SO many hoenn references

Idk about you guys but I have talked to like 10 trainers that have a reference to the hoenn region. Also there are some references to the sinnoh region as well even the e4 drasna is from sinnoh. I'm not going to get my hopes up but I have a feeling there is a very good chance of a hoenn remake. Have you guys also noticed these references :p? (I have a feeling gf is trolling us lolz)

Killjoy October 15th, 2013 12:14 PM

I'm sure they'll bring out the remake sometime. Frankly I see no better time than now, so I'll buy into the idea

Princess Diana October 15th, 2013 12:15 PM

There are also quite a lot of Sinnoh references. I am conflicted on whether I should get excited about it (Hoenn) or not.

Liberal Army October 15th, 2013 12:22 PM

There's also someone in a hotel saying he is from a far away place you'll be seeing soon. This is just very interesting

Lol unless that's out of context that almost confirms it

Ic3Kreemz October 15th, 2013 1:07 PM

Also, i didnt mention this but if you listen closely dueing the champion battle theme at 0:46 you kinda hear a bit of the deoxys battle music. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtyfIAk8bhU&list=PLlqYDm10p4urt_idTzjf-7uxuLYet_cgb

That could also be confirming Gen 7 though, so for now it means nothing to this.

I don't see that as ' soon' though. Gen 7 won't be for at least a few years

I NEVER belived that music could lead to something, they could just be using similar tones, they do that quite often.

Ic3Kreemz October 15th, 2013 2:42 PM

Yeah i know but some of the music here had a little bits that remind me of hoenn so that could also be a hidden hint lol.

murkage October 15th, 2013 2:45 PM

What about Gary!? he is in Kalos

countryemo October 15th, 2013 2:49 PM

This is my favorite generation 2nd to hoenns, the rails, the tall tall grass, a power plant, team flare looks like magma a little bit, a bunch of hoenn pokemon (which might just say here's your pokemon, no remakes).

Gen 7 will not be for several years so it is more likely that they will be making a Hoenn remake before they make a gen 7

He is where? I wanna see him!

The Legend of Zorra October 15th, 2013 4:59 PM

The MC of the game supposedly moved to Kalos from another region, and it's always possible that by "another region" they're hinting to revisiting Hoenn. They don't usually mention "other regions" so much unless there's something on the horizon.

sfxworks October 15th, 2013 5:28 PM

Didn't the hoenns say they traveled often to different regions?..

Neither will Hoenn remakes. At least a two year gap from the main games so its an either or thing. Then again it may not be anything in particular. We discovered that all the apparent hints in Gen 5 were all completely false. What's to keep these from being false as well?

As for the supposed Hints...I've only ever found one and that's of the lady speaking of Lavaridge. All references to other regions I've seen and heard were to Sinnoh and Kanto. I've actually lost count of how many times Sinnoh was referenced.

Gen 5 had the most references to other regions. We didn't get squat.

Also there is no DLC for X and Y. We're not getting any DLC. http://www.nintendonews.com/2013/10/pokemon-x-pokemon-y-no-dlc-in-development-no-current-plans/

Blue/Green/Gary Oak references right here:

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire October 15th, 2013 6:43 PM

@ Xander There's more than just one. I've seen a few, including someone say this in a hotel (irc in Lumiose city : "The 40th anniversary is the Ruby anniversary and the 45th is the Sapphire." A reference to the actual names of the games! Also get this...his wife mentions their first date was at the Oceanic museum...which is in Hoenn! That's the most significant reference I've seen.
However they also reference Kanto,Johto, Sinnoh, and Unova...but not by referencing the names of those games...
Over all though Kalos has more references to past regions than the Unova or Sinnoh games did...which were a lot...

Rivvon October 15th, 2013 6:55 PM

One child also outright says their uncle is from Hoenn, and a swimmer says he swam all the way from Hoenn but still has enough energy to battle, in addition to the references already mentioned in the thread.

I like how there are so many references to other regions, mainly because it places the games in context. One guy in some PokéCenter says Team Plasma was making news "some time ago," so we know that chronologically, X and Y takes place after gen 5.

What I find the most interesting, though, is that in X and Y your family just moved from "another region" into Kalos, and the only other game where that happens is Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, where your family moves into Hoenn from Johto! It's an indirect reference, but it's a nice one!

They were from Johto? Well according to the X & Y anime looks like we moved from Kanto!

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire October 15th, 2013 8:23 PM

@ Rivvon. It could also take place before B2W2...as Team Plasma had that 2 year gap in their activity...though it could also be slightly after B2W2 (as he said awhile back).

Yeah Brandon/May come from Johto...it was used as a hint for GS remakes...they came out around 6 years later...but still a hint.

I like it how they have the artwork of the past regions in the museum...though no Hoenn artwork that actually shows the physical region...unlike Sinnoh (it's BF), Johto, Kanto, and Unova...wonder why...

Iceshadow3317 October 15th, 2013 9:01 PM

There is more than people think I go around and talk to every single person if I see them. There is more than some think. I can't remember where they all are, but I have seen many people bring up Hoenn the most by far. One even said he swam from Hoenn and still wasn't tired. This was in the bay near the Sea Spirit Den.

The reason they probably didn't bring Hoenn remakes out for DS was because they had already had 1 remake for DS and already had plans to move to 3DS so the simply held off. There is indeed refs for the other generations, but not the same amount as Hoenn and Hoenn is the only region we cannot get to on a DS. There is now over about 200 pokemon we can't catch and they are not forceing us to use the Poke Bank.

Deokishisu October 15th, 2013 9:36 PM

I'm more interested in the timeline question for Hoenn. It's implied that Hoenn takes place during Red's journey through Kanto, which places Ruby and Sapphire happening at the same time as Red/Blue/Green/Yellow/Firered/Leafgreen. Naturally, this means that Brenden and May started their journey 3 years prior to Gold/Silver/Crystal/Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/Heartgold/Soulsilver, as DPP starts as Team Rocket is messing with the Lake of Rage, and GSC/HGSS is 3 years after RGBY/FRLG. We know that Black and White is set sometime after HGSS, and Black 2 and White 2 are two years after BW. Kalos is hinted to be happening after Team Plasma makes headlines, which means that X and Y could be set anytime after the original Black and White. If the Hoenn remakes happen, there will have to be a LOT of timeline retconning. Luckily, we have a few time traveling Pokemon and mechanisms already established in the series. I just hope that they don't ignore the issue and fail to mention it at all. Trading from my Black to Black2 was jarring enough from a story perspective. But, at the same time, I don't want to jump through hoops in order to connect to Kalos, like what we had to do to trade to Hoenn from FRLG Kanto.

It's also fun to muse about where Colosseum and XD stand on the timeline. If Colosseum happens at the same time as RGBY/RSE/FRLG, then XD happens sometime after Johto and Sinnoh, as XD is five years after Colosseum. Also, you can trade from XD to a GBA game and then into Colosseum with no time travel shenanigans. Curse you ambiguous timeline!

Still, I think Gamefreak did an excellent job with HGSS, and I'm super excited to see a Kalos-quality Hoenn. I'm confident that if remakes are coming, they'll probably end up being the best games in the series, with more throwback references than HGSS had, and a bunch of cameos and continuity nods for fanservice. Maybe we'll even get WiiU remakes of Colosseum and XD? I mean, the 3rd gen made a huge jump up in terms of hardware (I'd argue that the jump was bigger than the jump from GBA to DS) and it was our longest and biggest generation ever. Similarly, jumping up to the 3DS was huge! Perhaps they'll attempt to copy the third gen formula for this generation. Also, I haven't seen many Johto Pokemon in Kalos, and there weren't many in Hoenn; we're starting to see a similar pattern in Pokemon distribution as in Gen 3, which required Colosseum and XD to give us access to Johto Pokemon. With no native backwards compatibility, we're in a way cut off from the older games, like with Hoenn.

I may be thinking too much into this, I'm sure you can tell how much I loved the third generation and all that it brought to the table.

Bro Strider October 15th, 2013 11:54 PM

Hoenn references aren't just in X and Y, either. There were a lot in The Black and White series. It's really exciting to me, because it does seem to be hinting at the possibility of a remake, or at least revisiting the region. I would honestly love it because Hoenn is and will probably always be my favorite. I would love to see it in 3D.
