Are shinies too easy to find in Gen 6?

Hi,
I found 4 Shinies in 2 days by chain fishing so do you all think shinies are not as rare as they used to be?

xRekke October 24th, 2013 6:27 PM

Chain fishing increases the chance of finding shinies just like chaining with pokeradar.

If you think is easy, try not to chain and run in the wild ...

-Slick- October 24th, 2013 6:27 PM

In the past 48 hours I have captured 3 shiny slugmas, a shiny fraxure, a shiny growlithe, a shiny charmeleon, and then a shiny Braixen...all this within the past 48 hours. And they weren't even found with the fishing method, pokeradar or the masuda method either. I feel like the more shinies I encounter, the higher chance I have of finding more, I don't know if anyone else feels that way too.

Oblivion Wing October 24th, 2013 6:33 PM

I've never encounted a shiny pkmn in the wild :/ would love to though.

Numix October 24th, 2013 6:33 PM

MM'ing for an eevee...5 full boxes of them and still no shiny.

Aaron40 October 24th, 2013 6:33 PM

I like it how it is easy to find a shiny while chain fishing

Ditto (pun intended)

I thought I had a shiny Paras earlier, but I looked it up and it was just an updated color scheme of it.

Mithel_Celestia October 24th, 2013 7:01 PM

At least you got some. I didn't even manage to find a single shiny. ;_;

Aeroblast October 24th, 2013 7:43 PM

50 hours, 0 shinies. Lady luck continues to elude me when it comes to shinies bar that one shiny starter Cyndaquil. (Not counting any that I RNG'd over time)

This includes a 131 fishing streak that went to naught.

Azire October 24th, 2013 7:48 PM

No I don't think it's too easy. They still aren't the easiest to find and it's not like most of the will have the correct Nature/IV. That makes breeding still the best way to get Pokemon and shinies are still hard to get that way.

Ig Pokemon Lover October 24th, 2013 7:52 PM

Their not easy to me i haven't found a shiny yet anywhere.

BraveNewWorld October 24th, 2013 7:54 PM

I've set out to catch 'em all, which means deliberately running into a ton of Pokemon, and still haven't encountered a shiny.

AceTrainerWatson October 24th, 2013 7:56 PM

I've never been good at PokeRadar chaining, anyone have any good tips?

rivinus October 24th, 2013 8:07 PM

I have captured 1 shiny shelmet in the wild, and 1 shiny Meditite from the Friend Safari. I have read somewhere that the chances of encountering a shiny is bigger inside the Friend Safari more than the wild.

AuroraBeam October 24th, 2013 8:09 PM

Well I'm in 70 hours of game play and still haven't seen a single shiny, not even in the friend safari. I guess some of us are lucky and some of us remain unlucky. I'm still waiting to find my first shiny ever. Fish chaining/pokeradar of course increase your chances but I seem to suck at both.

Perpetr8r October 24th, 2013 9:21 PM

I MM bred a shiny Eevee after 11 other Eevee by chance, and so far have chained three shinies using the pokeradar. In the wild, though, I haven't really encountered any shiny Pokemon ever. I think there's definitely an increased chance, but not so much that they've become common except for some very lucky people.

Also...

I have a thread going *over here* which explains an experimental updated method for chaining shinies in X/Y specifically. So far it seems a bit easier than the D/P methods and allows for chaining in smaller patches of grass. Ultimately though, practice (and failing a lot) is the best method to become a chaining pro!

XxCassiexX October 24th, 2013 11:29 PM

Yep. I've gotten 9 shinies in 3 days. =P

iAmEcchi October 24th, 2013 11:30 PM

I found 4 in 2 hours today.

skyluigi2 October 24th, 2013 11:34 PM

...Nope. Like AuroraBeam, I haven't found a single shiny in countless hours of playing. I've even attempted chain fishing with no success. Seems some of us just are naturally unlucky when it comes to shinies.

Layla-Mai October 25th, 2013 12:14 AM

I don't think they're too easy. I'm lucky, I've found shinies in most gens before but a lot of people I know have never seen one. Shinies still aren't common, but I think it's nice that the odds aren't quite so bad. Yeah chain fishing is easy, but there's no certainty in what you'll get. I haven't had anything I'll use!

In gen 4, all so many people did was RNG. Shinies were a sure thing! At least right now it takes a bit of work and a bit of time, but you can get the odd shiny yourself without them (so far) ending up really common.

Kiara October 25th, 2013 12:15 AM

The shiny rate in the friend safari absolutely has to be lower because I've caught three shinies just tonight. One hunt took an hour, the others less than 15 minutes within looking.

milk_pikachu October 25th, 2013 12:34 AM

I have never, EVER encountered a single shiny pokemon so far.

Hiatus October 25th, 2013 1:16 AM

To me, the shiny encounter rate seems to be the same as all previous games, to be honest. Nothing's changed. Just like in any other Pokémon game, the only thing that shinies depend on is your luck. If you're lucky enough, then you may run into one shiny Pokémon after another continuously. If you're not, then, well, you may never be able to encounter one. It's been more than a week since I've gotten Pokémon Y, I think, and so far, I've been able to run into only one shiny. It was a Litleo, which I found on Route 22 at the beginning of the game. I wasn't able to capture this Pokémon though, unfortunately, because I accidentally made it faint when trying to weaken it. ): Anyway, if you've been encountering shinies more often, then have you given any tip to any people recently? I've heard that handing out tips actually increase the chances of your shiny encounter, buuut… it's still unconfirmed. If it does turn out to be true, then every time I go out to a restaurant, I'll always make sure to leave some tips behind.

MrShadow October 25th, 2013 1:26 AM

i am in 48 hours of game play and i have never encountered a shiny pokemon so far.If i find one i am gonna throw a party and you all will be invited!!!!!

Dark_Yveltal October 25th, 2013 1:26 AM

Hey guys I want to try chain fishing, but there is a possibility of "Nothing is biting" and reeling in the Fishing Rod too slow, (missed opportunity of a maybe-shiny encounter) so does these things break your chain or.. doesn't these things have any effect on your chain at all? And what does chain fishing mean, do you have to encounter as many Pokemon as possible without "reeling in your Rod too slow"?

Does anyone know? I would like to know :) Thanks!

BeefTaco October 25th, 2013 2:10 AM

I've found 2 shinies this week, one in the wild and one after I chain fish. I was not trying to chain fish though, I was looking for a Starmie and in my second reel in I got a shiny Quiwlfish.

Throw your rod out in the water somewhere. DON'T MOVE A SINGLE INCH. Moving even if it's one step will break the chain. Not getting a bite will break your chain. Reeling to slow/to early will also break your chain. Get a Pokémon with Suction Cups ability (Inkay for example) and put him on front of your party; it's almost impossible not to get a bite that way.

metalhand October 25th, 2013 2:13 AM

Played for 45 hours and didn't find even one shiny, so I wouldn't say its too easy

MetalxTongue October 25th, 2013 2:16 AM

I never chained, I like getting the challenge to find them in the wild. So, much more fun!

Dakotah October 25th, 2013 2:29 AM

I haven't found a single shiny Pokemon in the game yet in 13 hours of game play. No, I don't think finding a shiny is particularly easy. Some people just get lucky is all.

Z25 October 25th, 2013 5:20 AM

I have only 2 spread across the past 3 days. Clauncher and relicanth, both from chain fishing. I looked before that and got nothing the normal way. I am mming honedge though.

SnowpointQuincy October 25th, 2013 5:40 AM

I usually encounter ONE shiny in each game after about 200-600 hours.

This time it only took 80 hours.

If I encounter one shiny every 100 hours, I would still call that "Rare".

Exitosus October 25th, 2013 5:45 AM

i found 3 shiny ivysaurs in the safari last night while trying to find a female ivysaur...still havent found the female.

She_Delphox October 25th, 2013 5:50 AM

Hi guys, I thought by myself, hm okay challenge accepted. I started chain fishing this morning, in about 30 mins (after like 17 chains or so) I got a shiny Horsea (female). Now after, to be exact, 35 chains I've got myself a shiny Horsea again (male) :D I was really happy this does work.

@Decimosoma, yes thanks for your tips :) It is true though many people have tried.
Since my game crashed last week because of the save glitch in Lumiose T_T I will try the Friend Safari one too when I beat the Elite Four (again).

So... back to chain myself a Clauncher then. ^_^ Everyone else, happy hunting!

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ October 25th, 2013 5:51 AM

I ran into a horde of Wingulls the other day and one of them were shiny (the one shiny was on the sides) I couldn't tell which one, by looking at the bar or the choice which one is shiny, so I accidently knocked out the shiny one. This is the only shiny I ran into so far and Im not planning to use any methods to find one

:t354:TG

Tunuko October 25th, 2013 5:53 AM

I've found 2 shiny skiddo, in previous games I've only ever found a shiny Delibird, so thinking this game is easier... but then I was chaining >.> Going to chain fish later to get some more :D

Numix October 25th, 2013 5:55 AM

Well, i tried to get an eevee by MM'ing. However i'm now at 7 full boxes and kinda tired. So i went to a friend safari to catch some ditto's, and the first encounter was a blue ditto.Guess my first official shiny is a ditto...Better than nothing i guess.

StrangerUK October 25th, 2013 5:57 AM

seems like 1/250 now.....

She_Delphox October 25th, 2013 6:09 AM

@Tatsujin Well that is really bad :( I can explain though if you like;

When ecountering a horde battle, the first pokemon (1 of 5) is on the very most left.
So in the battle screen this is the pokemon on the bottom left. The second Pokemon is on the top left, third Pokemon is right in the middle, the fourth Pokemon is on the top right and the fifth Pokemon is on the bottom right of your battle screen (I tried to explain it as how it would look like in your battle screen where you can select run etc. but you have to choose an attack to see the spots in your battle screen though)

So if for example the shiny Wingull you encountered was on the fifth spot when encountering a horde battle (first one of the right since all those Pokemon are lined-up in a row when encountering a horde battle), then that Wingull would be on the bottom-right spot in your battle screen. I hope I did make this something more clear to you ^_^ but you could practise in horde battles to find out yourself :)
