Pokemon X/Y OU Team
Hey guys, just want to get some advice on my team and what I can do to make it better. Any advice/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
Goodra @Assualt Vest Gooey 252 HP, 252 SpAtk, 6 SpDef Modest - Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor (I don't like the effects of Draco Meteor) - Sludge Wave - Thunderbolt - Fire Blast Comments: THis guy is my Special Tank. He takes lots of hits and hopefully will be able to with stand fairy attacks. Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor for STAB, Sludge Wave for the, nasty fairies, thunderbolt for coverage and Fire Blast to surprise Steel Types if they switch in after the fairy Alakazam @ Life Orb Magic Guard 252 SpAtk, 252 Sd, 6 HP Modest - Psychic - Focus Blast - Shadow Ball - Recover/? Comments: Basically my revenge killer/special sweeper. Good coverage to hit Pokemon like Tyranitar hard as well as other Psychics. I'm deciding whether recover is useful or not because of its frailness. Tyranitar @ Focus Sash/Tyranitarite Sand Stream 252 HP, 252 Atk, 6 Sd Adamant - Stealth Rock - Crunch - Stone Edge/? - Brick Break Comments: He is my Stealth Rock lead. Crunch and Stone Edge (maybe something else with better accuracy?) for STAB. Brick Break to destroy Steel Types (even though commonly used ones don't have 2x Weakness). I'm debating whether or not to use The mega stone or the focus stash. I'd prefer to use the Tyranitarite seems I don't have another Mega POke (other than Alakazam who has better stats with LO) Metagross @ Choice Band/? Clear Body 252 HP, 252 Atk, 6 Sd Adamant - Zen Headbutt - Earthquake - Meteor Mash - Bullet Punch/Hammer Arm Comments: He is my physical sweeper. Good moves for STAB. Debating whether to use bullet punch for priority or hammer arm for coverage. I'd rather not use a Choice Band because of his good coverage but I don't know what else to use. Dragonite @ Leftovers Multiscale 252 HP, 252 Atk, 6 Def Adamant - Outrage/? - ExtremeSpeed - Waterfall - Roost Comments: He is basically a Complete Tank, capable of taking hits and Roosting them off. Outrage for STAB (but I don't know if its worth using because of Fairies, maybe something else?), Waterfall for Coverage as I lack water moves, ExtremeSpeed for priority/revenge killing. Tentecruel @ Black Sludge Ability Doesn't matter 252 HP, 252 Def, 6 Sd Calm - Rapid Spin - Toxic Spikes - Scald/ Toxic - Sludge Wave/ Protect Comments: This guy is basically support and my rapid spinner. I am debating whether or not to use Toxic or Scald and Sludge Wave or Protect. I'm thinking of Scald and Protect to annoy plus Toxic Spikes will poison already. Overall I believe my team has good coverage as well as plenty of resistances. However, it's most notable Weaknesses are Ground and Fairy types. This is one of my first competitive teams (but I consider myself fairly knowledgable about pokemon) and I'm just looking for advice to make it better. All recommendations are appreciated. Thanks! Ok, I just realized that Dragonite cannot get ExtremeSpeed yet. So, any other recommendation for that slot? Maybe Dragon Dance or something else? |
On D-nite I would definitely get rid of outrage for dragon claw, because outrage is just begging for a fairy type to come in and destroy you. Also On D-nite I would personally run EQ rather than waterfall, but that's your own choice. Also replace e-speed with dragon dance probably. Alakazam is a bad user of recover, and you prolly won't need it because of how frail it is, so encore would probably work better. On tentacruel I would go for scald over toxic because your toxic spikes will get the job done well enough on their own. I'd also go for sludge wave rather than protect because you don't have much to protect abuse, and it can cost you valuable time.

Recover is useless on Alakazam due to its frailty. Substitute or Hidden Power (Fire/Ice) are better options.
I'd say the Tyranitarite may be a better option for Tyranitar to use because it gains more power and bulk. You're better off using the standard Dragon Dance Dragonite for now. Aqua Tail only sees use on rain teams, IMO, since Ferrothorn currently walls Dragonite: -Dragon Dance -Dragon Claw -Fire Punch -Earthquake/Roost Nature: Adamant/Jolly EVs: 252 Atk/4 SDef/252 Spe Item: Lum Berry/Leftovers Ability: Multiscale What's the point of Tentacruel having a Calm nature when it's not investing in Special Defense at all? Use a Timid nature with 248 HP/244 Def/16 Spe, which lets you outspeed Jolly Breloom/Skarmory, Modest Heatran and Adamant Gyarados/Dragonite. |
Ok guys, Thanks for the comments! I will definitely use that Dragonite Set and Remove Recover for Substitute or Encore. Also, I'll more than likely use Scald and Sludge Wave on my Tentecruel. Unfortunately, I already have my Tentecool EV trained and I'm a bit lazy so I might just leave him and not bother getting a new one to EV train and a Timid Nature. Also, would Dragon Rush work better than Dragon Claw? Is the lower accuracy worth the extra power? I'm thinking not....

Ok, I've done further research and I'm wondering whether I should use Flamethrower instead of Fire Blast for my Goodra as he is a Special Tank oppose to a Sweeper and as a plus, it is more accurate. What do you guys think? Is Fire Blast worth the extra damage because I've EV trained it in SpAtk?

Yeah that makes sense. I'll probably play around with it a bit to test it and choose which one I like better. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but, does an Item Clause exist where all items must be different/unique? My understanding was that their was, but upon further research, there's no such thing in Smogon Tiers (I believe). Having that said, should I use a Leftovers for my Tentecruel and a Life Orb for my Metagross? Also, I'm still wondering should my Goodra use Dragon Pulse or Draco Meteor, Id prefer to use Dragon Pulse because there no negative effect but perhaps I should reconsider?
