdisk doesn't look like a beast cause i like beast looking pokemons like Aggron or Swampert but no doubt that Luvdisk is a very very cute pokemon.

MaoMint October 6th, 2013 6:05 AM

Luvdisc is cute - I can say that I like it but I have never really used it.
I might someday though! I think it's a pity though that Alomomola wasn't it's evolution. 3: They look so similar too!

But whether it's good or bad.. I suppose that really depends on what it's for? The stats truly aren't the greatest but I choose my Pokémon by which I like rather than by their stats.

lmcde22 October 10th, 2013 5:27 PM

"Luvdisc is a Pokemon and amazingly not some strange Kantonian brand of condoms. One part heart, one part one of those weird highlighters shaped like triangles, Luvdisc is all useless. This Pokemon is a living example of how the creators just totally ran out of ideas by the third generation. They ran out of animals to base Pokemon off of, so they moved onto inanimate objects (or in this case, horrifyingly personified, abstract representations of inanimate objects). No thanks."
-AiPT

this pretty much sums up Luvdisc

[TTOTD]maxie526 October 12th, 2013 4:28 PM

I can't help but wonder if this is a serious question or just a joke. Forgive me if I sound rude, but if you've ever caught one and looked at the stats of that thing you'll see that it's utterly useless for battling. Sure, some people might use it just because of how it looks and because the anime teaches us to care about our Pokemon, friendship is important, no one gets left behind, etc... But in the games, that simply doesn't work out. How you treat your Pokemon does NOT affect the stats in any way, it is only useful if you're trying to make a certain Pokemon evolve like Golbat.

Elysieum October 18th, 2013 12:01 PM

It's only appeal is the cutesy factor, sadly. Never had one on my team and I don't even know what its stats are like, but a terrible battler can be spotted from miles away.

magolor October 29th, 2013 7:06 PM

I think it's kind of cute, and it's a nice feature that you need them to get heart scales.
But, really, when you think about it...

why does it not evolve into alomomola

Hiatus October 29th, 2013 7:51 PM

When it comes to design, I really like Luvdisc. I think it's quite creative. It's got a heart-like shape, a pinkish body color, and a cute-looking face. What's not to like? Could put them into a fish bowl if you have one, and they'd liven up your house in an instant! Battling-wise, though… Luvdisc is, unfortunately, not that great. d: It has a base Speed of ninety-seven, which is good, but the rest of its stats are extremely low—especially defenses. Both of its defensive stats are near sixty, so if it ever gets struck by an attack like Giga Drain or Brave Bird, it's finished. Although it has a range of hard-hitting attacks in its movepool, it can't take full advantage of them due to having poor offenses. Luvdisc could make a good staller if you teach it Toxic, Sweet Kiss, Attract, and Protect, but you'd have to utilize very wisely. If you make one silly mistake, then your opponent could take it out in an instant.

I hope that they give an evolution to Luvdisc at some point in the future. That way, its stats would be fixed up a little and help it become more useful when battling. Either that, or they could give it a mega-evolution. I'd be fine with anything, to be honest, so long it gets something. (:

Batty October 29th, 2013 11:34 PM

Luvdisc had mediocre stats. Unless someone is particularly fond of it's aesthetics, I see no reason why one would use it in R/S/E when there are many superior alternatives available.

Olli November 2nd, 2013 7:36 AM

Ehh, I don't really know how to feel about Luvdisc. I mean, it definitely has a cute design, and I actually really liked the idea of having a heart-shaped Pokemon. But sadly, the design is the only thing I could really see people liking about the Pokemon. It definitely doesn't have any traits aside from the heart scales that I could really see to be interesting, its performance in battle is especially not something to be amazed by, and generally, it's just down there. Well, that's at least what I've been able to deduce from the one time I actually used one, along with every other opinion I've ever heard about the Pokemon :p

One thing I'm very disappointed by however, is the huge opportunity to actually make it somewhat useful they let down, by not making it evolve into Alomola! I mean, despite not having a clue what Luvdisc is actually supposed to be, they both have similar shapes, and literally everyone and their mother has been pointing it out :p Admittedly, I don't have a clue whether Alomola is good or not, but it definitely hasn't gotten the same amount of hate Luvdisc has, so I imagine it to be an improvement in any case ;)

NestorPrida November 7th, 2013 4:50 PM

Worst Pokemon ever!, no use soever

dark pursuit November 8th, 2013 4:48 AM

luvdisc: bad. only catch it for the possibility that it's holding a heart scale.

SidDays November 8th, 2013 5:54 AM

I used to love it before I realized stats were a thing :(

Typhon November 8th, 2013 7:49 AM

When I first saw it, I thought it was definitely interesting, I had taken quite a liking to it, and I thought it had an evolution. So I caught one, and looked at it's stats. They were horrible, with a horrible nature lmao. I was like "It must have an evolution!". I was dumb, and I trained it for a good while. I got tired, so I searched online and it had noo evolution. I literally released it, despite training it so many levels. :(

It's stats aren't horrible like Magikarp. I guess you could say it's one of those "filler" Pokémon, which are added just to fill up the Pokédex. Similar to Dunsparce, but they have better stats.

RoboMan2010 November 9th, 2013 8:51 PM

Very cute and well designed, I don't know why anyone would hate
