Original Kindles are 6 inches and Kindle Fires are 7 inches in size. I don't like the Kindle Fire or even the Nook tablet though because you have to root them to get the full experience of Android.

Nolafus October 16th, 2013 5:13 PM

I don't have a tablet or plan on getting one. I have a laptop and an I-pod touch. That's good enough for me. Plus I have a lot of stuff on my I-pod that I don't want to lose.

Tsutarja October 16th, 2013 5:15 PM

Oh gosh, ever since I got my tablet I've pretty much stopped using both my laptop and my iPod Touch, though I'll still use my iPod touch for music.

Nolafus October 16th, 2013 5:34 PM

I hardly ever use my I-pod touch anymore since I got my laptop. The only times I'll use it is when I'm making music or listening to it while I mow the lawn.

Honest October 16th, 2013 5:37 PM

How difficult is it to type on a tablet? Might as well ask, since I'll be using mine in place of my laptop as soon as I get it.

I'd imagine that the Surface 2 would have a cover available for it just like the original Surface and the Surface RT. So you might want to look into one of those if you can.

As for my experience, I'm not really much of a typer on my tablet since I use Swype to get my words, and it certainly is much easier than having to type character-for-character, but I'm not sure if any similar keyboards exist for Windows.

Kanzler October 16th, 2013 6:31 PM

Is it worth learning Swype? I can type pretty quickly regularly, iunno if it's worth the time to learn how to do it another way.

Honest October 16th, 2013 6:35 PM

I don't know if it's worth it, but it's definitely something fun to use. =P

And the keyboard costs extra. Might get it in the future, but for now, eh.

Tsutarja October 16th, 2013 6:35 PM

Swype is pretty fun to use and can have a mind of its own with typos, but if you're just as good with typing on the Android keyboard, then I'd stay with that. But yes, if you want to learn how to use Swype, then I would certainly recommend it :D

Kanzler October 16th, 2013 6:48 PM

meh too lazy. do not want to put in sunk costs.

Tsutarja October 16th, 2013 6:50 PM

There's a free version of Swype and a paid version.. also John, I think Dipu was referring to my post above about the Surface keyboard and not Swype :P

I don't know if it's "efficient", but it sure is fun :p

Treecko October 16th, 2013 6:53 PM

Swype looks pretty hard. I've tried finger swiping keyboards before and I had a hard time using them. I don't see a use for it. I can type well normally.

It's basically typing with your thumbs but not lifting your thumbs :p

Kanzler October 16th, 2013 7:02 PM

I have a strange feeling that keeping your thumbs down the whole time takes more effort. No thanks.

Tsutarja October 16th, 2013 7:04 PM

I don't even type with my thumbs on my tablet's keyboard.. it's mostly my index finger I use Swype with. I know, I'm weird like that ._.

Kanzler October 16th, 2013 7:06 PM

I don't like tablets. They're a couple inches too big for me.

Aeroblast October 16th, 2013 7:14 PM

I could never use Swype if my life depended on it.

Nolafus October 16th, 2013 7:29 PM

I'm really, terribly sorry, but...

That's what she said! :V

Anyway... I'm on the same boat as Seattle. I bet I could learn it if I really wanted to, but I saw some friends use it and I got lost immediately.

Meganium October 16th, 2013 7:58 PM

Ugh, don't use Swype. It's the absolute worst. I use the android keyboooooard. :D

Starry Windy October 17th, 2013 12:56 AM

I'm still lucky that I can buy an Android phone with the (real) keyboard in it that I don't have to type on screen most of the time, but I wonder if I'll be comfortable typing in screen via Android keyboard if I happen to buy a new one.

Sirfetch’d October 17th, 2013 2:11 AM

It was difficult typing on the screen for the first time when I got my iPhone, but I can now do it much faster as opposed to using a keyboard which is odd.

Although I still enjoy using it myself, Swype itself at this point is pretty much a deprecated keyboard layout, simply because gesture typing exists on the Android keyboard now, and it functions in the same (or similar) way as Swype.

There are indeed some Android phone models that still come with physical keyboards to this day, so don't feel bad about that. And using an on-screen keyboard really shouldn't be as different as using a physical keyboard, especially since the keys are the same size on screen as they are physically.

That was the same with me when I got my iPod Touch 4G.. I thought I was gonna have a hard time typing on it but my fingers adapted to it really quickly.

I'm having the biggest throwback Thursday ever right now. Listening to Backstreet Boys, N Sync, 2007 Paramore. D:

Eep, I forgot how much I actually liked Misery Business.

Nolafus October 17th, 2013 7:58 AM

I remember the Backstreet Boys. I went to a concert of theirs when I was around 5 years old. I don't remember much about it, but I think it was fun. I haven't went to a concert since, however.
