PC Markings

What do you use them for? These, star, square, circle, triangle, etc. markings in the PC boxes?

I use them to identify which Pokemon I have is EV trained and at which stat it's trained in.(ex. star is for this stat, square is for that.) Recently I have used them to identify which among my boxed Pokemon has a Perfect IV and at which stat it is perfect in using the same assigning of stats for a shape.

CliCliW November 5th, 2013 1:28 AM

I've never used the markings for much to be honest, I've just never seen much of a point to them..

Shirayuki-san November 5th, 2013 1:39 AM

Me too, I never used them or maybe just a few times before. I usually separate my Pokemon by boxes so I didn't really have to use the markings. But I guess that is a good way to use them. I learned something new :)

Ewery1 November 5th, 2013 3:45 AM

I never really used them, but when I did it was so I could sort out a Pokemon in the sea of others. Legendaries just got an entirely new box.

Kikaito plush November 5th, 2013 4:06 AM

I have never used them either I do not see the point.

Batty November 5th, 2013 4:32 AM

I have never used them before, but I like your method of using them to EV/IV sort. It's sort of.. Brilliant. Although I suppose you could just put the IV perfect Pokemon in a special box.

Marionz November 5th, 2013 4:51 AM

the markings is being used to make notes of what IV's are perfect whenever you get your pokemon judged by the potential judge NPC.

but no one really knows what they are for, just that people found use for them like that :)

moon November 5th, 2013 5:01 AM

I think I just used them to mark what pokémon I had rotating on my extended team and what pokémon I considered too cute to release etc. Not a feature I really felt was necessary though :3

msdmario November 5th, 2013 8:01 AM

I use it to mark which stats have perfect IVs after taking the Pokemon to see the IV judge. There are 6 PC markings which is perfect.

Melody November 5th, 2013 10:23 AM

I oftentimes use them to denote important information. Marking pokemon I've trained, want to train if enough time is given, or otherwise marking pokemon that have special attributes; like being an event, infected with Pokerus, taught a limited move, knows one or more HMs or is otherwise not a pokemon I'm willing to trade off without some thought or equal exchange equivalent to the plans I had for that pokemon.

PC markings are immediately apparent on their summary; and so this along with box arrangement keeps them organized.

Hikamaru November 5th, 2013 5:30 PM

I used to do it a lot back when I played Ruby. Nowadays not so much hahahaha.

Water Gym Leader November 5th, 2013 6:33 PM

I use the Hearts on Water Types, Diamonds on Starters, Stars on Legendaries , and Circles on Shinies.

Hiatus November 6th, 2013 3:51 AM

When I was younger, I didn't use this feature at all; thought it was pretty redundant. Nowadays, though, I use it every now and then. If you mark your Pokémon, you won't be having any issues sorting them. If you're looking for a certain Pokémon in your PC but can't find it, you could easily search through the markings. My three most common marks are triangle, heart, and circle. If I use a Pokémon online when battling, then I'd mark it with a triangle. If it's a Pokémon I really, really like, I'd put a heart on it. As for circle, I use this marking only on shinies and legendaries—y,know, Pokémon that are rare. d:

Brendino November 7th, 2013 12:51 AM

For the longest time, I considered them useless, since they didn't seem to do anything other than having the markings highlighted when you looked at your Pokemon. I didn't actually start using them until HeartGold, where I'd mark the triangle and circle on Pokemon that I was planning to trade over the GTS. Once I found out that you could just add/remove those from Pokemon you received in a trade too, I didn't bother using them any more, and haven't since.

Thief November 7th, 2013 1:48 AM

XY is the first time I've bothered using them, but they're exceptionally useful for marking on perfect IVs.

That's actually pretty smart, I might have to start doing that, since up to this point, I've never really given the markings a second glance.

Kyrul November 7th, 2013 8:59 AM

I used to use them alot back in ruby version because my friends told me this rumor that if you fill in random shapes it makes your pokemon more secure or some crap like that. Now since I'm slightly smarter than how I was back then, I know this was bs.

pokemasta92 November 7th, 2013 1:54 PM

I don't ever EV or IV train so I just use them something that I don't have to do, but I just like too. I use the circle, square, and triangle to mark how many evolutions the Pokémon has. For example Torchic would have one symbol, Combusken would have two symbols, and Blaziken would have three symbols. I use the star to mark the six Pokémon I use in my main team as well as any legendaries.

Tek November 7th, 2013 3:33 PM

Hm I never thought of using them to denote perfect IVs. Very cool. I once used them to indicate the parents of a few eggs, wasn't really even necessary lol. Another good use would be to indicate the stats that are a pokemon's greatest strengths (atk + def vs atk+sp atk + speed, etc). Thanks for the inspiration!

Legobricks November 7th, 2013 3:51 PM

Nothing. I use boxes to denote different demographics.

Aeroblast November 7th, 2013 7:49 PM

I've had thoughts about using it to mark various IVs, but I've never used it in practice. I guess it's an easy thing to forget.

Calamitastrophe November 7th, 2013 8:04 PM

Nowadays, I use them for IVs like everyone else. Back in D/P, I just used them to as labels to tell me which batch of eggs a baby came from.

Like, if a Pokemon was part of the first 5 eggs, they'd have the first symbol marked. If they were in the fourth batch of eggs, they'd have the 4th symbol marked, etc.

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ November 8th, 2013 12:19 AM

The only time I mark a Pokemon is if it has Pokerus on it and when it no longer has it. As for EV training, I put those Pokemon in a separate box.

Starry Windy November 11th, 2013 7:40 PM

I never used the PC markings because I don't see a point of using it at the moment.

KittenKoder November 11th, 2013 7:55 PM

I have seen people use them for maxed IVs, but I prefer to give each symbol a meaning, like the heart means it's one of my favorites, the square means a solid IV spread, star means it's great in battle, the diamond means there's a mega stone for it ... etc. That way I can just set the filter to which ones I am looking for and it makes finding them easier if I lose them in some random box.

Mega Missingno November 12th, 2013 12:48 PM

never understood the point of those markings

Sheep November 12th, 2013 12:51 PM

I use them to show which of my Pokemon have max IVs! It's a lot easier to find specific Pokemon that way, especially if you have a lot of the same kind like I do.

Draguinite November 15th, 2013 6:49 PM

I actually like your method...I just organize them by box, though.

braixen November 15th, 2013 8:55 PM

i use them to note what ivs are perfect on the pokemon i breed, like a lot of people do. before i started doing that i didn't really use them for anything.

Astinus November 15th, 2013 9:25 PM

I've only used them once in all my games. It was to mark a Glameow I bred for a friend that had a specific nature. Outside of that, I didn't see much use to them. Any Pokemon I want to mark as special goes into a special box or gets a nickname to differentiate them from others of the same species.

Jessie Mulay November 15th, 2013 9:45 PM

For what you do I think boxes would be better, because that's what I do for those criteria. I think the markings would be hard to look through.

I use them for IVs.

Sevynn November 15th, 2013 10:38 PM

I'm currently using the markings to denote which Pokemon have how much IV, whether I've EV trained them and so on.

Sabrewulf238 November 16th, 2013 5:23 AM

Before the latest gen I never used them for anything...but I've started marking my main team pokemon I've EV trained with a heart and a star to make sure I never mix them up.

DamienEros November 16th, 2013 7:05 AM

I've used them to mark up the perfect Ivs in a pokemon since there are exactly six of them
