After the Fall '13
Daily Chit-Chat

Welcome to After the Fall, ladies and gentleman, also known as the aftermath of the Summer 2013 DCC! In this thread, we deal with the psychological ramifications of the end of summer and returning from the wonder and whimsy of vacation to the cold, hard reality of school, work, and life in general. Sound depressing? Well, it is a little bit. Sorry about that. I'm not your mother, I'm not your hugger. You want some love? Get a puppy.

So while you have sleepless nights saying goodbye to relaxation, freedom and all the ice cream you can carry, you should come give this cold new DCC a warm welcome! As anyone who knows me well will know, I haven't slept through the night since I first saw The Wizard of Oz, thank you Mom.

So just be sure to follow the rules and it'll be Summer again before you know it! Well not really, but do it anyway. A friendly reminder as to what those rules are:

  • Stick with the current topic! If you don't like the current topic, or don't know anything about it, and wish to talk about something else, you have a few options, none of which are "blatantly post something off topic". You can either post something related to the current topic and slyly put what you want to talk about there, or simply try your best with the topic at hand. Anything other than that will be considered off topic.
  • Try to keep up! So you want to talk about the current topic but don't know what it's about. Instead of asking what the current topic is, read a few posts and find out for yourself. It's not that difficult, and would only take a minute or two.
  • Converse. Don't just make a post saying "Hi DCC, what's up?!" and leave it at that. Posts of that nature will be considered off topic.
  • The 25 characters/4 words rule. Like it or not, this one must be followed.
  • No trolling/flaming/hating. This thread is meant to be a light hearted one, but if Dipu or I notice things are going out of hand, we won't hesitate to butt in. Light-hearted as it may be, it still follows PC's rules.

And that's it from me! SO START POSTING AND HAVING FUN, YOU CRAZY PEOPLE. I'mma go catch a cold. Man I hate Fall.

Palkia September 22nd, 2013 2:13 AM

Sooo Americans call autumn fall? Strange.

Anyway, it's been very cold and grey weather-wise where I live; about a month ago it was very hot and humid. :/

Hikamaru September 22nd, 2013 2:25 AM

Yeah I always find it weird.

Speaking of the weather, it's like getting hotter here because of spring. I'm on the opposites as far as seasons go.

Legendary Silke September 22nd, 2013 2:32 AM

Fall, autumn, I don't really care about calling it what. :)

Synerjee September 22nd, 2013 2:37 AM

My country doesn't have fall/autumn. I wish it had, but if one day I wake up to find all the trees in my neighbourhood in lovely shades of red, yellow and brown, something is very wrong with our planet for sure.

TY September 22nd, 2013 2:40 AM

We just skip Autumn/Fall and go straight into winter, nothing red/orange/yellowish but dead looking trees :/

Legendary Silke September 22nd, 2013 2:49 AM

I wish the entire world got seasons. Summer all year round is boring as heck.

Palkia September 22nd, 2013 2:53 AM

To be honest I'm happy that summer is over as I suffer from terrible hayfever and have to take antihistamines to ward it off.

Nolafus September 22nd, 2013 2:58 AM

Yup, I just wore a hoodie today, that means that fall is here. Or, I guess it's autumn if you're Para-dox or Hikari10. You guys are so weird. Yeah, it's one of those things that separates America, kind of like the metric system compared with our american measurement system. Why are we so weird?

It would really suck if you were stuck at summer all year round.

Shining Raichu September 22nd, 2013 3:00 AM

I thought hayfever was a Spring thing, what's it doing lingering into the summer?

Hikamaru September 22nd, 2013 3:05 AM

Well some countries are very close to or on the equator so they don't get to experience seasons a lot like most other countries would.

Hiatus September 22nd, 2013 3:08 AM

I'm glad that summer is over. For me, the only way to stay cool during the summer was by being indoors, which could get a little boring if you don't have anything to keep yourself busy with. If I stood outdoors for even more than five minutes, then I would immediately start sweating. I usually took three-four showers during the summer just to keep all the sweat away from my body. xD

Treecko September 22nd, 2013 3:14 AM

Woo new DCC. (Wanted to try to get on the first page. :P )

I love fall honestly, my favorite season! Weather's nice I can wear hoodies and jeans and the trees are beautiful looking. I'm so glad the hotter weather is done with! It got over or near 100 here some days and with no woking AC that's awful. D: I love this time of year cause it's not too hot and not too cold. (Well except end of November and December). Though it is weird know in the Eastern Hemisphere it's spring. I guess how the Earth works I guess.

Legendary Silke September 22nd, 2013 3:39 AM

You know, I really should find some time to experience winter. Spring and fall, I've seen them both by having a holiday somewhere else... but not winter. Not yet, not yet. Not that I'd have the wardrobe for them...

Treecko September 22nd, 2013 3:58 AM

I need more winter/fall clothes honestly. Most of my wardrobe consists on shorter sleeved shirts. While the shirts, hoodie and jean I have will keep me warm most of the fall, once it gets colder in late November and all December, then probably not. I have 3 long sleeved shirts (two of those plaid button downs ) and only one hoodie I actually wear so I definitely need more longer sleeved stuff.

skyluigi2 September 22nd, 2013 4:00 AM

Autumn's pretty nice. The different coloured leaves make things look awesome! Plus I'm not a fan of warm weather, so the fact that it's getting cooler now is great. This year feels like it's gone by really fast...!

Starry Windy September 22nd, 2013 4:26 AM

I heard autumn is nice, but because I'm in tropical area, I haven't got a chance to see it in real life. I wish I can see it when I venture to another country.

blue September 22nd, 2013 4:28 AM

I like Autumn, it gets much colder and the days get shorter and the nights get longer.. which I like!

Hikamaru September 22nd, 2013 4:32 AM

I'm actually more of a summer person, it's because autumn and winter is the time I have to wear jeans, my least fave item of clothing. I've got something against them I have to admit given my mother tries to make me wear them even when the weather turns out hot.

Tsutarja September 22nd, 2013 4:40 AM

Yay new DCC! :D

Even though I'm American, I think I say Autumn more than Fall, haha.. the meteorological term is Autumn, and since I used to be a weather fanatic (maybe I still am?), I refer to it by its proper name.

Legendary Silke September 22nd, 2013 6:25 AM

It's funny when you see both in the same paragraph. :)

Aeroblast September 22nd, 2013 7:05 AM

I don't like Autumn, even if it includes my birthday. All those falling leaves make the streets dirty.

Tsutarja September 22nd, 2013 7:11 AM

I love Autumn as soon as September exits and October comes in.. and maybe it's just me, but I wish the trees down here in Florida changed colors as well so that they aren't green year-round ):

Though sometimes the trees here do tend to get a little orange-colored if it stays chilly for extended amounts of time (which it has in the past).

Catalyst. September 22nd, 2013 7:26 AM

I love Autumn. Summer is easily my least favorite season - too hot, bugs, everything is busy.. :( I find the perfect temperature to be between 10 and -5 degrees Celsius, so Autumn is pretty good. Winter's the best though, skiing awww yeah :P

Edit: First page woo \o/

Kotone September 22nd, 2013 7:50 AM

i love the Fall. that means hoodies and boots (:

alisaie September 22nd, 2013 7:53 AM

ughh yesss. Cooler temperatures, hoodies, less mosquitos. Autumn is amazing here in Florida. Well when it is cooler. We still get those fun warm temperatures when a heat spell comes by but overall Autumn is one more step slower to winter.

On the downside less pool time. Oh well. :(

Kanzler September 22nd, 2013 7:57 AM

Mmmm the amazing thing about autumn in Canada is having none of the hot weather of summer but all of the short shorts :D Oh, also more yoga pants, more appropriate for la fitnesse. And then being Canadian we wear our short shorts all year round, except for the month of February.

Sirfetch’d September 22nd, 2013 8:04 AM

I think the most amazing thing is the lower humidity. It is always so hot and humid here and I will be welcoming the cooler temperatures so much. I also love the beautiful colors of the leaves that change, although there isn't so much of that in Alabama.

Tsutarja September 22nd, 2013 8:28 AM

Hoodiesssssss :3

I seriously can't wait for the days to come when I can wear hoodies and pants. I love dressing for colder temperatures and days without rain and lower humidity in Florida (:

Sirfetch’d September 22nd, 2013 8:29 AM

I love hoodies! I wear one everyday once Fall gets here because they are so much more comfortable than a standard jacket and I love being able to put my hands in the front pocket to keep warm :3

Netto Azure September 22nd, 2013 8:36 AM

For some reason the title reminded me of SnK.

Then again the big reveal and whatnot.

Livewire September 22nd, 2013 8:37 AM

It's a perfect mix of cooler air, less humidity, and plenty of Yoga Pants. It's heaven on earth.

Plus I can break out my sexy sweater collection.

Sirfetch’d September 22nd, 2013 8:39 AM

Speaking of sweaters and hoodies, I really need to make a trip to the mall and pick up a couple for this year as most of mine are getting a little small and faded.

Legendary Silke September 22nd, 2013 8:48 AM

Sometimes I wish weather can be borrowed at will.

Shiny Celebi September 22nd, 2013 9:03 AM

I probably should make a trip to my favorite clothing store, I don't go there often enough and all the clothes in my size will probably be gone, what's worse, they do not have an online store so I can't order them.

For fall I need to buy long sleeve shirts, I seem to never have enough of those, though I have many sweaters. It's probably going to get to that time where it's too cool for short sleeves but too warm for sweaters soonish.

Sirfetch’d September 22nd, 2013 10:37 AM

I just ordered a hoodie online which should arrive sometime next week! Too bad I won't need it for another month or two, but it will be good to already have it :D

Nolafus September 22nd, 2013 10:48 AM

I actually wore a hoodie to church this morning! I love hoodies, they're so nice and warm. Plus I have a signature blue hoodie look around this time of year. Even if I get new hoodies, they have to be blue. It's like my trademark.

Sirfetch’d September 22nd, 2013 10:50 AM

I like blue hoodies as well because it is my favorite color! However, I will wear one of any color as long as it isn't orange. Don't get me wrong I love the color, but it just doesn't look good on me.

Nolafus September 22nd, 2013 10:53 AM

I wouldn't wear orange either. It would look really weird with my orange-ish hair. It might look good on some people, but not on me.

Synerjee September 22nd, 2013 11:08 AM

Aww you guys get to wear hoodies outdoors! You're making me jelly ;-; My hoodies all hang mostly unused in my closet unless I decide to wear them, which is very unlikely given the everlasting hot and humid weather.

I don't have a blue hoodie. I wants one! :3 Blue is one of my top favourite colours, next to red. Speaking of which, I don't have a red hoodie either... Not like I'll be really needing it anyways~

Crux September 22nd, 2013 11:47 AM

Oh, a new Dcc. . .

I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume that the topic is hoodies.
I don't really wear 'em. :x

blue September 22nd, 2013 11:57 AM

I've got several different hoodies, I wear some of them but now that we're coming into the colder months I think I'll start wearing them more often.

Tsutarja September 22nd, 2013 1:13 PM

Since I'm one of those people who actually choose to dress appropriately depending on how the weather outside is, I'm still dressing in just t-shirts and shorts.. though I really cannot wait for the time to come around when I can wear pants and a hoodie at all.

Sirfetch’d September 22nd, 2013 1:25 PM

As much as I am looking forward to cool weather and hoodies, I am not looking forward to wearing pants. I find them so uncomfortable and would much rather just wear shorts all year if possible.

Sheep September 22nd, 2013 1:31 PM

Yay new DCC. :D

I love fall though. Beautiful weather and I can finally start wearing hoodies and my new awesome sneakers.

Ryoutarou September 22nd, 2013 1:43 PM

I'm not the biggest fan of the summer, so I've literally been counting down to this day. I've always loved fall and winter weather and the ambiance that comes with this time of year. Also it means I don't have to deal with the terrible heat during my drives to school soon enough.

(and winter clothing is just awesome)

Honest September 22nd, 2013 2:20 PM

Aw, missed the first page. :c

And fall is awesome only cause I'm an October baby. ;D

I know right!! I wish that I could just fast forward through the rest of the month up until the 12th.

Honest September 22nd, 2013 2:33 PM

There's so much TV to catch up on, though. And isn't Fall the season premier season, anyway? Nng. I need a DVR.

Sirfetch’d September 22nd, 2013 2:34 PM

Speaking of catching up on TV, I need to finish catching up on Breaking Bad before the finale. Only a little more of season 3 to go before I start 4!

Tsutarja September 22nd, 2013 2:36 PM

I don't watch a whole lot of TV, and the shows that I do watch I'm all caught up on pretty much.

My parents watch a lot of NCIS though, and they're anticipating the season premiere of that this Tuesday on CBS.

Honest September 22nd, 2013 2:40 PM

CHASE. I'M STILL ON THE SAME EPISODE FROM LAST TIME. WTF.

And NCIS LA is a pretty amazing show, must admit.

I pulled 2 all nighters watching it because I was so hooked ;; I haven't watched any today though which is surprising.

I've never seen NCIS :[

Nolafus September 22nd, 2013 4:22 PM

I haven't seen NCIS either. I just never got into it.

I don't watch a lot of TV, and all the shows I were into ended their season last Wednesday. Those shows would be America's Got Talent and Big Brother. Other than those shows, I don't really watch TV much.

Hiatus September 22nd, 2013 5:41 PM

I've seen only one of their episodes. Well, I haven't actually seen it, but I had it on TV while I was doing some work on my computer. I've watched a lot of Law & Order episodes in my high school government class, though. It was a criminal show, just like NCIS.

I don't watch too many TV shows either, unfortunately. I only watch a few sport shows on occasion and also some cartoon shows, like Adventure Time and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. d:

Shiny Celebi September 22nd, 2013 6:03 PM

NCIS is alright, however I find it nothing special. It does seem to have more humor included than some other crime shows though. Im mostly a fan of Law and Order SVU, I just find it better.

alisaie September 22nd, 2013 6:11 PM

I like NCIS but I never managed to get into it enough to actually follow the show itself. I do enjoy it whenever it comes on television and I happen to catch it though. The crime show I actually followed for a while was Criminal Minds but after missing an episode or two I fell behind and haven't been able to catch up since. The same with Psych but that'll be fixed once the latest season comes out on Netflix.

Shiny Celebi September 22nd, 2013 6:41 PM

I find Criminal Minds a little bit more intense than L&O and L&O SVU. It's not really my favorite, Ive also watched CSI on a number of occasions but I think that's nothing special either.

Honest September 22nd, 2013 7:26 PM

Oh man, any Bones fans here? Emily Deschanel. <3

That is another show that I have added to my watch list ;; I am so far behind on everything.

Nolafus September 22nd, 2013 7:52 PM

I haven't watched Bones, but I did get into Criminal Minds after a while. Eventually I just kind of set it on the back burner and now I'll watch it if it's on, but I don't keep up with it.

TwilightBlade September 22nd, 2013 7:55 PM

I've watched Bones before, but it's only because I'm bored and I want to watch TV while having dinner. SVU is another I'll watch when bored. I don't watch a lot of TV except for Breaking Bad and How I Met Your Mother.

Honest September 22nd, 2013 7:59 PM

HIMYM is on its final season, and I'm still on season one. Awesome-sauce.

Hiatus September 22nd, 2013 9:23 PM

I've never watched Bones before, and to be honest, I have never heard about it either. xD I might've seen one of its commercials on TV, but I can't exactly be sure.

My mom and my sister watches How I Met Your Mother, but as for me, I never really got into it. The only episode that I have ever watched from this show was when Barney revealed that Bob Barker was his real father. I have no idea what this episode is called, but I think it was a part of season two.

Entermaid September 22nd, 2013 9:30 PM

As a crime show fiend, I will chime in with my favorite shows, as well as my least favorite shows. Green=Love; Orange=Like; Red=Dislike

1. Criminal Minds is the best crime-investigation show! RIP Emily Prentiss :(
The show balances the large cast, the characters' personal background, and the story-line of the various sociopaths and psychopaths they hunt down. Also, the stories are MEMORABLE and DISTINCT.

2. Bones, I love David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel. The show isn't as great as it was back in the day, but it's still the great mix of humor, intense action, and lots of fancy technology. Sometimes it does go board on the personal lives rather than the cases.

3. NCIS is pretty good, I wish there were more characters like criminal minds. The group dynamic is great though!

4. Coldcase, I have to say it is often a hit or miss. The character background is not strong, but the story lines of the people involved with the murdered person usually makes up for this. I love the injection of history and culture amid the various time periods of US history. As a whole though, it's a bunch of short stories with no connective thread between episodes with the recurring character development.

5. SVU, or, as I like to call it, SUV! This is a good show, but it does get fairly monotonous and the acting is pretty flat in comparison to the shows aforementioned. The show is unbalanced, and should just be called the Mariska show. She is pretty overestimated though :/ The storylines seem to repeat themselves over and over, I just find it to be hard to watch more than an occasional episode when nothing else is on.

6. Criminal Intent has the same issues as SVU, the only interesting character is Vicent Donofrio. The other characters might as well not be there. Though some of the scenes are really great, it's just monotonous given the limitations of the cast.

7 & 8. CSI Miami and NY, incredibly boring storylines with a cast to match. Though, I would say the forensics are interesting to watch.

9. NCIS LA, I will sum it up with this, "why?" All of the lackluster characteristics of some of these other shows magnified by ten. Even the acting is bad!

Legendary Silke September 22nd, 2013 9:32 PM

I'm beginning to wonder whether I should get hold of DVD collections of crime shows

Meganium September 22nd, 2013 9:38 PM

Finish please so we can fangirl :(

Hiatus September 22nd, 2013 11:19 PM

I'm not a huge fan of The Walking Dead. I've watched one of their episodes from season two, but I've switched the channel after just three-six minutes. It's not a bad show or anything, but it just isn't for me. To be honest, I don't like anything that's horror. I've watched a horror movie last year called Silent Night, and it left me feeling quite nervous for almost three straight weeks. xD" I've watched it only because a few of my friends wanted me to. If it wasn't for them, then I probably wouldn't have seen it.

Yeah The Walking Dead is certainly a show that isn't for everyone. It's really you like it or you don't because of the type of show it is. It doesn't fit the taste for quite a large audience. For those of us who do like it though, we cannot wait :D Only 20 more days!

Tsutarja September 23rd, 2013 3:54 AM

The Walking Dead is a show maybe I'd be interested in (same with Breaking Bad) because everyone I know keeps talking about the two, but I would have to catch up with both of them via Netflix, and I don't have Netflix at all :(

Nathan September 23rd, 2013 5:51 AM

TWD is a cool show but I'm only at Season 2. Plenty of time before S4, thankfully.

Honest September 23rd, 2013 5:58 AM

All these season 2 Slowpokes. Come on guys, you gotta catch season 3 TWD! That was definitely by far the best season thus far.

I endorse this statement 100%

Hikamaru September 23rd, 2013 6:59 AM

I'm one heck of a Slowpoke for sure as far as that The Walking Dead goes, because it's on cable TV where I am and I don't even have it! I really need to study more on the series to see what the fuss is about.

You really should if you get the chance because it is such an amazing and intense show. I was someone who never thought that I would like it, but I was instantly hooked on it.

Nathan September 23rd, 2013 7:06 AM

I'm trying to catch on the series. I'd join the club but so much spoilers...

Meganium September 23rd, 2013 8:09 AM

Who ya callin' slowpokes? I'm almost done with the entire show xD

& yeah, I'm hoping to join in the group but I'll be spoiled in the season finale. So imma wait. :P

Tsutarja September 23rd, 2013 8:33 AM

You guys are really tempting to make me convince my parents to get Netflix to watch the series >_>

But I'm kinda upset how AMC doesn't allow for free downloads to their shows if you're a cable/satellite subscriber and use your login credentials.. several other cable networks already do that and allow you to watch the channel online too

alisaie September 23rd, 2013 9:00 AM

I don't believe my sister or I watched the third Walking Dead season on Netflix yet. I think I started to lose attention after season one though oops. I'm very picky about my horror I guess. But if season three is better then I guess we'll just have to see if we get around to watching it!

I've heard about Sons of Anarchy but I've never watched it myself.

Tsutarja September 23rd, 2013 9:15 AM

I've heard about Sons of Anarchy as well, but never really gotten to known even the synopsis or the background behind the show at all..

Most of the time whenever I first hear about a TV show, even if it's been on for several years/seasons, it seems like a lot of people talk about it at the same time. Happened for The Walking Dead two years ago and now it's the same with Breaking Bad.. I guess I'm just that far out of the loop when it comes to watching shows on TV.

A lot of people stopped watching after season 1 because of how slow season 2 was, but season 3 really makes up for that and I say you should give it another go :D

I have also never watched SoA, but I might actually like it and I need to give it a shot too.

Honest September 23rd, 2013 1:22 PM

Oh, I actually haven't heard anything about Sons of Anarchy in a very long time, is that show still on air?

And god, season 2 was so slow. Only great part was was happened right before the midseason finale. Which brings something else up, why the **** do they even have those. >>

Meganium September 23rd, 2013 1:53 PM

As someone who took the time to watch season 2 of TWD, you should give yourself some patience because all the character development that goes on during the season will come back on season 3, and I say it's worth watching.

Yeah, I can agree with this. I know personally I became so connected with so many of the characters because of the development that they got in season 2 and I feel that it was worth the tradeoff of less action for the development.

I like what I saw of Glen so far in S2. Still dunno whether Sophia is dead or not.
Don't spoil! tyvm

Glen got some great development in season 2 and that led him to being one of my favorite characters in the entire series.

So this is officially The Walking DCC? If it's not, then it sure seems like it doesn't it?

I would support The Walking DCC. It's kinda appropriate since it is one of the upcoming shows this Fall ;D

Fall in America, Autumn in the rest of the world.
I either call it "Herfst" (Dutch), or "Jesień" (Polish), depending on the person I talk to.
But in the end, I end up using both words frequently.

Or "The Walker Daily Chit-Chat"

Or "The DCC for The Walking Dead"

I got nothing. xD

Maybe it's just me, but looks like I've seen the title of DCC with this one several months ago. That doesn't mean it can't be used though.

Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you guys are walking (or running) in the morning? I remember I did walking on forests on occasion, and I like the fresh air when in there.

Aeroblast September 23rd, 2013 8:32 PM

Hmm... I see everyone talking about this thing called walking dead, and season and stuff. Could anybody care to elaborate?

Kanzler September 23rd, 2013 8:41 PM

It's when you have dead, and then they walk.

Holy ****, that sounds scary.

What is a dead anyways? A ghost?

Synerjee September 23rd, 2013 9:30 PM

The Walking Dead. Mm... Is it 'safe' to watch if you tend to have quite severe paranoia after watching horror movies? I remember watching Paranormal Activity 1 and 2 and being very paranoid the following nights for about a week. :I
