Favorite Attack Animation?
So what was your Favorite Attack Animation?
For me it was Mud Shot, I just really like the circles going up and down it a wave it looks really cool :) |
In generation three, Thunderbolt had one of my favorite attack animations. It hit your opponent with a few strokes of lightning, which was able to leave them paralyzed. Flamethrower had a nice-looking animation as well. It was simple, yet effective. It was able to signify how Pokémon were tossing flames out of their mouth just perfectly. (:
Thunder! Shock wave was pretty cool too.
Thunder, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Fire Blast, Psybeam, Aurora Beam, Discharge, Shock Wave, Dragon Pulse. <3 All of them have very pretty animations and are mostly really powerful attacks too. I'm sure there are many others, but these are the ones at the top of my head.
Sky uppercut was so sick, same with seismic toss.
It's doom desire, clearly. Nobody really knows about it, though.
I really liked the animations of both Blaze Kick and Leaf Blade. This is probably because they were unique to Blaziken and Sceptile respectively, but I just found them to be awesome. They really had that appearance of a powerful attack which I found really cool.
in 3 gen
Thunder Volt tackle Doom desire Moonlight |
Good Question, Ice Beam & Hail!
Muddy Water http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ec20fb7f.gif
The dark surf animation >>>>>>>> Meteor Mash was also dope http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ec20fb7f.gif |
I love Aerial Ace, it looks incredible speedy and simple, yet sleek and decent.

Thunder, it's just so damn cool. All that lightning coming down shocking them.
they finally got surf right.
but on the other hand they totally ruined aeroblast awesomeness in gen2 |
Mauddy water ! The brown surf :D !
Thunder, Sky Uppercut, and Flamethrower. Solar Beam is cool too.
The two favorite attack animations that I can remember off the top of my head were Thunder, and the one I was surprised to see a few people mention- Muddy Water. Thunder's easily awesome as you can tell by Purple-Hued Vulture's .gif, and Muddy Water was the first time I'd seen the new Surf animation in the 3rd gen, except it wasn't boring and transparent like Surf was.
the only one I can remember liking is shockwave.
Solar Beam was amazing :D
I really liked the animations of Shockwave, Ice Beam and Moonlight. Out of these three, Moonlight had the best animation.
Cool attack animations and overall a good Pokemon to use.
Thunder and Solar Beam looked pretty awesome. I was a little disappointed with Hyper Beam, though.
flamethower has a cool animation. Also ice beam is cool.
For some reason, I like Surf. Water in the screen? YES.
superpower is totally badass. meteor mash too. leaf blade is cool
Hmmmm... I like thunderbolt, moonlight, leaf blade and solarbeam. Looks really cool and sweet ^^
Surf and Thunderbolt! Something about them was really satisfying to watch. Maybe it's because they annihilated almost anything in the third generation for me, aha. xD;;
I was really impressed with Thunder's animation when I first saw it used in a contest I was participating in. I also like Leaf Blade, looks awesome, slice n' dice!
For Me I Like Psychic It is Very Simple :3
I like brick break. I love the way it shows the reflect/light screen breaking.
I think that tri attack was cool because they nailed the animation on all three parts of the attack
A lot of people are saying Thunder, and I have to agree. You legitimately felt like a champion using that move, and it looked extremely powerful, too.
I'm actually also going to say Brick Break, too. Like zomgitscathy said a few posts above me, I loved see it actually breaking through the screen. It always made me feel like, "Ha, you're not strong enough to defend against me!" |
Rollout. Need I say more?
I like the animations of Ice Beam, Thunderbolt and Flamethrower because they look so dynamic. For nostalgia, it's Mud Shot, from spamming it all the time.
As long as it has circles, yeah. Bubble, Bubblebeam, Mud Shot and the like. One of my favorites without circles include Ice Beam, Surf, Muddy Water, Flamethrower, Petal Dance, Sweet Scent and Moonlight (I think it still counts as a circle)
I LOVE toxic... It's amazing, the sound effect is also nice, solarbeam is also a good one.
Oh, I just remembered, Cosmic Power! That was the coolest attack ever!
Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon, and Thunder were always really cool to me because of how it made the opponent's Pokemon go into negative color for a moment. That's why Tri Attack is so cool as well. It combines Fire Blast, Blizzard, and Thunder with that cool negative effect.
Some other awesome ones are Rollout, Brick Break, Fly, Superpower, and Giga Drain. |
Definitely Blast Burn and Dragon Rage. Can't help but love flames shooting up from the ground!
Eruption on Groudon or Metronome :D
Hyperbeam
Thunder Solarbeam Volt Tackle |
Thunder followed closely by Magikarp's splash.
Thunder,Volt tackle ...cool

I loved the shock wave animation.
Leaf Blade. It feels good having Sceptile on my team!!!
Thunder, Thunderbolt, Shock Wave, Hydro Pump, Mud Shot, Solar Beam, Overheat, Eruption, Blizzard, Fissure, Ice Beam, Hydro Cannon, Blast Burn, Frenzy Plant and Extreme Speed.
They're all cool! |
Thunder bolt and Ice beam, these beautiful attacks! <3 I wanna add sing..
Probably Dragon Claw and Doom Desire were my favorites by far. Some runner ups were Leaf Blade, Blaze Kick, Surf, Dragonbreath, Crunch, and Fire Blast.

Thunder, Blizzard, Aurora Beam is the best :D
Auora beam is a great animated Move (I almost forgot about it ) And Tell me more about why you like them ?
I like Surf and Thunder in FRLF. And aurora beam in pokemon Stadium!
Extremespeed. It's so cool to see Rayquaza disappear and beat the other pokemon down (with the moving background), then reappear.
Thunder.

Yeah.... I really like when the dark cloud come out. And when the thunder hits the foe ! gosh too cool. And Doom desire come with a great name. But i only used doom desire once as it only can be teach to legendaries if i'm right.
i loved leaf blade, muddy water, auaura beam, and tri attack. but leaf blade would have to be my favorite. the way they all moved the same direction and really quick too. it was awesome. and the slash that showed after it, that was really cool
Cosmic Power is my favorite 3rd gen animation, but for actual attacks - definitely Thunder. *-* It looks incredible.
i think the coolest is dizzy punch, FLY LITTLE BIRDIES FLY!!!
I really like the animation for thunder, since its all dark and quiet and then BAAM!!
Sky uppercut, its animation is just so awesome!
I am a big fan of Ice Beam's animation. I love how you can see the crystals.
Flamethrower, thunder, extreme speed, Fire blast, Surf, sky uppercut, hyper beam, hydro pump are the ones that come to my head.
If i head to choose only one: Flamethrower Burn baby Burn (i love fire) |
Volt Tackle, and thunderbolt.
They look super badass, but I like thunderbolt better. |
I thought Fire Blast was awesome, especially in Pokemon Stadium (I know that's not Gen III.
Another great one was Aurora beam! It looked so pretty :3 |
I agree with anyone who said Aurora Beam. It was so pretty in Gen 3 :3
Leaf Blade, Thunder, Thunderbolt and Muddy Water are my favourite ones :3
For the handheld games, I really like Thunder. The look of those clouds swirling, and then the huge lighning strike is amazing.
In Pokemon Colosseum, basically all of the attacks looked awesome, but I'd have to say flamethrower looked sick! The Pokemon charges up and releases this huge beam of flaming napalm. The moves looked a lot more wimpy in XD. I don't know why GameFreak changed them, but I do like XD's Ice Beam. It's this giant spiky rod of ice that grows and shoots towards the foe. Flamethrower (Colosseum) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGWPA5KrAHo&feature=player_detailpage#t=357 Ice Beam (XD: Gale of Darkness) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvpj_htRLdU&feature=player_detailpage#t=392 http://www.serebii.net/Toolbar/xd2.jpghttp:// |
Thunderbolt always looked amazing to me. As a kid, and even now. I don't know why, but it just looked so powerful!
You always expect it to do a ton of damage to Water-Types, and it does. (Even to bulky Pokémon like Walrein!) Another favorite of mine was Aurora Beam. It had it's own background, and the beam was very beautiful indeed! I can't say if they looked better in the further generations because I don't quite remember how they look like :o |
I bet many people agree with me super power
Fire Blast, Recover, and Hyper Beam were all really cool for me, at least. In future generations, the Hyper Beam didn't have the multicolored particles, which I really liked. A similar instance of that was Ice Beam, where they changed it from the crystal particles to a straight beam. Disappointing...
With the Recover orbs, I could always feel that sense of "Gahhhhhh" everytime someone used it. And that rising sound effect just was icing on the already awesome cake. And Fire Blast has always been amazing. Having a giant Kanji symbol that says "FIRE" when you use it is just wicked. |
Leaf Blade's animation is pretty epic. Always loved it. The blades slashing up and down was always fascinating. Close second is Steel Wing. I liked how they combined Wing Attack with a Steel type move's sheen.
hand down dragonbreath and thunder. Shock wave is pretty cool too. I also felt like dragon breath looked more like flamethrower than flamethrower did [just throwing that out there].
Thunder or Muddy Water. Though I haven't seen every move to fairly judge :P
Gosh this is tough, they're all so nice and a huge upgrade from the second generation. I guess I always really admired the artwork in Sheer Cold, so that's definitely one of my top picks. Psychic and Thunder are up there as well, and to round out the top five I'll throw in Solar Beam and Tri Attack! n__n;
I loved the animation of Superpower because it look so cool when it seemed like your pokemon was lifting the earth!
My favourite was Leaf Blade for sure, Sceptile slicing everything to death. I often found myself copying the animation with my arms in the air... don't do this in public.
i think my favourite attack animation is a toss-up between volt tackle and fire blast. the overall quality of the animation has substantially improved from the days of red/blue. fire blast actually looks really freaking awesome in gen 3 to be honest.
Ice beam baby.. I'm so sorry...
Aside from the aforementioned Superpower, I really liked Hydro Pump's animation in Gen III. Those twin shots of water look boss together, and I actually like it more than its animations in the later generations.
Water Pulse, Hydro Pump and Surf pretty much had my fave attack animations of 3rd Gen. Shows how cool Water moves looked in a region that's full of it. Oh, and Water Gun involving a water droplet thrown onto the opponent was kinda funny especially compared to the later animations of the move.
I also realize that Icy Wind looks really damn cool. *heh "cool"
http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/1/19/Icy_Wind_III.png From Bulbapedia |
Blast burn for me, i spammed it on my Charizard, even if he had to recharge after :p
Leaf Blade was definitely my favorite, I clearly remember transferring one of my Sceptiles and using it in Generation 4 and being very disappointed by the animation change. I really loved how a lot of animations were pretty simple in Gen 3, like Signal Beam and Ice Beam.

I really liked Outrage. It looks just like what the move's called - an outrage. Complete with crazy circling and fire sprites. n_n
I don't know why, but Blast Burn honestly looked sick for me, also good ol' ones like Flamethrower, Ice Beam or Surf look pretty cool.
To me, Eruption had the coolest animation of Gen 3; it was very fun to watch my Camerupt rain destruction down on my opponents >:D the background turning red and the screen shaking greatly added to the visual effect of the move as well
Thunder is my personal favourite, although Tri Attack, Sheer Cold and Blast Burn were all particularly memorable as well.
Oh, and I like how Return's animation changed depending on how close your Pokemon was to you. The screen darkening and the multiple hits becoming stronger and stronger really gave you a sense that you'd raised that Pokemon right. |
My favorite attack animation was definitely Brick Break. It looked really cool when Hitmonlee used it. I hate how they made it looked in 4th Gen and on.
Call me strange, but... Will-O-Wisp. Sorry. It's just... really funny to watch. My second pick would be Ice Beam tho. It's sound effect was pretty HM02 as well. :p
